At a stop, the car began rapid acceleration by itself, the auto emergency brake began but it bypassed it and began accelerating again causing me to rear end someone at a red light
Continuously receiving error message to have front sensors cleaned. Vehicle brought into dealership several times, for weeks at a time. On last visit sensors replaced, and I was told that “ The front sensors have a level of damage caused by sand, salt and other road debris. This has resulted in some scratches which are triggering the sensors and giving you the warnings that you are referring to.” Given this, the front sensor issues are a manufacturing flaw. I asked this if the dealer and, given the stated cause of sand, salt and road debris the likely frequency. With no answer.
A message stating forward collision assist is unavailable. The adaptive cruise control does not see the vehicle in front of you. The vehicle randomly emergency brakes. And a four Mile drive it would emergency brake three times. Dealer stated it was fixed. I return to the vehicle an hour later stating the problem persists and it is not fixed or safe to drive. I have a text from the dealer confirming the problem persists they have unable to diagnose or repair. The car is in their possession since June 7th 2025
A squirrel entered my ID.4 through the right wheel well while I was at work and it began to make a nest in the front of my engine compartment. I was alerted to the problem by all of the dashboard warning lights flashing the ACC and related front safety systems. The squirrel had chewed through the harness wires down to the connectors on the 8 and 9 connectors and the 6 pin connector. I know it was a squirrel because I saw it in the engine compartment when I opened the hood and other coworkers had nests in their hood areas. No damage to thier vehicle because the critical wires were not so carelessly exposed.
I was easing into a parking spot and braking when the car suddenly and uncontrollablly accelerated, leveling a light pole in front of me and finally coming to a stop on top of the light pole base
After NHTSA 919A been applied for my VW ID4, NHTSA Recall ID Number 24V875 was not properly addressed. 1 week after the recall completed by Centenial VW, I still have computer crash and blackout in the main dash and infotainment systems. I've shown these photos to David Lucero at Centenial VW service and he claims it was done properly. Attached is the photos.
While driving the vehicles safety features automatically turn off and the screens in the car go blank and then come back on after a few minutes. When we contacted the dealer and the manufacturer we were told there was no fix and to just pull over and restart the car. The dealer told us to treat it like a cell phone that isn’t working and just turn it off and turn it back on.
The rear passenger side door unlocked on its own . The display screen goes blank for approx 10-15 seconds while driving .
So our door handles have not been working to the point where my kids are stuck in the car and they can’t open the door and from the outside we are not able to open the door. We have safety warnings that pop up often then disappear and also we have our screens turn black and take a mom to turn back on. We have called VW corporate and they told us to keep taking it in then we take it for service and they can’t do anything due to them not having a solution to fix these issues because their under recalls and were physically having the issues they can’t do anything. It’s annoying and it’s a huge safety issue for us and our kids!!
The electronic display has a recall. The display will just blackout at times leaving nothjng readable and not functionable. The collision warning systems constantly go off without anything being in our way causing the car to stop drastically causing passengers to experience severe jolting. This happens often. Door handle defects that are recalled. All recalled issues cannot be fixed according to VW. VW will not take back the car or buy back the car. They currently have a “no sell” on the id.4s and will not buy them back. We cant even get out of this car.
Accident avoidance features I've purchased in the car many times does not work. 1. Proximity sensor does not alert when needed Twice in the last month, vehicle approaching from the right (passenger side) darted forward without any warning. Once in the parking lot and another car also approached from a stopped light (which he broken) causing me to swerve and hit the brake hard on an intersection. 2. Blind spot light on both the driver and passenger mirror only work about 80% or 4/5 times. You can track these intentionally when passing another car, or be passed by a car to the right or left. 3. Proximity alert sounds when at a standstill on a traffic light. Even slightest movement on the brake pedal will sometimes trigger this false positive. I bought the car because of these key safety features and no longer believe these can be relied upon. Have...
Collision warnings/automatic breaking has failed on vehicle multiple times. Presumably due to the software/hardware not being able to process. This has led to several incidents of near collision when in travel assist (self driving) and in general operation where it has actively backed into objects. Dealer did not have comments on incidents. Also raised infotainment resetting during driving from current campaign which is 6+ months old and they did not have an ETA on a resolution. Recommend pushing a forced buy back campaign as VW is unable to fix these dangerous issues.
On 9/17/2024 roughly at 10:00PM, while in the drive-thru picking up food, my Volkswagen ID.4 suddenly self-accelerated out of nowhere as I was slowly driving towards the window to pay for food. I was completely shocked—I’ve never experienced anything like this. I tried to react quickly, but the car surged forward and slammed into a large cement light post. The impact was hard, and the car is now severely damaged. What really shook me was that none of the safety features I’ve come to rely on worked—there was no automatic braking, late front collision warning, and despite the heavy impact, none of the airbags deployed. I ended up feeling all bruised and now have some severe mid-back pain. The thought that I could have easily been hurt more seriously, or worse, could have harmed someone else if this had happened in a crowded area, is traumatizing. This has made me...
There is a recall on this vehicle and is very dangerous to drive. The screens go dark and we are unable to see how fast we are going. When this happens we also do not know if any of the safety features work. I have been told by the local VW dealer that as of right now there is no fix to this recall. I feel that VW should have better options for the consumer to be taken out of this vehicle. This is very dangerous and could really cause a lot of harm.
