DEALERSHIP RELATED THE FOUND STEERING GEAR HAD NO FLUID, IT WAS LEAKING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WE PARK THE CAR IN THE GARAGE AND HAVE NO LEAKS ON THE FLOOR. WHERE IS ALL THIS LEAKING FLUID GOING?
JEEP STALLS SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING WITH NO INDICATION OTHER THAN THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THIS OCCURS REPEATEDLY AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS RANGING FROM 15 MPH IN THE CITY TO 60 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. STALLING HAS OCCURRED WHEN SLOWING DOWN AND ALSO WHILE TURNING.
AS I WAS DRIVING MY A/C STOPPED BLOWING COLD AIR. BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON THEN ALL THE DASH INDICATORS STARTED BLINKING WRONG INCLUDING MY SEAT BELT INDICATOR, RADIO SHUT OFF, ETC. CAR DROVE AS IF IT HAD LITTLE POWER THEN STEERING JERKED AS IF CAR WAS GOING TO SHUT DOWN. PULLED OVER AND TURNED OFF CAR AND CAR WOULD NOT RESTART. TOOK TO THE MECHANIC WHO CONFIRMED IS THE ALTERNATOR. VEHICLE ONLY HS 60K MILES.
POWER STEERING FLUID LEAKING; ACCORDING TO DEALER, POWER STEERING FLUID IS HIGHLY FLAMMABLE AND MAY CAUSE A FIRE FORCING ME TO PAY THE $1,600 FOR A NEW STEERING RACK. 2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE, 26K MILES.
FRONT RACK AND PINION STEERING BOOT LEAKING. CAR BOUGHT NEW AND HAS 59,000 MILES. ON LINE REPORTS MANY OTHER VEHICLES WITH SAME PROBLEM. SAFETY ISSUE FOUND ON YEARLY INSPECTION.
RACK AND PINION IS LEAKING POWER STEERING FLUID. A CRACK IN THE SEAL HAS DEVELOPED IN THE RACK ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER HAD ANY OTHER ISSUES LIKE THIS BEFORE. ALSO THE COMPUTER HAS NOT INDICATED LOW POWER STEERING FLUID BUT THE MECHANIC TOLD ME IT WAS LOW. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVEN RECKLESSLY OR OFF ROAD THAT WOULD CAUSE A CRACK LIKE THIS. THERE IS NO SIMPLE FIX FOR THIS OTHER THAN A $1300+ REPAIR FOR AN ISSUE THAT IS A DEFECT. I HAVE HAD 2 MECHANICS AND THE DEALERSHIP LOOK AT THE ISSUE AND GIVE ME QUOTES. I DISCOVERED THIS IN JANUARY.
THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON MY 2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WHILE IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET, AND BECAME APPARENT WHILE TURNING, MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER THE VEHICLE. THE POWER STEERING PUMP HAD FAILED AND NEEDED COMPLETE REPLACEMENT AT 66K MILES.
MY 2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAD LOW LEVELS OF POWER STEERING FLUID AFTER REPLACING THE POWER STEERING PUMP, SO I RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THE POWER STEERING RACK AND PINION WOULD ALSO NEED COMPLETE REPLACEMENT. THE JEEP HAD 80K MILES.
IN THE 18 MONTHS I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE IT HAS RANDOMLY TURNED OFF 5-6 TIMES ON THE HIGHWAY OR ON A STREET. THE ENGINE TURNS OFF (WITH NO WARNING ON THE DASH) AND YOU LOSE POWER STEERING AND BRAKING. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE IN THE LAST TWO MONTHS AND THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO DIAGNOSE. I AM PICKING UP THE CAR TOMORROW FROM THE DEALERSHIP THAT HAS HAD IT FOR THE PAST SIX DAYS. THEY WILL BE RELEASING ME AN UNSAFE CAR THAT I WILL NOT ALLOW MY DAUGHTER OR WIFE TO DRIVE.
