2017 HYUNDAI SANTA FE Engine Problems

Over the past year, the engine light continues to come on. The first time this happened, there was no oil in the reservoir even though it had recently had an oil change. They did another oil change and sent us on our way. The next time.[XXX], the check engine light came there was a loud clanking sound and low oil again. This was the code the dealership said it was: Code P0021 [XXX] . He suggested a tune-up at this time. He says the engine light should stay off. We just need to continue to check the oil. [XXX]. This problem first started when oil light was on and my regular mechanic sent me to Hyundai because engine required excessive amts of oil. Oil usage test conducted, engine replaced under the NATIONAL RECALL. I have maintained car with regular service before and since that time. 10-14/2024 Good Year Center did my routine oil change at 190,027 on this replacement engine. At time of service, this second engine had 91,463 miles since being replaced in 2022. My complaint is the dealership that said had completed the recall on my brake systems according to both your and state records was not completed. They gave me a service notice stating the work was done. Since then the braked have continued to act up and the vehicle as a strange acceleration problem. The dealership is Don Wood Hyundai in Athens Ohio.

I have Hyudai Santafe 2017 Sport, bought it from dealership in 2020 with 46,000 Miles and in around past 4/5 years added 30,000 miles. Which is not much, in the past one year i have noticed that engine oil is burning faster than usual. On every oil change after driving between 1200 and 1500 miles the oil engine sign blinks and upon checking needed 2 Quarts of oil. I spoke the dealership and they are not very helpfull. I was driving my 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe and suddenly I heard the knock sound from the engine and when I pulled over, I saw the oil came down from the engine. I towed my vehicle to Hyundai dealership and they diagnosed the issue is vertical square and potential rod bearing failure. My vehicle has only 91k miles. Excessive oil consumption greater that 1 quart per 1000 miles.

After a perfect dealership maintenance history and being babied since bought new, the 3.3L V6 engine in our 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe seized at 101,800 miles without any warning other than a slight knock on startup the day this occurred. The engine seized while being driven on a side road without any warning lights, causing loss of steering and braking power. Hyundai has extended the warranty on the 4 cyl engines for this model year vehicle, but based on online forums there is clearly a manufacturing defect with the V6 engines as well. We were forced to pay ($1,541) for 20% of the cost to repair the engine with rebuilt components after Hyundai kept the car for nearly four months. I feel this payment should be reimbursed given the warranty on the V6 engines also needs to be extended.

While driving on rural side road, two lanes, my check engine light (yellow, steady) came on. I pulled into a safe spot and did a quick survey, checked the owner manual, but could not identify any problem, and continued on my way. The check engine light was still on. About 15 minutes later the car would not accelerate past 25 mph (limp mode?). Engine blew due to excessive oil consumption (at time of incident I had not a drop of oil left) with no warning. My safety was put at risk by my car stalling in the middle of driving with my kids in the car. My vehicle is now at a service shop, mechanic informing me I need a whole new engine. I went for an oil engine and they told me that my engine didn't have any oil. I checked for oil leaks and the vehicle does not have any oil leaks. My car has 100,480 mileage and have never been in any sort of accident.

My car has 81,000 miles on it, I have had regular oil changes and after reading many recalls on here I see I am definitely not alone. My check engine light stays on, after paying $100. for dealer to check the codes I was told nothing in particular showed a problem even though I have to put oil in my car between oil changes and there are no leaks on drive. Apparently the 100K mile warranty is not being honored from the other reports I have read on here. Why ??? The engine consumed all of the oil and now has to be replaced

Since this vehicle reached about 75,000 miles, it has been burning oil like crazy. We have to add a quart every 7-10 days. It drives fine, there’s no oil leaks, no smoke from the tailpipe. We took the car to Hyundai and they did their oil consumption tests. They came to the conclusion that this was within the normal range and would do nothing for us. This needs to be fixed, Hyundai!

While driving a 1/2 second squeal came from engine compartment. Motor immediately stopped. No power steering or brakes. Vehicle is available for inspection. We purchased a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe SE ULTIMATE from Hampton Hyundai in December of 2019. The vehicle has the V6 3.3 Liter Lambda II motor. At the time of purchase it had 44,969 miles on it and we paid roughly $27,000 for the vehicle and associated service package. We routinely had the vehicle serviced according to the recommended service schedule. In early 2022 we realized that the engine began burning oil at an alarming rate. I was driving along 55mph on a 2 lane road when suddenly the car shut off. I was fortunate that it died at the top of a hill and I was able to coast to the safety of a side street. I was in a remote part of michigan and 20 miles from any service stations with my 3 children. The car would not restart. I was able to contact a tow truck who took it to my mechanic who said the engine had failed and I would need a new engine.

The engine is suffering from excessive oil consumption that might result in the engine blowing up. Hyundai is aware of the issue with many reports filed but has refused to address the issue.

3.3l engine with 120k miles began making a noise and suddenly failed while driving at interstate speeds. No warning lights or messages appeared prior to this incident. All occupants, two adults and child, were placed in danger while attempting to exit the highway and were left stranded with an inoperable vehicle.

Complete engine failure at 150,000. No check engine or warning lights prior to failure. I was traveling at 75 mph on the freeway when the engine lost power and locked up. I bought this vehicle back in 2022 hearing how great Hyundai is wanting to make a long time purchase with a for my family. I’ve had different models vehicles but I wanted something reliable. Now hearing this is possibly a fire hazard I need all this taking care of immediately . Vehicle stalled while driving and began knocking

knocking noise, check engine light, and then complete engine failure in one week. There is a recall on the engine but only for a month period and we don't fall in that manufacture date.

(Feb 2022) As with all the years before, vehicle passed inspection without issue. (April 2022) 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe went in to the dealership to have fixed the recalled Auxiliary Canister Kit at 73k miles. Before this, there were no issues ever with my vehicle. (June 2022) Within a month and a half of the fixed recall, my car started to exhibit issues—without warning while driving on the highway, vehicle stalled and lost control of all functions. The engine started ticking. I was driving on the highway and it started as a very slight sound (not yet ticking/knocking). But when I slowed down to exit the highway and then started to accelerate again the clicking got worse. The check engine light came on and I checked the code and it was P0014 and P0024. The oil was also low. I took it to the dealership and they said I need a new engine.

My 2017 Sante Fe has recently started consuming oil at a very alarming rate. From doing research, there is ALOTA of hyundai owners having the same issue. There is no oil level indication light on the vehicle. Hyundai is aware of these problems. From what I have researched, this has been an issue since 2012. The vehicle suddenly shut down while driving and the wheels locked up. There were no warning indicators at all. The failure happened to occur on a residential street, but if at speed on a highway this likely would have resulted an an accident. Upon inspection at the dealership it was determined that a connecting rod bearing failed and the rod had created a nearly 3 inch split in the engine block.

Engine knocks when I try to accelerate, there is also a long hesitation and vibration when I accelerate, reduced power, engine is burning oil excessively and engine smokes.
