During unrelated work, a mechanic discovered the retaining ring for recall N08 (rear axle pinion nut) was not installed and the pinion nut was loose enough to turn by hand. He stated the recall had either been performed incorrectly or not at all, and that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The recall shows “completed” in 2013, but the defect is still present. I contacted Stellantis Customer Care, submitted photos, and they confirmed in writing that if the defect still exists, the recall must be performed free of charge regardless of age, mileage, or ownership. I sent the photos of the missing ring, screenshots showing the recall marked completed, and Stellantis’ confirmation to the dealership before having the vehicle towed to verify coverage. 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 truck purchased used late May 2025 with 57000 miles. Late August 2025 with 60000 miles rear axle fell off when driving on Freeway at 60 miles per hour. Very serious accident was narrowly avoided as could not steer vehicle.Truck was serviced at dealership for recall of a pinion nut coming loose at 36107 miles in September 2013. Per this recall, the loose pinion nut can cause the axle to fail. The recall maintenance done in September 2013 at 36107 miles only lasted 24000 miles and serious safety issues reoccurred. In my opinion, on my vehicle the recall did not fix the problem. Now I am stuck with a $5000 repair on a vehicle with known recalls and safety issues that was supposedly fixed.Perhaps a second recall should be considered regarding this issue.
Me and my husband were driving down the road to go see a friend and all of a sudden the wheel hub assembly broke in half causing us to have to slam on our brakes and keep from crashing. The wheel almost ended up under our truck making the truck look like it was kachowing like Lightening McQueen from the movie Cars
I was driving to work on [XXX] when my rear end locked up and I slid sideways down [XXX]. I was going slower than normal due to slippery road conditions. The mechanic told me it was the pinion nut that froze up and locked up the gears and snapped the drive shaft. If it had been clear roads the truck probably would have flipped over. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed and determined that the rear axle differential pin retaining bolt had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 160,704.
Charging system failure at pcm causing low voltage and battery will not charge causing the vehicle to become disabled. I was on the interstate battery light came Om with system Low voltage code for engine light. The truck shut off and I was left without power steering or brakes. doing 75mph. Voltage regulator is in pcm and pcm needs replaced. Vehicle is still out of commission

The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the dealer declined to honor the recall repairs due to the age of the vehicle and possible liability issues. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 183,000.
The vehicle was repaired under recall, but was not correctly fixed. Now the rear differential is totally shot with no warning. My dealer says it will not be covered under recall warranty since I was not the owner at the time of the recall repair.

WE HAVE A 2010 DODGE RAM 1500 THAT WAS PURCHASED USED FROM A DEALER ON 8/15/19. VIN RECORDS INDICATE THAT RECALL WORK WAS PERFORMED IN 2014 TO SECURE THE PINION NUT. ON 8/31/20, WE WERE DRIVING AND HEARD A LOUD SOUND, OUR VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE, FISHTAIL AND THE REAR END LOCKED UP CAUSING US TO COME TO A STOP SIDEWAYS ACROSS 2 LANES OF TRAFFIC JUST MISSING HITTING A PEDISTRIAN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A MECHANIC WHOM AFTER INSPECTION STATED THERE WAS NO SECUREMENT DEVICE IN PLACE WHICH RESULTED IN THE PINION NUT COMING OUT CAUSING OUR DRIVESHAFT TO FALL OUT AND THE REAR END LOCK UP.

