WHEN I STARTED MY CAR THE STEERING WHEEL WAS HARD TO TURN. I GOT A WARNING ON THE DASH THAT SAID STEERING ASSIST FAULT. THIS IS CRAZY! THE CAR ONLY HAS 63000 MILES ON IT. PLEASE HAVE FORD INCLUDE THESE FOCUS CARS IN THE SAFETY RECALL ALSO. THIS FAILURE WHILE DRIVING COULD KILL PEOPLE.
MY FORD FOCUS ST 2013 SUDDENLY FAILED AND SHOWED THE MESSAGE "STEERING ASSIST FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED". STEERING WHEEL GOT VERY HEAVY AND NOT POSSIBLE TO DRIVE THE CAR TO THE DEALER. THERE WERE NOT PREVIOUS WARNINGS, A NOISE OR FEELING OF IT WAS NOT WORKING CORRECTLY, IT JUST HAPPENED FROM NIGHT TO MORNING WHEN PARKED IN MY GARAGE. I M LOCATED IN MEXICO BUT THIS INFO MAY HELP AND I M WILLING TO HELP.
I'VE HAD THE CLUTCH AND TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE REPLACED TWICE. THE CAR STILL DOESN'T DRIVE PROPERLY. MY CAR LOCKS, AUXILIARY, AC NOBS NEED TWEAKING TO WORK. THE BRAKE LIGHTS CONSTANTLY GO OUT. WHEN I'M ON AN INCLINE THE BRAKE ALERT COMES ON. AND NOW THERE IS A POWER STEERING ISSUE. THE STEERING WHEEL IS COMPLETELY LOCKED UP AND I'M UNABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE.
TAKATA RECALL- I'M HAVING A PROBLEM WITH MY STEERING. ONE AFTERNOON I STARTED TO CAR AND NOTICED THAT MY STEERING WHEEL WAS STUCK. AFTER A WHILE I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND LET IT SIT THEN STARTED IT AGAIN AND THE PROBLEM WAS GONE. THE NEXT DAY I ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE THE CAR AND COULDN'T BECAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL WAS HARD TO TURN. THE FORD DEALERSHIP IS TELLING ME TO PAY AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF MONEY FOR THE ISSUE. I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT DO I NEED TO DO FROM HERE.
CAR STARTED SHIFTING FUNNY SO I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALER THEY SAID SOMETHING ELECTRONIC ON THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED CHANGED SO THEY DID SOMETHING DID NOT CHARGE ME FOR ANYTHING BUT IT'S STILL SHIFTS DIFFERENTLY THEY SAID IT HAD TO GET USED TO THE WAY I WAS DRIVING ONE MONTH LATER MY STEERING UNIT WENT OUT I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALER THEY PUT IT ON THE MACHINE THE THE PERSON I TALK TO ON THE PHONE SAID IT NEEDED A WHOLE NEW STEERING COLUMN AND IT WAS $2,100 AND AT THAT TIME THEY WOULD READJUST THE MODULE ON THE STEERING FOR FREE I SAID NO I DID NOT HAVE $2,100 SO I HAD TO PAY THE $99 TO HAVE IT PUT ON THE MACHINE AND WHEN I GOT THE PAPERWORK IT SAID NOTHING ABOUT A STEERING COLUMN IT ONLY SAID I DECLINED MODULE PROGRAMMING AND THAT COST...
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 35 WHEN A STEERING FAILURE WARNING POPPED UP ON THE SCREEN WE DROVE A SHORT DISTANCE TO A GAS STATION BY THEN THE POWER STEERING WAS COMPLETELY GONE. WE DID LEAVE THE GAS STATION JUST TRYING TO LIMP IT HOME NOT FAR OUT OF THE GAS STATION THE STEERING COMPLETELY LOCKS UP. HAD IT TOWED TO THE CLOSEST FORD DEALER. $1900 TO HAVE THE STEERING MODULE REPLACED. I HAD JUST HAD THE CAR IN A MONTH AGO BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. THAT WAS ON RECALL SO NO COST. I'LL TELL YA I FEEL PUNCHED IN THE STOMACH AND CANT BELIEVE FORD DOES NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ALL THEIR FAULTY PARTS. LAUNCHING A COMPLAINT WITH FORD. STEERING QUIT COMPLETELY. VERY VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH. ALMOST HIT A TELEPHONE POLE.
