2014 GMC SIERRA 1500 Engine Problems

The vehicle experienced complete lifter failure on cylinder number 4 bending the intake valve push rod thus shutting down the cylinder. The vehicle has 167,000 miles and is well maintained. The vehicle gave no warning signs that there was a problem. Simply driving down the road, normal engine temperature, normal oil pressure, the check engine light comes on at the same time the engine begins to mis-fire. The engine has 160,000 miles and just driving the camshaft and the lifters went out during normal driving. It showed no problems before hand. I’ve heard from multiple people that this is a big issue with the 6.2l gmc Sierra engines. The mechanic also stated it’s there biggest problem. The repair cost are $4,000 - $6000 dollars and the have to pull the whole engine and just fixing those two things. The cost of an engine is $7000 for a used with 100,000 miles and to me it would just happen again in around 60,000 miles or less. For a new engine non oem so an off brand it would cost $8,00 - $10,000 just for the engine. Almost as much as the truck cost not including the labor. This is completely unacceptable cost for repair for a common problem with this truck.

I know this is a well known issue with these trucks. Have had issues with power steering not working at low speeds which they claim it’s do to low voltage. This has happened numerous times and then on May 3rd I went to back into my driveway off a busy state route with hills on each end of the road. Put my hazard lights on let three vehicles pass and then I turned the wheel and gave it gas soon as the truck got into the middle of the road it shut off. From digging on the internet, I found out the problem is due to one or more rusty/defective connection to ground which stops current from flowing and therefore stalls the vehicle and turns everything off. When the truck stalls, power steering and power assisted breaks are not available and this makes the truck very difficult to guide/stop for most people, making it a significant safety risk to occupants as well as others as the likelyhood of a collision increases significantly. My lifters bent and my valves collapsed. I have had the vehicle repaired twice. No engine light warning. Also in Nov of 2022 oil is leaking into my cylinders. Common problem on several GM forums.

Going under 15mph, applying the brake causes the pedal to become stiff and lock up and not work. This has caused me to almost hit someone in traffic. the catalytic converter failed at 110,000 miles and the brake boost hydraulics failed to work properly at 115,000. The electronic stability control started acting erratically at 115,000 miles also.

My truck recently had an engine lifter fail when pulling out onto a very busy road. When I accelerated hard into traffic my check engine came on and I suddenly lost most of the engine power and it went into limp mode. I was almost rear ended when my truck nearly came to a stop. I was told it is a defective/poor design of the cylinder deactivation system from the dealer. Ther is no fix but to replace with the same lifter part number which was done and it also failed again 4 days later in a similar situation turning onto a road into traffic. My truck is now back in the shop to have lifters replaced twice in one weeks time.

AFM lifters are failing at a high rate. Had lifters replaced for $3k a year an half ago at 125k miles and they failed again at 149k miles just recently The problem is getting worse with the newer models

From time to time the vehicles power system will surge, blink, and generally act up. The priblem is intermittent. The check engine light will come in then go off, the engine has completely cut off several times while driving, the transmission acts up, radio will turn off, 120v outlet will turn off, occasionally the vehicle will fun for 5-15 seconds after being turned off and then sputter off. And 95% of the time the truck is absolutely fine.

YOU CAN TELL IT IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS START DEEMING WHEN TAPPING THE BRAKES OR USING THE TURN SIGNAL. IT USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN THE TRUCK IS IN MOTION. IT HAS HAPPENED IN ALL TEMPERATURES. AFTER IT HAPPENS THE CONSOLE STATES "STABLITRAK IS DISABLED".

VEHICLE RADIATOR HAS LEAK AT 86K MILES. THERE IS KNOWN ISSUE W/RADIATOR AND THERMOSTAT IN THIS TRUCK LEADING TO TSB 15829 . MY TRUCK HAS THE SAME ENGINE/DRIVE-TRAIN/COOLING SYSTEM, BUT THE YEAR OF THE TSB ONLY APPLIES TO LD MODELS. GMC WILL NOT COVER REPAIR COSTS. GMC DEALER QUOTED ME $2900 FOR REPAIR.

BEGAN RUNNING ROUGH BAD LIFTERS. ALSO INTERIOR IS BEGINNING TO RUST. HHEADLIGHTS ARE TERRIBLE IT AKA NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE.

I HAVE TAKEN TO THE DEALER LIKE 6 TIMES AND THEY HAVEN'T FOUND THE PROBLEM. THEY HAVE CHANGE SOME WIRES FROM THE BATTERY. THEY HAVE REPROGRAM THE SOFTWARE AND NOTHING I STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THE TRUCK DIES AT ANY MOMENT. THE TRUCK WILL COMPLETELY TURN OFF, LOSS OF ELECTRICAL, POWER STEERING, BRAKING - EVERYTHING. FIRST TIME WAS ON HIGHWAY30MPH IN TRAFFIC 2ND TIME HIGHWAY GOING 45-50 IN TRAFFIC & TODAY IN PARKING LOT, TURNING IN TO DROPPOFF LANE AN CHILDS SCHOOL. NO STEARING AND HIT THE CURB.

ON 6/18/18, WHILE TRAVELLING ON A HIGHWAY AT 40 MILES AN HOUR AND APPROACHING A RED LIGHT, I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE ENTIRE CAR SHUT DOWN, INCLUDING THE POWER STEERING, POWER BRAKES, AND ENGINE. I HAD TO PLACE THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL AND TURN IT BACK ON IN ORDER TO BRAKE IN TIME.

THE DAY I RETRIEVED MY TRUCK FROM THE ELECTRICAL SHOP, I STOPPED IN WALMART FOR GROCERIES. MY KEY FOB WOULD NOT LOCK OR UNLOCK MY DOORS.
