The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 20V701000 (Electrical System) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The local dealer was contacted and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
There is a risk of battery catching fire in the 2017 Chevy Bolts. My car had the original fix and now we are told it wasn't sufficient and another fix is pending. In the meantime, my car and my surrounding buildings/home are at risk of catching fire. I am following the recommended precautions until the fix is available, but it means I cannot park in a garage, nor fully charge my car. I have already been denied a buyback attempt and tried going through the BBB to settle a complaint, but my case was mysteriously closed by BBB. I will follow up with them but I would appreciate either a new battery or an option to buyback or swap. I am not sure what other documentation is needed from me.
GM has now issued a second recall on my 2017 Bolt EV battery, due to fire. Current guidance from GM/Chevrolet is to not leave the vehicle unattended while charging and to leave outside. This is not workable for me, as I'm not able to charge my vehicle outside and it's not sustainable to leave my car charging within my garage. I would like to participate in GM's "Buy Back" program, whereby they'll buy my vehicle back from me at original purchase price - - or - - offer me options of moving to a similar model/trim line in the current 2022 model year. The fire risk introduced with the vehicle puts me, my family and my property at significant risk and I am unable to use the vehicle in the manner it was originally designed. I'm unable to charge the battery or get appropriate mileage based on the initial design.
2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV has a faulty battery pack and current recall reduces driving capability from 200 miles to 110 (90% full to min of 70 miles ) this is a total 45% reduction in driving capability. Additionally charging capability is reduced 66% (16/24) as I am unable to charge at work (8 hours) or while asleep (8 hours) due to recent recall. This is an unacceptable degradation in vehicle capability especially while within the battery warranty (100k miles).
2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV has intermittent master sound. All vehicle sounds (indicators, warning sounds, GPS navigation, radio) will turn off completely for between 0.5 and 10 seconds before returning to normal. Frequency is random with no logical correlations aside from a pattern of high occurrences followed by a day or two of low occurrences. Dealer has been notified twice and unable to solve issue both times.
Battery pack is failed and needs replacing, attempts have already been made to no avail. We should have our batteries replaced at no expense along with loaner provided until completed. Than you
I own a 2017 Chevy bolt and the batteries are catching fire on a high state of charge which should not happen. Chevy offered a final "software fix" before which was supposed to fix the issue and prevent the batteries from overcharging and catching fire. The software update/diagnostic was also supposed to be able to tell Chevy which battery cells had problems. THIS DID NOT WORK. Chevy bolts continued to catch fire after this software fix . Well the new issue is that Chevy now has a new recall for the bolt to replace the problem battery cells in the pack. The problem is they could NOT identify which were the problem cells before with their software fix. And they're going to use software diagnostics again to try and isolate the problem cells and replace those. They have already proven their software does NOT work to diagnose problem cells in...
After GM denied my request for repurchase “as there is a remedy for the Battery Fire issue” (less than 1 month ago) I completed the recall at my nearest dealership [it took a while as ‘my EV guy is on a 2 week vacation’ according to the service manager] I could only drive my car after 10 or so days only to find that the infotainment system has acquired a mind of its own! the radio volume has a huge time delay between the time that I command volume up or down and when that actually happens, and also both the rear and front view camera turn on randomly / alternate with the radio display while backing up and/or parking. this is obviously a bug in the software that started after the new battery monitoring software was installed (and supposedly got a pass while inspecting the pack on my vehicle)...
I own a 2017 Chevrolet Bolt which is part of the recall announced today by GM. This is the second recall in less than a year for the same battery-related issue. It was supposed to have been fixed with a software update. However, I have not been able to get this software update because the only GM dealership within 100 miles that services Bolts has not received the diagnostic tool from GM yet. I continue to drive my car without a critical safety update because I have no reasonable way to get it. This software was supposed to identify defective batteries but it has not been successful as evidenced by the mounting number of fires that have happened after the “fix”. As such, we are now under a recall a second time. As a result of their own manufacturing issue, we are now limited to how we charge our vehicles,...
GM is still sitting on their hands and not replacing batteries as a whole. EVERY affected vehicle should receive a replacement battery pack. I have held off on the "fix" because I am only charging to 90 percent. Now GM says there still is an issue and has issued yet another recall. The batteries need to be replaced before someone dies.
