While turning, the resistance = how heavy is steering, suddenly drop for few millisecond which causes unpredictable understeering , i almost hit the other car on opposite side it happens not every turn but randomly

My vehicle was subject to a 2024 recall for what has been described as "sticky steering." The recall repair was completed by Mazda in April, 2024, however the problem persists. The repair was completed before I purchased the vehicle. When I turn my vehicle to the left or right my steering feels heavy and the steering wheel feels like it is sticky when turning. This does not happen every time I turn my car but it does occur frequently. Speed does not seem to make a difference; I have the problem turning in a parking lot at low speeds or on a highway or road at higher speeds. The date that I provided is the date of the most recent event.

I have a 24 CX-90 that is experiencing the steering issue (Recall 24V022) where the steering effort feels like it binds up and locks during slow to medium speed turns, primarily when turning left. No warnings, no codes thrown.

To Whom It May Concern, I am submitting this complaint to report serious and ongoing safety concerns regarding my Mazda CX-90. I believe this vehicle presents a significant safety risk to occupants and other drivers on the road. Since the date of purchase, this vehicle has been subject to numerous recalls, repeated software updates, and multiple mechanical issues. The number of recalls alone raises concern about the safety and reliability of this model. In addition, the vehicle has been in service many times, and I have frequently been provided a loaner vehicle due to unresolved problems. On the day of purchase, the vehicle suffered a mechanical failure and had to be towed. While driving in my neighborhood with my children inside, the vehicle suddenly stopped moving and became stuck in reverse. A brand-new vehicle should not experience this type of failure. More recently, I experienced a dangerous steering event on...

All of a sudden I have experienced sticky steering every time I turn the wheel it does not come back by itself, so need some effort to push it back. Mazda dealership service inspected the car and informed that they already put the order for the part, but it will take around 3 months to get it from mazda. I am not thinking to wait 3 months to get the car repaired. It is basically a new car with 25k miles and costed around $ 60K. I don't understand why they don't have available parts if they know about the issue since the beginning.
#11716976 |
The steering wheel has been sticking when turned even in the slightest. It is so dangerous because I have to over correct which causes the car to jerk. I took it to the dealership and was informed that this is a known problem but there is no recall from Mazda. They said it’s going to cost me $4500 to replace the steering rack and gear motor. It’s a 2 year old car I shouldn’t be having these kind of major repairs. I get regular maintenance and always take it in for any recalls.

Sticky Steering. noise in front left wheel when doing a right turn on slow speeds. steering wheel stays in place when doing a full right turn.
#11716548 |
The steering wheel sticks when driving on highway and going around an extended turn or bend on the highway.
#11715953 |
When I’m going around the corner, the steering feels sort of sticky and either won’t stay in one place or feels a little bit stuck in one place. It sometimes feels like someone else is making micro adjustments to the steering as I’m holding the steering wheel. This has been happening for about the last 10,000 miles on the vehicle.
#11715983 |
Steering wheel still sticks, even after multiple recalls and replacement of steering rack.
#11715993 |
The steering wheel keeps sticking when turning left or right. It does not matter what speed you are going. I almost hit a car due to this. The previous steering recall has been performed without fixing the issue. I took the car to Mazda in Corpus Christi, TX and they claim they can not find an issue. I can repeat the issue l even parked.

Reporting multiple safety-related defects on my 2024 Mazda CX-90. Steering system: At approximately 5,000 miles, the vehicle developed abnormal steering behavior, including inconsistent steering response and abnormal feel during normal driving and turning. The condition affected my ability to steer the vehicle predictably and raised safety concerns, particularly during low-speed turns, parking maneuvers, and city driving. The issue was confirmed by the dealer and required replacement of the steering rack, a major steering component. The vehicle remains available for inspection upon request. Hybrid system: At approximately 22,000 miles, the vehicle experienced a hybrid system malfunction that required the vehicle to be taken out of service for an extended period. The malfunction affected drivability and reliability and required dealer diagnosis and repair. The vehicle was inspected and repaired by an authorized Mazda dealer. Braking system: The vehicle has experienced ongoing abnormal brake squeaking during normal driving and low-speed braking. While braking...

Repeated episodes of “sticky” steering. Requires a lot of effort or force to move the wheel. Highly problematic in turns. Have had to yank the wheel so hard to straighten it, it caused the entire car swerve. Very dangerous. After research, appears this is a wide spread issue with this particular vehicle.

