During a turn in the parking lot my vehicle would not allow me to turn something with traction control came up on the screen. The past few days the car got stuck at 0 rpms while driving and did not feel I had adequate power and other times has stalled.
I am the original owner of a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 (VIN: [XXX] ) and began experiencing serious mechanical and electrical issues while the vehicle was still under warranty around 40,000 miles. These included engine RPM fluctuations at idle, vibrations under acceleration above 65 MPH, and intermittent misfiring — all symptoms that are now believed to be early indicators of defective lifters or valve train components. I also experienced repeated electrical failures including a rear turn signal malfunction due to melting/corroded taillight sockets, a thumping rear-end noise, differential knocking, and body panel issues (hood lifting at highway speeds). These were reported multiple times to authorized GMC dealers (Mike Haggerty GMC and Rizza GMC), but I was told there was no issue or no repairs were made. GM refused to assist when I escalated the issue in 2017 via a detailed email, despite all problems occurring within the warranty period. I’m...
While driving, my wife and I heard a bang, and when she went to turn her head, she noticed that the vehicle was smoking from rear defroster, and the back windshield had smashed. we immediately pulled over and the vehicle did not stop smoking until we turned off the rear defroster. This put our safety at risk as the entire vehicle could’ve caught fire. When we went to check to see if it had been recalled, Our vehicle did not have any open recalls But we found that there were many other GMC Sierra trucks with this issue. We contacted our local dealer who confirmed that he had seen this happen to other GMC Sierra trucks. There was no warning light Or other indicator that this was going to happen. I am experiencing episodic loss of power steering assist without warning. This lasts for several seconds then power steering is restored. "StabiliTrak” message may be displayed during the event. On one occasion my radio also went off when my power steering failed. On one occasion my vehicle died shortly after losing power steering which almost resulted in me having a motor vehicle accident. I reported the problem to the GMC dealership and have scheduled the next available appointment to have it serviced.
The vehicle lost ALL power, completely shut off with no warning while driving. There were no warnings or anything. Was stuck for about 5 minutes and had to let cars go around me (no power and no warning lights, so could not even use hazard lights). I did some reading and it people have said this could be a problem with negative battery cable needs to replaced. The vehicle started about 5 minutes later with no issues and had to reset clock and date.
The high and low beams quit working while driving at night. This caused safety issue for myself and other drivers. Fuses good and bulbs good. Have seen multiple listings online about the same thing happening to other owners.
Electrical glitches happen at both, low speeds and while on the roadway. My steering wheel tightens up and I get a message on the dashboard “Stabilitrak” and another one “assisted steering reduced, drive with care”. My vehicle even shut off on me after pulling in to a parking space after turning steering wheel completely to one side
I know this is a well known issue with these trucks. Have had issues with power steering not working at low speeds which they claim it’s do to low voltage. This has happened numerous times and then on May 3rd I went to back into my driveway off a busy state route with hills on each end of the road. Put my hazard lights on let three vehicles pass and then I turned the wheel and gave it gas soon as the truck got into the middle of the road it shut off. Everything stopped working no hazard lights for about 10seconds and then I had to put the truck into park turn ignition key off and then back on to restart the truck. Back up lights and Tail light problems My Back up lights turn on when the headlights are turned on and do not shut off unless the headlights are off. Also, recently, the rear tail lights were burning out early and would last only two weeks. The source of the problem seems to be in the fuse box. There is no short in the system. It appears to be in the fuse box of the 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. Bulbs were replaced and burned out quickly. Replacement parts are expensive and this problem exists on other Chevrolet and GMC trucks.
At slow speeds, multiple times, I have had the truck completely have an electrical failure and the engine shut off. I have replaced the negative battery cable and ensured all connections are good. This has happened on streets when turning and in parking lots. When this happens all of the screens in the truck flicker and the service stabilitrack light comes on and then everything goes out, to include the engine. Myself, my family, and other drivers have been out at risk when the truck completely shuts off on a street. The dealership has not been able to give me an answer. There are many forums online where the 2014-2018 year models of this and similar GM vehicles have had the same problem. We need a specific fix for this before someone gets seriously injured or killed.
Steering will drop out / skip. Electical items have been an issue since I purcased this truck new. Dealer could never find why the wipers trigger randomly when truck is turned on. Truck randomy dies overnight.
