The contact owns a 2014 Ford F-250. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH and attempting to change lanes, the contact felt a small bump. Shortly afterwards, the vehicle started to wobble violently, almost causing the contact to lose control of the vehicle due to the increased steering effort. The contact was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway to inspect the vehicle, but found no cause for the issue. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 116,668.

Vehicle wobbles violently on highway when it hits a bump. Had several near collisions. There were no warnings, happened suddenly.

On November 26, 2024 we experienced our third incident of the death wobble. During this third incident it threw the truck into oncoming traffic. After the second incident of the death wobble, we had the steering stabilizer fixed that was November 11, 2022. There was also damage to one tire due to truck leaving road. There was no warning lights or anything else prior to the uncontrollable shaking.

Death wobble at speeds greater than 46 mph. I have to come to a complete stop to make it stop. I almost got rear ended by a semi before I could get off the interstate on the shoulder. My vehicle is a 2014 but I have experienced this several times since I bought it new. Took it to my local ford dealer to see if they can do anything to fix it. It’s really dangerous when it happens on a busy interstate. The front end sounds like it’s coming apart and steering is impossible when it happens.

I have had this truck for 7 years and bought it with 35k. It now has 150k.This week ([XXX])I finally experienced the notorious “Death Wobble” at 60 mph in Atlanta, GA with my wife & daughter in the truck. This is a very scary situation when you’re going down the road with traffic behind you at 70 plus mph and the steering wheel starts shaking violently after going over a bump on the highway. I feared that we were going to be in an accident at that time. I was defenseless at that moment and in the middle lane of a major highway. I don’t understand how long this has to continue until a recall is considered or FORD is held liable for a problem they have been aware of going back as far as the 2011 model year. I would love for you to see the dash cam footage...

Driving 65 miles per hour on the freeway and front end started shaking and wobbling horrible, could have caused an accident it was sudden and violent. Pulled over to verify tires were okay and they were. Couldn’t drive over 50 MPH without the wobble starting again.

The Ford Death Wobble. I was driving down the highway at speed and hit an overpass expansion joint and the truck started violently shaking and I had to slow down and get in the center median against the concrete barrier to get it under control. Once I got it under control and got back on the highway I moved to the slow lane and a couple of miles down the road I hit another expansion joint, and it did the same thing. This time there was an exit ramp coming up and I took the ramp to slow down to get it back under control. We had just had it at the local Ford dealership and had the suspension all changed to new from OEM. New tie rods, steering damper, and most of the other suspension parts to fix the issue. They said that should fix the problem. It did...

Death wobble occurred randomly at about 40mph. Driving through mountains, slowed down and pulled off to the side to avoid putting others in danger including the passengers in this truck. There were not any warning lights/alerts from the truck prior to this happening.

Death Wobble. I did not know this was a thing until it happened to me and I found out its been a problem on Ford Trucks for over 15 years. My entire truck including the steering wheel shook violently on 5 different occasions. I'm scared to drive my 100K truck now. I brought to dealership thinking it came from them working on my truck and they informed me that this has been a issue that Ford refuses to recall and there's been multiple lawsuits. They suggested I file a complaint with this Org.
#11547679 |
Horrible death wobble. Entire front end has been rebuilt and the truck is still experiencing the death wobble.
#11527448 |
While driving down the highway at 75 I hit an uneven bump in the road and the vehicles front end started to vibrate and quickly became violent shaking of the trucks front end causing me to lose control of the vehicle and almost cause a major multicar accident on the interstate. I ended up almost hitting the guard rail on the side of the road but everyone was ok. I thought the whole front end came apart and had to get out of the vehicle on the side of the interstate to inspect the front and upon doing so almost got hit by a passing vehicle. After researching this problem I found thousands and thousands of complaints on f-250s for this same issue. It is unbelievable nothing has been done to remedy this problem when it seems it has been a known problem for many years. Thank God I didn't...

