MY 2001 FORD F-250 SUPER DUTY EJECTED A SPARK PLUG OUT OF THE # 8 CYLINDER. *JB
SPARK PLUG (#3) BLOWN OUT OF A 5.4 L V8 TRITON FORD ENGINE. 2,000.00 MILES PAST WARRANTY(100,000) HAS ALREADY COST 1,450 AND TRUCK IS STILL BROKEN DOWN. FORD RECOMMENDING AN ENGINE TEAR DOWN WHICH WILL MOST LIKELY COST MORE THAN THE TRUCK'S WORTH. I AM NOTICING THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON FORD PROBLEM, I AM WONDERING WHY THE ALUMINUM HEAD HASN'T BEEN RECALLED? THE EXPLOSION FROM THE EJECTING SPARK PLUG HAS DAMAGED THE #3 CYLINDER AND MY ENGINE MIGHT NEED TO BE REBUILT OR REPLACED. THIS AS WE KNOW IS VERY COSTLY AND WHEN THE VEHICLE IS ONLY WORTH 10K FOR TRADE IN, RUNNING IT IS HARD TO KNOW WHAT TO DO. I HOPE THIS MAKES ITS WAY TO SOMEONE WHO CAN CHANGE SOMETHING BECAUSE IT APPEARS TO BE A COMMON AND PRICEY PROBLEM. *JB
WITHIN 6000 MILES OF TUNE-UP FROM FORD DEALERSHIP IN SALEM, VA. A SPARK PLUG ON PASSENGER SIDE 3RD BACK CAME OUT OF HEAD OF ENGINE CAUSING LOUD NOISES AND DAMAGE TO HEAD , WAS TAKEN TO GARAGE AND WAS TOLD BY THEM AND NUMEROUS OTHER GARAGES I CALLED THAT IT WOULD COST 800.00 PLUS IF WAS FIXED ON VEHICLE BY TOOL FROM SNAP-ON AND NO GUARANTEE , TO 2000.00 PLUS DOLLARS FOR HEAD TO BE TAKEN OFF VEHICLE AND STILL NO GUARANTEE BECAUSE OF ALUMINUM HEADS ON A 2001 F-250 SUPER DUTY TRUCK AND I AM ON A FIXED INCOME AND ACCORDING TO OTHER GARAGES THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH FORD TRUCKS WITH 5.4 LITER MOTORS. *NM
THE # 7 SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF MY 2001 FORD F250 SUPER DUTY (5.4L ENGINE). IT COST $1761.61 FROM THE DEALERSHIP TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. THE PLUGS WERE ORIGINAL FROM THE FACTORY. THERE WAS 74254 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND FORD DOES NOT RECOMMEND PLUGS UNTIL 100,000 MI. FURTHER RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THAT THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS ENGINE AND FORD DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THEY DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I CONTACTED FORD MOTOR CO. AND GOT A SIMILAR RESPONSE. THIS CAN BE A LIFE THREATENING PROBLEM IF THE PLUG DAMAGES THE FUEL LINES AND STARTS A FIRE. I WAS LUCKY TO NOT HAVE THIS HAPPEN THIS TIME, BUT I HAVE AT LEAST 7 MORE CHANCES FOR THIS TO OCCUR. FORD NEEDS TO BE HELD LIABLE FOR THIS PROBLEM. PLEASE HELP!! I SEE BY THE NEXT QUESTIONS THAT A DEATH MIGHT GET RESULTS. I...