This is the second safety recall against the same models of the Chevrolet Bolt. GM already attempted to fix this once, and it did not work. You must demand that GM replace the entire battery pack in every Bolt that is affected by this recall. For the second time in less than a year, due to their own manufacturing issues, they have limited our mileage range, this time even less so. We're unable to park in our garage, and can only charge when the car can be supervised. These limitations have been placed on us without any details from GM on how we can obtain loaner cars/reimbursement for rental cars. This issue not only puts myself, my family and my livelihood at risk, but it also puts others around me at risk, as the car can catch fire when it's not even on. I'm scared to drive it at this...
two recalls in the past year is suppose to address the battery fire safety issue announed by gm in late 2020. days after the final software fix by gm weeks ago, the "check engine" light was lit on my chevy bolt. a follow up service appointment was needed to replace faulty hardware. today, after gm announced a THIRD recall. I used a popular third party obd2 app to check the health of my chevy bolt, 4 different issues were reported: U0293, P0AC4, U0100, and U0073. Note that GM software reports zero issues from GM's app. At this point, I trust what the third party app is reporting and NOT GM's app. It appears GM is hiding these issues from Chevy Bolt owners. I have a service appointment with Chevy dealership next Monday to assess the state of my Bolt. Overall, i DONT FEEL SAFE with my Bolt anymore. Please follow...
General Motors failed to resolve an issue with batteries starting fires in select Chevy Bolts (an all electric vehicle). This a problem they’ve known about since at least 11/2020. Now we are awaiting the third “fix” for this problem. For months we’ve had to reduce our range and be careful about plugging the car in. GM’s temporary answer now (again) is to 1) Restrict our full battery charge - known as Hilltop mode (basically 200 miles summer/170 in the winter). 2) Not let the battery charge fall below 70 miles, and charge up to the hilltop mode limitation after each use. 3) Park outside after charging and don’t charge overnight. We may have to wait months or years for resolution, it’s already taken them 8 months to try 2 fixes that didn’t work. We are completely inconvenienced and our car may still burn up! We had a charger installed in...
We need NHTSA to require that GM replace all batteries immediately. Allowing cars that might bust into flames is not acceptable. The 2017-2019 Bolts now have effectively 144 miles of range. Charging up to 90% of 238-mile total range gives you 214-miles of range at the new "full charge". And leaving 70 miles of range as your new 0 miles of range will bring you to a total range of 144 miles. Not allowing me to park my car in my garage because of fire hazards makes the matter even worst.
I've had to deal with the high voltage battery fire recalls multiple times on my vehicle. I rely on this beautiful to drive everywhere with my family and I don't feel confident in the safety of this vehicle anymore. The only way I will feel confident in the safety of this vehicle is if the entire battery pack is replaced, not individual modules. The other more sensible and cost efficient thing to do would be to buy back the effect of vehicles and replace them with 2021 and 2022 models. GM has done this for some customers that were lucky, but it's been proven that this is indeed more cost efficient than trying to figure out logistics and training for employees, to troubleshoot and debug individual modules. Please strongly consider this. Thank you!
The unrepaired recall for Chevrolet's Bolt batteries is a serious issue that could represent thousands of dollars in property damage, but more importantly, death.
I own a 2017 Chevrolet Bolt which is part of the recall announced today by GM. This is the second recall in less than a year for the same battery-related issue. It was supposed to have been fixed with a software update that I had completed in June. This software was supposed to identify defective batteries but it has not been successful as evidenced by the mounting number of fires that have happened after the “fix”. As such, we are now under a recall a second time. As a result of their own manufacturing issue, we are now limited to how we charge our vehicles, where we park and even the mileage range that we paid for, while GM attempts another fix. GM stated today that they will again be using software to identify defective cells in our batteries and only the ones that are deternined to be defective will...
With the potential for a fire I am no longer able to charge my vehicle at home overnight. This makes the car useless to me. Also, I was told by my dealer my car needs a part related to the better/charging system that is on nation wide back order. This also makes the car unusable.