(1) GOOGLE FORD TRANSMISSION SETTLEMENT. INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS PROBLEM WITH DESIGN. THAT'S THE BIGGEST PROBLEM AND ALTHOUGH I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALER AND THEY "FIXED" IT I HAVE NO FAITH. (2) I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A DEALER THIS MORNING FOR ELECTRONIC POWER ASSIST FAILURE. LOST STEERING WHILE DRIVING. GOOGLED THAT AND FOUND OUT ABOUT THE MASSIVE PROBLEMS WITH THIS ISSUE. CONTACTED FORD AND THEY SAID VIN DOESN'T SHOW IT AS A RECALL. I'M ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED WITH THE LEVEL OF DECEIT BY FORD.
MY POWER STEERING ASSIST MODULE WAS FAILING INTERMITTENTLY THROUGH OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2016. FINALLY IN DECEMBER 2016 IT DECIDED TO FAIL COMPLETELY. LUCKILY I WASN'T ON THE ROAD, IT FAILED AFTER PARKING THE CAR AND HAS BEEN UNDRIVABLE EVER SINCE. I CAN START IT, ROLL IT FORWARDS AND BACK IN A STRAIGHT LINE, BUT THE STEERING IS LOCKED AND WON'T BUDGE. I HAVE A LITTLE OVER 39000 MILES ON IT AND IS JUST OUT OF WARRANTY BECAUSE OF THAT.
WHILE PULLING OUT OF MY GARAGE I RECEIVED A "STEERING ASSIST FAULT" NOTIFICATION ON MY DASHBOARD. I HAD TO MISS ANOTHER DAY OF WORK FOR THIS ISSUE. I SAY ANOTHER BECAUSE I HAVE HAD MY VEHICLE IN THE SHOP OVER 20 TIMES FOR OTHERS ISSUES ON TOP OF THIS. I PURCHASED MY FOCUS IN 2013 BRAND NEW AND 4 YEARS LATER MY STEERING GEAR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED? SINCE I'M AT 70,000 MILES I'M WELL PAST ANY COVERAGE AND THEY WANT ME TO SHELL OUT 1600 DOLLARS TO REPLACE IT. I'VE HAD NOTHING BUT ISSUES WITH THIS CAR SINCE DRIVING OFF THE LOT (TRANSMISSION, CLUTCH, SEAL LEAKS) AND THIS IS JUST ANOTHER NOTCH ON MY FORD VEHICLE OWNER BELT!! NOT HAPPY AT ALL WITH THIS PURCHASE AND WILL NEVER PURCHASE A FORD VEHICLE AGAIN!
RECEIVED A "STEERING ASSISTANCE FAULT" WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASH DISPLAY AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE WHICH RESULTED IN NOT BEING ABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL WITHOUT EXTREME EFFORT.. AFTER TURNING OFF THE CAR, IT RESET AND BEGAN FUNCTIONING. APPROXIMATELY A WEEK LATER IT HAPPENED ONCE MORE AFTER STARTING THE CAR, AND ONCE AGAIN IT RESET AND WAS DRIVABLE. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS CONDITION AND POSSIBLY DEADLY IF NOT CORRECTED. I DID RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE MANY, MANY INSTANCES OF THE SAME ISSUE WITH OTHER FORD PRODUCTS SUCH AS FUSIONS, EXPLORERS, LINCOLNS AND MANY OTHERS THAT DID HAVE A RECALL. WHY HAS THE FOCUS NOT BEEN RECALLED WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AND EXPEDITED TO MAKE THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY REPAIRS AT THEIR COST AND A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED TO SAVE LIVES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. THE CONTACT TURNED THE IGNITION OFF AND BACK ON, AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE. THE DEALER (CROWN FORD, 555 CYPRESS AVE, REDDING, CA 96001) DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND 'ASSISTED STEERING FAILURE' NOTICE CAME UP ON DASHBOARD
MY SON WAS DRIVING OUR 2013 FORD FOCUS ON A CITY STREET AND THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. THANK GOODNESS HE OR NO ONE ELSE WAS NOT INJURED AND WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER THE CAR HOME. TURNS OUT THE POWER STEERING MODULE WENT OUT. THIS SEEMS TO BE AN OCCURRING PROBLEM IN PRIOR YEAR MODELS AND HAD RECALLS ON THEM. HOWEVER, THE 2013 MODEL DID NOT HAVE A RECALL AND WE HAD TO SHELL OUT OVER $1700 FOR REPAIRS OUT OF OUR OWN POCKET.
