THE VEHICLE HAS AN OIL LEAKAGE THAT DESTROY THE ENGINE. THE DEALER DOES NOT FEEL ITS THEIR RESPONSIBILITY. HOWEVER BUYING A NEW CAR I FEEL IT SHOULD LAST MORE THAN 5YRS. *TR
MY CAR BEGAN SHUTTERING BAD ENOUGH THAT I WAS AFRAID THAT IT WAS GOING TO STALL OR THAT I WOULD GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. THANKFULLY, I DIDN'T I FOUND OUT THAT A FAULTY RADIATOR LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION. APPARENTLY, THIS IS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM. I AM BEING TOLD BY NISSAN THAT IT WILL COST $7,000 TO REPAIR/REPLACE THE RADIATOR, HOSES, TRANSMISSION ETC. MY MILEAGE IS JUST OVER 106,000 MILES SO, LIKE EVERYONE ELSE, I WILL GET NO HELP FROM NISSAN IN MAKING THESE REPAIRS. I CAN'T AFFORD TO FIX IT AT THIS TIME SO IT WILL HAVE TO SIT AND WAIT WHILE I WILL PRAY THAT THERE IS A RECALL SOON. *TR

I PARK THE CAR AND WHEN I CAME BACK COULDN'T START. THOUGHT IT WAS A BATTERY PROBLEM. TRIED JUMP START WITH MY OTHER CAR, NO LUCK. LEFT IN THE PARKING LOT FOR A FEW DAYS. SO TOWED THE CAR TO DARCARS NISSAN AND THEY TOLD ME NEED TO REPLACE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION. THEY SAID WILL COST $4700?.SO I STARTED RESEARCHING AND FOUND OUT THAT NISSAN XTERRA 2005-2007 AND EVEN NEW MODELS HAD RADIATION FLUID LEAK INTO TRANSMISSION. SO HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW IF I HAVE HARNESS GROUNDING PROBLEMS OR ?RADIATION FLUID LEAK INTO TRANSMISSION? DANG. I NOTICED A VIBRATION, LIKE YOU WERE DRIVING ON THE RUMBLE STRIP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BETWEEN 40 AND 50 MPH, AT AROUND 2000 RPM AND THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SWITCH INTO OVERDRIVE. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE SERVICE TECH DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM, COOLER SYSTEM FAILURE, IN ABOUT 5 MINUTES AFTER TAKING ONE LOOK AT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND COOLANT. THE COOLER HAD FAILED LEAKING COOLANT INTO THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND VICE VERSA. THEY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION AND COOLER ASSEMBLY. I HAD JUST UNDER 97,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND HAD TO PAY $3300 FOR THE REPAIRS. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN NISSAN AND HOW THEY HAVE HANDLED WHAT IS CLEARLY A PREVALENT AND KNOWN ISSUE WITH COOLER FAILURES IN CERTAIN MODELS. THE RADIATOR FLUID LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND RUINED THE TRANSMISSION AND VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY. THE CAR WILL NOT RUN AND STALLED OUT IN AN INTERSECTION. *TR

THE FIRST TIME I NOTICED SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION, THE VEHICLE WOULD MAKE A LARGE VIBRATING SOUND AT RANDOM TIMES. THIS WOULD KEEP GETTING WORSE UNTIL I HAD TO BRING IT TO A SHOP, OVERALL JUST ABOUT A WEEK. I WAS TOLD THE TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR FLUIDS WERE MIXING AND THAT I NEEDED A FLUID FLUSH A LONG WITH A NEW RADIATOR. ABOUT 6 MONTHS LATER, MY CAR JUST WOULDN'T START ONE MORNING. I TAKE IT TO THE SHOP AGAIN, HOPING IT IS JUST A MINOR FIX THIS TIME. THIS TIME THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND COMPUTER SYSTEM. LUCKILY I WASN'T DRIVING WHEN THIS HAPPENED, OTHERWISE WHO KNOWS WHAT DAMAGE IT WOULD HAVE CAUSED TO THE CAR OR TO ME. *JS