AROUND THE 115,000 MILE MARK THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL STARTED TO MAKE A WEIRD NOISE WHEN I WASN'T ACTIVELY ACCELERATING. WHEN I WAS COASTING I COULD TELL SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE REAR END OF MY VEHICLE. THE TRANSMISSION SHOP I BROUGHT IT TO CONFIRMED THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL BEARINGS HAVE GONE BAD. AT ONLY 115,000 THOUSANDS MILES I THOUGHT THIS WAS A MANUFACTURER ISSUE AND A SAFETY ISSUE. ANYWHERE FROM 10PMH OR FASTER THE GRINDING NOISE CAN BE HEARD.
DROVE DOWN THE ROAD AND THERE WAS A HUMMING SOUND FROM THE REAR END THAT PROGRESSIVELY GOT LOUDER THEN STARTED TO MAKE A RATTLING SHAKING SOUND AND LEAKING TRANSMISSION FLUID THEN WHEN WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD A LOUD BANG AND BACK WHEELS SEIZED UP COMPLETELY WHICH RESULTED IN MY SWERVING VIOLENTLY AND ENDING UP IN A DITCH. 2010 DODGE RAM 1500 W/ GEAR SHIFTER LOCATED ON STEERING COLUMN WAS PARKED IN A DRIVEWAY WHEN THE GEAR SHIFTER POPPED OUT OF GEAR AND BEGAN TO ROLL. AS A RESULT, OWNER OF VEHICLE SUFFERED LEFT ANKLE AND THORACIC FRACTURES REQUIRING HOSPITALIZATION. VEHICLE CAME TO REST AFTER CRASHING INTO A RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY.
AFTER TAKING THE TRUCK THROUGH AN AUTOMATED CAR WASH THE TRANSFER CASE SHIFT MOTOR ENGAGED PUTTING THE TRANSFER CASE IN 4 LOW. THIS HAPPENED IN A PARKING LOT AT LOW SPEED. IF THIS MALFUNCTION HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY IT WOULD LIKELY HAVE CAUSED LOSS OF CONTROL.
WHEN I STARTED THE TRUCK MONDAY MORNING AND PUT IT IN DRIVE, IT WENT STRAIGHT INTO FOURTH GEAR. I THOUGHT I HAD ACCIDENTALLY PUT IT IN MANUAL MODE, SO I TURNED IT OFF AND RESTARTED IT. IN THE DRIVE POSITION IT WOULD ONLY OPERATE IN FOURTH GEAR. AFTER A LITTLE RESEARCH I DISCOVERED ITS CALLED LIMP MODE AND IT SEEMS LIKE THE CULPRIT IS THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT SOLENOID, SOMETIMES CALLED THE RANGE SENSOR, PART NUMBER 68353383AB. I HAD TAKEN IT TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT?S WHAT THE CULPRIT WAS, BUT IF I WAS GOING TO REPLACE IT I MIGHT AS WELL REBUILD THE TRANSMISSION...$2800. NOT BEING ABLE TO AFFORD THIS, (NOR DID I THINK IT WAS NEEDED), I CALLED ADVANCED AUTO WHO ORDERED A SOLENOID PACK FOR ME, BUT IT WAS THE WRONG ONE, (4800171AA). THAT?S WHEN I CALLED CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE OFF 295 IN JACKSONVILLE...
DRIVING 25 MPH. REAR DIFFERENTIAL LOCKED UP. DRIVE LINE SEPARATED FROM THE PINION GEAR. VIOLENTLY THROWN INTO THE STEERING COLUMN. THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL WAS BEYOND REPAIR. A REPLACEMENT DIFFENENTIAL HAD TO BE REPLACED. EXPENSIVE REPAIR. CHRYSLER REFUSED TO REIMBURSE FOR THE REPAIR. SAID IT WAS MY FAULT FOR NOT KNOWING ABOUT THE EXISTING RECALL NOTICE. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF ANY SUCH RECALL UNTIL AFTER THE INCIDENT.

THE DRIVESHAFT ALSO DESTROYED THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL AND DAMAGED A LARGE ARE OF THE UNDER CARRIAGE. THIS BUT WAS UNDER RECALL AND AN ACCREDITED DEALERSHIP MADE THE INITIAL REPAIR BY REPLACING THE TRANSFER CASE AND DRIVESHAFT. THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL WAS REPAIRED. AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE MADE THE TRUCKS DRIVETRAIN WOULD NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY AND WOULD TRY TO SHIFT ITSELF INTO 4WD INTERMITTENTLY WITHOUT THE TRANSFER CASE SELECTOR BEING MOVED. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO TROUBLESHOOT THE PROBLEM FOR A NUMBER OF WEEKS BUT FINALLY DISCOVERED THE TRANSFER CASE MOTOR WAS BROKEN AND THAT THE INITIAL REPAIR SHOULD HAVE INCLUDED THIS PART AS IT WAS OBVIOUSLY DAMAGED IN THE INCIDENT BUT COULD NOT MAKE THE REPAIR BECAUSE IT...
DRIVING ABOUT 35 MPH AND A WHIRRING STARTED IN THE REAR END. ONLY HAPPENED WHEN I WAS COASTING, NOT WHEN GAS WAS APPLIED OR BRAKES. AFTER ABOUT 15 MINUTES OF DRIVING AND SEVERAL STOPS THE DRIVE SHAFT FELL OFF. I WAS COASTING DOWN HILL ON A TWO LANE ROAD AS THE NOISE GOT VERY LOUD. FIRST THERE WAS A CLUNK AND OBVIOUSLY SOMETHING WAS DRAGGING UNDERNEATH, WHICH I THOUGHT WAS THE MUFFLER. THERE WAS NO WHERE TO STOP ON THE ROAD SO CONTINUED TO COAST. LESS THAN 5 SECONDS LATER ANOTHER CLUNK AND THEN IT WAS QUIET, PIECE HAD FALLEN OFF. I WAS ABLE TO PULL TO SIDE OF ROAD BUT VEHICLE WAS INOPERABLE. ESTIMATE FROM DEALERSHIP IS TO REPLACE DRIVE SHAFT AND WHOLE REAR END ASSEMBLY, $6200. ONLY EXPLANATION GIVEN WAS THAT A U-JOINT BROKE AND FELL OFF. DRIVE SHAFT FALLING OUT DAMAGED WHOLE REAR END ASSEMBLY.