UPON BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, I ATTEMPTED TO TURN MY STEERING WHEEL TO DIRECT MY VEHICLE IN THE DIRECTION OF TRAFFIC. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT EASILY TURN, AND A GRINDING NOISE COULD BE HEARD INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. AS I PULLED FORWARD THE STEERING WOULD STICK, RESISTING CHANGES IN DIRECTION, THEN BREAKING LOOSE ON OVERCORRECTING.
POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED AND SERVICE IS REQUIRED WARNING LIGHT CAME ON DURING START UP. TURNING WHEEL WAS VERY DIFFICULT. VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 52,749 MILES
WARNING THAT POWER STEERING ASSIST HAS FAILED AND SERVICE IS REQUIRED. COULDN'T TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. HAPPENED WHEN STARTING THE CAR. TURNED CAR OFF AND BACK ON. NO MESSAGE AND STEERING WAS WORKING. I MANAGED TO DRIVE HOME BUT NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE IT.
POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE INDICATED ON INSTRUMENT PANEL AND FULL LOSS OF ANY STEERING ASSIST. STEERING REQUIRES/REQUIRED LOTS OF MUSCLE TO MAINTAIN ANY FORM OF ACTIVE DRIVER INTENDED STEERING CHANGES. RESULTED IN NO INJURY, BUT VERY FRIGHTENING OCCURRENCE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. WILL TAKE VEHICLE TO DEALER IN THE MORNING, VEHICLE MILEAGE IS 90K. A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH SHOWS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR 2013 FORD FOCUS, SO WHY NO RECALL?
BACKING OUT OF DRIVEWAY, STEERING BECAME VERY DIFFICULT, THE POWER STEERING DEFAULT LIGHT CAME ON. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE IN THE PAST. MY CAR HAS 80,000 MILES ON IT. I AM MORE THAN TICKED OFF BECAUSE THIS IS NOT THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAVE HAD WITH THIS CAR. LAST YEAR IT WAS MY TRANSMISSION COMPUTER THAT WENT OUT. THERE WAS A RECALL AND IT WAS REPAIRED, BUT I AM STILL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION PERFORMANCE. THEY SAY BUY AMERICAN MADE, BUT I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD OF ANY KIND.
COUPLE WEEKS AGO I GOT INTO MY CAR TO COME TO WORK AND I COULD NOT TURN THE WHEEL. SO I LOOKED DOWN AND I SAW "STEERING ASSIST FAULT - SERVICE REQUESTED". UNTIL THIS DAY MY FIANCE AND I HAVE ADJUSTED OUR SCHEDULES TEMPORARILY SO THAT HE CAN DRIVE ME TO WORK. I DON'T HAVE THE STRENGTH TO EVEN TURN THE WHEEL.
I DROVE MY CAR TO PICK MY GRANDSON UP CAME PARKED CAR WENT TO GET BACK IN IT TO LEAVE STEERING ASSIST FAILURE FLASHED ON AND I HAD A HARD TIME STEERING IT AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP SAID THE STEERING IS ALL MESSED UP AND IT'S GOING TO COST OVER 2000 TO FIX.IVE HAD THIS CAR FOR 4 MONTHS AND THIS MAKES THE SECOND TIME IT'S BEEN IN THE GARAGE. FIRST TIME THE KEY FELL APART. NOW THE STEERING IS GONE.

FORTUNATELY, WE WERE ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND FIND A SAFE PLACE TO STOP AND FORTUNATELY RESET THE POWER ASSIST WITHOUT ANYONE BEING INJURED OR KILLED. RESTARTING VEHICLE RESET THE PS ASSIST MODULE FOR A FEW MONTHS BUT THE SYSTEM IS NOW FULLY NONWORKING. THE STEERING GOES OUT WHENEVER IT DESIRES. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP WITH A POSSIBLE RACK-AND-PINION REPLACEMENT OR A STEERING COLUMN REPLACEMENT ONCE THE PROBLEM IS FULLY DIAGNOSED. THIS WILL ALSO REQUIRE A VEHICLE ALIGNMENT AND POSSIBLE COMPUTER RESET AND RE-FLASH ACCORDING TO THE SHOP. COST WILL BE AT LEAST $2500. THANKS FORD FOR DOING THE RIGHT THING FOR...

