2013 KIA SORENTO Electrical System Problems

The contact owns a 2013 Kia Sorento. While the contact's granddaughter was attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The contact stated that a special device was previously installed in the vehicle because of a legal matter. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who installed the device, and the vehicle was inspected. The contact was informed that the device did not cause the failure. In addition, the cause of the failure could not be determined. The contact was advised to contact the dealer for assistance. The contact had received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V652000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 215,000.

Back up camera on Kia Sorento screens go black out of nowhere. After research online I have seen that this is a very common problem with Kia vehicles, and they haven't issued a recall on them. It isn't safe to be operating without one of the vehicles safety features because the vehicle owner doesn't want to pay to repair something they didn't damage.

This vehicle has a oil consumption problem that causes engine damage and Kia will not take responsibility for especially after the car being maintained. On top of it even with substantial evidence that this was a manufacturing defect that Kia is refusing to take accountability for and completely dismisses any claims or complaints and not even bothered to speak with you unless the car has warranty which is absurd because this was a again a manufacturing defect of the vehicle not from not sustaining the vehicle from the driver that owns it. The entire front of the hood, the side bar of the windshield on both the passenger and driver sides, and the roof along the windshield are flaking off manufacturers paint in large sheets. The engine has been stalling while driving. The rpm gauge isn't moving it is at 0. Plus the radio and plug ins randomly shut off and on all the time. They don't stay on.

Good Morning...... I'm the owner of a 2013 Kia Sorrento that is subject to the above safety recall. This has become known as the 'PARK OUTSIDE RECALL' because of the supposed fire danger. I was first notified about this issue my mail on [XXX]. To date, NO remedy has been provided. My local Kia dealer here in Syracuse says they have no information, while Kia USA in California says "we're working on it." If we can collect rocks from an asteroid and return them to earth, it seems like the development of a corrective part could be accomplished in something less than 7 or 8 months (or longer if you use the Sept 25 date in the original recall). Received the recall notice from Kia back in November 2023 and have contacted them several times about fixing the problem. On February 8, 2024 took the car in to our local Kia dealer, Overturf, and had a recall inspection performed due to a burnt rubber/plastic smell when driving the car. The recall part said that the car caught on fire and we were concerned that this was the reason for the smell. The service department said they were unable to duplicate the smell, but that our car was one of the ones impacted by the recall. Said no fix for the problem yet so to park the car. This is our main means of transportation. They offered no rental or a loaner car.

I drove with my family south bound on i95 and between exit 6-5 the engine light came on out of no where and the gas peddle and brake stopped working. My luck was that I was on the right lane and I pulled over to shoulder of the highway till the car stopped. after 5-10 min I turned the car on and I was able to crawl to exit 5 ramp driving barely 10-15mph. On February 1, 2024, I was driving home from work. I had been driving for about 20 minutes and out of nowhere almost every dashboard light indicator that exists came on. Initially, it was the ABS, Tire Pressure, and Stability Control. We were told by our auto mechanic that this vehicle needed a new electrical control module. The part has been on back-order with the local KIA dealership for a couple of months. My daughter was driving the car recently when all of the lights went out, and the car would only drive forward approximately 5 miles per hour. The car began to shudder and I had my daughter pull into the nearest parking lot and park the car. The engine shut off as she entered the parking lot, the car could not be placed in any other gear except neutral, and there was a burning smell. Sent messages to two Jacksonville dealerships about 23V652000 and cannot get a response, had Mutiple electrical issues on vehicle, including 'all problem indicators' on dashboard going on (incl check engine and ABS). Slight burning plastic smell, at 1st thought it was the headlight wires which 'melt' at times.