On two different occasions while driving on the highway ( approximately 60 to 65) when I passed over an expansion joint the steering wheel and entire truck started to shake violently and out of control - it was like it hit some harmonic balance and would not stop until I got hard on the brakes and slowed down to approximately 35 mph. ( not fun to do in the fast lane of a highway) this happened two times once in Feb 2023 and again in June 2023

My truck was going into the “death wobble”. Every time I hit a bump in the road. This has caused an accident on the highway while towing a U-Haul trailer and near accidents on multiple occasions. I recently had it fixed at a dealership where I was told this is a very well known issue with Ford trucks. This is terrifying when it happens on the highway and will cause serious injury and death.

My 2014 F250 is also experiencing a death wobble like many other ford f250 customers already reported. The steering and front wheels shakes abruptly when driving on uneven roads on highways unexpectedly. This happens between 60 to 75 miles on highways, and I need to reduce the speed drastically to regain the control of the vehicle. This sudden speed reduction can cause back-end collisions and ford does not have any safety recalls on this issue as far as I know. This happened to me multiple occasions on same uneven roads and i tired to avoid those uneven areas these days.

I was Getting on I-95 N from Benson, NC with speed limit of 70mph. While I was still accelerating and just merged in traffic, going about 65-70mph, my 2014 F250 started doing the death wobble. The section of highway I was on has no shoulder or anywhere to pull off because they are doing construction on the shoulder and have concrete blocks maybe 6inches past the line. So I had no choice but to put on my brakes hard and slow down until the shaking stopped, which was bout 15-20mph. I’m very lucky I wasn’t rear ended or in an accident because of the death wobble. My 12 week old baby girl was also with me in the truck at the time

On 1/27/2023 at approximately 1215pm I was driving my 2014 Ford f250 Diesel on route 743 between Hershey PA and Elizabethtown PA. I was going about 55 mph I was going on a right curve and hit a small bump in the roadway. My truck began to violently shake and I feared that I was going to wreck and lose control. One this happened this death wobble accorded 4 more times within the next 20 miles.

I was driving on the highway over a bridge and the truck started wobbling uncontrollably when I hit 55. The scary part is you couldn’t really control the vehicle when it was wobbling like that. So the next day we went and bought me shocks for the front and back and it’s doing this.
#11499051 |
Driving at 55 mph and hit small bump in the road and front end started shaking violently. Had to come to a complete stop to get it to quit
#11499088 |
The truck developed a "death wobble" about a year ago. Over the past year the death wobble has happened almost every single time we have drove it. We have had multiple diesel mechanics look at it numerous times. We have replaced all the tie rod ends, drag link, steering stabilizer, track bar and track bar bushing. When the truck starts shaking, the driver has to immediately engage the breaks, running the risk of being rear ended and risking losing control of the truck. No warning lights have displayed throughout this time. The shaking has happened when driving between 35-55 mph, while the truck is alone and also once while pulling a horse trailer, loaded with horses- posing severe risk to the horses and passengers in the truck. The truck is available for inspection if need be.

Everyone calls it's the ford death shake. It is very dangerous and after reading online there is several having the same issue you lose complete control of your vehicle when it happens hit a pot hole bump in the road or going over 50 mph I have wrecked my truck due to this issue and it seems thousands of people are having the same issue it is going to end up injuring someone very badly or taking someone life or others this is a big safety issue! And needs to be addressed and ford take responsibility

The truck is scheduled to go in to a Ford Dealer Sept 27, 2022. The steering became unmanageable changing lanes at 50 miles an hour. I was almost impossible to controll the truck due to uncontollable shaking. If someone had been beside us we would have crashed. I am afraid to ride in the truck because there isn't any warning this is going to happen. I was literally scared to death. From my research it is called the death wobble. Consumers should not be responsible for paying for repairs for defective equipment they didn’t cause. And, most importantly, truck owners should not have to worry about potentially being injured or killed in an accident or harming someone else. this has happened several times with my husband when I wasn't in the truck and I had no idea how serious it is.

