My 2014 Cadillac CTS has been making what sounded like road noise. After another person road in my car that was not in it daily like I was, they told me how loud it really was. After further investigation, my rear differential has gone out at only 80,000 miles. It’s impossible to drive due to the extreme safety concerns for not only myself but other drivers on the turnpikes and highways.
The contact owns a 2014 Cadillac CTS. The contact was informed of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V038000 (Power Train). The vehicle was taken to a dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer informed the contact that the recall remedy could not be performed because the transmission and axle had failed and required repair and replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was unknown.
I am filing a complaint against Wagner Cadillac in Tyler, Texas, regarding mishandled recall service that resulted in severe damage to my 2014 Cadillac CTS Vsport (3.6 Twin-Turbo). Timeline of Events: Wagner Cadillac performed Recall #N192279370 (rear differential). At the time, only the differential code was present. Their own multipoint inspection showed no issues with the cooling or transmission systems. Immediately after recall service, my rear axle warning light came on for the first time. Shortly after, the transmission cooler line at the radiator burst, causing coolant and transmission fluid to mix. This led to overheating, hard shifting, and slipping. To limp the car home safely, I used a stop-leak additive only after the breakdown. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act clearly states warranty coverage cannot be denied unless the additive directly caused the failure, which it did not. The damage had already occurred from the ruptured line. When I returned the...
own a 2014 Cadillac CTS (VIN: [XXX] ) that was serviced under GM Recall N192279370 for rear axle differential seizing. On [XXX], the dealership replaced the rear differential carrier assembly and performed the required hydraulic system bleed. At intake, their own multi-point inspection documented no issues with the transmission, radiator, or cooling system. Immediately after the recall repair, my vehicle experienced severe issues: transmission slipping and radiator contamination with transmission fluid. These problems did not exist prior to the recall service. The dealership now claims the damage resulted from “stop leak” in the system and refuses warranty coverage. However, stop leak was not used until after the failure occurred, and only as an emergency measure to get the car home safely. The evidence strongly indicates that the failure resulted from the recall service, possibly from improper reconnection or contamination during the repair. Their refusal to acknowledge responsibility leaves me with...
The gear shifter cable on my 2014 Cadillac CTS failed completely and without warning. The vehicle became totally inoperable and could not be shifted into Park, Neutral, Reverse, or Drive. There were no dashboard alerts or signs of failure. This matches the exact symptoms described in GM Recall No. 21V473000. However, my vehicle was excluded from further action because it had previously received a visual-only inspection during the recall window. No functional testing was performed. Despite being marked as “repaired,” the shifter cable failed exactly as described in the original recall. GM confirmed that the recall case was closed after a visual inspection per their protocol. But this inspection clearly failed to detect a dangerous mechanical defect. I have now been without a working vehicle for over two weeks, with the earliest dealership appointment not available until the week of July 7 — and a $180 diagnostic fee quoted, with...
The contact owns a 2014 Cadillac CTS. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH, the contact heard an extremely loud bang, after which the vehicle lost motive power. The contact was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway and observed smoke coming from the rear axle. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the rear axle differential. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V038000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 170,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Cadillac CTS A. The contact stated while driving at approximately 45 MPH she heard an abnormal sound from the rear of the vehicle. The contact stated that it sounded like an amplified road noise. Additionally, the contact stated that there was an intermittent sharp jarring of the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle was downshifting to a lower gear independently. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who had diagnosed and determined that the differential was cracked and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact had researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V038000 (Power Train). The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
I just recently purchased my Cadillac. And the rear end is going out! I literally cannot even drive it anywhere because it is about to lock up completely. It will barely go and definitely doesn't want or like to go uphill. I could hardly go 20 miles per hour when I parked it the other night. There has not been an incident yet but if I hadn't parked it, it could've locked up completely when I was going down the highway is what my mechanic friend told me. It was not bad until just the day before it got to this point. It was making a little bit of a humming noise which I thought was just a wheel bearing the other night because that's exactly what it sounded like. But, the night I parked it it had started making like a loud thumping noise when I would try to...
My car was unsafe to drive. It would not shift into drive. I had it towed to a mechanic who diagnosed the problem. I was informed the differential was the problem. I could not drive my car until the repair was done. No one had the differential part in the USA. My car is 2014 CTS with only 66,000 miles. Can I be reimbursed for this repair?