I HAVE RESEARCHED AND FOUND MANY OTHER HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE FUEL SENSOR ON 2007 XTERRA. LAST GEN WAS RECALLED AND THEY NEED TO RECALL THIS YEAR. I HAVE RAN OUT OF GAS TWICE ALREADY WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. I AM ALSO HAVING A LOUD WINING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE DUE TO A FAILED TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER. BOTH THESE ITEMS NEED TO BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEBODY GETS KILLED. *TR
FIRST NOTICED A STUTTERING WHEN DRIVING AND A CLUNKING SOUND WHEN MOVING THE SHIFTER FROM PARK TO REVERSE TO DRIVE IN FEBRUARY. ALSO EXPERIENCED NO HEAT AND OVER HEATING IN MARCH. UPON REPAIR OF THERMOSTAT, DRAINING THE RADIATOR SHOWED AN ACCUMULATION OF THICK GREY GUNK IN THE COOLANT. THERMOSTAT SEAL ITSELF WAS MELTED. HAD DEALER EVALUATE CLUNKING SOUND AND THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS INTERMIX (THE PROBLEM IDENTIFIED BY THE COOLANT) A MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN THE RADIATOR/TRANSMISSION COOLING COMPONENTS THAT ALLOWS THE COOLANT TO CONTAMINATE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID CAUSING TRANSMISSION DAMAGE. AS A RESULT OF CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT, DEALERSHIP EXPLAINED THAT MILEAGE WAS OVER THE NISSAN WARRANTY LIMIT OF 100,000 EVEN THOUGH THE PROBLEM DID NOT MANIFEST UNTIL ALMOST 120,000 MILES. RECOMMENDED FIX WAS IN STAGES - 1) REPLACE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION FLUSH $1200++ 2) IF PROBLEM IS NOT SOLVED, REPLACE TRANSMISSION $4000++ HAVE TALKED WITH NISSAN CORPORATE TO NO AVAIL....
I HAVE A 2007 NISSAN XTERRA WHICH STARTED TO "STUTTER" AND HESITATE WHEN PRESSING THE GAS. THE CAR ALMOST FELT LIKE IT WAS SHUTTING OFF WHILE ON I-4 HIGHWAY. THE SHUTS DOWN AND WONT START. I HAD THE CAR CHECKING AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A CRACK IN MY RADIATOR AND THAT THE FLUID HAD LEAKED OVER INTO THE TRANSMISSION. I HAD THE RADIATOR REPLACED, A FEW MONTHS LATER, TRANSMISSION IS STILL NOT WORKING. I TOOK THE CAR TO NISSAN, THEY TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION WHICH WOULD RUN ABOUT $5200. I CALLED THE NISSAN HEADQUARTERS AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO BECAUSE MY TRUCK WAS AT 109,000 MILES. *TR
FAILED TRANSMISSION COOLER-ENGINE JERKS AT SPEEDS 40 MPH AND HIGHER. *TR
