1. POWER STEERING RACK 2. ABS MODULATOR My 2015 Honda Accord experienced a sudden failure of both the ABS system and power steering rack. The dealership confirmed the failure was not due to neglect or wear. Due to the safety risk the repair estimate exceeding $14,000 for the safety system and regular repairs, I was forced to trade in the vehicle. Honda denied goodwill assistance on the safety systems (power steering rack & ABS modulator) November 17, 2025 saying vehicle is out of warranty and cited value and year of the vehicle. I was the only owner of vehicle and only serviced at Balise Honda of West Warwick and/or Johnston RI.
While driving, Steering looses power, so steering is very difficult. Car needs to be restarted to gain control of steering. Took it to a mechanic and he explained that Honda accords have this problem. He scanned the vehicle and received a DTC code 53-02 and advised to visit Honda dealer for repairs or possible recall fix. The car vin number search does not list any outstanding recalls.
Steering system is stiff and all the warning lights are on in the dashboard. Vehicle pulls hard to the left and you have to hold the wheel steady to keep it from pulling to the left. Appears there is a steering rack issue. I've seen on internet that many 2015 Accords have this issue. There needs to be a recall. Honda dealership quoting $3500 to $5000 to repair. This is not right!!
Driving and without warning steering light came on, display flickered, engine surged, and complete loss of steering in a matter seconds. I was barely able to turn car onto a driveway where the engine shutdown. I restarted engine and noticed considerable knocking, put car in gear and engine shut-off. I had car towed to a garage and am waiting for info. I should note that the previous month there has been some parasitic draw that requires me to jump start the car every few days even with a new battery.
System charging error prompts on the dash board continuously. Check my battery and it’s not my battery. Steering wheel light turned on and car began to lock and the whole dashboard started to flicker while I was driving . I was driving and my steering wheel locked on me always causing an accident. I tried getting a jump and my battery is fine. Then when I try to move the vehicle the steering wheel starts to lock up. My radio even started to reset and glitch and my system was shutting back on and off while I was driving.
Multiple issues having to do with battery replacement, Alternator, and starter. Discussed this same issue with Honda they have ignored the issue had the vehicle inspected by dealership multiple times and by local mechanics. The vehicles also for many years would lock steering wheel and starter would lock wouldn't allow driver to start also when vehicle starts it’s a full force at once and you feel the force. I am worried that’s there is an issue also when the fuel travels after it starts from the full force I had mentioned.
Power steering, brake, ABS light, traction light on. ABS module is bad and it’s a common issue with Honda accords. 2000 dollar job and dealership unable to repair due to being back order and vehicle is not safe to drive.
My steering wheel everytime i turn left completely turns my car off or stiffens when in reverse . I was driving to work on 05/03/2025 and my car completely turned off while turning left off the interstate
While making a left U-turn my car suddenly restarted which caused a loss of power steering and acceleration. This issue occurred 2 more times until I was able to straighten the car out into the intended lane of traffic. During the vehicle restart, I noticed several dash lights appear in the left area of the dashboard, however could not identify the meaning.
Steering wheel gets hard while driving. Works fine for a little while then starts again.i was in a busy street when it occurred. Worried about our safety while driving. Car lot replaced power steering rack and pin. But still ongoing . They cant seem to fix it right. I just got the car. The ABS Light, steering light, FCW, LDW, and brake light came on. I did not experience anything indicating an issue with the car before this happened. I took my car to Open Road Honda in Edison, NJ. The dealer performed a diagnostic test which showed the module(solenoid) had fried. This resulted in the "VSA" System warning lights to appear (ABS Light, steering light, FCW, LDW, and brake warning lights to show). The car is pretty much undriveable without getting this repaired. Because the VSA Solenoids are built inside the ABS Modulator, they can not be replaced separately. The cost to repair this, $3800 with an initial Diagnostic fee was $250. There are multiple complaints I found in YouTube, Reddit, and other blogs stating the same issue even for cars under 100k miles. If possible, please issue a recall on this part since this impacts all Honda Accords from 2013-2017.
I was driving on 02-03-2025 when suddenly the electric steering warning light came on. Immediately the steering became very difficult to turn. This all happened while I was driving.
This has happened twice now, seemingly out of the blue and seemingly since the Honda dealership replaced the car’s faulty starter and torque wheel. The electric power steering light comes on, the steering becomes stiff and the car hard to control. Luckily the first time, it was quick and then went away. I was rounding a corner and the car became difficult to control. I was going between 35-40 mph. The second time I was going 15-20 mph. I went over the railroad track which caused a slight bump, the power steering light came on and it became difficult to control the car. I pulled over to the side of the road and into a parking lot best I could. I turned the engine off and on again. I tried to move the steering wheel but it was still stiff. I turned the car off again and it seemed ok....