My truck shuts off in the middle of driving. Completely losing power to anything electric. I can not unlock or lock the door, the windows, hazard lights, steer the wheel to help me move. I can’t do anything. I have almost crashed.

Today I was driving on a residential road and my truck completely stopped while driving. My wheel locked up and I was unable to steer and almost hit another car. This has also happened a few weeks ago while driving on the highway at 70 miles per hour. My vehicle shuts off, I turn the key back and then restart it and I get the following 2 messages: 2 Keys programmed, and Open then close driver window. This is very dangerous and apparently a major problem with other vehicles as I have found the below additional details. This puts my family and others at major risk. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk?: The truck just stalls and dies without warning, all lights go off inside and outside and all power is lost. From digging on the internet, I found out the problem is due to one or more rusty/defective connection to ground which stops current from flowing and therefore stalls the vehicle and turns everything off. When the truck stalls, power steering and power assisted breaks are not available and this makes the truck very difficult to guide/stop for most people, making it a significant safety risk to occupants as well as others as the likelyhood of a collision increases significantly. Whenever driving I get a message stating that I need to service my trailer brake system. This is most likely due to cheap wiring installed by the manufacture. This has been going on for over a couple of months. Just recently, I was making a slow turn and my vehicle shut off on me and I lost control of my brakes and steering and all power to the vehicle which is a huge safety concern and I am unsure if they are related or not
While driving, the vehicle will briefly shut down and lose all engine and electrical power. The GMC dealer was alerted and I was advised to the battery cable that were burned out and the starter shield.
Air bags didn't deploy on 2 separate incidences and brakes went out last incident

The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 10 - 15 MPH with the rear defroster activated on the rear powered sliding window, there was a sizzling sound, and started smelling smoke inside the vehicle. The contact pulled over, stopped, exited the vehicle, started inspecting inside the rear of the vehicle; and saw smoke on the driver’s side rear of the vehicle, between the window and the seatback. While the contact was bent over trying to ascertain where the smoke was coming from, the driver’s side rear window exploded. The contact poured water on the window to put out the smoke. During the explosion the contact sustained a mild concussion and severe earache that lasted for two days; however, medical attention was not needed. When turning 30 mph and under the eps (power steering) cuts out randomly for a second or less and jerks the wheel only causing a slight swerve so far but has me worried and I'll be paying for the software update out of pocket since my truck isn't in the recall even though other 2014 sierras are recalled.
After driving vehicle for about 40 mins from last parked location, i slowed to take a left hand turn, engaged blinker, accelerated while proceeding to turn left. the steering wheel jerked to the Right and sounded an audible "ding" and door locks engaged. upon driving an additional estimated 100 feet, the entire system shut down. (i happened to be turning into a parking lot where there was a car parts store in town) no power at all, nothing on the display panel, all doors remained locked and i was locked inside the vehicle. i placed the gear shift into Park and tried unlocking the doors, which would not unlock due to no power. taking the key out of the ignition and reinserting it and tried to start did nothing. after a few more failed attempts, the interior lights and display screen flashed (glitchy blinking) and after a few more attempts,...
I’m having a trail break system warning every few minutes. It is constant and beeps consistently. To the point where I almost cannot drive it. It won’t go away after a little while and is constantly turning on and off. This just recently occurred and hasn’t stopped since. Likewise there was no other indication of this happening till about two days ago. It’s very distracting and persistent to the point where I feel like I can’t even drive with it on.
THE TRUCK JUST SHUT OFF ALL ELECTRICAL AND DASH CONTROLS AS I WENT TO TURN INTO MY DRIVEWAY. ITS DONE IT TO ME TWICE SO FAR IN THE LAST 3 WEEKS. . NO BRAKES AND NO POWER STEERING.
Driving 5 mph, error came on and truck shut off completely while still driving, I was able to start it, drove to my destination, about 10 miles away. Parked and turned off truck, came back, the truck was completely dead. replaced the battery and was fine for a month. Yesterday while pulling up to destination on low gear going slow error showed up, the engine revved high then shut down completely. EPS recall and no dates to service yet.
