DURING A BITTER COLD EVENING, THE PVC ORIFICE FROZE AND PRESSURE BUILT UP WITHIN THE ENGINE AND FORCED THE REAR MAIN SEAL TO BE PUSHED OUT, RESULTING IN COMPLETE OIL LOSS. THIS HAPPENED WHEN THE TEMPERATURE WAS BELOW 15 DEGREES F. THIS IS A WELL KNOW ISSUE WITH THE MODEL BUT THE GM DEALERSHIP SAWS THAT MY VIN IS NOT ONE INCLUDED WITH THE RECALL. IT DOES HAVE THE SAME ENGINE AS THE RECALL, A 2.4L ECOTEC.
MY EQUINOX BEGAN "BUCKING" ONE EVENING ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK. I HAVE CHANGED THE OIL REGULARLY (EVERY 5000 MILES) AND WAS UNAWARE OF ANY ISSUES WITH THIS MODEL HAVING EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEMS. I BROUGHT TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC- HE INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS ACTUALLY OIL IN THE TAILPIPE AND THAT THESE VEHICLES WERE KNOWN FOR HAVING OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUES. I ARRANGED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A CHEVROLET DEALER- I DID NOT WANT TO DRIVE IT AS IT WAS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN WITH THE ENGINE BUCKING AND POSSIBLY STALLING IN TRAFFIC. THE CHEVROLET DEALER HAD IT FOR THE WHOLE WEEK AND EVENTUALLY TOLD ME IT HAD "JUMPED TIMING". JOE THE SERVICE MANAGER AT CENTRAL CHEVROLET IN WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA TOLD ME THEY WOULD HAVE TO SEE IF THERE WAS FURTHER DAMAGE - IE TO THE VALVES. SO THE NEXT CALL I GET IS FROM...
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, IT WOULD TURN ON AND OFF. ONSTAR RAN A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AND FOUND THAT THE ENGINE WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC STATED THAT THE ENGINE WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REBUILT. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 139,000.
THE ENGINE HAS BEEN SERVICED MULTIPLE TIMES WITH NO LONG-TERM FIXES. THERE ARE AT THE MOMENT 127000 MILES ON THE CAR AND I HAVE JUST BEEN TOLD ALONG WITH THE KNOWN ISSUE OF THE ENGINE EATING OIL THE ROD HOLDING THE PISTONS IN PLACE IS HAVING PROBLEMS. I HAVE SPENT ALMOST AS MUCH ON THIS ENGINE AS IT WOULD COST TO REPLACE. THE ENGINE SHAKES THE CAR, IS LOUD WHILE IDLE AND HAS THE TENDENCY TO JAR ON THE HIGHWAY. I HAVE NOT EVEN HAD THIS VEHICLE OVER 2 YEARS AND I PURCHASED FROM A CHEVY DEALERSHIP THUS FURTHERING WHY I AM NOT IMPRESSED AND PLAN TO NEVER BUY ONE AGAIN.
PURCHASED EQUINOX AT THE END OF JUNE WITH 85,557 MILES. FREQUENTLY CHECKED THE "OIL LIFE" PERCENTAGE. AT 25%, THE CAR STARTED MAKING AN AWFUL NOISE. AT FIRST IT WAS MAINLY WHEN I TURNED TO THE LEFT. IT ALSO MADE THE NOISE WHEN I ACCELERATED AND THEN GRADUALLY IT WAS NOISY NO MATTER WHICH DIRECTION I TURNED. THE CAR WOULD LURCH WHEN IDLING AT A STOP LIGHT, EVEN WITH MY FOOT BARELY ON THE BRAKE. IT WAS EXTREMELY TERRIFYING. HAVE THIS CAR FOR LESS 3 MONTHS AND THIS IS HAPPENING??? TOOK TO MONRO FOR AN OIL CHANGE EVEN THOUGH THE OIL LIFE WAS ONLY AT 25%. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO ANDREW CHEVROLET (1500 WEST SILVER SPRING DR, GLENDALE, WI) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE INTAKE AND EXHAUST SOLENOID VALVE WERE FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,000. *TT

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER (AUTRY MORLAN CHEVROLET CADILLAC, 1901 W BUSINESS U.S. 60, DEXTER, MO 63841, 573-232-1561) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CAM SHAFT ACTUATOR AND THE TIMING CHAIN FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 8-4533589750. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED TO NOTIFY NHTSA. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 144,000.
