My husband was driving about 20mls per hrs when our truck cought fire the whole front of our truct cought fire. The front mirror and everything if distroit due to the fire .
The frame has rusted thru, the fuel tank strap has failed and the fuel tank has dropped. If this had happened while driving, it could have killed him and many others. Upon researching for information, we found recall U04/nhsta 18v-160 which stated this document replaced service bulletin TSB# 1400218 - all for this exact problem. This was a regional recall/extended warranty and was not issued for vehicles in our region. But this document does state that should any vehicle meet the criteria described (make date range, model year, and problem) that that vehicle should be covered. My fathers truck meets all 3 criteria. Upon calling FCA (Fiat, Chrysler Automobiles), who issued the document, we were told that we aren't able to be included in this issue, since we don't have a recall listed and also because the recall turned from a recall to an extended warranty that expired in 2022....
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 RAM 1500. WHILE REVERSING IN A PARKING LOT THE TAILGATE OPENED WITHOUT WARNING. ADDITIONALLY, WHILE DRIVING AT 25 MPH THE TAIL GATE OPENED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BREEDEN DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP RAM LOCATED AT (5900 HIGHWAY 71 S, FORT SMITH, AR 72908 (479) 646-4731) BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000.
THE OIL PAN ON MY 2010 DODGE RAM 1500 IS RUSTED THROUGH SO THE OIL LEAKS OUT ANY TIME THE MOTOR IS RUNNING. I HAVE HAD TO ADD AS MUCH AS 1 QUART OF MOTOR OIL AFTER DRIVING ONLY 50 MILES. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL BECAUSE IF THE OIL ALL DRAINS OUT THEN THE MOTOR WILL SEIZE UP AND THE WHOLE TRUCK BECOMES GARBAGE! IT FEELS LIKE IT WAS MADE OF VERY THIN/CHEAP METAL BECAUSE WHEN I TIGHTEN THE OIL DRAIN PLUG, THE WHOLE END OF THE OIL PAN FLEXES UNDER VERY LITTLE TORQUE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 RAM 1500. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO PERKINS MOTORS (1205 MOTOR CITY DR., COLORADO SPRINGS, CO 80905, 855-832-3989) FOR ROUTINE SERVICE. THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE TIRE ROTATION COULD NOT BE PERFORMED BECAUSE TWO OF THE TIRES WERE OF DIFFERENT BRANDS; THEREFORE, THE TREAD DEPTHS WERE UNEVEN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE DEALER THAT THE TIRES HAD TO HAVE THE SAME TREAD DEPTH IN ORDER TO BE ROTATED. THE CONTACT ASKED FOR THE INFORMATION IN WRITING SINCE IT WAS NOT LISTED IN THE OWNER'S SERVICE MANUAL. THE TECHNICIAN REPLIED THAT IT WAS PROPRIETARY INFORMATION AND COULD NOT BE MADE PUBLIC. THE TIRES WERE NOT ROTATED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 131,609.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 RAM 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WATER DRAINED INTO THE STORAGE POCKETS OF THE REAR SEATS IN THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT CALLED GOLLING CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM AT 248-334-3600 (2405 S TELEGRAPH RD, BLOOMFIELD HILLS, MI 48302) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY; THEREFORE, NOTHING COULD BE DONE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 96,000. *TT UPDATED 8/30/18*JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 RAM 1500. UPON INSPECTING UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED PREMATURE RUST, CORROSION, AND HOLES ASSOCIATED WITH THE FRAME FROM THE FRONT TO THE REAR. THE FAILURE PROGRESSED TO THE POINT THAT IT COULD AFFECT COMPONENTS ATTACHED TO THE FRAME PERTAINING TO THE FUEL TANK. THE DEALER (BUTTON CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM, 1220 E BLVD ST, KOKOMO, IN 46902, (765) 360-4063) WAS ABLE TO VERIFY THAT THE MANUFACTURER WOULD PROVIDE A SOLUTION; HOWEVER, THE PART WAS ON A NATIONAL BACKORDER. THE DEALER DID NOT HAVE A DATE OR TIME FRAME FOR WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE FROM THE MANUFACTURER. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT LATER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF AN UNKNOWN MANUFACTURER RECALL FOR THE FUEL SYSTEM CONCERNING THE FUEL TANK AND RAILINGS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE REMAINED PARKED DUE TO THE FAILURE AND THERE WAS NO SPECIFIED...
THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS HAVE SHEERED OFF JUST LIKE THEY DO ON MOST 5.7 HEMI RAMS. ALSO, THE BLEND DOOR ACTUATORS/BLEND DOOR ARE BROKEN JUST LIKE IN LOTS OF OTHER RAMS/CHRYSLER VEHICLES.
2/25 I DISCOVERED THE FRAME CROSSMEMBER WHERE ONE OF THE TWO STRAPS WHICH HOLD UP THE FUEL TANK RUSTED AWAY TO THE POINT THAT THE STRAP HAS FALLEN OUT OF THE FRAME. I CONTACTED RAM CUSTOMER CARE VIA ONLINE CHAT ASKING FOR A REPAIR ESTIMATE, IF THEY COULD VERIFY THAT THE PART NUMBER I HAVE LOCATED CAN ACTUALLY RECTIFY THE SITUATION, IF THEY COULD VERIFY IF THE TSB I'VE LOCATED IS RELATED TO THIS ISSUE, AND IF THEY COULD ADVISE WHICH DEALER CLOSE TO ME HAS AN ON-SITE BODY SHOP TO PERFORM THE REPAIR AND IF THEY'RE HIGHLY RATED BY FCA, AND THEIR ONLY RESPONSE WAS TO ADVISE THEY CAN SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT FOR ME AND PROVIDE THE NUMBER FOR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE, WHICH THEY WERE UNWILLING TO COVER TRANSPORTATION COSTS. THE ATTACHED FILES SHOW THE STRAP ITSELF WHICH IS INTACT, THE PORTION OF THE FRAME WHICH THE STRAP PULLED OUT...
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 RAM 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 80 MPH, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE ALONG WITH AN ABNORMAL NOISE. THE ESP WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT REDUCED THE SPEED AND PROCEEDED TO A REST STOP. WHILE INSPECTING THE VEHICLE IT WAS NOTICED THAT THE FRONT STRAP THAT HOLDS THE FUEL TANK WAS HANGING AND FRACTURED DUE TO CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THELEN AUTO GROUP JEEP/CHRYSLER DEALER AT BAY CITY, MICHIGAN AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. ROCKER PANELS ARE RUSTING FROM THE INSIDE OUT. CAUSING LARGE HOLES TO FORM. WHILE IN PARK, ROLLED THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW DOWN HEARD A METAL CLANK AND THE WINDOW WOULD NO LONGER GO UP OR DOWN, AS THE WINDOW REGULATOR FELL APART. WHILE DRIVING ON A COUNTRY ROAD, I NOTICED SLIGHT DIFFICULTY IN SHIFTING. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. UPON HAVING THE CODE READ, THE TRANSMISSION SELENOID IS STUCK OPEN. TIE ROD ENDS ARE LOOSENING AS WELL. SO MANY ISSUES ON A 6 YEAR OLD VEHICLE
WHEN TURNING ON TO THE HIGHWAY YOU CAN NOT SEE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE METAL PART OF THE CAB BETWEEN THE PASSENGER WINDOW AND THE REAR WINDOW CREATES A BLIND SPOT. I HAVE ALMOST PULLED IN FRONT OF A VEHICLE 3-4 OR MORE TIMES. VEHICLE WAS NOT MOVING OR MAY HAVE BEEN MOVING 1 MPH. VEHICLE WAS MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN OUT OF A PARKING LOT ONTO THE HIGHWAY. BUMPERS, FRONT AND REAR BOTH EXHIBIT RUST. THERE IS SUPPOSED TO BE A "CORROSION" WARRANTY FROM DODGE, BUT THEY CLAIM THAT THIS "TYPE OF RUST" IS NOT COVERED. A BRAND NEW VEHICLE SHOULD NOT RUST FROM BEHIND THE PAINT. DODGE REFUSES TO HELP WITH THIS SITUATION. *TR