The gears inside the rear-differential of a 2014 CTS Luxury 3.6 liter Cadillac, with 48,000 miles, failed to the point where the whole differential had to be replaced. This defect is extremely dangerous to the owner of the vehicle, as well as others on the road. If the differential fails to the point where the tires lock up, the driver can lose control of the car. There were no warning messages relating to the problem and the problem did not come on gradually. There was a sudden loud grinding noise that came from the rear of the car, while driving, and the car was immediately taken to a Cadillac dealership for inspection. The dealership mechanic/technician determined that the rear differential completely failed and needed to be replaced. (The oil was drained from the differential and there were metal shavings inside the oil.) Upon research on the internet, it was determined...
The contact owns a 2014 Cadillac CTS. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, he heard a loud abnormal scraping sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the rear axle differential assembly. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V038000 (Power Train) but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 94,000.
At the moment, the vehicle is releasing a strong order smells like burning oil or gasoline. It’s coming from the rear of the vehicle. You can smell it immediately when you step out and in the car. The rear is making a loud cranking noise and starting to shake. It appears based on the information that it’s a huge possibility it’s my rear differential going out. It posses a threat due to the anticipation of the brakes locking and causing a serious accident to my family or other on the road. Ive taken very good care if the vehicle and done all the required maintenance on the vehicle. Went though GM motors repair shops
2014 CTS 3.6 Differential was replaced in 2019 under manufactures warranty. Les than 50k miles later the differential has gone out again. The dealer will not honor the previous install and wants to charge me close to $6k to fix. This is a known problem with every model because they all have the same differential. GM will only honor the turbo version of the 2014 CTS with the same defective rear end. This can be very dangerous if the rear end locks while driving at any speed. GM is putting my family and others on the road by ignoring a known issue. I am calling out Putnam Cadillac in Berlingame Ca. taking a blind eye to a known issue.
Rear differential has gone bad. Hundreds, if not thousands of these vehicles have had this issue. Nothing is being done! It’s a shame that us CTS owners are stuck with these problems.
The rear differential is making a howling noise. The CTS V sport was recalled but not the regular CTS. Many other customers have made compliant on different websites. I am hoping to have the recall done so I don’t have to spend money on the car. It will be an expensive fix.
Rear Differential is failing, making a loud grinding, howling, screeching sound. Cadillac has already recalled rear diff on same year CTS-V (some models), but not for this or other CTS models, but finding replacement parts is almost impossible because a LOT of people are having the exact same failure.
Differential is going bad and it’s only got 60k miles on it and if the wheels lock up that is bad. And I can’t find the part nowhere.
2014 CTS with 53,000 miles. Loud whining noise started in rear of vehicle. Went to the shop and was told that the rear differential is bad. Technician stated that this is a known widespread problem with this model Cadillac. He also stated that there are no parts available and has 9 other customers waiting for the manufacturer to supply the part. He is being told by GM that it could be up to 6 months wait for the parts. Why is there not a recall. I hope that nobody gets seriously injured due to the faulty parts!
The rear differential failing at very low mileage on the 2014 and others models and years using the same part is a very common issue. The CTSV model was recalled and not the cts models. Even though it’s the same part but just one single different number in the part number. This is very offsetting being that it’s a costly part and requires costly replacement. It almost always can never be repaired but only replaced. Cadillac has recognized that it’s an issue but only recalled the CTS vsport models. Even though it’s the same exact part. My car isn’t able the be driven due to this due to high demand of the part making it very difficult to find. The part number is 84110751.
I have 75,000 miles on a 2014 Cadillac and the rear differential is bad, they have recalled this same differential on the same year of vehicle but only if it was in the turbo model. What's the difference? same part, same thing is wrong.
Rear Carrier Assembly is making grinding noise. Mechanic says that driving car could be life threatening. GM and Cadillac dealership has no parts. So car is useless. The car has 56,000 miles. There should be a recall and remedy for this Model, 2014 Cadillac 3.6L CTS. Especially when the V version of this car already has a recall. GM should be held accountable for this design flaw.