Received an email from GM acknowledging that the last recall had not been entirely successful in fixing the Bolt EV battery problem. After contracting Myasthenia Gravis, I had given away my (GM) gasoline vehicle because I was unable to maintain it with my disability. I purchased a Bolt EV because they assured me it would be relatively worry free and much easier to maintain. Since it's purchase I have been continually informed that it might be a rolling death trap. I no longer have the physiological ability to fight the corporate giants. Calls to GM have proven fruitless. Please do something that effects an actual change in my pursuit of happiness. Thank you: Eric W Biggio
There have been more vehicle fires after the safety recall "fix". General Motors has not said anything yet, and I am afraid to use my car or leave it near anything because of fire risk. This is a great safety concern for myself and others around me. I would like GM to say something.
I am concerned that GM has not remedied the Chevy Bolt combustion issues and it is not acceptable to instruct customers of recent model year vehicles to keep them parked in the driveway and not to charge them. Furthermore the recalls appear risky since there have been fires after dealers attempted to make repairs to the battery packs in the course of the recall service. There is no confidence in GM's handling of this situation.
I’m just reporting GMs persistent negligence in dealing with defective battery cells for 2017-2019 Bolts. Upon tear down these cells will not and do not meet GM quality standards and GMs delayed response and paltry response demonstrate what little concern Gm has in regard to the situation. This is an issue that will compound with time. My car has not caught fire - I just have an early build 2017 and am frustrated with GMs handling / mishandling of this situation.
Parking button may not fully engage when pressed causing vehicle to roll forward in drive gear or while in reverse causing vehicle to collide. Vehicle will automatically go into park when driver door is opened, but button can take deep press to fully engage into park. If driver removes foot from brake petal before vehicle is in Park car moves.
My car has not personally caught fire, yet. But there is a physical manufacturing defect with the high voltage battery system that causes these cars to catch fire while parked and charging. GM "fixed" the issue with a software update and multiple cars have still managed to catch fire despite being "fixed" and assured that the vehicles were safe to own and operate. It's only a matter of time before one of these cars kills someone and GM clearly is unwilling to do the right thing for the safety of their customers. You can not "fix" a manufacturing defect with a software update. GM clearly is incapable of doing the wright thing on their own and NHTSA needs to force them to take this safety issue seriously.
The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV. The contact stated received a recall notification from the manufacturer however, the NHTSA number was not provided. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for the recall repair, and the mechanic reset the battery. The contact stated upon receiving a second recall notification, the vehicle was taken to the dealer for another recall repair and an unknown reprogram was performed. The contact stated after the vehicle was reprogrammed, the battery failed, and the computer screen remained on. The service warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer who diagnosed that there were no issues found. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 62,500.
I had my Chevy dealer install the second software update and return my battery charging to 100%. There are now two reports of Bolt EV erupting in flame within a couple weeks of each other and both vehicles had the recommended second software installed. I'm reporting that the fix GM has come up with does not work and does not prevent the initial problem of battery fires when vehicle is left unattended. My safety and the safety of my family or other passengers are at risk of a fire starting for no reason and there's no solution offered by GM for this issue. Neighbors are put at risk just by the presence of this vehicle in my driveway. The general public at large are also put at risk if I was to leave the car in a public parking structure like an airport or downtown parking. Waiting on the NHTSA...
Touch screen unresponsive, freezes with rear camera streaming — incredible distraction, system restarts at random. Loss of functionality to HVAC controls in winter caused window to fog and created dangerous driving scenario. Pop sound in speakers then loss of power to infotainment system periodically. I have had dealership replace sway bar and steering due to defective parts. GM not as cooperative as they could be and process lengthy. Now GM tech says chip and screen need replacement. Battery recall has compounded my concerns over safety of Bolt EV.
I have had no failures or problems with my vehicle specifically, but I am fearful of the fire risk due to the Chevrolet Bolt EV battery recall. My local dealer has applied the software patch to my vehicle to limit charging to 90% per the recall, but a permanent fix has not been offered by GM. I am also extremely skeptical that another software modification, as proposed by GM, will provide a permanent fix to the problem, given that it is a failure of the physical battery cells that causes the fires. I implore the NHTSA to place pressure on GM to replace the propulsion battery assembly in the affected Bolt EVs and not just try to “slap a software patch on it” as a fix. Additionally, by limiting the vehicle to 90% charge capacity, this reduces the total mileage range of the vehicle, thus reducing its overall value. (Think...