While fixing an exhaust leak on this vehicle, the grounding cable that attaches to the engine block appeared to be chafed, partially crushed, and exposing some copper. The grounding cable runs down the firewall of the passenger side of the vehicle, runs briefly along the frame rail, and passes underneath the exhaust manifold. There is a potential for the cable to not properly ground over time, causing unknown issues. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer or dealer as this vehicle is outside of bumper-to-bumper warranty. A support case was opened with GM, but as an individual, they will not allow me to report the issue with pictures. They require the dealer to be the reporter.
When you push on the break the vehicle’s power shuts down. Yes it is available for inspection upon request. When steering wheel is turned it dies. After this happens stabilizer light comes on and power steering assist comes on. No inspection has been done called dealership and they said the recall from 2014 had already been done. This is a very serious issue when driving in traffic and I do not want to be in or cause an accident
From time to time the vehicles power system will surge, blink, and generally act up. The priblem is intermittent. The check engine light will come in then go off, the engine has completely cut off several times while driving, the transmission acts up, radio will turn off, 120v outlet will turn off, occasionally the vehicle will fun for 5-15 seconds after being turned off and then sputter off. And 95% of the time the truck is absolutely fine.
I had made a appointment to get the recalls resolved at the dealership and I made appointment and everything and they call to confirm thru out the week and then when I showed up they said they couldn’t fix it cause it was a branded title and they didn’t even offer me any other way of fixing it .
While passing a vehicle I lost all electrical power which in turn caused the vehicle to lose power. This same thing has happened several times at low speeds. I have the vehicle scheduled for July 2 to get looked at. The engined revved extremly high and it seemed like the transmission went into neutral. It then restarted. I had to roll the driver's window down and got a stabili Trak light that came on after the incident.
Vehicle started having random electrical problems including dropping out of cruise when signaling a lane change, not starting due to antitheft system error, stabltrak error message, message to raise & lower drivers side window. Ultimately the engine, steering & brakes failed, fortunately at low speed, and we coasted to a stop after the truck ran over a curb. Our safety was at risk as we could have crashed into something. Others safety was at risk as we could have ended up in their vehicle path. The dealer replaced some ground wires, at great expense, and said that usually fixes it. Which tells me that this is a known problem. Can't believe that it isn't a safety recall!

ON MORE RARE OCCASIONS, BUT STILL NUMEROUS, THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURS WHEN BRAKING AT HIGHER SPEEDS WITHOUT TURNING. THE TRUCK DASH LIGHTS, MEDIA SCREEN AND HEADLIGHTS ALL DIM OR FLICKER AS A TICKING OR POPPING NOISE IS HEARD BEHIND THE DASH MUCH LIKE AN ARCHING ELECTRICAL WIRE. MOST OF THE TIME WHEN THESE SCENARIOS HAPPEN THE DISPLAY ON THE DRIVERS DISPLAY SCREEN READS STABILTRAK WARNING. ALSO WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURS WHILE TURNING AND BRAKING AT LOW SPEEDS THE TRUCK WILL COMPLETELY LOSE POWER AND POWER STEERING AS WELL AS ASSISTED BRAKING. ONCE THE TRUCK COMES TO A STOP THE IGNITION, AND ALL ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS ARE COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE LIKE THE BATTERY IS DEAD. IN ORDER TO START THE TRUCK AGAIN, I HAVE TO GET OUT OF THE TRUCK, OPEN THE ENGINE HOOD AND OSCILLATE...
AFTER ABOUT 5-10 MINUTES OF DRIVING THERE WAS A 'BURNING PLASTIC' SMELL AND ABOUT 1-2 MINUTES AFTER THAT A LOUD BANG (ALMOST LIKE A GUNSHOT) AFTER PULLING OVER, I LOOKED AROUND TO FIND THE LEFT SIDE OF THE BACK WINDOW WAS BLOWN OUT. LONG STORY SHORT, I CALLED THE DEALER TO SET UP SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THEY PERFORMED THE RECALL FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM ON MY GMC.....I DON'T THINK IT WAS EITHER DONE OR THE FIX DIDN'T SOLVE IT. I CAN PROVIDE PICTURES TOMORROW.....AND I WAS DRIVING DOWN A CITY STREET AND IN MOTION - THE STREET WAS NOT BUMPY, IN FACT IT WAS SNOW COVERED. I THINK THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A FIRE HAZARD JUDGING BY THE HORRIFIC SMELL.
