Front Windshield crack so easily that I have to replace it two times already. The first time the windshield crack from using the defrost in the snow, and the second time was a small rock while I was driving on the highway. I've driven many cars in the past and have had rocks strike my windshield all the time and never experienced anything like this. I'm surprised the windshield recall isn't extended to the 2021 model Outback yet.
Fragile windshield. I’m just under a year of ownership and I replaced the windshield twice so far so I’m on my third one. First time was about a month in, no visible strike mark. Started on the Driver side halfway up and spread daily horizontally towards the passenger side and within a day or two was half the windshield. Second one was nine or 10 months out. Tiny strike basically did the same spread. In traffic a tiny rock got tossed up at low speed and I have a Starbust right now. Hopefully it won’t spread overnight before I can get it epoxied because then I will be on my fourth windshield before one year of ownership. Decades of other models and cars and same driving locations and I’ve never had to replace a windshield or repair one. Currently at 16K miles.
In February 2021 my windshield was cracked in the lower left corner for an unknown reason. Windshield was inspected by manufacturer service center and thought to be result of an impact and was then replaced. December 2021 the windshield was again cracked in the lower left corner and again needs to be replaced. Appears to also be the result of an impact but will need to be determined by insurance. Both instances the windshield cracked in the bottom left corner and the crack began to quickly grow across the drivers side to the top center of the windshield.
The sunroof on my 2021 Subaru Outback exploded for no apparent reason while I was driving. There was no impact by any object, and the glass shattered into innumerable pieces, suggesting it was definitively tempered, not laminated, glass. The weather was sunny and 50 degrees Fahrenheit. I happened to have my sunroof shade closed - if I hadn’t, I would have gotten glass in my hair and possibly in my eyes while driving my car.
Windshield developed a large crack for no apparent reason. There is no sign of an impact from an object. Vehicle was parked outside when outside temperature dropped overnight. Crack over 6” long appeared the next morning.
We purchased a new 2021 Outback Subaru 2 months ago. Three days ago, on 11/12/21, a crack appeared on the windshield overnight, while the car was parked on our driveway. Nothing hit our car while we were driving and there's nothing that stands above the car that could have fallen on it while parked at our house. The crack is linear and started on the very left side right above the driver's sight. It started at about 5 inches long and the next day was already extending almost halfway through the windshield length. We are highly suspicious that the crack is a result of a defective windshield specially after learning that Subaru has several lawsuits regarding this same issue. We had to stop driving the car in fear that the windshield may completely break at any time. My husband contacted Subaru twice and the representatives told him someone would soon...
Front window crack without being struck by rock or any other object in the second month of ownership.
Windshield spontaneously cracked on passenger side at eye level after 5 months, 5,700 miles
I am on my third cracked windshield in FOUR MONTHS! First crack in July 2021, second in August 2021, third in early October 2021. Haven’t replaced the latest as I’m concerned about insurance rate increases. Each time the crack appears in the bottom of the drivers side and spreads to more than 12 inches in minutes. Summer in Utah is typically not problematic for cracked windshields. All windshields have been replaced with Subaru product as aftermarket products don’t exist.
A small object struck the windshield on the lower driver side, it created a horizontal crack about 1.5 ft long within a minute.
This is my second experience with a cracked windshield in the 6 months I have owned this vehicle. The first time the windshield cracked I was driving on the interstate and the windshield simply cracked. No debris impact, no bumps, just a long crack running from the top center of the glass down apx 8 inches. Subaru replaced under warranty. The second time the glass cracked I was driving on the interstate and was hit by a small piece of debris. So small it took a moment to find the point of impact. The crack immediately started to spread and after a few hours was apx 12 inches long. After apx 2 weeks the crack has run and is apx 2.5 feet. Insurance claim has been filed, but due to a shortage of glass the repair has not been completed.
Windshield suddenly cracked, starting from bottom center of the window, crack moved up about 6" and then turned 90 degrees towards passenger side and went another 6". No object hit the window or car; it just spontaneously cracked from bottom then moved upwards.
Windshield spontaneously cracked. No warning.
As I was getting into my vehicle to drive to work the morning of Monday August 30th,I noticed a large crack in the windshield starting at the passenger side to the middle of the windshield. Vehicle was parked in driveway over the weekend and no damage was seen on the outside of the winshield.
My wife has purchased Subaru 2021 Outback on May 2021. The windshield got cracked while it was parked in a driveway. It looks there was no sign of impact on the crack. The windshield of the Outback looks very susceptible to crack.
After less than 3,000 miles and 6 months, the windshield spontaneously cracked from about 1/3 the way up the driver-side post horizontally about 12” toward the center of the car, then up vertically about 10” and then horizontally about 24” further toward the center of the car. This was reported to Subaru of America with Case # 1-73126830225 on 2021-08-18.
Cracked windshield while parked in the garage
Windshield cracked on a new 2021 car, while driving in the city in clear weather and light traffic. The crack runs horizontally for about 10 inches and then turn vertical for the same height. I do not think it was hit by anything. Dealer inspection will be taken up soon.
