On 7/10 I'm driving down the road towards the freeway. I hear a very loud pop that startles me. I pull over & discover lower ball joint has separated causing the lower control arm to slip out of socket into the wheel & than separate from wheel. I mean its still attached to the vehicle but vehicle is completely disabled. It caused significant damage to the right front wheel and somewhat minor damage to the right front fender. Theres literally metal shaving all over the road from it carving the metal out of my wheel. Get home and my boyfriend tells me that he's discovered 3 safety recalls. So we call FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) they said they would have it towed to the dealership no problem but they needed a $103 for the tow that they would reimburse later. I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT TO BRING IN MY CAR TO TEMPE CHRYSLER JEEP ON MARCH 5, 2015 TO HAVE THE OEM TRAILER HITCH INSTALLED. AFTER AN HOUR WAIT THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED ME THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO INSTALL IT BECAUSE THE 'WELL NUTS RUSTED OFF' AND THAT REPAIRS (AT CUSTOMER'S EXPENSE) ARE NEEDED BEFORE INSTALLATION CAN BE PERFORMED. THERE IS GROWING RUST ON THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE, ON THE ROOF PANEL, JUST ABOVE THE TAILGATE WINDOW, ON THE DRIVER SIDE. IT STARTED UNDER THE GLASS, INSIDE A WELD POINT. THE SUPPORT STRAPS FOR THE FUEL TANK FAILED SUDDENLY AFTER MAKING A LEFT TURN. THE FUEL TANK CONTACTED THE ROAD SURFACE FOR A SHORT TIME (1 MINUTE) BEFORE THE VEHICLE COULD BE STOPPED. THE REAR CORNER OF THE TANK (PASSENGER SIDE) WAS DAMAGED TO THE POINT THAT FUEL LEAKED FROM THE TANK. BOTH SUPPORT STRAPS WERE BROKEN AFTER THE INCIDENT. THE TANK WAS APPROXIMATELY 1/4 FULL PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. BOTH OF THE SUPPORT STRAPS FAILED NEAR THE BOTTOM OF THE FUEL TANK. THE REMAINING PIECES OF THE SUPPORT STRAPS WERE STILL FASTENED TO THE FRAME AND THE FASTENERS WERE STILL IN PLACE AFTER THE INCIDENT. BOTH SUPPORT STRAPS WERE SEVERELY RUSTED.