2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE POWER STEERING IS WHINING LOUDLY WHILE IDLING AND IN MOTION FLUID IS BEING LOST.. OCCASIONAL VIBRATION IN STEERING SYSTEM WHEN CORNERING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 5 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AS THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER AND WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING COMPONENT FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE JEEP JOLTED/ JUMPED TO THE SIDE WHEN WE DROVE OVER MILDLY UNEVENLY PAVED ROADS OR OVERPASSES CAUSING US TO LOSE CONTROL OF OUR VEHICLE MOMENTARILY. WE WERE AT 65 MPH AND THE JEEP ROCKED A FEW TIMES UPON ATTEMPTING TO STABILIZE. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES AND OUR LAST INCIDENT ALMOST THREW US INTO THE SIDE OF A SEMI. THE DEALER CANNOT EXPLAIN THIS AND WE HAVE HAD NEW TIRES AND AN ALIGNMENT DONE WITHOUT ANY IMPROVEMENT. I WAS DRIVING DOWN A BUSY ROAD IN OUR TOWN TODAY. THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON. APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES LATER WHILE STILL DRIVING, THE LIGHTS ON DASH STARTED FLASHING ON AND OFF, SEATBELT ALARM STARTED GOING OFF, WINDSHIELD WIPERS STARTED WORKING WITHOUT TURNING ON. THE RADIO TURNED OFF. I LOST POWER STEERING. THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF WHILE STILL DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. I HAD NO POWER BREAKS--SEEMED TO ALMOST STOP WORKING. I WAS FORTUNATE TO GET ON SIDE OF ROAD IN GRASS TO KEEP FROM GETTING HIT BY ANOTHER CAR. IF THERE HAD NOT BEEN A GRASSY AREA THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE THEN WAS COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN--DOOR LOCKS WOULD NOT WORK- TRIED TO PUT KEY FOB IN IGNITION AND COULD NOT GET IT BACK OUT--WAS UNABLE TO GET BACK GATE OPENED. I AM LOSING POWER STEERING FLUID ON MY 2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE - THERE IS A LEAK SOMEWHERE IN THE STEERING. I HAVE ONLY 40,K MILES ON THIS VEHICLE. THERE HAVE BEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS AND IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT IN THE STEERING SYSTEM - CHRYSLER SHOULD RECALL AND REPAIR THIS PROBLEM.
MY STEERING WILL AT VARIOUS TIMES, SHAKE WILL DRIVING, SOMETIMES VIOLENTLY. THE SHAKING GETS WORSE IF I APPLY THE BRAKES. THIS IS AN OFF AND ON PROBLEM AND DOES NOT OCCUR EVERYDAY. IT MOSTLY OCCURS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (55 MPH+) I HAVE VIDEO OF THIS OCCURRING AVAILABLE FOR VIEWING.(MP4 FORMAT) I HAVE BEEN TO THE JEEP DEALER (THOMPSON CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP IN EDGEWOOD MARYLAND) 3 TIMES (HAVE SHOWN THEM THE VIDEO) IN THE LAST YEAR TRYING TO GET THIS CORRECTED, BUT THEY CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT'S WRONG. I'M AFRAID THAT THIS PROBLEM WILL ONE DAY CAUSE ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT WHERE I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO CONTROL THE STEERING WHILE DRIVING.
WHEN SLOWING DOWN OR COMING TO A STOP, THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE WILL TURN OFF AND POWER STEERING WILL NOT WORK. IN ORDER TO START THE VEHICLE AGAIN, I NEED TO COMPLETELY STOP, PUT IT IN PARK AND START THE ENGINE. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON THE STREET AND FREEWAY. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN CONSTANTLY. I HAVE HAD TIMES WHERE IT HAPPENS 2 DAYS IN A ROW, ONCE A WEEK, AND ONCE A MONTH. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER A FEW TIMES ALREADY, BUT THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE FIGURE OUT WHAT THE ISSUE IS. AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE AT THE DEALER FOR OVER 1 MONTH, I SPOKE TO A SENIOR TECHNICIAN THAT WORKS AT THE DEALER AND HE SAID IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE. HE TOLD ME THAT VEHICLES WITH THE 5.7L ENGINE AND THE PUSH TO START BUTTON HAVE BEEN HAVING THIS ISSUE AND THE ISSUE STARTS...