I was driving down the road, going about 45-50. Hit a small bump and the truck started shaking to the point that I had to pull over immediately. Took it to a shop, everything is tight and in working order. As a precaution the tech replaced the shocks. This worked for a few days. On my way to work (7/23/2022), going about 45-50, the shaking happened again. I pulled over to stop it and not to injure other drivers on the road. Starting doing research and found that these Ford trucks are notorious for what is called the "Ford Death Wobble". Although the shocks are less than 4 months old the shaking is occurring more frequently and with more intensity.

DEATH WOBBLE SHAKES TREMOUNDESLY AFTER 50 MPH
#11475090 |
The contact owns a 2014 Ford F-250. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the front-end of the vehicle was shaking violently. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact called the local dealer but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

While breaking quickly due to another group of vehicles suddenly breaking, my truck began to shake violently similar to symptoms noted in the repeated reports concerning death wobble. My tires have less than 10,000 miles and the truck has had the alignment checked in the last 12 months. It is important to note that the steering shook so violently that it came out of my hands. This could have caused a major accident or worse for a less skilled motorist.
#11464490 |
I experienced the death wobble in a 2014 F250 while driving 60-65 mph on highway through Memphis. Wobble initiated by hitting a pot hole.
#11462519 |
I have experienced the Death Wobble. It has gotten very severe. Truck is now in the shop. Wobble has happened at least 8 times in past two months. Scary it is

UNKNOWN! This is the 2nd Ford F250 that I've purchased brand new. I had no clue what the issue was until visiting with fellow Ford F250 owners. Low and behold, the "Ford Death Wobble". I don't understand WHY there has NOT been a recall on this before now. After researching, I've learned there was even a class action lawsuit filed against Ford in 2019! What on earth is wrong with FORD?! I love my truck, but not enough to continue buying a Ford product knowing this is an issue that they don't want to fix!!! I'm so glad I was informed by friends with the same issues and know it's not just "an alignment" issue! Shame on you Ford for refusing to address or acknowledge this issue!!!!! I pray that I don't have an accident due to the "death wobble" that the Ford trucks have.....but at least it is documented...

I was driving on the highway at 70 miles per hour when I hit at what appeared to be a bridge expansion joint. And almost immediately started feeling some vibration. After about two weeks while I was driving about 65 mph on the the hiway, I almost lost control of the vehicle. I could hardly control the steering wheel as it was shaking so bad. I took the vehicle to an independent service center and it was diagnosed as the death wobble. Some parts were repleased but did not take care of the problem. There was no waring other than the shaking . Still cannot go over 50 mph without the vehicle shaking uncontrollably.

The contact owns a 2014 Ford F-250. The contact stated that while driving over a bump at approximately 70 MPH, the front end was shaking violently. After the vehicle decelerated to approximately 40 MPH, the vehicle stopped shaking. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact called an independent mechanic and was informed to contact NHTSA. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 59,000.

My 2014 Ford F-250 started developing a Death Wabble when on rough highways doing over 45mph. Three or four times I took it to Ford service Tucson at 22nd street and technician changed steering box, ball joints and generally looked it over. The other day the Death Wabble was every 5 miles on highway 83 which is a little rough but no potholes. Took the truck in yesterday and they couldn’t find a problem. Please be advised when this happens the truck is out of control. I need to hit my brakes to about 25 mph and the shaking then stops.
#11449010 |
"death shake/wobble" driving 60 mph hit a small pot hole in a slight curve to the left front end started shaking so badly that i had to come to a complete stop by placing transmission in neutral and allowing truck to slow down by coasting. brakes made it worse

Traveling down the highway at 55MPH, I hit a little bump or crack in the cement and the front end of my truck shacks so hard that my glasses fell from the ceiling storage. This happend 2 times on the same commute. Very scary and dangerous.