MY VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH THE 6.8 LITER V-10 THE ENGINE KEEPS BLOWING THE SPARK PLUGS OUT OF THE TOP OF THE MOTOR WHEN THIS OCCURS RAW GAS ESCAPES THROUGH THE HOLE ALL OVER THE ENGINE UNTIL YOU CAN PULL OVER AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF ALL THOUGH IT IS NOT MUCH GAS IT IS STILL VERY FLAMMABLE AND COULD RESULT IN A FIRE AND POSSIBLY CAUSING YOU TO LOSS CONTROL AND CRASH. *JB
DRIVING ON THE ROAD, AND THIS GOD AWFUL LOUD NOISE FROM UNDER THE HOOD. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER A SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF THE HEAD. THE CORRECTION WAS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE HEAD, THE PATCH FIX WOULD HAVE COST 1,000.00, BUT WITH NO WARRANTY. I HAVE A FRIEND WHO WORKS AT FORD IN MICHIGAN AND THIS IS WHY I AM IN TOUCH WITH YOU PEOPLE. NHTSA ACTION #DPO5005 ADDRESSES THE PROBLEM ABOUT THE ALUMINUM HEADS AND THE PROBLEMS WITH PLUGS EJECTING FROM THE HEADS. THE DEALER HAS DONE ALL THE WORK ON THIS TRUCK, AND THIS REPAIR WAS 3,509.80. FORD SHOULD STEP UP TO THE PLATE , AN AGREE THERE HAS BEEN A PROBLEM. IF THIS WEEK THE OTHER SIDE GOES THAT WILL BE 7,000.00 AND NOT EVEN A NEW ENGINE, JUST 2 HEADS IF NOTHING ELSE HAPPENS. *JB
WHILE OUT OF TOWN I HAD JUST EXITED THE INTERSTATE WHEN I HEARD A LOUD POP.MY TRUCK, A FORD F250 WITH A 5.4 LTR TRITON V8 STARTED RUNNING TERRIBLE AND MAKING A GOD AWFUL NOISE.I MANAGED TO MAKE IT TO A NEARBY PARKING LOT.I OPENED THE HOOD TO FIND AN IGNITION COIL PACK AND SPARKPLUG LAYING ON TOP OF THE ENGINE.I WAS ABLE TO REINSTALL THE SPARKPLUG AND REPLACED THE COIL PACK DUE (COIL PACK ATTACHMENT EAR HAD BROKEN OFF WHEN PLUG WAS EJECTED FROM ENGINE.).APPROXIMATELY 2 WEEKS LATER MY WIFE AND KIDS WERE ON THEIR WAY TO A LOCAL PARK.THEY HAD JUST TURNED OFF A MAJOR STREET WHEN THEY HEARD A LOUD POP,THEY DESCRIBED AS SOUNDING LIKE A GUNSHOT. THE SAME THING HAPPENED AND TO DATE I'M SUPRISED THAT A FIRE HAS NOT OCCURED OR NO SERIOUS INJURIES HAVE OCCURED. THIS IS VERY DANAGEROUS THE SPARK PLUG IS ACTUALLY...
THE CYLINDER HEAD IN MY 2001 FORD F-250 SUPER DUTY TRUCK BLEW OUT A SPARK PLUG. THE DEALER HAS QUOTED A $3,000 REPAIR. THE REPAIR REQUIRES REPLACEMENT OF THE DRIVERS SIDE CYLINDER HEAD. RESEARCH OF THIS PROBLEM INDICATES THAT FORD HAS BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH CYLINDER HEAD FAILURES IN THE 5.4 LITER TRITON V-8 MOTOR. THE APPARENT CAUSE IS DUE TO THE NUMBER OF SCREW THREADS AVAILABLE TO CONTAIN THE SPARK PLUG. THIS CYLINDER HEAD SPARK PLUG PORTS HAVE 4 TO FIVE THREADS AVAILABLE TO ENGAGE THE PLUG, WHICH IS ABOUT HALF OF WHAT ONE WOULD NORMALLY EXPECT TO FIND. SPARK PLUGS BLOWING OUT OF A CYLINDER HEAD ARE RARE OR SO I THOUGHT. THERE ARE NUMEROUS POSTS ON LINE OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN, ON VARIOUS FORD PRODUCTS WHICH USE THE TRITON V-8 MOTOR. THE MILEAGE AT WHICH FAILURE OCCURS IS VARIED.