The infotainment system continuously goes out on a daily basis and I have to reboot it every time, the rear camera will delay or not come on at all and I have to put the car in neutral then back to reverse to get it back on. The speedometer screen goes out constantly and won’t show how fast I am driving or my battery percent. I don’t get the mileage I’m suppose to get out of a charge, it automatically breaks when driving on highways for no reason. Sometimes the screen will go white and show code. This car is highly dangerous to the public and nobody is helping me get out of it. It’s a recall with no fix available and I can’t even get a loaner or anything.
There's two screens in the car. One displays speed and other functional items. The other one is the infotainment screen. In random occasions, BOTH screens go black for over a minute, meaning that the system reboots but it takes over a minute to start again, leaving the driver without any critical information while driving (speed, turn signals, warnings, etc).
Was stationary in dense traffic, all waiting for a local bridge to open. We had been waiting for 10 or so minutes. Had braked and stopped close to car in front, car in Auto Hold. All of a sudden, my car accelerated quickly into stationary car in front, twice I believe, before I was able to brake and turn car off. I do not know why this happened or whether there were any warnings. Affected my car, car in front of me, and car in front of them. No one hurt, my car front rather damaged, perhaps $12,000+, car in front damaged front and rear. We were able to drive away, but my car not safe to drive. Is currently parked and waiting to be towed once collision shop space is available. I have not taken to dealer to test as is not safe to drive. No one has inspected...
My 2023 ID4 suddenly accelerated and lunged forward (while my foot was on the brake) as I was turning right into a parking spot. I was going very slow with my foot on the brake . The ID4 lurched forward which propelled me in the wall of a concrete building that I was parking at (luckily no damage to the building). The acceleration was so powerful it’s like I floored it and frightening. None of the warning signals, sensors or collision warnings went off, nor did the emergency braking (when an object is too close in the front of the vehicle). After the ID4 went into the wall- it had registered that there was a collision (but nothing before). There was damage to the lower plastic bumper, the hood popped open (the latch to open the hood inside the vehicle now did not work) and some paint scratches. This had...
I was halfway into a parking stall. There was a cement sign post at the end of the stall and a truck facing me opposite. About six feet from the post the car accelerated and glanced off the post and hit the truck slightly. It happened very fast but I am 99% sure the car accelerated on its own. We did a search afterwards and found many reports of our model doing similar things.
1. FRONT COLLISION WARNING SENSOR DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE WORKING. THE FRONT SENSOR DOES NOT DETECT ANYTHING IN THE FRONT WHILE IN DRIVING MODE. COULD BE A SOFTWARE OR SENSOR ISSUE. NEEDS TO BE CHECKED OUT. 2. WHEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, USUALLY ON THE STOP SIGN OR RED LIGHT. SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE AUTOMATICALLY SWITCHES OFF OR GOES TO THE PARK MODE. IN ORDER TO SWITCH ON THE VEHICLE, I NEED TO STEP OUT OF THE VEHICLE, LOCK THE DOORS, THEN UNLOCK THE DOORS, THEN I CAN RESTART THE VEHICLE. TO DRIVE. LOOKS LIKE THERE MUST BE A SOFTWARE ISSUE. NEEDS TO BE CHECKED FOR THE SAFETY AND CONVINCE.
Instrument panel to turned black, thus blocking access to essential information, such as current speed of the vehicle, the status of cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keeping assistance, and parking collision warning. The problem happened couple of times. Also, the Carplay feature freezes and is interrupted a lot.
Volkswagen Group of America 2200 Woodland Pointe Avenue Herndon, VA 20171 (248) To Whom It May Concern RE: ID.4 VIN: [XXX] Unexpected acceleration The above vehicle was involved in an unwarranted accident fortunately only involving vehicles. In a parking lot at rolling speed while turning right into the parking space the vehicle charged ahead full throttle crossing a parking bumper, 8’-0” inch loose dirt, another parking pumper, and still full throttle into a Tesla Y in the opposing parking space. Many including the investigating State Trooper, the body shop working on the vehicle, and numerous internet similar accidents strongly suggested an unsafe condition vs. an unsafe action. We drive a Mazda with the tech equipment, other Tesla’s, etc. and all have the emergency braking benefit. They will not drive themselves into a wall, parked car etc. Additionally the air bags did not deploy - wife’s shoulder was bruised significantly. Understandably, my wife no...
I have never been in a car accident in my entire life. This was my first ever electric vehicle, and I really loved driving it for the one week I owned it before the brakes failed to stop it. On 03/31 I had to restart the software several times because it froze when i was trying to connect it to Apple Carplay, but it was fine the next day. During the crash, I had the brake collision assistance on, but unfortunately it did not assist me in trying to stop, even when I pressed down on the brake pedal completely. When I tried to turn the steering wheel, that had locked and I was unable to avoid hitting a sign and curb. The road I had the incident on is the one I take to work every day and I have never had an issue. There was no issues with...
Our forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, rear cross traffic warning systems stopped working on our 2023 ID.4 with 2500 miles on it about 2 weeks ago. Took it to the dealership on 3/3/23 for repairs, after 4 hours the tech came out and was clueless what to what was causing the issue. They requested I leave the vehicle there the rest of the day so a tech from a different location could remote into the vehicle. After another 4-5 hours I was informed they "thought" one of the control modules was defective and needed to be replaced. They say this part has no ETA and would likely take anywhere from several weeks to MANY months to come in. VW does not consider any of these items a "safety issue" and refused to provide a loaner until parts became available.