Upon starting the car (54,000 miles) the ABS Light, Steering light, FCW, LDW, Brake light came on. After looking in the manual it was determine that the car was dangerous to drive. I did not experience anything indicating an issue with the car before this happened. I took it to Scott Clark Honda right away. The dealer preformed a diagnostic test which showed the Anti lock braking system Solenoid Value was Malfunctioning, the Electric Power Steering was experiencing a problem in the "VSA" System, the Forward Collision warning, and Lane Departure warning were showing a "VSA" Brake Actuator Malfunction. The car was underivable without getting this repaired. Because the VSA Solenoids are built inside the ABS Modulator they can not be replaces separately. The cost to repair this $2764 the part cannot be replace without a $150 Brake Fluid exchange. The initial Diagnostic fee was $30. The out of pocket...
While performing a normal U-Turn at a stop sign, I turned the wheel all the way to the left. When the wheel reached it's max rotation to the left, the Power Steering light on the dash flashed for a second, but at the same time the whole car turned off and then back on. I was stopped mid-turn until the car restarted. Not knowing what happened, I continued the turn slowly and when the wheel reached the max rotation the same light flicker and car restart happened. I tested once again while parked and confirmed that when I turn the wheel completely to the left, the car restarts. My safety was put at risk due to other cars at the stop sign not anticipating my car stopping in the middle of the intersection. No accidents or injuries occured. Based on limited research, it appears this is a defect that has...
Winter 2022 The problem occurred after icy conditions in Texas and ABS, traction control and steering system lights came on in my Gage cluster, since then i have tried many things to fix the issue went as far as replacing the knuckle full assembly with abs speed sensor. Later I search across the internet of honda owners and noticed its a common issue and a very expensive 1, my local honda quoted $2800 for the part. My safety has been compromised on many occasions including brakes locking during wet conditions, my car slipped out of control because of the lack of traction control nearly causing a bad accident. I have been driving extremely cautiously, and during wet conditions driving my other vehicle. Due to the abs/vsa module malfunction there are so many components attached to the system Including tpms, srs, steering system, and including but not limited to ABS, currently...
The contact owns a 2015 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the vehicle lost motive power while driving at slow speeds. There was an abnormal burning odor. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle worked as designed. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving, she became aware of an abnormal burning odor. The power steering became inoperable while driving. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, and the contact was informed that the electric power steering assist had failed, and the electric motor was overactive. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.
My daughter left for to go to ballet and at the end of our driveway the steering locked up, the EPS light came on. Now we have no power steering.
There has been numerous reports on forums such as Reddit and also in most comments on youtube concerning the VSA solenoid valve malfunction and how it is a safety concern on almost all Honda Accord 12-17 . Recently, I have been a victim of this and the repair is so pricy that it is either I take a loan to fix it, or I become a risk to other road users. I would advise that NHTSA issue a recall on all Honda Accord trims (2012-2017) as most vehicles on the road will have this issue and will pose a safety concern to other road users.
The dash lit up with every warning light possible, including the engine light. The Honda dealership said that it was a defective ABS module. I've seen many reports of this same problem online.
As we reported earlier (action number EA21001), the steering suddenly pulled 90 degrees to the left, sending the car into the opposing lane of traffic. This happened with absolutely no warning. Fortunately, no cars were approaching. The vehicle was inspected the Springfield, Pa., Honda service center. On Saturday, July 15, 2023, service representative Rasheed Gary informed us that the diagnostic report affirmed that \that the problem was "intermittent" and that for now Honda could do nothing about it. A copy of the diagnostic report was sent to us, and to Honda headquarters.
The car suddenly lurched to the left as though the steering mechanism had a mind of its own. The vehicle was traveling 25 to 30 mph, not far from her house. This occurred on a trip to the dentist. Luckily, no one was in the opposing lane of traffic and we were able to bring the vehicle to a stop without smashing into anything. This happened without warning. In fact, we had just had the car inspected for a trip check, and our mechanic pronounced it in perfect shape. No dashboard warnings gave any indication of a problem. A call to a Honda dealer's service center was not returned.
I was traveling on Interstate 84 in Ny state at a rate of approximately 65mph when the vehicle suddenly to a sharp turn to the left into the passing lane and then immediately auto corrected with a sharp right turn and took a few long seconds to stabilize. The only thing that prevented this from being a catastrophe was the fact that there was no vehicle in the passing lane and no vehicle immediately behing me. The steering wheel did this...not me. The contact stated that the incident date was May 31, 2023 and not June 1, 2023.