RACK AND PINION LEAKING. ON JULY 23 2012 THERE WAS AN ARTICLE PUBLISHED ABOUT CARS GOING ON FOR DUE TO POWER STEERING FLUID SPRAYING ON MOTOR. PLEASE RECALL THIS PROBLEM. IT'S HAS AFFECTED MANY.
BROUGHT MY 2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT I PURCHASED IT FROM 6 MONTHS PRIOR FOR AN OIL CHANGE. WHEN PICKING IT UP THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS A SIGNIFICANT LEAK AND HANDED ME A QUOTE TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING RACK FOR 1700 DOLLARS. NOT WHAT I WANTED TO HEAR FROM A CERTIFIED VEHICLE I PURCHASED WITH LESS THAN 50000 MILES.
AT 40 THOUSAND MILES THE RACK AND PINION NEED REPLACED. THERE IS A LEAK COMING FROM THIS PART. I WAS NOTIFIED DURING AN OIL CHANGE THAT THE REPAIR ISN'T NORMAL AND WOULD COST $1,200. THERE IS NO DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. STEERING IS A LITTLE WHINY NOW BUT ACCORDING TO OTHER OWNERS, THIS IS THE START OF THE FAILURE.

UPON INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE POWER STEERING FLUID WAS LOW AND THERE WAS AN INTERNAL FRACTURE THAT CAUSED A LEAK OF THE POWER STEERING FLUID WITHOUT WARNING. THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE12020 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND DIAGNOSIS TO DETERMINE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED NO REMEDY. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE NOT AVAILABLE.
WENT IN TO GET AN OIL CHANGE TODAY AND FOUND OUT MY JEEP'S STEERING RACK IS LEAKING. THE CAR HAS 51,000 MILES AND THEY SAID IT SHOULDN'T BE LEAKING ALREADY. FROM WHAT I'VE LEARNED THIS SEEMS TO BE A FAULTY PART AND NOT DUE TO POOR MAINTENANCE OF THE VEHICLE, I JUST PURCHASED IT 4 MONTHS AGO SO I KNOW I DID NOT CAUSE THE PROBLEM.
1-AFTER QUICKLY STOPPING ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO COLLECT MAIL, I TRIED TO GO BACK INTO THE ROAD TO CONTINUE DRIVING BUT THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND I COULD NOT STRAIGHTEN THE VEHICLE. I ENDED UP CROSSING INTO THE OTHER SIDE, GOING INTO THE DITCH AND HITTING A SNOW BANK. DUE TO THE VERY SLOW SPEED (I WAS SPEEDING FROM THE PARKED POSITION) AND TO THE LUCK THAT THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS COMING ON THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION, NO HARM WAS DONE. DEALERSHIP NEVER FOUND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. 2- I HAVE HAD TWO SAFETY RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE THAT HAVE NOT BEEN ADDRESSED ON A REASONABLE TIME FRAME. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALTERNATOR NEEDED REPLACEMENT AND THE PART REQUIRED WAS UNAVAILABLE. IMMEDIATELY AFTER LEAVING THE DEALER AND WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE SEAT BELT INDICATOR ILLUMINATED, THE AIR CONDITIONING AND RADIO WENT OFF. THE CONTACT LOST THE STEERING AND ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED USING PARTS KNOWN TO BE INCLUDED UNDER AN RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,000.
DAY 1....CAR JUST STOPPED OUT OF NO WHERE A PICTURE OF A BATTERY SHOWED UP AND THE CAR JUST STOPPED AND SHUT DOWN ON ITS OWN DAY 2....TOOK CAR IN TO GET A NEW BATTERY BECAUSE THAT WAS TOTALLY DEAD BUT ON DAY 3...THE BATTERY DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM THE CAR ONCE AGAIN SHUT DOWN ON ME AND THIS TIME IT WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY I WAS STUCK FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS CANT EVEN JUMP THE CAR CUZ IT STILL WONT START IT SO I HAD TO GET IT TOWED OFF THE FREEWAY.. MIDDAY OF DAY 3 DISCOVERED IT WAS THE ALTERNATOR AND FINDS OUT THERE WERE FOR 4 RECALLS ON MY CAR SO I TOOK IT TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP. THEY STATED THEY CAN ONLY FIX 3 OUT OF 4 OF THE RECALL DUE TO NOT HAVING ALL THE PARTS AND INFORMED ME IT...
