NHTSA Complaint #11685018 — 2019 FORD F-150

The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the vehicle lost motive power while depressing the accelerator pedal, and hesitated while accelerating after a complete stop. The contact stated that occasionally the check engine warning light illuminated, and the dipstick was checked, and the engine oil was low. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, and an oil and oil filter change was performed as part of an oil consumption test. On the next visit for an oil change, the dealer discovered that the engine was consuming a quart of engine oil between oil changes. The contact inspected the vehicle and discovered that the engine was consuming three quarts of engine oil between oil changes. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer ,where a diagnostic was performed, and the contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the engine failure and the manufacturer spoke with the dealer about the repair. The contact was later informed that the manufacturer would not assist with the cost of replacing the engine. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. Recently, while driving 15 MPH and towing a trailer, the electric power steering assist failed and the messages "Steering Assist Fault", Traction Control" and "ABS Fault" were displayed. The contact used excessive force to steer the vehicle back to the residence. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and was diagnosed with a defective rack and pinion. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.