The contact's mother owns a 2015 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while his mother was driving approximately 55 MPH and crossing a highway bridge, the steering failed. The contact stated that his mother stated that the steering wheel independently jerked to the right and when she corrected by turning left, the vehicle jerked violently to the left. The contact stated that his mother lost control of the vehicle and the vehicle made several 360 degree turns before she was able to slow the vehicle and straightened the vehicle out and crossed the bridge. The contact stated that his mother stopped at an off ramp and left the vehicle. The contact returned to pick up the vehicle and observed that the passenger’s side rear tire tread had separated from the side walls. The contact stated that he drove the vehicle back to her residence. The contact stated that the "Power...
I Was driving my vehicle on, standing on the Expressway heading east. The roads were snow and sleek. Out of nowhere. My vehicle start to lose power. And suddenly stopped. I was stuck in the middle of the highway, very scared and feared for my life and I feared for the other peoples lives and their vehicles and hoping no collision occurs. Luckily. I was able to avoid the collision. And a tow truck came to tow my car to the Honda dealership. I had a recall for the drive shaft. A corroded drive shaft broke on which the vehicle was unmovable. My vehicle also roll away when I shifted to parked and I had to set the parking brake. This almost cost me the risk of a crash or injury without prior warning. And the Honda dealership did not correct the problem. I had to tow The vehicle To...
The contact owns a 2015 Honda Accord. The contact stated while his fiancé was driving 65 MPH, the steering wheel jerked to the right independently. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The driver parked on the side of the road and after inspecting the vehicle, continued driving to the destination. The contact also stated the vehicle would steer independently to the right, and the steering wheel would become difficult to turn. The contact stated that the steering wheel had to be manually turned to return to center. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the electric power steering assist system to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.
Driving in rainy conditions, no puddles or standing water observed on road. Driving about 50mph, slight bend in road. The car suddenly veers left and I cannot control the car with steering wheel. The car hits the median, spins completely around and then hits median again and stops. I put the car in park and turned the car off. The airbags on driver’s side windows, steering wheel, and driver’s seat deployed. I did not see any warning lights. I have second degree burns on left hand and left forearm. The car is being looked at by an independent service at this time. I have not contacted manufacturer. If the insurance company does not think the car is totaled, and we fix the car, how do I know this won’t happen again?
The electric steering pump
While driving home from work, taking my usual country highway, suddenly my car took a sharp turn out of nowhere. I did not brake but tried to steer myself back to my lane. The vehicle jerked that direction, then jerked back the other way. I went back and forth four or five times before very carefully slowing down and pulling the car to the side of the road. Thankfully, no other vehicles were beside or coming toward me, or I am sure this would have resulted in an accident. Multiple dash symbols were lit up and remained on after turning off the car and on again. These were Vehicle Stability Assist, Electric Power Steering, Low Tire Pressure, Forward Collision Warning, and Lane Departure Warning. I waited on the side of the road until a tow truck could pick it up. The service center told us after their test drive that...
I was driving at about 30 MPH when the steering wheel froze all of a sudden and Electric Power Steering Malfunction indicator turned on suddenly. The steering became very hard to turn left or right. I was on a road with light traffic so somehow pulled over to the side with manual strength and turned off power. When I turned back the vehicle, it seemed to be ok and I drove for about a mile, only to have the same issue again. The issue seemed to be intermittent which makes it more dangerous. I took the car to a dealer but they could not reproduce the issue and reset the error code. The issue showed up again immediately after leaving dealers place. The car is driven less than 50k miles and about 7 years old. I am the first owner. The power Steering works intermittently, but then again freezes up...
The contact owns a 2015 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. Additionally, the vehicle was pulling to the right. The contact stated that extra effort was needed to turn the steering wheel. The contact pulled off the road, stopped and placed the vehicle in park(P) and turned off and restarted the vehicle. The contact stated that the power steering functionality returned. The contact stated that the steering wheel symbol was illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent but that it had become more frequent. The vehicle was driven to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the contact stated that the vehicle experienced the same failure, and the rack and pinion gears were replaced along with the Electronic Power Assist Steering...
Vehicle steering jerked away from it's intended path and the screen also shut down for a bit. It feels dangerous to try and drive since it my run you into another lane.
The drive shaft light is on and clicking, car is extremely hard to turn in any direction or drive.
The contact owns a 2015 Honda Accord. The contact stated while reversing when he was going to steer the vehicle, the steering wheel locked. The contact stated he continued moving the steering wheel causing the steering to operate normally. The contact stated that the failure occurred several times. The dealer was contacted for diagnosis and an appointment was sheduled. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.