THE POWER STEERING HOSE IS LEAKING FLUID ONTO THE ENGINE.
SEAL FAILS PREMATURELY ON RACK AND PINION. IT LEAKS INTO BOOT SEALING THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE END OF THE RACK AND THE INNER RODS, WHICH MASKS THE PROBLEM. BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS NOT DRIPPING FLUID THE LEAK GOES UNNOTICED. I SEE THIS AS A SERIOUS ISSUE, AS MOST PEOPLE DO NOT EXPECT THE RACK & PINION TO FAIL AT SUCH AN EARLY INTERVAL THEY ARE PROBABLY NOT CHECKING FLUID LEVELS.. THIS COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE LACK OF STEERING AND RESULT IN MANY ACCIDENTS. JEEP IS IGNORING THE PROBLEM, MESSAGE BOARDS ON INTERNET ARE FULL OF PEOPLE REPORTING THIS ISSUE. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT INVESTIGATED. *TR
HAVING THE JEEP SERVICES FOR A BROKEN CHAIR RAIL ($1200!) AND THEY TOLD ME THE POWER STEERING RESERVOIR WAS EMPTY AND THE POWER STEERING PUMP, RESERVOIR, RACK AND PINION AND HOSES WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED FOR ANOTHER $2350! I'VE READ THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS A HISTORY OF THIS AND HAS CREATED A FIRE HAZARD. THIS CAR IS NOT 3 YEARS OLD AND HAS HAD FUEL PUMP, WATER PUMP, REAR LATCH LOCK AND MULTIPLE RECALLS ON OTHER ITEMS. DEALERSHIP IS RAKING IN THE CASH; IT VERY UPSETTING FOR SOMEONE WHO REALLY WANTS TO BUY AMERICAN MADE VEHICLES! *TR
LAST SATURDAY (01/31/2015), I GOT 48K SERVICE DONE ON THIS JEEP. YESTERDAY (02/02/2015) THE STEERING WHEEL GOT JAMMED WHEN MY WIFE WAS REVERSING THE VEHICLE FROM THE DRIVEWAY. WE FOUND OUT THAT THE POWER STEERING FLUID WAS MISSING. I TOOK THE JEEP BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY FOUND THAT THE POWER STEERING FLUID CONTAINER IS LEAKING. *TR
RECEIVED OIL CHANGE AT DEALERSHIP, THEY ADVISED THAT THE POWER STEERING RESERVOIR WAS EMPTY AND POWER STEERING RACK HAD A LEAK. FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM LISTED ON THIS MODEL YEAR WITH SOME CAUSING AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE. ALSO FOUND THAT THE NHTSA WAS INVESTIGATING THIS FOR A POSSIBLE RECALL. *TR
WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN (WIDE RIGHT, NOT SHARP RIGHT) THE ENGINE "STALLED" AND ALL STEERING CAPABILITY WAS LOST. THE CAR ATTEMPTED TO "STRAIGHTEN OUT". IT TOOK A GREAT DEAL OF STRENGTH TO KEEP THE WHEEL FROM TURNING BACK TO CENTER. AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO TURN THE WHEEL FURTHER TO THE RIGHT. FORTUNATELY NO TRAFFIC AT THAT LOCATION SO I WAS ABLE TO "GUIDE" (NOT STEER) THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I PUT "STALLED" IN QUOTES BECAUSE THIS WAS MORE LIKE A "LOCKUP" THAN A STALL. THE ENGINE ABRUPTLY STOPPED. ALL ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS WERE STILL ON. NO WARNING LIGHTS ON DASHBOARD. RADIO CONTINUED PLAYING. HEATER FAN WAS STILL RUNNING. POWER BRAKES WERE STILL FUNCTIONING. FYI: THIS IS THE REGULAR HEMI ENGINE. RE-STARTING THE CAR WAS ODD TOO. IT DIDN'T "CRANK". UPON PRESSING THE START BUTTON, THE ENGINE "SNAPPED ON" - LIKE THOSE NEWER STOP/START ENGINES...
BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON AFTER APPROXIMATELY 5 MILES OF DRIVING AFTER STARTING THE CAR, ON 10/5/14. THIS PATTERN CONTINUED FOR TWO DAYS, AND ON THE MORNING OF 10/8/14 THE CAR STOPPED RUNNING COMPLETELY WHILE I WAS PULLING INTO THE PARKING LOT OF THE AUTO SHOP TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. WHILE DRIVING, I LOST POWER STEERING AND ABS BEFORE THE CAR STALLED COMPLETELY A FEW MOMENTS LATER. I HAD TO HAVE THE ALTERNATOR REPLACED WITH ONLY 50,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. SEVERAL DAYS LATER I LEARNED OF A NEW RECALL ON CHRYSLER VEHICLES DUE TO ALTERNATOR PROBLEMS, AND TODAY I LEARNED MY VEHICLE WAS NOT A PART OF THIS RECALL BECAUSE I HAVE A 180 AMP ALTERNATOR, AND THOSE RECALLED WERE 160 AMP. I AM CHOOSING TO REPORT THIS INCIDENT BECAUSE I BELIEVE THE FAILURE OF MY ALTERNATOR COULD HAVE CAUSED SERIOUS INJURY TO MYSELF OR OTHER DRIVERS IF I...

ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS OVER THE PAST TWO MONTHS, I HAVE EXPERIENCED AN UNANTICIPATED ENGINE STALL WHEN DECELERATING FROM HIGHWAY SPEED IN ORDER TO MAKE A TURN (BOTH RIGHT AND LEFT). IN EACH OF THESE INSTANCES, AS I WAS IN THE TURN (OR IMMEDIATELY BEFORE), THE ENGINE STALLED, LEAVING ME WITHOUT POWER-ASSISTED STEERING OR BRAKES. THIS MAKES THE VEHICLE DIFFICULT TO CONTROL, AS THE AMOUNT OF PHYSICAL FORCE NEEDED TO COMPLETE A TURN IS VERY SUBSTANTIAL. IN EACH INSTANCE, AFTER BRINGING THE VEHICLE UNDER CONTROL, I WAS ABLE TO RESTART IT BY PLACING THE SHIFT SELECTOR IN "NEUTRAL," APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL, AND PUSHING THE ENGINE START BUTTON. THE VEHICLE LOST ALL ELECTRICAL POWER, STEERING AND BRAKING WHILE IN MOTION. THE VEHICLE LOST ALL CONTROL OF STEERING AND BREAKING WHEN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SHUTOFF. THE ELECTRICAL ISSUE HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES WITHIN THE FIRST 2 YEAR OF OWNERSHIP (~32,000 MILES). THE FOLLOWING PARTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED: FUEL PUMP RELAY AND OVERLAY HARNESS, WIRELESS IGNITION NODE, INTEGRATED KEY FOB, TIPM KIT, 2 KEY FOBS, BRAKE BOOSTER. VEHICLE ALMOST CAUSED 3 SEVERE ACCIDENTS WHILE IN MOTION. *TR
AS I WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT, ALL THE SUDDEN A CHIME WENT OFF IN MY CAR AND I LOST POWER STEERING. THE POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH AN AMBER COLORED ENGINE LIGHT. WE WERE ABLE TO DRIVE IT TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP AND ARE CURRENTLY WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM THEM ON WHAT THE ISSUE IS. I DID CHECK THE POWER STEERING FLUID AND IT WAS AT LEAST HALF FULL EVEN THOUGH I HAD MY JEEP INTO THIS SAME DEALERSHIP LAST WEEK FOR AN OIL CHANGE BUT THEY MUST NOT HAVE FELT THE POWER STEERING FLUID NEEDED FILLED. *TR

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PARTS FOR THE REPAIR WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REPAIR WAS NOT PERFORMED IN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AND SERVICE DEPT FOR MY DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS THE CYLINDER HEAD. STILL WAITING FOR PART TO BE DELIVERED. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR CHRYSLER SINCE 2012. IN 2012, I HAD TO HAVE THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT REPLACED. JEEP WAS PURCHASED NEW IN 2/2012. *TR

COULD HEAR POWER STEERING PUMP WHINE. LOOKED AT POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL AND IT WAS LOW. CRAWLED UNDERNEATH AND FOUND FLUID DRIPPING OFF OF RACK'N PINION AND SIGNS OF FLUID BLOWING ALL OVER UNDER CARRIAGE. TOOK TO DEALER AND REPORTED THE PROBLEM ON JULY 1ST. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO VIBRATE VIOLENTLY. THE DEFECT RECURRED CONTINUOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FIVE TIMES FOR THE STEERING MALFUNCTION. THE REPAIRS CONSISTED OF BOTH FRONT TIRES BEING REPLACED AND BALANCED AND A FOUR WHEEL ALIGNMENT. THE FAILURE CONTINUED AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE REMAINED AT THE DEALER FOR ADDITIONAL INVESTIGATION OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE NY ASSISTANCE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150.