ELECTRICAL ISSUES HAVE BEEN PREVALENT SINCE THE DATE OF PURCHASE IN 2013. MUST BE A SHORT IN THE ENTIRE TRUCK SOMEWHERE. MY LIGHTS ON THE PASSENGER MIRROR BLINK ALL THE TIME WHILE RUNNING AND OR OPENING THE DOOR. HUBS/CV AXLES HAVE HAD TO REPLACE BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE 3 TIMES EACH NOW. THIS VEHICLE IN NOT USED AND ABUSED. I TAKE CARE OF IT WITH REGULAR MAINTENANCE. I HAVE HEARD FROM OTHERS WHO OWN SAME YEAR MODEL AND HAVE SEEN ONLINE ON FORUMS OTHERS HAVE HAD THESE ISSUES ALSO. THIS CAUSES THE CV, HUBS, AND ROTORS/BRAKES TO BE REPLACED.

WHILE IN REVERSE THE TRUCK MAKES A LOUD POPPING SOUND AND IT FEELS LIKE THE BRAKE IS GRABBING THE ROTOR. THE CALIPER WAS CHANGED AND THE ISSUE PERSISTS. I WAS TOLD BY THE LOCAL DODGE DEALERSHIP IT COULD BE THE DRIVE LINE REAR-END PINION NUT BACKING OFF THE BOLT THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE, EITHER WAY THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS AND THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. THIS ONLY OCCURS WHEN BACKING UP SLOWLY WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL PRESSED.

REAR DIFFERENTIAL/PINION FAILURE WHICH WAS REPLACED IN 2014 ACCORDING TO DODGE AND HAS FAILED AGAIN JANUARY 2018. LOUD NOISE IS HEARD FROM REAR OF TRUCK. IT WAS DIAGNOSED BY MECHANIC, NOW DEALER WANTS TO VERIFY. ENGINE HAS HAD TO HAVE NEW CAMS PUT IN. ALSO HAS HAD FAILED EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS. CURRENTLY, SAFETY RECALL 17V-821, WHICH COULD CASE A PARKED VEHICLE TO SUDDENLY ROLL AWAY, DOES NOT HAVE A REMEDY DUE TO LACK OF PARTS. BOTH OF THESE RECALLS ARE EITHER UNABLE OR WERE UNABLE TO BE PERFORMED DUE TO LACK OF PARTS. 12V-474 IS THE EXACT SAME RECALL AS 12V474000, CHRYSLER NUMBER M34, "THE NUT SECURING THE REAR AXLE PINION MY LOOSEN BECAUSE AN ADHESIVE PATCH WAS NOT INSTALLED DURING VEHICLE ASSEMBLY. DRIVER SIDE REAR WHEEL BEARING FAILED PREMATURELY. LED TO WHEEL BEARING SLOT ON AXLE SHAFT TO WEAR CAUSING AXLE SHAFT DAMAGE. IF I HAD NOT CAUGHT THIS EARLY THE AXLE SHAFT MAY HAVE FAILED COMPLETELY RESULTING IN CATASTROPHIC DAMAGE. FIRST NOTICED SIGNS OF DAMAGE WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION
WHILE DRIVING ON A STRAIGHT HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 60 MPH THE DRIVELINE CAME APART AT REAR DIFFERENTIAL CONNECTION. WHILE TRYING TO PULL OFF TOWARDS SHOULDER THE VEHICLE BEGIN TO SLIDE INSTEAD OF TURN. IT HAS SEEMED AS IF THE DIFFERENTIAL LOCKED UP AND JUST SNAPPED AT THE U JOINT. THE VEHICLE APPARENTLY HAD A RECALL FOR THAT PROBLEM AND WAS REPORTED THAT IT WAS TAKEN CARE OF IN NOVEMBER OF 2014. IT SUMMED UP TO A $2700 DAMAGE. WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED AND ONLY PUT 1003 MILES ON IT WHEN THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED. THIS VEHICLE WAS CONVERTED INTO A EMERGENCY RESPONSE VEHICLE FOR OUR COMPANY AND WE WERE FORTUNATE ENOUGH THIS DID NOT HAPPEN IN A 911 RESPONSE SETTINGS. THE DEALERSHIP HAS INVESTIGATED THE RECALL WORK AND HAS NOTIFIED US THAT IT HAS NEVER BEEN FIXED. *TR

