THIS JEEP COMMANDER WAS SITTING AT THE GAS STATION AFTER DRIVING IT HOME 30 MILES. UPON IGNITION OF ENGINE, THERE WAS A LOUD EXPLOSIVES SOUND, THE ENGINE SOUNDED LIKE A BUCKET OF BOLTS. I SHUT OFF THE IGNITION IMMEDIATELY, THEN GOT IT TOWED HOME UNTIL I GOT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE CAR REQUIRES A NEW ENGINE. THERE ARE MANY SIMILAR CASES TO MY STORY, AND I BELIEVE THERE WAS A MAJOR FAILURE DUE TO FAULTY ENGINE COMPONENTS. AN INVESTIGATION SHOULD BE LAUNCHED. THERE ARE TOO MANY PEOPLE REPORTING THE SAME FAILURE, IF NOT ON THIS SITE, THAN ON OTHER JEEP COMMANDER FORUM SITES. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. JEEP STARTED MAKING A TICKING NOISE RANDOMLY ONE DAY. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY EXPLAINED THE THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS WERE BROKEN ON BOTH SIDES. VERY STRANGE CONSIDERING THAT MY JEEP HAVE NEVER BEEN OFF-ROAD. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH IT HAS BECOME VERY OBVIOUS THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH ALL OF THE CHRYSLER VEHICLES WITH THE 4.7L V8. THE COMPANY DOESN'T TRY TO HELP WITH THE COST AND ACTUALLY CHARGES AN ASTRONOMICAL AMOUNT TO REPAIR SOMETHING THAT I CONSIDER BAD ENGINEERING ON THEIR PART. WHILE TRAVELING ON AN EXPRESSWAY IN CENTRAL MICHIGAN, I WAS USING THE CRUISE CONTROL TO MAINTAIN A SPEED OF 75 MPH. WITH NO WARNING AT ALL, THE MECHANICAL COMPONENTS OF THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN, LEAVING MY JEEP "DEAD IN THE HIGHWAY".