THIS VEHICLE (79,000 MILES) BEGAN STALLING AS WE APPROACH IDLE AND REQUIRES IT TO BE PUT INTO NEUTRAL AND RESTARTED - THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. IT IS INTERMITTENT AND THERE IS NO ENGINE LIGHTS ON OR CODES WHEN CHECKED. IT HAS HAPPENED IN TOWN, IN THE COUNTRY ON A HIGHWAY, AND IN OUR DRIVEWAY. IT HAS HAD MULTIPLE FUEL TYPES/BRANDS IN IT SINCE THIS STARTED WITH NO RESOLUTION. AS I DID RESEARCH THIS ISSUE ONLINE, IT SEEMS WAY TO COMMON AND NOW I WORRY THAT OUR ONLY RELIABLE VEHICLE IS NOT SOMETHING WE CAN COUNT ON ANY LONGER. PLEASE CONSIDER AN INVESTIGATION WITH A RECALL TO MAKE CHEVROLET FIX THE COMMON ISSUE SPANNING OVER SEVERAL YEARS OF THE SAME ENGINE.
WHEN MY VEHICLE IDOLS AT A STOP LIGHT, IT STARTS TO SHAKE AS IF IT WANTS TO CUT OFF. WHEN I TURN MY WHEEL THE INSIDE MAKES A SCREECHING SOUND.
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION LEADS TO CHUGGING, DYING & BLOWING CODES. YOU HAVE TO CHECK THE OIL AT EVERY FILL UP OR THE ACTUATORS & THE SELENOID FAIL WHICH THEN RETARDS THE TIMING & TILTS THE CAM SHAFT. I WAS DRIVING HOME WHEN I FELT IT POWER DOWN & ALMOST STALL OUT. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS VIA GOOGLE ON THIS. THIS IS THE 3RD TIME IN 14 MONTHS THAT MINE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP. THEY NEED TO FIX THE PROBLEM NOT JUST BANDAIDE IT. IT HAS COST ME WAY TO MUCH MONEY & THIS IS A ROAD HAZARD SINCE YOU NEVER NOW WHEN IT IS JUST GOING TO LOSE POWER.
WHEN MY VEHICLE IS IN MOTION I AM NOT GETTING THE AMOUNT OF POWER I SHOULD BE RECEIVING ONCE I PRESS ON THE GAS. I BELIEVE THE TIMING IS OFF AND I HAVE A CODE: P0013 ISSUE, ACTUATOR CIRCUIT, CAM SHAFT POSITION. I HAVE SEEN A RECALL TO THE 2011 MODEL FOR THE SAME REASONS AND I'M SURE MY VEHICLE IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUES.
THE ENGINE ON MY 2012 CHEVY EQUINOX "DIED" UNEXPECTEDLY AFTER ~67000 MILES. IT OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING, SHORTLY AFTER I HAD EXITED I-95. IT RESULTED IN AN IMMEDIATE LOSS OF POWER THAT REQUIRED ME TO SWERVE ONTO THE GRASS BESIDE THE ROAD TO AVOID GETTING HIT BY THE CAR BEHIND ME. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ALONE IN THE CAR, AND NONE OF MY CHILDREN WERE PRESENT. THE CAR WAS INSPECTED BY MECHANICS AT THE DEALERSHIP WHO REPORTED THAT THE TIMING BELT HAD FAILED, WHICH CAUSED IRREPARABLE DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE. A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH RESULTED IN MULTIPLE REPORTED CASES OF 2012 EQUINOXES THAT HAD SIMILAR ISSUES. FORTUNATELY, THE ENGINE FAILURE OCCURRED AFTER I HAD EXITED THE HIGHWAY. IF IT HAD OCCURRED 15 MINUTES SOONER, I WOULD HAVE LOST POWER ON THE SCUDDER'S FALL BRIDGE OVER THE DELAWARE RIVER AND WOULD HAVE BEEN IN SIGNIFICANTLY MORE DANGER. WHEN ASKED WHETHER THE DAME WAS...