DUE TO THE COST, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: CAS-13195872. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE PART WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND THAT THEY WOULD COVER HALF OF THE COST. NO ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 93,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,850.

THE ABNORMAL NOISE CONTINUED TO COME FROM THE STEERING AREA AS THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS STORED FOR MORE THAN TWO YEARS DUE TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE NOT AVAILABLE.

THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM ACROSS MANY DIFFERENT FORD MODELS, AND THEY HAVE RECALLED CERTAIN MODELS DUE TO THIS ISSUE, HOWEVER THEY HAVE NOT ISSUED A RECALL FOR 2013 FORD FOCUS. THE POWER STEERING ASSIST INDICATOR HAD BEEN COMING ON AND OFF A DIFFERENT INTERVALS. WHEN I WOULD COME ON THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD LOCK UP AND GO INTO MANUAL MODE AND WOULD HAVE TO ME MUSCLED WHILE DRIVING UNTIL THE INDICATOR WHEN OFF. MOST OF THE TIME THIS WOULD HAPPEN ON THE HIGHWAY. THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS ON A STREET IN A DENSELY POPULATED SUBURB NEIGHBORHOOD. THE INDICATOR CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE WENT INTO MANUAL MODE AND CRASHED INTO A NEIGHBORS CAR. FORTUNATELY ENOUGH NO ONE WAS IN THE VEHICLE BUT BOTH CARS WERE DAMAGED. THE DRIVER SIDE REAR QUARTER PANEL OF THE NEIGHBORS' CAR THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR AND QUARTER THE TIE OUTER TIE-ROD IS SEVERELY DAMAGED.
I RECEIVED A "STEERING ASSIST FAULT" WHILE TURNING ON MY CAR (IT WAS PARKED AT THE TIME) STEERING ASSIST FAULT. THE MILAGE IS 64K AND THE REST OF THE CAR IS IN GOOD SHAPE. HOWEVER, WITHOUT WARNING NOR FORESEEABLE CAUSE TO THIS ISSUE. WHEN THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON, I HAD LITTLE CONTROL OVER THE STEERING. UPON RESEARCH THERE ARE ALREADY VARIOUS COMPLAINTS WITH THE SAME VEHICLE ALL OF WHICH HAS HAPPENED EITHER THE CAR IN MOTION OR MERELY PARKED. THE COST ASSOCIATED WITH THIS KNOWN ISSUE THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAS PROVEN THROUGH VARIOUS SOURCES IS UNETHICAL. I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE OF THE POSSIBLE MONETARY LOSS TO MYSELF, AND HIGH RISK NATURE OF THIS ISSUE THAT COULD CAUSE POSSIBLE INJURY.
MY ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING IS BEGINNING TO MAKE NOISE. IT WILL EVENTUALLY FAIL AND CAUSE LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS THE POWER STEERING MODULE. TO FIX IT, THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE RACK AND PINION AT CONSIDERABLE COST. I NOTICED THAT FORD RECALLED MORE EXPENSIVE MODELS FOR THE POWER STEERING. WHY WON'T THEY RECALL MY CAR?