2014 GMC SIERRA 1500 4WD ~75K MILES. SOMETIMES WHEN I ROLL UP MY WINDOWS OR USE MY BLINKER AND IT SHUTS OFF CRUISE CONTROL (HWY). AND SOMETIMES WHEN I HIT MY BREAKS MY HEADLIGHTS WILL DIM (HWY, CITY STREETS, PARKING LOTS). WHEN I'M TURNING SLOWLY (IN PARKING LOTS) THE STEELING WILL OCCASIONALLY LOCK UP AND ONCE IT LOST POWER ENTIRELY. MY BATTERY WAS TESTED AT BIGO AND SAID IT WAS FINE. I'VE SEEN THIS ONLINE A LOT FOR THIS TRUCK AND SIMILAR YEARS, BUT NO ONE SEEMS TO HAVE A RESOLUTION. WITH SO MANY INCIDENTS I'M SHOCKED THEY DON'T HAVE A FIX OR ANY IDEA WHAT IS WRONG.
INTERMITTENTLY GETTING "SERVICE STABILITRAK" "ELECTRONIC STEERING ASSIST POWER REDUCED" MESSAGES WHILE TURNING LEFT AT SPEEDS 30MPH OR LESS. EACH TIME I RECEIVE THIS MESSAGE THE STEERING WHEEL BECOMES VERY HARD TO TURN AND JERKS. SEVERAL TIMES THE VEHICLE HAS DIED BUT RESTARTED ITSELF. ON 2 OCCASIONS ( THANKFULLY IN A PARKING LOT AWAY FROM TRAFFIC) THE VEHICLE DIED AFTER THESE MESSAGES AND WOULD NOT RESTART, NO SYSTEMS WOULD RESPOND TO TURNING THE KEY FOR SEVERAL CYCLES. BOTH TIMES THIS HAS HAPPENED I ALSO RECEIVED AN ANTI-THEFT MESSAGE AS WELL. I KNOW THERE IS A RECALL ISSUED FOR THIS BUT GM IS NOT LISTING MY VIN AS AN AFFECTED VEHICLE. THIS IS A POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED
THE TRUCK SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING WHICH DISABLES THE POWER STEERING, ENGINE AND POWER BRAKING. THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS SEEMS TO REBOOT AND TURN BACK ON AFTER A SECOND OR TWO. THIS ALSO HAPPENS OCCASIONALLY WHILE DRIVING AT SLOWER SPEEDS AND TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL OR AFTER HITTING THE TURN SIGNAL. I HAVE HAD THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND ENGINE SHUT OFF WHILE DOING 50MPH ON THE HIGH JUST BECAUSE I TURNED MY TURN SIGNAL ON. THIS HAPPENS EVERY 4 WEEKS OR SO. YOU CAN TELL IT IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS START DEEMING WHEN TAPPING THE BRAKES OR USING THE TURN SIGNAL. IT USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN THE TRUCK IS IN MOTION. IT HAS HAPPENED IN ALL TEMPERATURES. AFTER IT HAPPENS THE CONSOLE STATES "STABLITRAK IS DISABLED".
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN IT WAS IF MY TRANSMISSION DISENGAGED AND MY CAR LOST POWER. IT THEN AUTOMATICALLY CAME BACK ON AND THE 'SERVICE STABILITRAK' LIGHTS CAME ON. I NEARLY AVOIDED AN ACCIDENT AND WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF ONTO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD.
THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AND TOOK A TURN THE DASHBOARD CHIMED AND SHOWED A "SERVICE STABILITRAK", AND REDCUTION IN POWER STEERING, AND HVAC WENT OFF AND CAME BACK ON AND I LOST POWER STEERING. EVERYTHING FLASHED AND FLICKERED. UPON FURTHER ASSESSMENT AT MY HOUSE STATIONARY TURNING THE WHEEL REACTIVATED THE PROBLEMS AND IT WAS ALSO NOTICED THAT THE LIGHTS WOULD FLICKER AND GO DIM ALONG WITH THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS. LOOKED UP SOME RECALLS AND SAW SOME RECALLS ON 2014 GMC SIERRA WITH LOSS IN POWER STEERING, HOWEVER MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THAT. I HAVE A BRAKE RECALL THAT I WILL BE SERVICING AND HOPEFULLY THAT MIGHT SOLVE THIS DANGEROUS ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.