THE REAR BACK UP SENSORS STARTS TO WORK VERY LATE. WHEN I PUT MY TRUCK IN REVERSE (LEAVING MY CHILD AT SCHOOL) I WENT ABOUT 10FT WHEN I HIT A LIGHTNING POLE IT START TO WORK WHEN THE POLE WAS ABOUT 1 FT AND I CANT BRAKE. THANK GOD THE RESULT MY CHROME BUMPER WAS DAMAGED I THOUGHT IT WAS A CHILD. RECENTLY I PUT THE TRUCK ENTERING IN REVERSE TO MY GARAGE AND THE WALL WAS ABOUT 1 FT AND THE SENSOR INDICATES 3 FT. ON MARCH 22, 2014 MY WIFE STEPPED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE NERF BAR TO ENTER THE TRUCK. BEFORE SHE COULD ENTER THE NERF BAR PULLED COMPLETELY OUT OF THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE AND FELL TO THE GROUND. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE TRUCK TO A DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND POSSIBLE REPAIR. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE FACTORY WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR UNLESS THERE WAS RUST OR CORROSION ON THE BODY. I CALLED CHRYSLER AND THE REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME THE SAME THING. I TRIED TO FILE WITH MY INSURANCE, BUT THEY REFUSED COVERAGE BECAUSE IT WAS A FACTORY DEFECT. I WAS ABLE TO FIND A SHOP TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. THEY HAD TO SPECIAL ORDER SIX REINFORCED PLATES WITH RIVNUTS TO REPAIR BOTH SIDES BECAUSE THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS PULLING OUT OF THE METAL AS WELL. THE TOTAL COST CAME TO $519.83. THE SHOP SAID THIS WAS A DODGE RAM...
I HAVE RAIL DUST ALL OVER MY PAINT. FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DON'T KNOW WHAT THIS IS IT IS SMALL FLAKES OF STEEL THAT COME UP OFF OF THE RAILWAY WHEN A TRAIN HITS ITS BRAKES. BECAUSE THESE VEHICLES ARE TRANSPORTED VIA RAILROADS THEY ALL WILL HAVE THIS PROBLEM. THE TRAIN HITS ITS BRAKES AND THE SMALL FLAKES OF STEEL ARE SO HOT THAT THEY EMBED IN THE PAINT. YOU CAN REMOVE SOME OF THIS RUST BY USING A CLAY BAR BUT YOU WILL NEVER GET IT ALL REMOVED. I OWNED A 2008 RAM THAT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. IT IS SURFACE RUST AND LOOKS HORRIBLE. I ALSO HAVE RUST ON ALL OF MY CHROME PARTS AS WELL. THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM FOR A TRUCK THAT IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD. TO HAVE RUST ALL OVER THE TRUCK IS RIDICULOUS. AFTER HAND WASHING MY TRUCK, I NOTICES SIGNIFICANT DEFECT IN THE CHROME PARTS ON THE TRUCK. MOST OF THE CHROME IS COVERED IN CORROSION AND DISCOLORATION. THIS PROBLEM WAS FIRST NOTED WHEN THE TRUCK WAS ONE YEAR OLD BUT WAS VERY MINOR. THE DEFECTS HAVE SPREAD AND BECOME A MAJOR ISSUE ON THE BUMPERS, WHEELS, STEPS, AND TRIM. I WENT TO THE DEALER AND MET WITH THE REGIONAL CHRYSLER REP WHO INFORMED ME THAT THIS WOULD NOT BE COVERED. THEY TOOK THE STANCE THAT THE DAMAGE WAS DUE TO SOMETHING PICKED UP ON THE ROAD. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE TRUCK AND HAVE DRIVEN NOTHING BUT HIGHWAYS AND CITY STREETS. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND WAS INFORMED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER DEALER WHICH TOOK PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE DAMAGE. THE DEALER SUBMITTED THESE PHOTOS TO CHRYSLER. CHRYSLER DENIED MY CLAIM UNDER WARRANTY FOR THE RUST ON THE FRONT BUMPER. CHRYSLER STATED THAT IT HAD BEEN ROCK CHIPS THAT CAUSED THE DAMAGE. WHAT SEEMS ODD ABOUT THE CHIPS IS THAT I HAVE NORMAL FINISH AND RUST SPOTS. THERE ARE NO CHIPS WITH JUST PRIMER LEFT WHICH YOU MIGHT HAVE WHEN HAVING ROCK CHIPS.
