Hello, The ignition switch in my vehicle has never worked right. I took the vehicle to a Honda dealership for a airbag recall and was told them about the ignition switch problem and recall. They said they would not do the recall and wanted me to call Honda. I called Honda and was told that I would have to pay for diagnostic fee before they would attempt any repairs for this recall. The Honda case number is 14383356. I refuse to pay a fee for what should be a free recall. If you could please help me with this issue I would certainly appreciate it. The recall information is as follows: NHTSA RECALL NUMBER:05V-025 MFR CAMPAIGN ID:P68 CAMPAIGN DESCRIPTION:99-02 ACCORD IGN INTERLOCK RECALL DATE:01/27/2005 Thank you in advance for all your help.
My 2000 Honda Accord EX V6 has a few issues: 1. Front/rear struts, sway bar bushings, and sway bar links. This has caused my car to fail safety tests for the last 5 years. I have received an itemized estimate for these issues from a mechanic. 2. Electrical. The front instrument panel is not working properly. I can not touch any buttons on the dash or the lights on the panel will go off completely. Both of these are a huge safety issue and it is not safe to drive! No lights or warning of any kind regarding these issues!

THE WIRING THROUGHOUT THE VEHICLE AFFECTS THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR LIGHTS. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT REMAIN ON, WILL CRANK BUT CUTS OFF. HAVE REPLACED 4 SENSORS AND THE ALTERNATOR TWICE. ALL OF THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS ARE EFFECTED. THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE CUT OFF WHILE IN TRAFFIC TRAVELING ON THE EXPRESSWAY.

HEADLAMPS ARE NOT BRIGHT ENOUGH AT NIGHT... SOMETIMES THE CAR WON,T START. I LET IT SIT A WHILE, THEN IT STARTS. THIS IS USUALLY IN THE SUMMER. BEFORE I TURN OFF THE IGNITION, I TURN OFF ALL THE BLOWERS. (AIR) THAT SEEMS TO WORK. THE WINDOWS FOG UP WHEN IT IS HUMID AND THE BLOWERS WON'T CLEAR THEM.

I RECENTLY TOOK MY CAR TO HONDA WITH PROBLEMS ACCELERATING UP A HILL AND SOMETIME ON FLAT LAND AND THEY TOLD ME I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION AT A COST OF $4300. I ASKED TO SPEAK WITH A SERVICE MANAGER BECAUSE I ONLY TAKE MY CAR TO HONDA TO BE SERVICED AND NOW ALL OF A SUNDEN I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. IT IS POSSIBLE TO TURN THE IGNITION KEY TO THE OFF POSITION AND REMOVE THE KEY WITHOUT SHIFTING THE TRANSMISSION TO PARK. *TR

2000 V6 HONDA ACCORD DIED WITHOUT WARNING AT A STOPLIGHT AND SINCE THEN IT HAS BECOME MORE FREQUENT OVER SHORTER AND SHORTER TIME PERIODS/DISTANCES. DURING THE FIRST FEW SEVERAL OCCURRENCES LIKE THIS IT JUST DIED EITHER WHILE STOPPED OR WHILE RUNNING BUT COULD BE RE-STARTED BY PUTTING CAR INTO PARK GEAR AND RE-STARTING. THE SRS LIGHT CAME ON. HONDA TELLS US THAT THE COMPONENT THAT REGULATES THE AIRBAGS (A MINI-COMPUTER IN THE DASH?) HAS FAILED AND MUST BE REPLACED. HONDA ADVISES THAT, UNTIL REPLACED, THE AIRBAGS WILL NOT WORK. BASED ON THE INTERNET RESEARCH I HAVE DONE, THIS APPEARS TO BE A FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM. HONDA WANTS TO CHARGE $1000 TO REPLACE THE UNIT, ALTHOUGH IT APPEARS THAT THE COMPONENT IS AVAILABLE ONLINE FOR ABOUT $325, AND REQUIRES ABOUT AN HOUR OF LABOR TO INSTALL. THIS SEEMS TO US TO BE A PRETTY FUNDAMENTAL SAFETY ISSUE, AND THIS COMPONENT SHOULD BE ENGINEERED TO LAST WELL BEYOND THE ANTICIPATED LIFETIME OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
AIR CONDITIONER STOPPED WORKING AND ALL LIGHTS ON HVAC CONTROL PANEL WENT OUT. A SMALL AMOUNT OF SMOKE FILLED PASSENGER COMPARTMENT AND TEMPERATURE CONTROL KNOB BECAME WARM AND LOOSE. THE PLASTIC TEMPERATURE CONTROL KNOB CAME OFF AND I BURNED MYSELF ON THE METAL TEMPERATURE CONTROL SHAFT WHICH THE KNOB ATTACHES TO. THE METAL TEMPERATURE EASILY EXCEEDED 300 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT. ONCE THE CAR WAS PARKED AND COOLED DOWN I REMOVED THE HVAC CONTROL PANEL FROM THE DASH. THE PLASTIC IS MELTED WHERE THE TEMPERATURE CONTROL KNOB IS AND ON THE INSIDE OF THE CONTROL PANEL. I REMOVED THE CIRCUIT BOARD FROM THE CONTROL PANEL AND IT SMELLS LIKE BURNED ELECTRONICS. THE CIRCUIT BOARD HAS BROWN BURN MARKS AND BUBBLING ON THE BOARD ITSELF. THE ENTIRE HVAC CONTROL UNIT WILL HAVE TO REPLACED AT THE COST OF $200-$300. *TR