Steering wheel sticks when turning at a high rate of speed, on freeways ect.
#11715601 |
Steering is sticky/requires extra effort to center when turning left
#11715655 |
The steering wheel sticks especially when making long turns. It jutters and scares the driver. Some times it holds in place and you have to jerk it back to straight.
#11715673 |
Steering wheel gets "sticky" and "clunky" when turning the wheel while at speed. Anytime I turn a corner or accelerate into a turn the steering wheel feels like it locks up and clicks back to center - almost like negative feedback.
#11715689 |
When driving the vehicle and going into a sweeping turn on the road at highway speeds, mostly while turning into a left sweeping turn, the steering wheel will "jerk", and on a few occasions felt as if it was "stuck" and then would "snap" loose and allow the wheel to come back to center when coming out of the turn. I mentioned it to the dealer as there seems to be a growing number of people experiencing the same issues with the Mazda CX-90's in the 2024 year, but they said they couldn't reproduce it, but it happened to me again just driving away from the dealership. I tried to write it off as it was just my imagination, but I they also only had the vehicle for 15 minutes before they reported to me that they could not reproduce. This is happening after the initial recall for the steering...

When traveling down a road normally, the steering becomes suddenly harder to manipulate. It has a sticky feel when trying to turn normally. This has caused occasions where the car veers out of lane temporarily due to not responding to steering inputs normally.
#11714909 |
Steering is rough and can grab or stick when turning the wheel. Afraid it might lock up while driving. The problem has been confirmed by the Mazda dealership, and the dealer I bought it from. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone else. No warning lamps, I noticed the problem shortly after I bought it.
#11715120 |
Steering feels sticky and rough when making minor turns. Sometimes there is a jerk sensation as well. Has been persistent and seems to not go away. All recalls for this vehicle have been addressed so I’m not sure what the issue is.
#11714656 |
Steering chatter when turning and steering stiffens at highway speed making it hard to keep vehicle straight and follow the lanes in the road.
#11714658 |
I can only best describe it as there were choppy and dead spots in my steering. Coming out of a turn, it feels like a brief loss of power steering which in a turn at highway speeds caused me to reach as I was losing control of the vehicle. Thankfully, no accident caused. I took to Mazda dealership and they confirmed my findings which included me doing a ride along with one of their chief mechanics. They kept the vehicle and later confirmed steering rack was bad and would have to be replaced after they consulted with Mazda corporate. Vehicle was just outside of warranty mileage and Mazda refused to fix as warranty repair. The vehicle had previously had the recall completed on the steering unit that included replacing a spring inside the worm gear. In my talks with Mazda dealership, they confirmed that steering racks were on back order...

Steering wheel is sticking to left, I thought it was lane assist but I turned it off and it stay In position having to over correct the steering wheel. I have a video since it happened multiple times now, I was able to record it during a roundabout.
#11714386 |
multiple times now the steering gets "stuck" in a curve - like an off/on ramp to the interstate. the process is not smooth and the wheel does not "return" correctly and must be forced manually. this is dangerous. i read about a failed recall the investigation is RQ26002. this describes my exact symptoms and my car was privvy to the original recall prior to my purchase. we have spoke to oxmoor mazda about the incident and brought in the car, our concerns were dismissed as the vehicle needing new tires - we purchased the tires but the problem still exists.

In 2024 I was experiencing heavier-than-normal effort required to return wheels from a left turn to centerline, with a “notchy” or sticking feel. I took the vehicle to my Mazda dealer, where they performed the recall of new spring and re-greasing the steering rack. In the fall of 2025, I was again experiencing the same issue, as was confirmed by the dealer. The dealer re-greased the steering rack, and the issue was resolved at that time. However I am now again experiencing the same issue - occasional increased effort with a sticky feel when turning wheels from left back to center.

I am writing regarding a steering safety concern with my 2024 Mazda CX-90 3.3T S Premium Plus. I am experiencing intermittent steering stiffness while driving, which causes the vehicle to wander and sway within its lane and requires constant steering correction. The steering wheel resists smooth input and the vehicle does not track straight. This behavior occurs with Lane Keep Assist fully turned OFF and is independent of any driver assistance features. Behavior creates a safety risk due to a loss of predictable steering control. The dealership attributes this to lane keep assist, but the issue persists independently of any driver assistance features. Behavior occurs at slow and faster rates of speed and sways in either direction.

While driving at highway speeds (approximately 50–55 mph) on a highly curving road, the steering intermittently became difficult to control. The steering wheel felt locked or stuck in a turned position and required excessive force to return to center. This condition occurred repeatedly over a 14-mile stretch of curvy highway and resulted in a partial loss of steering control, nearly causing collisions with another vehicle on multiple occasions. This incident occurred at approximately 16,900 miles. Although this defect has occurred multiple times since the vehicle was purchased, this was the most severe occurrence and posed a significant and imminent safety risk. The condition was reproduced and confirmed by an authorized dealer, who advised that replacement of the steering rack is required. At no time did any warning lights or messages appear to alert the driver to this dangerous condition. This issue represents a serious safety defect and warrants investigation.