AT 60MPH AND ALSO 40MPH THE VEHICLE VIBRATES HEAVILY AND IS SLOW TO REACT TO POWER INPUTS WITH NO WARNING SIGNS PRIOR. THIS WAS DETERMINED TO BE CAUSED BY THE KNOWN DEFECT RELATED TO THE RADIATOR / HEAT EXCHANGER, WHERE THE ENGINE COOLANT MIXES WITH THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND GETS INTO THE TRANSMISSION. THIS THEN TURNS INTO A "PINK MILKSHAKE" CONSISTENCY FLUID AND COMPLETELY RUINS THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION AND VALVE ASSEMBLY. THIS REQUIRES A COMPLETE REBUILD OR REPLACEMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. THERE IS NO WARNING SIGN AND THIS AFFECTS THESE VEHICLES AT DIFFERENT RATES. THIS CAN CAUSE CARS TO SEIZE UP UNEXPECTEDLY IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING CREATING A DANGEROUS SITUATION. I WAS TOLD TIMING CHAIN OF VEHICLE NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE CAR ONLY HAD 65,000 MILES AND THIS REPAIR IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH NISSAN THAT THEY ARE FAILING TO ADDRESS TO CONSUMERS. REPAIRS COSTING 1,500 PLUS DOLLARS FOR REPAIR OF ENGINE CHAIN. IF IGNORED, THIS COULD CAUSE AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD WHILE DRIVING AT A MODERATE SPEED. MY CARS COOLANT GAGE JUMPED STRAIGHT TO H OUT OF NOWHERE. AFTER PULLING INTO A SHELL STATION FOR ANTIFREEZE, IT WAS APPARENT WHAT HAD HAPPENED. THERE WAS SOMETHING MIXED IN WITH THE ANTIFREEZE. AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH IT APPEARS THAT NO RECALL HAS BEEN APPROVED AND I BELIEVE THERE ARE MANY OF US WONDERING WHY? MY RADIATOR WENT OUT IN THE STARBUCKS DRIVE-THRU. I HAD IT TOWED TO A SHOP & WAS TOLD IT IS A KNOWN DESIGN FLAW BY NISSAN WHERE THE FLUIDS ARE MIXING & THE ONLY THING I CAN DO NOW IS REPLACE THE RADIATOR & "HOPE" THE FLUIDS DID NOT GO INTO THE TRANSMISSION. MY 07 NISSAN XTERRA HAS BEEN OUT OF COMMISSION FOR 2 MONTHS NOW AND AFTER MANY PHONE CALLS AND EMAILS NISSAN STILL WILL NOT OWN UP TO THEIR MISTAKE. THEIR FAULTY RADIATOR DESIGN HAS RUINED BOTH MY RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION. THE SERVICE CENTER WAS WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND YET NEVER MENTIONED IT TO ME THE NUMEROUS TIMES I BROUGHT MY CAR IN TO BE SERVICED BY THEM. IT WASN'T UNTIL I WAS 5,000 MILES OVER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND HAD AN ISSUE THAT IT WAS MADE KNOWN THAT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE. ALSO, THEY CLAIMED THAT I WAS MAILED OUT A NOTICE ABOUT THE ISSUE LAST DECEMBER OF 2012, WHICH I NEVER RECEIVED, BUT CLAIM THAT THEY DID WHAT WAS REQUIRED OF THEM BY MAILING THE NOTICE OUT. TOOK THE TRUCK TO LOCAL NISSAN DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AS I TOOK OUT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WITH OLYMPICARE. THE SERVICE ADJUSTER WAS AWARE THAT '05-'09, EVEN '10 MODELS HAVE A DEFECT THAT ALLOWS RADIATOR FLUID TO MIX WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID, CREATING DEGRADATION OF TRANSMISSION AND COOLING SYSTEM. AFTER-MARKET WARRANTY IS TRYING TO DIS-ALLOW CLAIM, CITING NISSAN'S KNOWLEDGE OF THIS DESIGN FLAW. *TR

ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO MY CAR WOULD NOT REVERSE AND WENT INTO NEUTRAL WHEN I WAS TRYING TO BACK OUT OF A PARKING SPOT. I TOOK MY CAR TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP/SERVICE CENTER AND THE PERSON KNEW EXACTLY WHAT WAS WRONG WITH MY CAR. APPARENTLY IT IS VERY COMMON FOR 2005-2010 NISSAN VEHICLES TO HAVE A "FAULTY ENGINE DESIGN" THE SERVICE MAN SAID. I PARTICIPATED IN THE NISSAN CAMPAIGN TO REPLACE A RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION, DUE TO A DEFECTIVE ASSEMBLY THAT CAUSED TRAN FAILURE. DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE TWO MAIN PARTS UNDER THE CAMPAIGN. I RECEIVED MY VEHICLE, AND ONLY HAD IT FOR 1 1/2 DAYS BEFORE ANOTHER ISSUE RELATED TO THE RADIATOR / COOLING SYSTEM WAS EXPERIENCED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THE FAILURE WAS LOCATED AT THE RADIATOR COOLER UNIT, WHICH WAS DETERMINED TO BE FRACTURED AND CAUSING COOLANT TO PENETRATE THE TRANSMISSION. AS A RESULT, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 71,000.

NISSAN HAS CONFIRMED THE ERROR CODE AND REFUSES TO REPAIR/REPLACE THE FUEL SENDING UNIT BECAUSE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY DESPITE PREVIOUS RECALLS ON OTHER YEAR MODELS FOR THE SAME ISSUE. *TR

I WAS ALSO TOLD THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE FOR NISSAN SO THEY WOULD COVER PART OF THE REPAIR AND I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR $2500 OF THE REPAIR SINCE I WAS 1300 MILES OVER THE LIMIT. IT HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH THE PROBLEM OF THE TRANSMISSION FLUID COOLER LOCATED IN THE RADIATOR ASSEMBLY THAT ALLOWED COOLANT TO MIX WITH AND CONTAMINATE THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID, RESULTING IN DAMAGED INTERNAL TRANSMISSION COMPONENTS AND A DAMAGED INTERNAL TRANSMISSION COMPUTER. I HAD NO WARNING SIGNS LEADING UP TO OR JUST PRIOR TO THE FAILURES. WHAT IS NISSAN GOING TO DO ABOUT THIS???? RECALL ?? *TR
LAST MONTH THE CAR SEEMED TO START SLIPPING GEARS WHEN I GOT UP TO AROUND 40 MILES PER HOUR. IT WAS SPORADIC AND ONCE I LET ME FOOT OFF THE GAS FOR A SECOND IT SEEMED TO CLEAR AND BE OK. I STARTED TO SEE A SLOW LEAK OF WHAT I THOUGHT WAS OIL IN THE GARAGE WHERE I PARKED THE YESTERDAY. WHEN I MENTIONED THE LEAK TO A BUDDY AND ALSO TOLD HIM THAT MY HEATER WAS NOT WORKING, HE SAID WE SHOULD CHECK THE COOLANT IN THE RADIATOR. WHEN WE OPENED THE RADIATOR CAP, THERE WAS A SLIMY BROWNISH SLUDGE ALL OVER THE BOTTOM OF THE CAP. THAT AFTERNOON, I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE MECHANIC ACROSS THE STREET AND HE SAID THAT I HAD A RADIATOR FAILURE OF SOME THAT HAS CAUSED RADIATOR FLUID TO GET INTO THE TRANSMISSION. MY 2007 XTERRA WITH 62K MILES BEGAN MAKING A WHINING NOISE WHEN ACCELERATING . NOT SURE WHAT IT WAS I TOOK IT TO THE NISSAN DEALER WHERE I GET ALL MY MAJOR SERVICES DONE .THE TECHNICIAN TOOK A LOOK AT THE PROBLEM AND WITHIN MIN NOTIFY ME IT IS THE TIMING BELT CHAIN AND GUIDES , KNOWN ISSUE FOR MY NISSAN XTERRA . GAS IN CAR WAS AT A 1/4 TANK AND SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WENT AND FILLED TANK UP AND GAS GAUGE NOT WORKING AFTER DRIVING THE CAR TWICE THE LIGHT WENT OFF AND THE GAUGE WAS WORKING 3 DAYS LATTER SAME ISSUE. I DO SEE WHERE THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE 2005, 2006, 2008 AND 2009 XTERRA FOR THE SAME ISSUE BUT THEY FAILED TO RECALL THE 2007 YEAR FOR THE SAME ISSUE. THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FIXED. *JS

AFTER 2 DAY GAUGE FOR FUEL LEVEL WORKED AND SES LIGHT WENT OFF 2 DAYS LATER SES LIGHT BACK ON AND FUEL GAUGE NOT WORKING WENT AND HAD TESTED SAID THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND HAS BEEN RECALLED ON OTHER YEARS BUT FOR WHAT EVER REASON NISSAN DID NOT RECALL THIS YEAR.