General Motor's design oversights irreversibly damaged the rear differential carrier of my 2014 Cadillac CTS4 around 75,000 to 80,000 miles. Unfortunately, there is no prior indication of the rear differential carrier assembly leaking fluid or damaging the bearing. Only after the problem occurs, the rear differential assembly starts to make a whining sound that can be heard in the cabin of the vehicle. Unfortunately, the whining sound is a clear indicator that the rear differential assembly is damaged irreversibly. The lack of differential fluid in rear differential carrier assembly can lead to a catastrophic failures. The complete failure of the rear differential assembly would result in internal gears seizing up and locking of the rear wheels. Likewise, there is no prior indicators of when the rear wheels will seize up. On highways speeds, this problem can create dangerous and even life threating conditions to the occupants of the vehicle as...
• Rear Differential is malfunctioning and is making a loud roaring, grinding noise. Is available for inspection. • Safety concern is no warning lamps notify you of malfunction and if differential goes out while driving wheels can lock up and increase the chance of a crash, And is a danger to passengers as well. • Called Dealer and was told part was discontinued probably because they know it is a bad part. Was told to rebuild or find a used part from junkyard. 2 independent service centers confirmed differential is malfunctioning. • No warning lamps to notify you , loud roaring, grinding noise can be heard .

GM is only recalling the CTS-V series and no other CTS when its clear and evident that all CTS's 2014-2015 DIFFERENTIALS ARE DEFECTIVE. OWNERS ARE LEFT WITH NO OPTIONS AND VEHICLE OF NO VALUE = COMPLETE LOSS DUE TO GM STOPPING PRODUCTION OF DIFFERENTIAL & PROVIDING NO RECALL. THERE ARE NO DIFFERENTIALS IN THE USA TO REPAIR VEHICLE. Differential are bad in these cars with only 60,000 miles and and if it goes out, car could lock up causing an accident. Recall has been issued but not for all vehicles. Which there are a lot more vehicles with the issue than that have an recall put in them. 2014 Cadillac CTS RWD 3.6L like mine should be recalled immediately.
I notice the differential was leaking and had to repair it but I am not certain if this will happen again
I started to notice pulsation upon braking and replaced my pads and rotors, at the same time switching from winter wheels to summer wheels. The pulsation continued, and then I noticed a rumbling sound from the rear end that has grown increasingly loud over the past three days, and now it is accompanied by wobbling upon braking at speed. An independent shop today diagnosed it as a rapidly failing rear differential. The car has 70,000 miles and no accidents. As I understand it, the CTS-V version of the same vehicle has a recall for failing differentials that are the very same part that's used in these non-V models. The web is full of complaints from other owners of my model who are experiencing this same issue. It is a catastrophic failure part that could cause the rear end of the car to lock up at speed. Please address ASAP, thank...
I have been told my car needs a front and rear differential. I have heard a low rumbling in the car for some time which I have now been told that sound was the differential breaking down. My car has been at dealership for 2 months now
Load roaring in back of car sounds like going snap in half. Upon checking the rear differential loud noise
2014 Cadillac CTS rear differential with 55,000 miles started to make a wobbling noise going past 10 mph. Went to third party mechanic and was shown metal shavings coming from rear end
The contact owns a 2014 Cadillac CTS. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle and depressing the accelerator pedal, a metal noise was heard. The contact stated that no warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the rear brakes were replaced however, the contact was informed that the failure was the rear differential axle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and advised the contact to have the failure diagnosed at a dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer nor was a case opened. The contact was referencing the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V038000 (Power Train). The manufacturer informed the contact that only the sports version was included in the recall due to the plant of manufacture. The approximate failure mileage was 92,000.
Rear differential failure at low mileage
Rear differential lock up at high speed. Loss of control. Apparently a common problem with Cadillac rear differentials. Most occur under 50,000 miles. Mine had 54,000 miles. Seals fail and differential fluid drains out. Some people have had 3 replacements under warrantee. Cannot find and replacements as they are "back ordered" according to dealerships.
During a service appointment, on my 2014 Cadillac CTS, the dealership pointed out that both axle seals on the differential appears to be leaking. On a subsequent inspection conducted on 8/24/2021, by the dealership, it was confirmed that both axle seals were leaking. At the time of the inspection the vehicle had 120,873 miles showing on the odometer. These two reports were the initial indication that the axle seal were leaking. The dealership has maintained the vehicle since I purchased it from them. I checked to see was if there was a Service Bulletin on this issue, but there was none. However, there was a Service Bulletin (Bulletin No. PIP5075A) concerning "Rear Axle Leak From The Vent" on the differential on the 2011-2013 Cadillac CTS and CTS-V. I contend that GM over compensated for the vent leak and now the vent on the differential of the 2014 Cadillac CTS does...