I have experienced multiple electrical failures, engine stalling & fuel pump issues. One after another. I had the fuel pump sensor replaced ($900 just for one part) a few months ago. I have wires randomly corroding - headlight connector. As of 2 days ago my ignition switch and starter solenoid intermittenly fails to send voltage to the starter. Vehicle was parked at a store in accessory mode while I ran inside to grab drinks on the way to a birthday party. My children were inside and noticed smoking from the hood and got out before the vehicle was consumed by flames. Luckily the engine was not running and we were not driving/accelerating at the time of fire. I had several issues with headlight and taillights blowing, the last time the headlight harness was completely melted and had to be changed out. The fire department speculates the fire started near the battery, which would make sense considering the headlight in question was the one closest to the battery, and accessory mode was on. Hello. The gugua started turning on the lights on the panel about 7 months ago. The lights on are the engine, the brakes, the “ABS”, and other lights that cannot be explained. Those lights have never gone out and since then the gugua has turned itself off, many times it does not turn on, a battery inflated me (I had to buy a new battery), the foot brake also causes a lot of problems. When trying to stop the gugua with the foot brake, the gugua shakes, the foot brake blows like air, the pedal shakes, among others. Also the handbrake (emergency brake) does not work well, on a sloping road the gugua does not stop with the handbrake when I put it on. The gugua has electrical problems in general. Having to replace the headlight bulbs weekly. They go out without any warning until I cannot see while driving. Taillights need replacement about 30-60 days. Again without any warnings. I own a 2013 Kia Sorento LX FWD AUTO, granted I bought it USED in June 2020. But every since I've owned my vehicle I've had a problem with my Engine Light being on, the Driver Side Break light keeps going out and the USB and Cigarette Lighter keep Blowing the FUSES. OVER A PERIOD OF A MONTH ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS DURING NORMAL DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AND CITY STREETS, THE ENGINE LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING, ONLY ALLOWING ENOUGH DRIVE ABILITY AT SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED POWER AND SPEED TO PULL OVER. IN EACH OF THOSE INSTANCES, THE POWER WAS RESTORED TO NORMAL AFTER A SMALL PERIOD OF REST. AN OVERLAPPING CONDITION EXISTED DURING THAT SAME PERIOD, IN WHICH ALL POWER WAS LOST TO THE ENGINE AND POWER STEERING, AS THE ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING UNDER NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES. THERE WAS A RECALL IN 2017 FOR THE SPEED SENSOR ON THE REAR WHEELS. THE SENSORS FAILED REPEATEDLY AND KIA, ON THE RECALL JUST SPRAYED SILICONE ON THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS. THE SENSORS CONTINUED TO FAIL AND ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD CONTINUED TO STAY ON. AFTER THE SO CALLED RECALL FIX, I PAID $326.00 TWICE FOR THE LEFT REAR SENSOR, AND $326.00 FOR THE RIGHT REAR. HOWEVER, KIA IS NOT PLACING ANYTHING ON THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION TO FURTHER PREVENT THE FAILURE OF THE SENSORS. IT IS UP TO DATE ON OIL CHANGES, INSPECTIONS, FLUID AND I AM ABOUT TO REPLACE ALL BRAKES, PADS, ROTORS AND TIRES. I FEEL LIKE THIS CARE, WHICH I HAVE ONLY HAD FOR FOUR AND A HALF YEARS, IS DONE.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN I NOTICED THAT ALL MY WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD WERE COMING ON. ALL OF THEM WERE LIT UP RED AND NOT GOING OFF. ON 02/04/2020 DROVE VEHICLE FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES AND WHEN I PARKED THE VEHICLE, PUT THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTER IN PARK, TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND ATTEMPTED TO REMOVE THE KEY. THE KEY WAS STILL IN IGNITION AND COULDN'T GET KEY TO RELEASE. HAD TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, TOOK SHIFTER OUT OF PARK AND THEN PUT BACK INTO PARK, STRAIGHTENED STEERING WHEEL AND TURN OFF VEHICLE AND WAS ABLE TO REMOVE IGNITION KEY. THIS HAS HAPPENED OVER 15 OR MORE TIMES SINCE OWNING VEHICLE AND I HAVE ASKED LOCAL DEALER WHO PERFORMS ROUTINE MAINTENANCE TO CHECK FOR PROBLEM IN THE PAST AND THEY CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND AT 70 MPH I HAD SUDDEN POWER FAILURE AND THE THE ENGINE COMPLETELY DIED. AFTER ABOUT 30 MINUTES IT STARTED UP JUST LONG ENOUGH TO GO A HALF A MILE AND IT DID THE SAME THING. 10 HRS LATER IT STARTED UP AGAIN AND WE WERE ABLE TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC READING DONE WHICH SHOWED NOTHING. THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR WERE TESTED AND ARE BOTH WORKING COMPLETELY FINE. LATER ON IT RAN FINE FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AND THEN SUDDENLY DID THE SAME THING AGAIN.