I experienced a vibration in the front steering and suspension of my 2014 F250 Lariat Super Duty 4X4 after hitting a bump in the road. I was traveling between 45 – 50 miles per hour, hit a bump that cannot be avoided in my lane. On October 28, 2021 after hitting the bump as described above, it started vibrating so violently in the front end I had difficulty controlling it and keep it in my lane to slow it down to about 15 miles per hour to stop the shaking from the front wheels. In all my years of driving, I have never experienced anything like this. I carefully checked my F250 for lose wheels or front-end suspension and slowly drove another 4 miles home and checked it again. Please note, my F250, VIN ID [XXX] only has 54,797 miles on it with 99% being highway miles. It has not...

While driving 85 MPH in an 85 MPH zone near the 9900 blk of N SH 130 NB a bump in the left hand lane sent the truck into a violent shake. Reducing speed did little to resolve the death wobble. Luckily no traffic was around allowing me to slowly reduce the speed and bring the vehicle to a stop on the shoulder. Only stopping made the violent wobble stop. Immediately drove to the tire shop and replaced with factory tires. Will have the vehicles front suspension checked by a certified technician.

On interstate highway, hit a bump in the road and vehicle vibrated, shook violently and was difficult to steer. The vehicle had to slowed down to 50 mph from 70 mph to regain control by hard braking. This action put my life at risk in rush hour traffic. I will not drive this vehicle until this issue is resolved. This happened at 7 am in the morning.

HITTING A BUMP AT HIGHWAY SPEED (55+ MPH) CAUSES THE FRONT END TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AS IF THE FRONT TIRE HAS BLOWN. STEERING BECOMES DIFFICULT AS THE FRONT END SHUTTERS. SLOWING WELL BELOW HIGHWAY SPEED BRINGS IT BACK TO A CONTROLLABLE STATE (HAD TO PULL OVER AND COMPLETELY STOP ONCE). EFFECT IS WORSE AS SPEED INCREASES, ABOVE 70 MPH IS NEARLY UNRECOVERABLE.
#11412886 |
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH AND MY LEFT FRONT WHEEL BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY, WOBBLE, AND BOUNCE OUT OF CONTROL. I TRIED TO APPLY MY BRAKES AND THE CONDITION GOT WORSE. I ENDED UP IN THE ONCOMING LANE'S DITCH BY THE TIME I WAS ABLE TO STOP. FORTUNATELY THERE WAS NO ONCOMING TRAFFIC BECAUSE DURING THIS EVENT I WAS UNABLE TO STEER UNTIL THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. I'VE HEARD FROM OTHER PEOPLE THAT FORD SUPER DUTY'S FREQUENTLY HAVE WHAT IS A CALLED A "DEATH WOBBLE" AND I WOULD CERTAINLY CONSIDER THIS EVENT TO BE THE SAME.

AT SPEEDS OVER 50 MPH SEVERE SHAKING OCCURS AND THE TRUCK BECOMES UNCONTROLLABLE UNTIL SPEED IS REDUCED TO BELOW 45 MPH. THE TRUCK'S STEERING DOES NOT RESPOND AND CANNOT CONTROL THE TRUCK. AT THIS POINT I CAN ONLY DRIVE THE TRUCK AT SPEEDS AT OR BELOW 45 MPH. THE ISSUE OCCURRED ON A HIGHWAY DURING THE DAY. AMBIENT TEMPERATURE WAS 52 DEGREES AND THERE WAS NO RAIN. THE ROAD AREA I WAS TRAVELING THROUGH WAS KNOWN FOR UNEVEN ROAD SURFACE AND COULD CAUSE SOME SHAKING IN THIS TRUCK AND IN OTHER VEHICLES I'VE DRIVEN BUT NEVER TO THIS EXTREME. THE SEVERE SHAKING STARTED WHILE THE TRUCK WAS AT 65 MPH (70 MPH ZONE) AND BRAKING ALSO BECAME DIFFICULT. I HAD TO KEEP OFF THE GAS AND LET THE TRUCK SLOW ITSELF TO A STABLE SPEED THEN I EXITED THE HIGHWAY. THE TRUCK IS A 2014 FORD F-250 WITH APPROXIMATELY 109400...