During heavy rains, the vehicles leak water into the driver's side wheel well. Numerous times back to the dealer and the vehicle being piece by piece all seals are being replaced. As per numerous blogs on Subaru forums, an indication of a faulty windshield seal could be the issue, but the dealership refuses to replace or reset the windshield seal. Bought the car on June 28, 2021, and have been to the dealership 3 times for the same issue. The dealership is replacing seals on the skylight and door but as of yet no resolution. At the time of this complaint, the vehicle has been at dealership for 3 weeks with no resolution.
The glass on my 2021 subaru outback that I purchased less than 2 months ago has started cracking from the bottom next to vin number and spread all the way to the center of the glass within 3 hours.
While driving on residential street, I heard a pop and saw my windshield crack. My speed at the time of this incident was 30mph. There was no impact with a foreign object. Crack is in front of the Eyesight camera and is affecting the functionality of vehicle's safety features. This is a 2021 Outback with approximately 3200 miles.
The windshield cracked shortly after purchase. We had the windshield replaced and within 4 months the windshield is now chipped in three places. This is a safety issue because a cracked windshield impairs visibility while driving.
Windshield spontaneously cracked where the mirror was atached to the glass. There is a concave indentation where the mirror was attached and we found the mirror hanging by a wire and small glass pieces on the dash. Temps were in the low 90s. No one has modified or put any unusual pressure on the mirror, no decorations were attached. The outside of the glass has no chips or cracks anywhere in the glass which was confirmed by the local Safelite dealer. This vehicle was purchased new on May 7, 2021. Location of incident was Temecula, CA. I asked the local dealer to repair under warranty and was told that there is no manufacturer warranty on glass. Obviously having your windshield spontaneously crack and the rearview mirror falling off would be a distraction at highway speeds.
Windshield cracked on the bottom left of driver's side and continued up and across. There was no point of impact. Getting gas and got back in the car and the crack had formed. Crack grew by 3" just sitting in the driveway. Brand new car with approximately 1400 miles on it when it happened.
Car was parked outside. We returned to vehicle and noticed that front windshield had large crack beginning in bottom right and was 2-3 feet in length. The crack grew overnight. This was in a place of business and we do not suspect vandalism. It was a hot day (over 90-degrees with humidity). The air conditioner had been running inside the vehicle. Vehicle has less than 6,000 miles.
While driving down the highway, a small object (based on sound) struck the windshield and caused a small chip. Approximately one minute later, the chip splintered into a four way crack, with two legs showing over 12 inches of crack. Over the next few hours, the cracks grew by over 6 inches. After 3 days the cracks have grown vertically to the edges, and horizontally to 3/4 of the windshield, with additional cracks spidering from original chip. The cracks continue to grow daily. Due to the specialized windshield, immediate replacement is not possible. Chip repair was never available due to immediate spidering of windshield. I am replacing the windshield next week (earliest appointment available).
* The windshield cracked while driving. To the best of my knowledge, nothing hit the windshield, it just cracked. I have not yet repaired it but am getting estimates. * Cracked windshields are a safety issue * UNKNOWN * No * No
Driving down the highway on 6/10/21 my windshield popped and cracked on its own at the center bottom and then proceeded to crack up and over in the driver's line of sight within 24 hours. My crack is consistent with service bulletin #12-192-15R/ a lawsuit for previous year models.
LARGE CRACK FORMED IN WINDSHIELD AFTER PARKING ON AN OUTDOOR LOT ON A SUNNY DAY AND USING A SUNSHADE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE CAR. PARKED FOR ABOUT 5 HOURS AND RETURNED TO THE CRACK. THERE WERE NO CRACKS OR DINGS PRIOR TO PARKING, AND NO TRAUMA TO ANY OTHER PART OF THE CAR BODY OR GLASS.

AN EMPTY PLASTIC BOX FELL ON THE WINDSHIELD FROM MAYBE 2 FEET. THE WINDSHIELD BASICALLY SHATTERED, WITH PIECES OF GLASS IN THE CAR. WE INFORMED OUR DEALERSHIP THAT THIS IS A NEW CAR, AND WE ARE VERY SCARED THAT THEIR IS A DEFECT BASED ON THE IMPACT THAT WE SAW. SUBARU DISCREDITED OUR CLAIM. WE HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING WE CAN DO INFORM THEM TO LOOK INTO THIS POSSIBLE SAFETY ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, IN A GARAGE WHEN THE EMPTY BOX FELL ON THE WIND SHIELD. NOW WE ARE PAYING TO REPLACE THE CRACK WINDSHIELD.