I am original owner of vehicle, 125,000 miles, well maintained, no accidents. I would like to add to other owner complaints of, "Car is turning without input from driver". My sample turns right. I must actively resist the car in order to maintain my lane. There are no MILs illuminated in the instrument panel. I asked dealer to align the vehicle. Dealer claimed, "Cannot be Aligned", "Power Steering Rack is Leaking". I was skeptical of claim because I have "Electric" Power Steering System. I took vehicle to an independent mechanic. They found minor misalignment and successfully corrected that. The mechanic advised me that he found the vehicle is "wanting to turn right on its own". I have documentation from both establishments.
I was coming out of a turn on a local street, going very slow. My vehicle ended up crossing the two lane road and hit a telephone pole. The pole did not fall down. Thankfully, neither myself nor my front passenger were seriously injured. We had on seat belts and the air bags DID NOT deploy. There was no warning of a crash in terms of instruments or trouble with handling. The vehicle motor was shut off because I tried to cut the motor after impact and it was already stalled. The vehicle was declared a total loss. No one to my knowledge did any safety inspections. I have since learned that the crash may be a result of some known defects in the model. I have never received any recall notices in the years of owning the car. I purchased as certified pre-owned in 2018. This is a courtesy notice...
Electric power steering failed to work properly, including turning wheels hard to the left without driver effort; driver could override this through continuous effort to hold wheels straight against steering system pull. Dealer service confirmed the problem; replacement cost was $2837, mostly for parts. Vehicle has less than 28,000 miles. There were no warning lamps, messages, etc. Repair notes that DTC vehicle scanned no stored codes.
While driving on the freeway at 65mph my electric power steering failed. The steering suddenly became very difficult to manage. Fortunately for me, I am a big strong man and was able to control the car. The reason I want to report this is if a person with little strength or disability would not be able to control the car. Especially in a high speed turning situation. I have researched this online and found a few people have had accidents because of the steering failure. The EPS (electric power steering) module failed. Replacing this unit fixed the problem.
Driving on freeway went and applied foot to gas pedal and car goes into limp mode causing in ability to drive as there isnt any power and mil light starts to blink and or will set and if it sets the traction steering and tp light also come on. Have to pull over turn car off and then the car will go this mil if sets is a p0304 code but light will go off.
Power Steering did not work when I went out to my car. I took it to Honda and they replaced the power steering rod While I was driving it power steering failed again. Took it back to Honda - replaced electrical panel While I was driving power steering went out again. Back in shop with Honda and saying needs electrical harness repair. Dangerous to drive as you have no control over steering car while driving
The Electronic Power Steering fails constantly and at random times during various conditions.
While driving, the steering wheel light started to come on and started to make a noise, then the steering wheel itself got stuck and could not turn the vehicle. This we were so close to crashing putting in risk myself and my kids at the time. Since then, I can’t drive it due to the steering wheel locking.
Well it started last year I was driving and out of no where my wheel pulled and got very stiff and I realized I had no power steering. I killed it cranked it and it work then out of no where it happened again and now it works about a three days out the week Im afraid this may cause a accident with me or with me and my family in the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2015 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the power steering failed, and the steering wheel was stiff and difficult to turn. The parking brake failed to disengage when the contact attempted to drive the vehicle. The dealer was made aware of the failure and scheduled an upcoming appointment for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.
I will occasionally lose control of steering on turns, feels as if the steering wheel becomes unresponsive
I was driving in the outer lane on a city street when my car suddenly turned and hit the curb, sending the car down a hill. The brakes didn’t work either and I hit two trees headon. All airbags deployed. An electrical fire started under the hood. Two men came and shut off the power. The car was towed and declared a total loss. I was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The only person that I know of that inspected the car was the claims adjuster. There was no warning that anything was wrong. If anyone had been in the path of the car, I would have been unable to stop or turn.
I was driving the car on the highway and all of sudden lost steering control and caused me to have an accident.

When driving our 2015 Honda Accord, without warning or message, the steering of the car just stopped and our safety was put at risk. The wheel was unresponsive, rendering the car not steerable. It was like the old no power steering days when your tried to turn the steering wheel while in a parked position - not responsive. We couldn't drive the car and had it towed. This happened while driving! The dealer wrote it up as "The power setting light is on" which was not indicative of the loss of steering while the car was being driven. Since the car was towed to the dealership, we did not see the service write-up until a week later. They said the "these things can just happen when electronics are involved" The replaced the Electric Power Steering Rack and Pinion which was over $2,000.00
WHILE REVERSING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE ON 5/10/2021 THE CAR WOULD NOT TURN WHILE THE WHEEL WAS BEING TURNED. INSTEAD OF TURNING, THE CAR WAS DRIVEN STRAIGHT OUT UNTIL THERE WAS ENOUGH ROOM TO GO FORWARD. ONCE IN DRIVE MODE, THERE WERE NO ADDITIONAL STEERING ISSUES.