A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A BODY SHOP WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT END AND DRIVER SIDE WERE DAMAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS PARTIALLY REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
I HAVE HAD THE RACK AND PINION NUT REPLACED ON A RECALL AND NOW IT'S ALL DOING IT AGAIN AND TRYING TO FIND OUT IF IT WOULD STILL BE COVERED AND CAUSING OTHER ISSUES IS IT STILL A RECALL ITEM THAT CAN BE TAKEN CARE OF IT'S ALL HAPPENING WHILE IN MOTION I HAVE HAD IT CHECKED OUT THREE TIMES AND THEY TELL ME IT'S THE BEARINGS AND THAT I SHOULD TAKE IT BACK TO THE CHRYSLER FOR THE RACK AND PINION NUT ISSUE THAT MAY HAVE CAUSED ALL THE PROBLEMS
AFTER THE FIRST RECALL OF THE PINION NUT CAN LOOSEN, CAUSING THE REAR AXLE TO SEIZE. THE DRIVESHAFT ALSO MAY DETACH, WHICH COULD CAUSE A CRASH. WE OPTED TO FIX THIS. SHORTLY AFTER THE SAME NOISE TOOK PLACE. THIS TIME IT IS THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL IS LOCKING UP. HOWEVER, THE DODGE SERVICE CENTER IS SAYING IT IS UNRELATED AND IT IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. THE BACK-END IS SEIZING - SO THERE IS MORE THAN ONE CRITICAL MECHANICAL ERROR IN THIS VEHICLE. CHRYSLER NEEDS TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE. THIS TIME I WANT MY VEHICLE ELIGIBLE FOR A BUY-BACK. ITS BEEN A LEMON. THE ELECTRICAL WENT OUT IN 2011. NO WINDOWS CAN GO UP OR DOWN. ITS A HORRIBLY MADE VEHICLE ALL THE WAY AROUND.

ROCKER PANELS ARE RUSTING FROM THE INSIDE OUT. CAUSING LARGE HOLES TO FORM. WHILE IN PARK, ROLLED THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW DOWN HEARD A METAL CLANK AND THE WINDOW WOULD NO LONGER GO UP OR DOWN, AS THE WINDOW REGULATOR FELL APART. WHILE DRIVING ON A COUNTRY ROAD, I NOTICED SLIGHT DIFFICULTY IN SHIFTING. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. UPON HAVING THE CODE READ, THE TRANSMISSION SELENOID IS STUCK OPEN. TIE ROD ENDS ARE LOOSENING AS WELL. SO MANY ISSUES ON A 6 YEAR OLD VEHICLE
AAFTER RECALL NHTSA 13V-038 HAD BEEN "REPAIRED" IN 2014, THE EXACT DESCRIPTION OF WHAT HAPPENS TO THE VEHICLE HAPPENED 2 YEARS LATER. "THE REAR AXLE PINION NUT ON YOUR VEHICLE MAY LOOSEN DUE TO UNDERSIZED PINION SHAFT SPLINES. A LOOSE PINION NUT COULD CAUSE THE REAR AXLE TO SEIZE OR CAUSE THE DRIVESHAFT TO SEPARATE RESULTING IN A LOSS OF MOTIVE POWER. EITHER SITUATION COULD CAUSE A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING." THE REAR AXLE SEIZED AND THE DRIVESHAFT SEPARATED RESULTING IN A LOSS OF MOTIVE POWER. THE ENTIRE DRIVESHAFT ACTUALLY COMPLETELY FELL OFF OF THE VEHICLE WHILE GETTING ONTO THE FREEWAY. THIS "REPAIR" OBVIOUSLY DID NOT RESOLVE THIS ISSUE.