I WAS TOLD THAT THE WARRANTY HAS ALREADY EXPIRED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS MORE THAN 10 YEARS OLD EVEN IF THE MILEAGE IS LESS THAN 124,000 MILES. I AM THE SECOND OWNER OF THE VEHICLE WHEN IT WAS PURCHASED FROM A PRIVATE PARTY BACK IN 2004. SINCE THESE MODELS CAME WITHOUT AN AIR CONDITIONING UNIT, I HAD ONE INSTALLED THE SAME YEAR (2004) AT THE CLOSEST DEALERSHIP NEAR OUR PLACE OF RESIDENCE. BECAUSE OF THIS SERVICE, THEY SHOULD HAVE UPDATED THE OWNERSHIP RECORD FOR THIS VEHICLE TO REFLECT MY NAME AS THE NEW OWNER. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT LOCATED SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ONLINE FOR HIS YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V025000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH) AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION TO DETERMINE IF HIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE WAS AFFECTED BY THE RECALL. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH DID IN FACT NEED REPLACING HOWEVER, THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 960,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE DRIVER GEAR LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT HAD TO WAIT TEN TO TWENTY MINUTES TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT MALFUNCTIONED. THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE IGNITION WHERE IT WOULD NOT READ THE KEY TO START THE VEHICLE. THE PRIVATE MECHANIC STATED THAT IT WOULD TAKE TEN ATTEMPTS TO START THE VEHICLE SO THAT THE IGNITION COULD READ THE KEY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 132,346.
IGNITION KEY CAN BE REMOVED WHEN THE SHIFTER IS IN NON-PARK POSITION AND COUPLE OF TIMES WHEN THIS HAPPENED, THE VEHICLE ROLLED AWAY. THIS FAILURE SYMPTOM WAS CAPTURED IN NHTSA 05V-025, BUT, WHEN ASKED, HONDA MOTOR COMPANY RESPONDED THAT THE NHTSA MANDATE DIDN'T INCLUDE THIS VIN NUMBER. THIS SUGGESTS THERE MAY A REASON TO EXPAND THE VIN NUMBERS AFFECTED BY THIS MANDATE. *TR

I AM ABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM MY IGNITION WHEN MY CAR IS IN GEAR. I HAVE CHECKED THE NHTSA DATABASE AND THIS IS A RECALL ISSUE ON 2000 HONDA ACCORDS (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V025000 ). I WENT TO HONDA AND SPOKE WITH THE CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY WILL DO FOR ME AS MY CAR'S VIN NUMBER IS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH THIS RECALL. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE MY CAR'S VIN ADDED TO THE RECALL LIST, AS IT IS EXHIBITING THE RECALL SYMPTOMS AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED. *TR

THE SRS LIGHT CAME ON AND HAS REMAINED ON FOR MANY MONTHS. GOOGLE SHOWS THIS TO BE A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM, WHICH HAS TRIGGERED A VERY WIDE RANGE OF RESPONSES FROM HONDA. THIS HAS BEEN A WONDERFUL CAR GIVEN TIMELY COMPLETION OF ALL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. BUT THE SRS LIGHT PROBLEM, SINCE IT INVOLVES THE SAFETY RESTRAINING SYSTEMS, SHOULD BE GUARANTEED FOR THE LIFE OF THE CAR. BUT, GIVEN THE VARIOUS WAYS PEOPLE WITH THIS ISSUE HAVE BEEN TREATED, I AM RELUCTANT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO HONDA. IT MAY ONLY REQUIRE A RESET FOR THE LIGHT, WHICH SHOULD COST NOTHING. THE ABOVE INFORMATION WAS FROM THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT, HOWEVER THIS PROBLEM HAS EXISTED FOR SEVERAL YEARS. MY WIFE HAS TOLD ME ABOUT THE PROBLEM WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH THAT ALLOWS THIS CAR TO HAVE THE KEYS REMOVED WHILE THE CAR IS IN DRIVE AND THE ENGINE IS OFF (NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PEO5002).