SINCE I ONLY HAVE SO MANY WORDS I'LL BE BRIEF. LAST YEAR, BEFORE GM, WOULD EVEN ADMIT THERE WAS A PROBLEM, MY CAR THAT I PURCHASED WITH 7647 MILES WAS BACK IN THE SHOP WITH THEM FOR ALMOST A MONTH (BACK AND FORTH) BEFORE IT REACHED 8.K MILES. THE DEALERSHIP WOULD ONLY TELL ME THAT IT HAD "ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS" AND THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS. I PLACED TWO BUYBACK CASES WITH GM AND BOTH WERE DENIED. AS FOR THEM NOW RECALLING THE CARS, THEY ALWAYS KNEW OF THIS ISSUE BEFORE I PURCHASED MY CAR, I RENTED MULTIPLE BOLTS FROM GM CAR-SHARING SERVICE, MAVEN. AT LEAST THREE OF THE CARS I RENTED HAD A TERRIBLE SMELL EMITTING FROM THE BATTERY. MH RIDESHARE PASSENGERS AND I WOULD DISCUSS IT. AND THEIR TEMP FIX TELLS ME THEY ALREADY KNEW BECAUSE NONE OF THE MAVEN BOLTS WERE ALLOWED TO CHARGE TO 100 PERCENT....
HELLO. WE BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE IN DECEMBER 2020. WHEN I TRIED TO LIST THE VEHICLE ON THE TURO WE NOTICED THAT IT HAVE NHTSA CALL. WE USED TO VISIT CONNEL CHEVROLET IN COSTA MESA BY THEY DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. SO WE STILL HAVE THIS PROBLEM. THANK YOU

MY VEHICLE IS IMPACTED BY THE FOLLOWING RECALLS: 1) MANUFACTURER RECALL NUMBER N202311730, AND 2) NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 20V701. A FIX WAS SUPPOSED TO BE IN PLACE BY JANUARY 1. I FOLLOWED THE MANUFACTURER'S STEPS TO REDUCE CHARGE CAPACITY AND WAITED PATIENTLY UNTIL 1/29 FOR THE FIX. ON 1/29 I CALLED GM CONCIERGE LINE AT THAT TIME TO INQUIRE ABOUT THE STATUS OF THE FIX. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO UPDATE. I INQUIRED ABOUT MY OPTIONS INCLUDING A BUYBACK OR REPLACEMENT VEHICLE IN ADDITION TO A LOANER CAR DURING THE PERIOD OF TIME THE CAR WAS OUT OF COMMISSION. I WAS TOLD NO PROBLEM AND SOMEONE WOULD CONTACT ME. I'VE RECEIVED TWO CALLS SINCE THAT TIME, AND NONE OF THE PROMISED STEPS INCLUDING BUYBACK, REPLACEMENT VEHICLE, OR LOANER CARS WERE OFFERED. THE REPRESENTATIVES DO NOT RESPOND TO MY EMAILS, WHEN I CALL, THE ASSIGNED REP IGNORES MY CALLS, AND...
NOW INSTEAD OF 240 MILES I ONLY HAVE 170 MAXIMUM AFTER YOUR 10% REDUCTION
IN NOVEMBER 2020, GENERAL MOTORS HAS DECIDED THAT A DEFECT WHICH RELATES TO MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY EXISTS IN CERTAIN 2017-2019 MODEL YEAR CHEVROLET BOLT EV VEHICLES. THIS NOTICE APPLIES TO MY VEHICLE, VIN: [XXX]. AS A RESULT, GM IS CONDUCTING A SAFETY RECALL, N202311730. MORE SPECIFICALLY, A CERTAIN NUMBER OF THESE VEHICLES WERE BUILT WITH HIGH VOLTAGE CELLS PRODUCED AT LG CHEM?S OCHANG, KOREA FACILITY THAT MAY POSE A RISK OF FIRE WHEN CHARGED TO FULL, OR VERY CLOSE TO FULL, CAPACITY. THE SEVERITY OF THE RECALL NOTICE WAS ALARMING TO MY FAMILY AS WE DRIVE IT DAILY AND OFTEN EXTENDED MILES. SAFETY IS MY PRIMARY CONCERN AND I AM REQUESTING REMEDIATION IMMEDIATELY. THE RISK AND DANGER IS TOO GREAT FOR ME TO WAIT AND SEE AS GM INVESTIGATES. WHAT RECOURSE DO I HAVE NOW? INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR *JS

GM RECALL DUE TO BATTERY FIRES AFFECTS THIS CAR. THE RECALL SOLUTION TO SIMPLY LIMIT MY DRIVING TO 90% OF THE RANGE IS ABHORRENT. MY CAR IS NOW LESS THAN 90% EFFECTIVE--THERE ARE DESTINATIONS I CAN NO LONGER REACH IN A SINGLE CHARGE, AND RECHARGING IS NOWHERE NEAR AS FAST OR UBIQUITOUS AS GAS. GM NEEDS A SOLUTION THAT RESTORES THE FULL DISTANCE ABILITY OF THIS CAR, OTHERWISE IT'S OUTRIGHT FRAUD.
