2022 TESLA MODEL Y Back Over Prevention Warnings Problems

The issue I encountered was with Tesla's Smart Summon Feature. While using the feature, the car crossed the parking line and crashed directly into a car parked beside it. Happening so quickly I could not react in time. All of the cameras and sensors were in working order and it seems to have been a software related issue. The safety of anyone around the vehicle could have been at risk thankfully no one was hurt. The vehicle has since been inspected by insurance and damages to both cars were repaired. There were no warnings of any kind prior to the collision. I have a video from the on-board cameras of the entire incident.

On 9/4/23, I encountered a serious malfunction with my Model Y. The issue in question involved the vehicle crashing into a wall on the top level of a parking structure while using the “Smart Summon” feature in Tesla’s mobile app. The “Smart Summon” feature allows you to use the Tesla app to retrieve the vehicle and have it move to your location (within 12 meters) while you are standing outside of the vehicle. This malfunction rendered the vehicle unsafe to drive and significantly affected its performance. I immediately contacted Tesla's customer support and was advised to take my vehicle to the nearest Tesla Service Center or certified repair service center. The Tesla Service Center located in West Covina, CA, performed a diagnostics inspection and technicians said that due to the “Smart Summon” feature being a beta version, they do not take responsibility for the damage caused. The proximity sensor alerts do not work with Tesla vision and resulted in a minor collision with adjacent vehicle while manually parking. With the removal of the ultrasonic sensors from the alert system, Tesla is not reliable anymore for distance warning and is responsible for accidents to to the false sense of confidence provided by that system

Summon feature has never worked properly and has always tried to crash itself into cars next to it or drive the wrong way down the parking lot with no one inside. I have several videos of the car trying to crash itself after driving less than 4ft out of a parking spot at Walmart. Couldn't even make it 100ft to the shopping cart deposit. You cant summon and record at the same time with your phone so when it failed I switched to record. Before that car was driving itself up the sidewalk towards the entrance of the building where people were entering and exiting, thank goodness for the concrete pilons. Car did not stop after I parked and continued to go forward and hit another parked a car Even with my foot on the break. No warning light of any sor. This incident happened at 5:35 PM Pacific time on Monday, September 12. I made an appointment with the service department and it took the car there on September 23, 2022, . They only asked me about the time this happened and they said you’re going to send it to engineers and will get back to you. They did even Care to look at the car or inspect it. Since then, no one ever contacted me. I was lucky that this truck was in front of my car otherwise if there was anyone walking they would have been killed.

In accelerating of itself, both my own life and that of a potential bystander were in danger. I had no time to react to the sudden acceleration. This has never happened to me in over fifty years of driving and it was very obviously the result of a car malfunction. In addition, the automatic emergency braking function failed. There were no previous messages, symptoms, or signs. The car has been at the shop for three months. The dealer has failed to give us any feedback as to why the accident happened. All they have said is that they don't have the parts that they need to change. It was only after two and half months that they reached out to me.