DEATH WOBBLE
#11386266 |
WHILE DRIVING, I EXPERIENCE A SEVERE AND HORRIFYING 'DEATH WOBBLE' IN MY STEERING WHEEL, AT WHICH TIME THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF MY TRUCK VIOLENTLY SHAKES. IT BECOMES DIFFICULT TO CONTROL IT AND FORCES ME TO APPLY MY BRAKES IN ORDER TO REGAIN CONTROL. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR ABOUT 8 MONTHS AND HAPPENS OFTEN. IT HAPPENS AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. NOBODY APPEARS TO KNOW HOW TO FIX IT.

WHILE ACCELERATING ON THE ENTRANCE RAMP TO GET ON THE HIGHWAY, MY 2014 FORD F-250 SUPERDUTY WITH 142,000 MILES BEGAN TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY. I HAD BARELY REACHED 45-50 MILES PER HOUR WHEN IT HAPPENED. THE SHAKE WAS STRONG ENOUGH TO THROW MY HANDS OFF THE STEERING WHEEL. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY SLOWDOWN AND PULL THE TRUCK OFF THE ROAD THEREAFTER. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE DRIVABILITY OF THIS TRUCK AND HAVE RAISED A CONCERN WITH FORD AND THE DEALER THAT SOLD ME THE TRUCK.
#11384989 |
VEHICLE WILL HAVE VIOLENT SHAKING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS KNOW AS A "DEATH WOBBLE". DEATH WOBBLE HAPPENED AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS AND ON DIFFERENT ROAD TERRAINS. THIS ISSUES ALSO HAPPENED WHEN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND BRAKING AROUND CURVES.
#11378584 |
DRIVING AT 70 MILES PER HOUR ON A STATE HWY MY FRONT END STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY. IT ALMOST CAUSED ME TO CRASH ,I APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT MADE IT WORSE.FINALLY WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL AND STOPPED.

WHEN DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 58MPH ON CITY ROADS OR INTERSTATE A SLIGHT VIBRATION STARTS AND TURNS INTO AN UNCONTROLLABLE WOBBLE IN FRONT TIRES AND STEERING WHEEL. NO WAY TO POWER THRU THE VIBRATION YOU HAVE TO COME TO ALMOST A COMPLETE STOP AT TIMES FOR WOBBLE TO STOP.
#11376318 |
MY 2014 F250 HAS SINCE AROUND 80K MILES HAD AN UNCONTROLLABLE WOBBLE WHEN AT LOW HIGHWAY SPEEDS HITTING EVEN THE SMALLEST BUMP IN THE ROAD. AFTER MULTIPLE ALIGNMENTS AND TIRE CHANGES MY DEALER ADMITTED THAT ITS KNOWN AS "DEATH WOBBLE" AND I NEED TO DO THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN REPAIRS THAT ARE VERY COMMON. I AM AT 140K NOW AND THEY FINALLY ADMITED THAT ITS A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM
#11361262 |
I WAS ACCELERATING UP THE ON-RAMP ONTO A FREEWAY WHEN I ENCOUNTERED SOME ROUGH PAVEMENT ON THE OVERPASS. THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. I HAD DIFFICULTY HOLDING ONTO THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE TRUCK BEGAN HEADING TOWARD THE RIGHT SIDE GRASSY MEDIAN. I WAS ABLE TO SLOW BY LETTING OFF THE ACCELERATOR. I WAS AFRAID THAT BRAKING MIGHT CAUSE ME TO LOSE CONTROL ALTOGETHER. AT REDUCED SPEED THE SHAKING STOPPED. LOOKING IN MY MIRROR I COULD TELL THAT THE DRIVER BEHIND ME SAW WHAT WAS HAPPENING AND HAD BACKED OFF SOME DISTANCE FROM ME. I HAVE FELT THE SHAKING SEVERAL TIMES SINCE THE ORIGINAL OCCURRENCE BUT IT HAS NOT BEEN AS VIOLENT AS THE FIRST TIME.