TODAY I RECEIVED RECALL NOTIFICATION GM N202311730 ABOUT DEFECTIVE BATTERIES THAT CAN CAUSE A FIRE WHEN CHARGED TO 100%. GM'S SOLUTION IS TO CHANGE SOFTWARE TO LIMIT MY VEHICLE'S CHARGE TO 90%. THIS IS NOT A SOLUTION. IT IS A BAND AID. THE BATTERIES ARE DEFECTIVE AND SHOULD BE REPLACED. WHY SHOULD I SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCE OF THIS AND HAVE TO DEAL WITH REDUCED VEHICLE RANGE AND MORE FREQUENT CHARGING. IF THE BATTERIES ARE A FIRE HAZARD, THEY SHOULD BE REPLACED WITH SAFE BATTERIES AT NO-COST TO THE OWNER.
HELLO MY VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TWICE WHILE DC FAST CHARGING FROM AN ELECTRIFY AMERICA CHARGING STATION. THE FIRST TIME THE SHIFTING HANDLE WAS REPLACED AND THE SECOND TIME SOFTWARE WAS REINSTALLED. HOWEVER I BELIEVE THE COULD BE AN ISSUE IN THE BATTERIES THAT THE DEALERSHIP TEST EQUIPMENT IS NOT DETECTING. THE ELECTRIFY AMERICA CHARGING STATION WOULD DISPLAY A 'ISOLATION TEST FAILURE' MESSAGE.
2017 BOLT EV WAS PARKED NOSE INTO GARAGE PLUGGED INTO WALL CHARGER CHARGING UNATTENDED WITH MY PHONE SET TO ALERT ME WHEN ESTIMATED TO BE FULLY CHARGED. WHEN I CAME OUT OF THE HOUSE TO UNPLUG CHARGER THERE WAS FIRE VISIBLE UNDER BACK SEAT IN PASSENGER COMPARTMENT OF VEHICLE. CALLED 911 AND BY THE TIME POLICE AND FIRE RESPONDED WITHIN A FEW MINUTES ENTIRE BATTERY UNDER VEHICLE ENGULFED CAR IN FLAMES CAUSING GARAGE FIRE WHICH DESTROYED GARAGE AND ALL IT CONTENTS.JUST LEARNED FROM CARFAX THAT GM ISSUED RECALL NOVEMBER 15 FOR POTENTIAL BATTERY FIRES WHEN AT OR NEAR FULL CHARGE.
I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS WITH CONCERNS OF A FAULTY BATTERY. THE BATTERY SUDDENLY STOPPED CHARGING FULLY. HOWEVER, I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER TWICE THAT THE BATTERY WAS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I OPENED A CLAIM WITH GM REGARDING THIS INCIDENT, ASKING THEM TO REPLACE THE BATTERY, SINCE IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, AND THERE WAS CLEARLY AN ISSUE. AFTER MONTHS OF BACK-AND-FORTH, GM CLOSED MY CASE STATING IT WAS 'NORMAL DEPRECIATION' OF THE BATTERY. ONE WEEK AFTER THEY CLOSED MY CASE, THE BATTERY SPONTANEOUSLY CAUGHT FIRE WHILE CHARGING IN MY GARAGE OVERNIGHT. IT TOTALED 2 VEHICLES, CHARRED EVERYTHING IN MY GARAGE, AND CAUSED SUCH SEVERE SMOKE DAMAGE THAT ALMOST EVERYTHING IN MY HOME WAS A TOTAL LOSS. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT DETERMINED THE FIRE ORIGINATED FROM THE TRUNK AREA, WHERE THE BATTERY IS. MY FAMILY IS DISPLACED WHILE...