The steering tramlines, the steering pulls the car when the road surface is uneven so you have to hold on to the steering wheel pretty tight at all times as it could pull you into a dangerous position at any time.

I am experiencing a steering defect in my vehicle that closely mirrors the condition described in Recall No. 6524A, although my specific vehicle VIN is not currently included in the recall. While driving, particularly at highway speeds, the steering wheel intermittently becomes difficult to turn and appears to “stick.” During one incident, I was traveling approximately 55 mph on the freeway while navigating a right-hand curve when the steering wheel suddenly became resistant and did not move smoothly in the direction of the turn. The steering felt as though it momentarily bound or stuck while I was actively turning to the right, requiring increased force to maintain control of the vehicle. In addition to this event, I have repeatedly noticed resistance during right-hand turns, even at lower speeds. The resistance does not feel normal or smooth and gives the sensation that the steering mechanism is catching or binding. This issue...

After having stopped at red light, we made a left turn. I immediately felt a jerking sensation as I turned the wheel both left and right. I moved to a parking lot as I feared loosing steering function altogether, and felt the same jerking while parked and turning my wheel right and left. As my home was only a couple of blocks away, I managed to get my vehilcle home. Again, I can only describe the steering issue as a jerking sensation, or notchy sensation, while turning the steering wheel right or left. Dealership duplicated issue and indicated they contacted Mazda and are awaiting a back-ordered part that is a steering gear (my simple understanding). This event occurred months after Mazda replaced recalled steering issue (6524A)

I am reporting a serious steering safety issue. I was told a steering recall had already been fixed before purchase. About four months later, the steering wheel began locking or strongly resisting movement while driving on curvy roads at speeds over 50 mph. When this happens, the wheel does not return to center and requires force to correct, creating a loss of steering control. I took the vehicle to Passport Mazda in Maryland on January 2, 2026. The dealer stated the entire steering wheel panel needs replacement and the part is backordered until March 2026. This is a dangerous defect in a recently recalled system and needs investigation.

Steering wheel sticks to left and stiffens more frequently after recall 6524A.
#11705995 |
Steering wheel gets stuck when turning left on speed 35-50 or over
#11701659 |
Steering "locks up" and the steering wheel is hard to turn back to center when making a left turn. When the vehicle was new and under warrant, I complained to Mazda-USA on 11/21/23 and took it to the dealer and the steering was better afterwards. I assumed they applied grease to something which was Mazda's fix for many other vehicle issues. Now the steering locking issue has returned again and the vehicle is no longer under warranty. I don't feel I should have to pay thousands of dollars to fix their manufacturing defect which came with the new vehicle.

There is a potential safety risk with the 2024 Mazda CX-90 power steering/lane keep assist. When traveling at moderate speeds steering left into a turn the vehicle jerks to the right. I do not believe this is a direct problem with the lane keep assist as the problem only occurs when in the center of the travel lane and not while on the edge of the road. Lane keep assist works as intended when on the edge of the road or on the center stripped line as I feel a gentle assist again as intended. The hard pulling to the right problem only occurs when steering left into a turn. There are no warning lights on the instrument cluster. The authorized dealer has not been able to reproduce the issue. The issue has been ongoing for at least the past six months.

Steering wheel is sticking at highway speeds. When going around a curve at highway speeds, steering becomes stuck, requiring additional effort to turn and keep vehicle centered in lane. Steering wheel has to be 'broken loose' by pulling it to the direction opposite of the curve. This results in the vehicle bouncing around lanes which is unsafe. The vehicle is currently at the dealer being inspected. No warnings were present.
#11697985 |
The steering is notchy during turns when the steering wheel is off center, making fine turning adjustments very difficult especially during turns. If any bumps are encountered during a turn or any turning adjustments need to be made, the steering will catch and release and move in a different direction than expected. It requires constant adjustment but the adjustments are not smooth, there is a binding/notchy feeling. When the car is stationary, the it is clearly observed by turning the wheel slowly and feeling the vibrations or observing the continuous jumps in steering wheel. I took the car into the dealer for repair under warranty and they said the steering wheel turns side to side so it's not a problem and refused to further diagnose or make any repairs. I told them it was unsafe to drive the car as is and they said there was nothing wrong with the...