I brought my car to my trusted local mechanic, and he informed me that the noise I was hearing from the rear of my car was the differential. He also informed me that it was dangerous because it could lock up, causing my car to go into a skid and lose control. I did some due diligence on the internet and discovered it’s a common problem, and although it has been recalled on the sub model of the V sport, the standard CTS has not been recalled.
The contact owns a 2014 Cadillac CTS. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 mph, there was a loud sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. The speed was reduced however, the sound became louder. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the rear differential had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The local dealer was contacted and informed of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 177,000.

HEARD A WHINING NOISE COMING FROM THE BACK OF MY VEHICLE WHEN STEPPING ON THE ACCELORATOR, TOOK MY VEHICLE IN TO GET A INSPECTION AND TURNS OUT THE ROLL PINS IN THE REAR-AXLE DIFFERENTIAL ARE CLOSE TO FRACTURING, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. THERE IS ALREADY A RECALL IN THIS REGUARD TO 2014-15 CADILLAC CTS (V-SPORT) MODELS BUT NO OTHER CTS MODELS GET THE RECALL. I HAVE A 2014 CADILLAC CTS (LUXURY) SEDAN, HOPING THERE WILL BE A RECALL FOR ALL CTS MODELS IN REGARDS TO THE HUGE SAFETY ISSUE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 CADILLAC CTS. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THERE WAS AN ABNORMALLY LOUD SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE CONTACT WAS RELATING THE ISSUE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 20V038000 (POWER TRAIN). THE CONTACT STATED NO WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE WHEEL BEARINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000.
2014 CADILLAC CTS AWD. VEHICLE STARTED HESITATING WHILE TURNING. WHICH TURNED INTO A WHINE AND THEN GRINDING FROM THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL. NOISE STARTS AT 30 MPH AND INCREASES AS SPEED INCREASES. HAVE SEEN MANY CASES OF CADILLAC REAR DIFFERENTIAL FAILING. ISSUE VERIFIED BY THE DEALERSHIP FEBRUARY 2021. NOW GM HAS NO REPLACEMENT UNITS OR REPAIR PARTS FOR THIS DIFFERENTIAL. GM PART 84110751
STARTING AROUND THE END OF FEBRUARY, MY 2014 CTS 3.6 AWD STARTED TO HAVE NOISE FROM THE REAR END WHILE DRIVING. THE NOISE BECOMES LOUDER IF I DRIVE FASTER AND THE CAR WOBBLES. I FEEL EXTREME UNSAFE AND HAVE VISITED INDIVIDUAL MECHANICS, AND MECHANICS TOLD ME THE ISSUE IS FROM THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL. THEY SAID THEY DON'T HAVE THE PARTS, AND CANNOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THROUGH MY RESEARCH, THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE COMMON AMONG THE CTS MODEL. HOWEVER, WHILE THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE CTS VSPORT, NO ACTIONS ARE TAKEN FOR OTHER VERSIONS OF CTS. FROM NHTSA COMPLAINT SITE, SEVERAL COMPLIANT CASES HAVE BEEN FILED FOR THE NON-SPORT CTS. THERE ARE OTHER CASES MENTIONED ACROSS THE INTERNET: HTTPS://YOUTU.BE/UCMIMOHFEPQ . THIS PROBLEM SOULD BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY TO AVOID SAFETY RISKS. I BELIEVE THIS REAR DIFFERENTIAL ISSUE IS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM. I WOULD LIKE TO 1.GET REPLACEMENT...