MAIN FUZE BLEW. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IT HAS HAPPENED. DEALER DID NOT LOOK FOR THE CAUSE LAST YEAR, JUST REPLACED THE FUSE. THIS TIME THEY SAY THEY WANT TO FIND OUT WHAT CAUSED IT TO TRIP AGAIN. USING THE PORTABLE CHARGING CORD THAT CAME WITH THE CAR @ 8 AMPS. PLUGGED INTO A STANDARD 110 OUTLET. THIS IS THE MAIN BREAKER IN THE VEHICLE. THE CAR HAD NOT BEEN PLUGGED IN FOR A WEEK AND WAS AT 90% + CHANGE WHEN THE MAIN BREAKER IN THE CAR BLEW WHILE I WAS DOING ABOUT 25 MPH.
GOT THE MESSAGE: PROPULSION POWER IS REDUCED I COULD START THE CAR BUT NOT SHIFT GEAR. GOT THE ERROR "CANNOT SHIFT GEAR CONDITIONS NOT RIGHT
MY 2017 CHEVY BOLT LOST PROPULSION WHILE IN MOTION ON CITY STREETS IN LOS ANGELES IN TRAFFIC WITHOUT WARNING FROM EITHER ON STAR OR THE VEHICLE. THE BATTERY INDICATED APPROXIMATELY AN 60% CHARGE. THE VEHICLE IS NOW AT EL CAMINO CHEVROLET IN MONTEREY PARK, CA., WAITING ON SERVICE.
THE BATTERY FOR 2017 CHEVY BOLT HAS PROBLEM AND MY CAR STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT I WAS IN THE CITY AND THIS HAPPENED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. THE BATTERY WAS SHOWING IT HAS 70 MILES LEFT, IT DROPPED TO 30 AND THEN ZERO RIGHT AWAY AND I COULD NOT MOVE THE CAR AND HAD TO TOW THE CAR TO DEALERSHIP. I HAVE ONLY 17,000 MILES ON THE CAR. I TOOK THE CAR TO DEALERSHIP, AT FIRST THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON BATTERY THAT WAS ISSUED APRIL 1ST AND I SHOULD BE GETTING A LETTER IN THE MAIL, LATER CHEVY CUSTOMER SERVICE AND DEALERSHIP CHANGED THEIR STORY AND NOW THEY ARE TELLING ME THERE IS NO RECALL AND IT IS ONLY FOR CUSTOMER SATISFACTION THAT THEY NEED TO REPLACE THE BATTERY! I DO NOT WANT TO IMAGINE IF THE...
AN UNPROMPTED MESSAGE APPEARS PERIODICALLY ON THE INFOTAINMENT SCREEN OF MY VEHICLE. THE BOLT EV 2017 OWNER'S MANUAL PROVIDES NO INFORMATION ON THIS UNPROMPTED MESSAGE THAT APPEARS ON THE INFOTAINMENT SCREEN, DOES NOT WARN OF THE DANGERS THAT THIS MESSAGE POSES TO DRIVING, AND DOES NOT INDICATE THAT THE DRIVER MUST GIVE ASSENT TO THE IMPLIED FALSE ASSUMPTION THAT THE DRIVER'S ATTENTION IS NOT ON DRIVING IN ORDER TO REMOVE THE MESSAGE FROM THE INFOTAINMENT SCREEN. THE INFOTAINMENT SCREEN ALSO REMAINS STUCK ON THE REAR CAMERA VIEW WHILE DRIVING FORWARD AT SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 60MPH. THIS SITUATION HAS OCCURRED ON N. MOPAC EXPRESSWAY AND ON W. PARMER LANE, AS WELL AS ON STREETS IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD IN NORTH AUSTIN. I HAVE WRITTEN FOUR LETTERS TO MS. MARY T. BARRA, CHAIRMAN AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF GENERAL MOTORS COMPANY (24 DEC. 2018, 16 JAN. 2019, 18 JAN. 2019, AND 22...
