ENGINE OIL LEAK (FIRE HAZARD). THE ENGINE OIL FILTER HOUSING (PART NUMBER 68105583AA) IS WIDELY REPORTED TO FAULTY BY OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE YEAR (2014). THIS PART CRACKS UNDER ROUTINE DRIVING AND LEAKS ENGINE OIL ONTO HOT SYSTEM COMPONENTS, SUCH AS THE EXHAUST CROSS OVER AND TRANSMISSION, WHERE THE OIL BURNS AND CREATES A FIRE HAZARD. MYSELF AND MY PASSENGERS HAVE NOTICED THIS SMOKE BEFORE IT IGNITED. HOWEVER OTHERS HAVE REPORTED A FIRE. THE OIL LEAK GENERALLY OCCURS WHEN THE ENGINE HAS COME UP TO TEMPERATURE AND THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN MOTION LONG ENOUGH TO REACH NORMAL OPERATING OIL PRESSURE AND TEMPERATURE. THE PROBLEM OCCURS IF THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY OR IN MOTION, REGARDLESS OF ROAD CONDITIONS. 2014 JEEP WRANGLER PENTASTAR OIL COOLER LEAKS WHICH POURS ONTO EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND STARTS ON FIRE. HAPPENED TO ME COMING HOME FROM WORK. LUCKILY I WAS IN THE DRIVEWAY AND I PUT IT OUT WITH MY EXTINGUISHER. OIL EVERYWHERE LEAKING DOWN ENGINE AND ON THE UNDER CARRIAGE. CAUGHT IT IN TIME AND NOTHING ELSE WAS EFFECTED. THE REPAIRS ARE VERY EXPENSIVE SINCE THE INTAKE MANIFOLD WILL NEED TO BE REMOVED TO REPLACE THE PARTS. THE OIL FILTER HOUSING WHICH THE OIL PRESSURE MOUNTS INTO WILL ALSO NEED TO BE REPLACED SINCE IT WAS LEAKING. THE SHOP ADVISED THEY HAVE REPLACED SEVERAL IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS AND THE ISSUE WAS VERY COMMON.

APPARENTLY THEY THOUGHT THEY FIXED IT, BUT PERHAPS THEY DIDN'T GET IT QUITE RIGHT, OR DIDN'T COVER ENOUGH YEARS. SEE CHRYSLER JEEP TSB 09-002-14 FOR REFERENCE. WHILE DRIVING I OBSERVED SMOKE WAS COMING OUT FROM MY VEHICLE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WITH THE ODOR OF BURNING OIL. OIL COOLER HAD A MAJOR LEAK OIL ON TOP OF ENGINE WAS EASILY A QUART. REST OF THE OIL HAD TRAVELED DOWN THE TRANSMISSION AND COVERED ALMOST THE ENTIRETY OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND EXHAUST. I NOTICED THE LEAK BY A STRONG SMOKEY OIL ODOR AS THE OIL HIT THE EXHAUST. THE OIL COOLER WAS REPLACED AND MUST HAVE ALSO CAUSED A LEAK IN THE COOLANT BECAUSE THE RESERVOIR WAS NEAR EMPTY. I RECENTLY HAD A CHANGE OIL INDICATOR GO OFF, EARLIER THAN ANTICIPATED. WHILE PERFORMING THE OIL CHANGE, I REALIZED THERE WAS OIL ALL OVER THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE, ESPECIALLY ON THE BOTTOM OF THE TRANSMISSION. I CLEANED UP AND PERFORMED THE OIL CHANGE. THE ENGINE OIL COOLER ASSEMBLY IS LEAKING A LARGE AMOUNT OF OIL INTO THE "V" OF THE ENGINE AND DRIPPING ON TO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED FOR OVER A WEEK AND UPON DRIVING SMOKE WITH THE SMELL OF BURNING OIL FILLED THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. TO THE EXTENT THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE PULLED OVER AND INSPECTED FOR FIRE AND DAMAGE. IT WAS NOTED THAT THE TRANSMISSION, FRAME RAILS, AND EXHAUST PIPES WERE COVERED IN OIL AND THE VEHICLE WAS APPROXIMATELY 2.5 QUARTS LOW ON OIL. NO PRIOR SIGNS OF AN OIL LEAK WERE PRESENT BEFORE THE SMOKE AND BURN OIL SMELL WAS NOTICED DURING NORMAL USE OF THE VEHICLE.