THREE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON SIMULTANEOUSLY WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH. THE WARNING LIGHTS WERE THE ABS, TRACTION CONTROL, AND DOWN HILL. I TOOK IT TO PRECISION TUNE FOR A DIAGNOSIS AND WAS TOLD I NEED A PASSENGER REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR.

LIGHTING HAS WENT OUT MULTIPLE TIMES, BOTH HEADLIGHTS AND NOW TURN SIGNALS. WHEN HEADLIGHT GO OUT, IT OFTEN MELTS THE LIGHT BULB SOCKET AND BURNS WIRES. WHEN THE TURN SIGNAL WENT OUT, THE BULB BURNING OUT CAUSED THE COMPUTER TO SHORT OUT, BY DESIGN ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN. LIGHTS RANDOMLY GO OUT WITHOUT WARNING, OFTEN FLICKERING, ESPECIALLY WHEN HITTING BUMPS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 KIA SORENTO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65-70 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE LOST POWER, INCLUDING POWER STEERING, BRAKING, AND ACCELERATION. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO COAST THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED ON THE FIRST ATTEMPT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED ONCE. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.

I PURCHASED MY 2013 KIA SORENTO IN MARCH 2013...I HAVE ALWAYS KEPT UP MAINTENANCE. I STARTED HAVING ISSUES ( EXTERIOR HEADLIGHTS/TAILLIGHTS GOING OUT CONSTANTLY AND HAVING TO REPLACE, CAR STALLING/STOPPING IN TRAFFIC, ABS//TRACTION CONTROL & DOWNHILL ASSIT LIGHTS COMING ON, AIR CONDITIONER, FUEL SYSTEM). I HAVE READ MANY COMPLAINTS ONLINE UNDER NHTSA, AND IT APPEARS THAT I AM HAVING MANY OF THE SAME ISSUES AS OTHERS. MY VEHICLE IS NEARING 100,000 MILES (98,800), AND I HOPE THAT ALL THESE ISSUES I AND OTHERS HAVE HAD CAN BE RESOLVED BY KIA. I HAVE ONLY RECEIVED TWO RECALLS ON MY VIN #- ONE BEING THE HEADLAMP LOW BEAM CONNECTOR WIRING HARNESS DATED 4-22-2019. WHEN I TOOK IT IN TO THE KIA DEALERSHIP, THEY FOUND NO PROBLEMS?? THE OTHER ONE WAS DATED AUGUST 14, 2019 REGARDING AIRBAG CLOCK SPRING ASSEMBLY EXTENDING WARRANTY COVERAGE TO 15 YEARS/UNLIMITED MILEAGE. THANKS FOR CHECKING INTO MY PROBLEMS.

I HAD A POWER TRAIN RECALL ON MY VEHICLE. TOOK TO A KIA REPAIR SHOP AND THEY DID NOTHING TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM STILL EXIST AND I'M VERY DISTRAUGHT ABOUT IT. WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE DOESN'T HAVE ANY POWER TO ACCELERATE. THEY SAID IT WAS A REA SAFETY PROBLEM AND THE COMPUTER WILL NOT ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE. IM READY TO TAKE WHOM EVER TO COURT TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM.

WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO REPLACE WHAT I BELIEVED TO BE A BLOWN BULB I FIND THE BULB IS FINE AND THE SOCKET OR HARNESS DOES NOT KEEP A GOOD CONNECTION. THE BULB WILL COME ON AND OFF WITH VIBRATION. I HAD THE WIRING AND/OR HARNESS REPLACED MULTIPLE TIMES.