CHEVROLET BOLT 2017 WITH ABOUT 55% OF BATTERY CHARGE BRIEFLY DISPLAYED A MESSAGE 'PROPULSION MAY BE REDUCED' AND A FEW MINUTES LATER IT STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY AND HAD TO BE TOWED AWAY. THE BATTERY INDICATOR SWITCHED MOMENTARILY FROM 125 MILES TO 40 MILES AND THEN IMMEDIATELY TO 10 MILES AND THE CAR COULD NOT BE SHIFTED TO DRIVE, DISPLAYING MESSAGE 'CONDITION NOT CORRECT TO SHIFT.' BEWARE, AS GLITCH LIKE THAT WITH BOLT CAN REALLY ENDANGER YOUR LIFE, AS IT ENDANGERED MINE. I WAS FORTUNATE TO BE ALONE IN THE CAR WITHOUT MY FAMILY, STUCK ON THE FREEWAY AFTER DARK AS CARS AROUND WERE GOING FULL SPEED. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE BATTERY, BUT AFTER THE REPLACEMENT THE CAPACITY AT FULL CHARGE SHOWS ONLY 154 MILES IN LIEU OF OVER 220 MILES BOLT SUPPOSED TO HAVE.
MY CAR WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT SIGNAL, SOMEONE BEHIND ME WAS UNABLE TO STOP AND CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF MY CAR, PUSHING MY CAR APPROXIMATELY 20FT FORWARD. MY CAR WAS RENDERED IN OPERABLE DUE TO DAMAGE TO A REAR ELECTRICAL AMPLIFIER BENEATH THE TRUNK FLOOR. I HAD TO GET THE CAR TOWED TO A COLLISION REPAIR FACILITY. GM WITHDREW THE NECESSARY STRUCTURAL PARTS TO REPAIR IT (PART NUMBER - 95429564 R UPPER REAR BODY SIDE RAIL.) AND DID NOT RELEASE A NEW PART DURING THE 8.5 WEEKS MY CAR WAS AT THE COLLISION REPAIR FACILITY. MY INSURANCE COMPANY THEN DETERMINED THAT THE CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS DUE TO NO PARTS WERE AVAILABLE TO REPAIR IT. THE OTHER DRIVER DID NOT GET A TICKET, THE SPEED LIMIT WAS 40MPG ON THIS ROAD. THIS WAS A LOW SPEED CRASH THAT RENDERED THE CAR DRIVE SYSTEM INOPERABLE. CHEVY BOLT...
DRIVING AT 65 MPH WITH 100+ MILE RANGE, CAR HAD A SUDDEN AND COMPLETE LACK OF PROPULSION. ELECTRONICS IN THE CAR CONTINUED TO WORK, BUT ABSOLUTELY NO PROPULSION. COULD SHIFT CAR TO NEUTRAL. CAR EVENTUALLY TOWED TO DEALER.
ON 2018-07-26 AT APPROXIMATELY 2325H, VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN AT ~70MPH NORTHBOUND ON I-95, THE MAINE TURNPIKE. LOCATION WAS APPROXIMATELY 1/2 MILE NORTH OF EXIT-32 (BIDDEFORD, ME). ROAD CONDITIONS WERE GOOD, TEMPERATURES IN THE MID-70F, HUMID. THE OWNER'S WIFE WAS DRIVING, WITH HER HUSBAND IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. AT THE TIME LISTED, THE VEHICLE SOUNDED A WARNING CHIME, AND RAPIDLY LOST POWER FROM HIGHWAY SPEEDS (70 MI/HR). VEHICLE, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF SPEED, WAS IN CONTROL WITH BRAKES AND STEERING, EMERGENCY FLASHERS, AND LIGHTS OPERATING. VEHICLE DRIVER INFORMATION PANEL GAVE ERRATIC AND UNRELIABLE READINGS. ALTERNATELY, THE DISPLAY SHOWED: * WARNING ICON ON RIGHT HAND SIDE * MESSAGE "SHIFT INTO PARK" * RANGE DROPPED FROM ~75 MILES TO ZERO * BATTERY GAUGE WOULD INDICATE 5% BATTERY WITH A RANGE OF 70+ MILES * REGENERATIVE BATTERY ICON SHOWED A REGEN BRAKING LIMIT OF <30KW (INDICATING BATTERY FULL??)