I PURCHASED A FORD FOCUS IN 2013 AND CURRENTLY HAVE 28,300 MILES ON THIS VEHICLE. THIS CAR HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED AND IS DRIVEN SOLELY BY ME. HOWEVER, RECENTLY I HAD A MAJOR MECHANICAL PROBLEM THAT COULD VERY EASILY BE FATAL FOR ANY DRIVER. THE POWER STEERING COMPLETELY FAILED AND LOCKED UP THE STEERING WHILE I WAS DRIVING. LUCKILY FOR ME I WAS WITHIN 10 FEET OF MY DRIVEWAY GOING ABOUT THREE MILES PER HOUR. MY TEENAGE SON WAS OPERATING THE VEHICLE AT RELATIVELY LOW SPEED (BELOW 20MPH) IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC IN A BUSY CITY SHOPPING AREA, THE STEERING SUDDENLY LOCKED AND WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER LEFT OR RIGHT. HE WAS ABLE TO PULL THE CAR OFF THE ROAD INTO A PARKING LOT WITH TREMENDOUS EFFORT. WHEN TRYING TO TURN THE WHEEL LEFT OR RIGHT THE CAR SEEMED TO LOCK OR GRAB AT THE WHEEL AND MADE AN AWFUL SCREECHING SOUND. HE SAID THAT SEVERAL WARNINGS FLASHED ON THE MESSAGE CENTER BUT HE DID NOT CATCH THEM AS HE WAS TRYING TO GET OUT OF TRAFFIC SAFELY. ONCE HE CAME TO A STOP, HE NOTICED THAT THE ORANGE "I" IN A BOX REMAINED LIT WHILE THE CAR WAS RUNNING. I WENT TO PICK HIM UP AND VERIFIED THE LOCKED STEERING, NOISE, AND WARNING LIGHT. WE LEFT THE CAR OVERNIGHT AND RESEARCHED POTENTIAL...

HE CONTACTED ME LATER , SAID HE HAD TO ORDER THE PART AND WOULD LET ME KNOW WHEN THE CAR WAS READY TO BE PICKED UP. THE COST? WOW. THE NAME OF THE PART WAS STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY, REPROGRAM...
POWER STEERING WILL GO OUT. HAVE TO TURN CAR OFF AND ON TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THIS OFTEN HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WILL TURN ON WITHOUT THE SWITCH BEING TURNED ON. THEY WILL STILL RUN EVEN WHEN THE CAR IS TURNED OFF AND THE KEY IS OUT OF THE IGNITION. THEY WILL NOT TURN ON AT OTHER TIMES, ESPECIALLY WHEN NEEDED.

TRANSMISSION BEGAN SHIFTING INCORRECTLY UNTIL FINALLY LOSING ALL POWER LEAVING ME STRANDED IN THE PASSING LANE GOING UPHILL ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY. PROBLEM STILL PERSISTED AFTER THE FORD DEALER REPROGRAMMED THE TRANSMISSION. REPLACEMENT OF TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE STILL HAS NOT FIXED THE ISSUE AND THE DEALER CURRENTLY DOESN'T KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AS THEY HOLD ONTO THE CAR FOR FURTHER TESTING. I'VE ALSO HAD THE POWER STEERING FAIL ON ME TWICE.

THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING WHILE DRIVING ON A RURAL HIGHWAY AT 50 MPH AND THE STEERING BECAME VERY STIFF AND DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER THE CAR. WHEN I TRIED TO DRIVE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY THE STEERING COMPLETELY LOCKED UP AND NEEDED TO BE TOWED. THE ODOMETER WAS ONLY AT 31,870, BUT OUT OF WARRANTY. THE REPAIR BILL WAS $2500 AND TOOK 10 DAYS TO FIX.
WHILE DRIVING HOME ON A VERY BUSY FREEWAY IN DALLAS THE STEERING DEFAULT WARNING CAME ON. SHORTLY THEREAFTER NUMEROUS OTHER WARNINGS DISPLAYED ON THE DASHBOARD, MY CAR IMMEDIATELY LOST ACCELERATION AND THE ENGINE DEFAULT LIGHT CAME ON CAUSING ME TO COMPLETELY STALL. I ALMOST CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT BEING RUSH HOUR. I WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY SAID I NEEDED A NEW BATTERY. OVER $400 LATER, 4 DAYS LATER, I PICKED CAR UP AND 5 HOURS LATER IT DID IT AGAIN. RETURNED CAR TO DEALERSHIP AND THIS TIME THEY REPORTED AN EVAP CODE. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE STEERING AND I KNEW THIS. I CONTACTED A FRIEND WHO IS A MASTER TECHNICIAN WHO WENT INTO THE DEALERSHIP WITH ME AND SUBSEQUENTLY I WAS NOT CHARGED THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE AGAIN. HE DISCUSSED THIS ISSUE AND THEY SAID THE STEERING WAS FINE AND UNTIL IT HAPPENS AGAIN THERE...
