Consumer Description

THE SRS LIGHT CAME ON. HONDA TELLS US THAT THE COMPONENT THAT REGULATES THE AIRBAGS (A MINI-COMPUTER IN THE DASH?) HAS FAILED AND MUST BE REPLACED. HONDA ADVISES THAT, UNTIL REPLACED, THE AIRBAGS WILL NOT WORK. BASED ON THE INTERNET RESEARCH I HAVE DONE, THIS APPEARS TO BE A FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM. HONDA WANTS TO CHARGE $1000 TO REPLACE THE UNIT, ALTHOUGH IT APPEARS THAT THE COMPONENT IS AVAILABLE ONLINE FOR ABOUT $325, AND REQUIRES ABOUT AN HOUR OF LABOR TO INSTALL. THIS SEEMS TO US TO BE A PRETTY FUNDAMENTAL SAFETY ISSUE, AND THIS COMPONENT SHOULD BE ENGINEERED TO LAST WELL BEYOND THE ANTICIPATED LIFETIME OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