THERE HAVE BEEN MANY, MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE 2014 CADILLAC CTS 3RD GEN REAR DIFFERENTIAL GOING OUT AT WAY TO SOON. BEFORE THE 80K MILE MARK IN ALOT OF THESE CARS. AS EXPENSIVE AND RARE AS THIS PART IS, IT SHOULD NOT BE FAILING OR LEAKING SO SOON, AS IT IS THE MAIN PART THAT MOVES THE WHEELS IN A RWD CAR. I DID NOT BELIEVE IT AT FIRST BUT AFTER MY PURCHASE THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL WENT BAD AT ONLY 75K MILES. I REPLACED IT, WITH A USED REAR DIFF THAT HAD ONLY 50K MILES, 10K MILES LATER, IT STARTS LEAKING AND GOING BAD AGAIN. EVEN USED ONES ARE A WHOPPING $1K AND UP. THIS PART SHOULD DEFINITELY BE INVESTIGATED AT ALL DEALERSHIPS NATIONWIDE, I ASSURE YOU THAT THERE IS AN UNREASONABLE AMOUNT OF RECORDS OF THIS PART GOING BAD TO SOON.
BOUGHT THIS CAR AND AFTER BUYING IT, I HEARD A VIBRATION. FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS THE ROAD AND THEN THOUGHT IT WAS THE TIRES. I STARTED CHECKING AROUND FOR TIRES WHEN IT BECAME VERY NOISY SO I CALLED THE DEALER. HE FIRST SAID IT WAS THE POWER TRAIN FLUID NEEDED CHANGED BUT LATER CALLED AND SAID IT WAS THE TORQUE CONVERTER. THIS CAR HAS LESS THA 40,000 MILES.
ON OCTOBER 27TH, I TOOK MY CAR TO THE SHOP FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND INSPECTION. I WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT MY REAR DIFFERENTIAL WAS GOING OUT AND THERE WERE METAL SHAVINGS IN THE COMPARTMENT. THE SALES REP, NICK, SAID THERE WAS NOT A RECALL AND THE REPAIR WOULD BE $3300. THROUGH MY RESEARCH THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR "DEFECTIVE ROLLING PINS IN THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL THAT WERE FATIGUING AND FRACTURING AND EVENTUALLY CAUSING THE REAR END TO LOCK UP" BUT ONLY FOR THE 2014 CADILLAC CTS-V NOT THE REGULAR CTS. SINCE THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE, I HAD TO RENT A CAR ON 11/11 TO GET TO AND FROM WORK. AFTER CONVERSATIONS NOT RECEIVING ANY COOPERATION FROM CADILLAC CORPORATION, I WAS REFERRED TO GM CORPORATION. THEY NEGOTIATED A DISCOUNT, REDUCING THE COST FOR REPAIR FROM $3300 TO $1400. THE REPAIR WAS NOT COMPLETED UNTIL 12/1. THEY...
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 CADILLAC CTS. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE HIS SISTER WAS DRIVING 40 MPH, SHE HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE. THE CONTACT STATED NO WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE DRIVER CONTINUED DRIVING TO HER DESTINATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL WAS NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT CALLED GATEWAY CHEVROLET CADILLAC (501 38TH ST S, FARGO, ND 58103; (701) 282-5522) AND MADE THE DEALER AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT ASSOCIATED THE FAILURE WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 20V038000 (POWER TRAIN) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000.
THIS COMPLAINT IS REGARDING AN ACTIVE RECALL ON MY CADILLAC...MANUFACTURER RECALL NUMBERN192279370 AND NHTSA RECALL NUMBER20V038. I WAS NOTIFIED OF THIS RECALL AND IN MAY 2020 THAT THE PARTS TO FIX THE CAR WERE NOW AVAILABLE. I WENT TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE REPAIR AND THE PARTS WERE NO LONGER AVAILABLE AND WERE ON BACK ORDER. AS OF THIS DATE THE PARTS ARE STILL NOT AVAILABLE. IT SOUNDS LIKE THIS RECALL COULD POTENTIALLY BE A SERIOUS ISSUE, BUT GM SEEMS LIKE THEY ARE DRAGGING THEIR FEET ON FIXING THE PROBLEM! IT WILL SOON BE 5 MONTHS SINCE I WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PARTS SUPPOSEDLY BEING AVAILABLE BUT MY CAR IS STILL NOT REPAIRED. IT SEEMS A BIT UNREASONABLE TO ME FOR THIS TO BE TAKING SOOOO LONG TO FIX A SERIOUS FLAW IN THE DIFFERENTIAL. IS THERE ANYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE TO SPEED THIS PROCESS UP? THANK YOU...