I HAVE A 2012 CHEVROLET EQUINOX WITH THE EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION DEFECT CAUSE BY DEFECTIVE PISTON SEALS. IT CAME ON OUT OF NOWHERE WITH ONLY 78K MILES ON THE CAR. WE WERE DRIVING 2 HOURS HOME, AND HALF A MILE AFTER WE EXITED THE HIGHWAY, WHILE WE WERE SITTING IN A DRIVE-THRU, OUR ENGINE DIED ENTIRELY DUE TO THIS DEFECT. IF IT HAD HAPPENED A MINUTE SOONER, MY CAR WOULD HAVE DIED ON THE HIGHWAY, AND MY FAMILY WOULD HAVE BEEN IN A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT AND POSSIBLE EVEN KILLED. GM IS REFUSING TO COVER THE COST OF THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT, DESPITE THE FACT THAT THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON MY VEHICLE SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE OF THE KNOWN DEFECT IN THE PISTON SEALS. THE CONTACT REFERENCED GMC SPECIAL COVERAGE CAMPAIGN: 16118; HOWEVER, GMC DENIED TO COVER THE VEHICLE DUE TO OIL CHANGES NOT BEING PERFORMED BY THE DEALER. TIMING CHAIN BROKE
MORE THAN ONCE WHILE DRIVING I HAVE GOTTEN POWER STEERING WARNINGS WHILE DRIVING, VEHICLE LOCKED UP IN THE PROCESS AND TOOK ALL OF MY MIGHT TO TURN AND GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I HAVE CONSTANT OIL CHANGES AND WAS ISSUED A RECALL LETTER THAT THE OIL CENSOR WAS OFF LAST MAY AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID NO SUCH RECALL EXISTED. RECENTLY MY MECHANIC SAYS THE TIMING IS OFF, AN ENGINE POWER REDUCED WARNING HAS COME UP MORE THAN ONCE AND I HAVE STOPPED DRIVING THE CAR ALL TOGETHER FOR FEAR IS STOPS WITH MY CHILDREN AND MYSELF IN IT. THE FIRST TIME IT CAME ON TWO WEEKS AGO, I WAS AT AN INCREDIBLY BUSY INTERSECTION AND COULD NOT GO OVER 20 MPH, IT WAS AS IF I WAS DRIVING IN NEUTRAL. OIL LIFE STILL READ 40%. DEALERSHIPS KNOW ABOUT AN OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE WITH THESE 2.4 ENGINES AND ONLY TOLD DEALERSHIPS TO REPAIR AFTER AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST IS PERFORMED. GM NEVER ISSUED A NOTICE TO CONSUMERS ONLY DEALERSHIPS. WE BROUGHT THE CAR IN BEFORE THE LETTER WAS SENT TO THE DEALERSHIPS AND NOW THAT WERE OUT OF THE "SPECIAL EXTENDED COVERAGE" WE NEED TO REBUILD THE ENGINE. THERE ARE COUNTLESS CASES OF THESE ENGINE ISSUES ONLINE, AND A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT HAS BEEN STARTED. BROUGHT IN FOR SERVICE AT DEALERSHIP (~96400 MILES) AND THE TIMING CHAIN WAS FAILED CAUSING PERMANENT DAMAGE TO THE VALVE. FULL ENGINE REPLACEMENT NECESSARY. IF DRIVING ON HIGHWAY OR BUSY INTERSECTION, COULD HAVE BEEN A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. VERY LUCKY TO BE ABLE TO PULL ASIDE SAFELY. GM REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE COMPLAINT EVEN THOUGH THERE IS KNOWN PROBLEMS WITH THIS ENGINE AND THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE, THEIR REASONING IS THAT THEY CANNOT PERFORM THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. THE LAB SERVICE INDICATED THAT THE OIL WAS LOW.
IN SEPTEMBER OF 2017 I PURCHASED A USED 2012 CHEVY EQUINOX WITH 52753 MILES ON. IT APPEARED TO BE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. AT 54502 MILES THE CHANGE ENGINE OIL MESSAGE DISPLAYED ON THE DASH. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER STICKER IN THE WINDOW IT WAS NOT DUE UNTIL 57620. WHEN I CHECKED THE OIL IT WAS BONE DRY. THERE WAS NOT A DROP OF OIL ON THE DIPSTICK. I HAD TO PUT IN ALMOST 3 QUARTS. I CALLED THE LOCAL GARAGE AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH CERTAIN MODEL YEAR GMC VEHICLES. " EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUES" IS THE TERM HE USED. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND DISCOVERED THAT THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED AND CONTINUE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN THE EQUINOX CAUSED BY BAD VALVE RINGS WHICH GM ADMITS TO BUT WON'T FIX RINGS WITHOUT AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST OF 3,000 MILES. I'VE ADDED 3 QUARTS OF OIL SINCE THE LAST OIL CHANGE (ONLY 2,000 MILES AGO). THERE IS NO OIL LEAK. THE DEALER (ATLANTIC CHEVROLET, BAYSHORE, NY) HAS HAD MY CAR FOR 3 DAYS BUT WON'T REPAIR THE TIMING CHAIN WITHOUT A GO AHEAD FROM GM WHICH THEY SAY WILL REQUIRE 2 MORE DAYS! THEY NEED TO ISSUE A RECALL AND FIX RINGS AND TIMING CHAINS WITHOUT MAKING CUSTOMERS JUMP THROUGH SO MANY HOOPS.
THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH A VALVE IN THE ENGINE THAT CAN BECOME PLUGGED IN COLD WEATHER. ONLY CERTAIN VIN'S WERE COVERED. MY VEHICLE HAD THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM AS THE ONES THAT WERE RECALLED HAD. HOWEVER, BECAUSE MY VIN WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL GM WOULD NOT COVER MY REPAIR COSTS.
VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN ON THE TOLLWAY ON A SNOWY EVENING WITH THE TEMPERATURE AROUND 5 DEGREES. SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE STARTED LOSING POWER AND SHAKING AND STALLED IN A LANE OF TRAFFIC AND WAS UNABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THIS WAS A VERY UNSAFE SITUATION AS THE VISIBILITY WAS POOR DUE TO THE HEAVY SNOW AND OUR VEHICLE WAS DISABLED AND BLOCKING A TRAFFIC LANE. WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP WHICH WAS ABLE TO GET IT STARTED AGAIN BUT QUICKLY TURNED IT OFF AS THE ENGINE SOUNDED TERRIBLE. THEY CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL TO FIND NO OIL ON THE DIPSTICK SO THEY ADDED OIL AND CHECKED THE LEVEL AGAIN AND FOUND METAL SHAVINGS IN THE OIL. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND SOUNDED TERRIBLE AND THEY FOUND OIL QUICKLY LEAKING FROM THE REAR OF THE ENGINE. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION THEY FOUND THE REAR MAIN SEAL HAD FAILED CAUSING...
MY CHEVROLET DEALER WOULD NOT HONOR TSB 14882 AND DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR MY VEHICLE FREE OF CHARGE. THE REASON GIVEN IS THAT THE TSB IS VIN SPECIFIC AND MY CAR DOES NOT HAVE THE EXACT ENGINE DESIGNATED IN THE TSB. HOWEVER, IT IS A CHEVROLET INLINE 4 CYLINDER ENGINE THAT EXHIBITS THE IDENTICAL SYMPTOMS AS IN THE TSB. THIS TSB SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO COVER ALL CHEVROLET 4 CYLINDER ENGINES IN THE DESIGNATED MODEL YEARS.
I PURCHASED THE CAR IN APRIL OF 2012 AND STARTED EXPERIENCING ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE WITHIN THE FIRST 10,000 MILES. THE CAR WOULD STALL AND SHUT OFF WHILE IN MOTION EITHER AFTER A SHORT IDLE WHILE AT A STOP SIGN OR RED LIGHT, OR EVEN WHILE PARKING BOTH IN DRIVE AND REVERSE. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS RANDOMLY SHUT OFF WHILE IN MOTION DURING STORMS LEAVING ME COMPLETELY BLIND. THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE 2013 EQUINOX WINDSHIELD WIPERS BUT WOULD NOT EXTEND THE RECALL TO MY 2012 EQUINOX WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THE CAR CONSUMES OIL AT A FASTER THAN NORMAL RATE AND HAS REQUIRED FREQUENT OIL CHANGES...

EQUINOX VERY SUDDENLY STARTED RUNNING ROUGHLY AND MAKING A "KNOCKING" NOISE FROM THE ENGINE AND ACTED AS IF ENGINE WANTED TO STALL WHILE IDLING. RECENTLY MY CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE MY HUSBAND AND I WERE DRIVING. WE OWN A 2012 EQUINOX 2.4L. WE DIDN'T KNOW UNTIL NOW THAT THIS ENGINE IS KNOWN FOR HAVING EXTREME ISSUES WITH A PCV VALVE AND BECAUSE OF THIS DESIGN FLAW THE VALVE GETS CLOGGED UP. IT MAKES YOUR ENGINE BUILD UP PRESSURE AND THEN A CRANKCASE SEAL BLOWS (IN OUR CASE IS WAS THE REAR). THIS IS SOMETHING KNOWN TO GM. THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN OUT FOR THIS BUT GM WON'T COVER IT. WE MEET ALL THE QUALIFICATIONS AND THEY STILL WON'T COVER IT. THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE OUT THERE ALL OVER THE INTERNET POSTING ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM AND GM WON'T HELP THEM EITHER.

I WAS ON MY LUNCH BREAK AT MY WORK, PARKED IN THE PARKING LOT WITH MY VEHICLE ON AND RUNNING. ALL OF A SUDDEN, MY VEHICLE SHUTS OFF AND WILL NOT TURN ON.