WE HAD NOTICED A SMALL PUDDLE OF FLUID IN OUR GARAGE AND TOOK CAR TO BE SERVICED AT JEEP. THEY SAID IT WAS TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FIXED THE PROBLEM. NEXT DAY WE DROVE 500 MILES TO OLIVER BC AND WHEN WE STOPPED THE CAR, WE NOTICED A LARGER PUDDLE OF RED FLUID FROM THE LEFT FRONT AREA UNDER CAR. THE CAR WAS DIFFICULT TO STEER AND REALIZED IT MUST BE POWER STEERING FLUID THAT WAS LEAKING. WE TOOK IT TO A DEALER IN PENTICTION, BC AND THEY SAID THAT THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING FLUID LEFT IN THE SYSTEM. THEY "LOCATED POWER STEERING LEAK, AS CLAMP WAS NOT RELEASED, THEY RELEASED CLAMP, CLEANED OFF THE FLUIDS, REFILLED RESERVOIR, ROAD TESTED AND NO LEAKS." WE THEN DROVE ANOTHER 300 MILES TO OUR DESTINATION AND HAVE NOT HAD ANY LEAKS AND THE POWER STEERING SEEMS FINE. WE JUST BOUGHT THE CAR IN...

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 1 MPH IN THE DRIVEWAY, A LOUD NOISE EMITTED FROM OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND SUDDENLY THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE CONTACT NOTICED AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF STEERING FLUID LEAKING ONTO THE GROUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHERE THE POWER STEERING HOSE WAS RECONNECTED. THE MALFUNCTION RECURRED TWICE AND EACH TIME THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THERE WERE OTHER REPAIRS PERFORMED AT DIFFERENT TIMES, WHICH CONSISTED OF REPLACING THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND COOLER. IN ADDITION, THE POWER STEERING RACK AND HOSES WERE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THERE WAS CURRENTLY AN OPEN INVESTIGATION UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE12020 (STEERING:HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST:HOSE, PIPING, AND CONNECTIONS). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000.
POWER STEERING HOSE BURST, SPILLING FLUID, AND POWER STEERING WAS SUDDENLY LOST AFTER ONLY 400 MILES. FORTUNATELY I WAS DRIVING SLOWLY ON A NEIGHBORHOOD STREET AND NOT YET ON THE HIGHWAY. CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. MECHANIC RECEIVED DIRECTIVE FROM CHRYSLER ON A "FIX". HE MADE THE FIX, AS DIRECTED, BUT THE NEW HOSE QUICKLY BURST ON HIM DURING TESTING. CHRYSLER HAS DIRECTED A SECOND FIX. I HAVE NOT YET HEARD ABOUT THE STATUS OF THE SECOND FIX. I'VE BEEN WITHOUT MY CAR FOR 4 DAYS. I HAVE READ THAT CHRYSLER HAD TO RECALL 26,000 VEHICLES IN 2010 FOR A SIMILAR POWER STEERING PROBLEM. *TR