Steering wheel is very still. I checked online and noticed there is a recall for this problem. I am requesting a recall on my vehicle so that the problem can be resolved.
#11694018 |
The steering rack catastrophically failed at highway speeds with no warning or signals from from the car that anything was wrong. I was driving on a curvy highway at 60mph when the steering started to feel a bit weird when turning to the left. At first it felt like irregularities in the road surface or something of that nature. A few moments later, it was clear that something was completely broken as the car would turn to the right completely normally, but had a wildly different amount of feeling and effort required to turn left at highway speeds. When taking a left curve at highway speeds, the steering inconsistently switched from taking several times more effort to turn the wheel (feeling as if components were grinding together) to being lighter than normal, oscillating back and forth between these feelings randomly. I distinctly remember that recall 6524A and the associated stop...

Can not control steering. Almost ran off the road merging onto the interstate because the steering wheel got stuck.
#11685774 |
Steering wheel is "notchy" when turning, mostly to the left. Worse at higher speeds, like exiting or entering the freeway. It often feels like it may get stuck and I have to jerk it to the right a bit to get it unstuck.

"The steering wheel intermittently sticks and feels resistant when switching lanes or making turns, especially at highway speeds. It does not return smoothly to center, making it feel unsafe and unpredictable. I brought the vehicle to the Mazda dealership, but they stated they 'cannot replicate the issue' and refused to perform any repairs. This is a safety concern because the sticky steering can make it difficult to control the vehicle and could potentially lead to a crash. There are no warning lights or error messages displayed when this occurs. The issue happens intermittently, making it hard to demonstrate on demand, but it is recurring and worsening. Since this is a brand-new 2024 Mazda CX-90, I believe this could indicate a defect in the electric power steering system or related components."

The steering column has a stuck/ stickiness to it specifically when turning left. It’s extremely concerning because unless you’re jerking the wheel back the other direction immediately, it’ll stay in place allowing the vehicle to continue turning

The contact owns a 2024 Mazda CX-90. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed low speeds and making a turn, the steering wheel jerked and vibrated, causing the vehicle to become difficult to maneuver. The contact stated that the steering wheel was pulling while veering to the right or to the left. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The contact stated that the failure persisted while driving. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.

I've noticed ever since the car was new that it had a poor sense of straight ahead especially at freeway speeds. When the lane departure chime was active it would sound constantly{has since been turned off but lighted markers in gauge cluster still fire all the time}. When I take my attention off road for a second to adjust fan speed or temp, the car is close to going into the other lane. Lots of concentration necessary. I've mentioned this to one dealer who checked and adjusted alignment with no improvement and another dealer said they've had other owners of Mazda CX-90's voice the same complaint. There's also a long term test in Motor Trend on a CX-90 that complained about the same issue. I feel there is something wrong here that could be a potential safety problem.

Steering sticks while driving. Then, all of a sudden releases, and this causes a jerk in the steering and vehicle movement in the direction of steering. Vehicle recall 6524A/Jan 18, 2024 for "increase in steering effort" was completed in April 2024. This issue is very apparent at interstate highway cruising speeds to just maintain staying in traffic lane. Worried that steering may continue sticking and not be able to maneuver vehicle to drive safely avoid an accident. Turned off the vehicle lane assist feature to diagnose the issue, the issue still exists with the lane assist feature turned off.

The contact leased a 2024 Mazda CX-90. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH in the far left lane, the vehicle jerked and the steering wheel seized, causing the contact to lose control of the vehicle. It was unknown whether warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle veered to the right independently, spun three times, crashed into the guard rail and came to a stop while facing oncoming traffic. The front driver's side airbag and an unknown air bag deployed. There were unknown warning lights illuminated after the crash. The emergency units arrived at the scene, but the contact refused to be examined. The contact sustained a minor hand burn from the air bag deployment but did not seek medical assistance. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a collision center, where it was totaled. The insurance company was not contacted. An unknown dealer...

My vehicle had a previous recall done concerning the steering - recall #24V022000 of 2024-01-17. That corrected a problem I was having with a 'notchy' feeling in the steering when going down a relatively straight road. The problem I am having now with the steering is different and IMO is more dangerous of an issue. The problem is a notchy and "locked" feeling when the steering wheel is turned and kept at a required angle when going around a constant radius bend in the road. The specific problem is that when the steering wheel is required to be turned back to the center position after the road straightens, the wheel feels like it is almost locked in the turned position and sometimes returning the wheel to the center position results in an overcorrection which may cause the vehicle to cross over the centerline of the road and into the oncoming...

While driving (less than 2000 miles on the OD) in our 2024 cx90 SE the vehicle started to shift out of timing and everything shut off at once. The vehicle lost all power and all parts shut down. The vehicle would start back up and power steering went out. Our driving speed was at 30mph so it was extremely scary during rush hour traffic. We had to have it towed to the dealership, we're not sure what the issue will be.