JUST GOT A NEW CAR IN JAN 2021. WINDSHIELD GOT CHIPPED EASILY. I ALREADY TRIED WITH GLASSES REPAIR KIT SEVERAL TIMES. AND RECENTLY IT GOT CRACKED LINE (AROUND 30CM 90 DEGREE). THE SAME ROUTE TO WORK I DROVE WITH MY OLD 2006 TOYOTA RAV4 AND NEVER GOT ANY CHIP FOR 6 YEARS. UNTIL I GOT THIS NEW 2021 OUTACK, I HAVE TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD FOR LESS THAN 60 DAYS OF DRIVING. ONE OF MY FRIENDS GOT THE SAME TRIM OF CAR THE SAME MONTH ALSO GO REPLACED WINDSHIELD LAST WEEK. THE ROUTE IS ON HWY880 FROM FREMONT TO SAN JOSE, CA AREA.
SPONTANEOUS CRACK IN LOWER PART OF WINDSHIELD ON PASSENGER SIDE. CRACK WAS OBSERVED AFTER CLOSING DOOR WHILE PARKED.
THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IN 2 MONTHS THE FRONT WINDSHIELD ON MY 2021 OUTBACK HAS CRACKED AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. BOTH TIMES HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY. NOT DRIVING THROUGH A CONSTRUCTION AREA OR ANYTHING. JUST DRIVING AND HEAR A NOICE AND SEE A 12 INCH CRACK. UPLOADING 2 IMAGES ONE IS FROM TODAY AND THE OTHER IS FROM 2/5/2021.
ON MARCH 12, 2021, I WAS SITTING IN MY IDLE 2021 SUBARU OUTBACK WHEN I HEARD A QUICK POP SOUND. WHEN I LOOKED UP, THERE WAS A CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD. THERE WAS NO PREVIOUS DAMAGE TO THE WINDSHIELD. I CURRENTLY HAVE 3600 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THE CRACK IS VERY LINEAR. THE CAR WASN'T RUNNING AND THE WEATHER WAS PLEASANT AROUND 65 DEGREES.
I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR 4 MONTHS. IT HAS SEVEN THOUSAND MILES ON IT. A CRACK APPEARED OVERNIGHT AT THE LEFT SIDE (DRIVERS SIDE) TO THE MIDDLE OF THE WINDSHIELD. THERE WAS NO ROCK AND DAMAGED DETECTED. IT JUST HAPPENED ON ITS OWN.
CRACK SUDDENLY APPEARED ON WINDSHIELD.
CRACKED WINDSHIELD WITHOUT IMPACT FROM BOTTOM THEY REPLACED IT BUT WITHIN A WEEK SECOND ONE CRACKED.
WINDSHIELD CRACKED AT 1200 MILES. CRACK STARTED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD. CRACK APPEARED WHEN ENTERING THE CAR. WHEN THE DOOR WAS CLOSED THERE WAS A LOUD POP AND THEN THERE WAS A CRACK
POSSESSION OF NEW VEHICLE WAS TAKEN 1/13/21. DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING ON 1/18/21, WINDSHIELD EXPERIENCED A SURFACE CHIP AND WAS REPAIRED THE SAME DAY BY AN AUTHORIZED TECHNICIAN. DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING ON 1/29/21, WINDSHIELD EXPERIENCED ANOTHER CHIP IN DIFFERENT LOCATION WHICH TURNED INTO AN APPROXIMATELY 10 INCH CRACK MINUTES LATER, BEYOND REPAIR. WINDSHIELD HAS NOT YET BEEN REPLACED.
BRAND NEW 2021 OUTBACK PREMIER @ 647 MILES AND WHILE PARKED OVERNIGHT IN OUR PRIVATE DRIVEWAY WE NOTICED THAT THE WINDSHIELD HAD CRACKED THE NEXT MORNING. LESS THAN 7 DAYS OF OWNERSHIP DEALER CLAIMS IT WAS A ROCK CHIP . THE WINDSHIELD IS SPLIT DOWN THE MIDDLE OF THE SCREEN. DEALER RESPONSE IS INSULTING. ESPECIALLY SINCE THEY KNOW THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH THE GLASS. DEALER PUSHED THEIR EXPENSIVE INSURANCE TO COVER WHEN WE PURCHASED THE CAR. WE DID NOT KNOW THIS WAS A RECURRING ISSUE AT THIS TIME WITH THE CARS. IF WE HAD KNOWN WE WOULD NOT HAVE PURCHASED THIS CAR. IT WILL ALWAYS BE AN ISSUE. WILL IT CRACK AGAIN? WHO PAYS, WILL IT LEAVE US STRANDED SOMEWHERE? SUBARU DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE WILLING TO STAND BY ITS PRODUCT AND TAKE CARE OF ITS CUSTOMERS
I HAD THE CAR ONLY 10 DAYS FROM THE DEALERSHIP, MY HUSBAND AND I WERE ON THE HIGHWAY HEADING TO AN EVENT WHEN WE HEARD A CRACK, I LOOKED UP AND THERE WAS A HORIZONTAL CRACK HEADING FROM LEFT TO RIGHT IN THE WINDSHIELD.
