1.1 MILLION FORD 7.3L TURBO DIESELS RECALLED UNDER FORD RECALL 07S57 FOR MODEL YEARS 1997-2003 FOR CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR PROBLEM WHICH CAUSES ENGINE TO CUT OFF WHILE RUNNING; HOWEVER WHEN I TAKE MY 2001 F250 DIESEL IN WITH SAME ENGINE EXHIBITS SAME PROBLEMS; FORD DEALER TOLD ME MY TRUCK WASN'T COVERED BY THE RECALL BECAUSE OF THE "COLOR" OF THE SENSOR THAT WAS IN MY TRUCK. I HAD IT REPAIRED ANYHOW BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM FOR 8-10 MONTHS AND HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS WHEN USING THE TRUCK CROSSING INTERSECTIONS AND THE LIKE DUE TO THE ENGINE CUTTING OUT. I THINK IT RIDICULOUS THAT THEY RESTRICT THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH MINE EXHIBITS THE IDENTICAL SYMPTOMS. WHILE AN INEXPENSIVE REPAIR, I DOUBT I SHALL BUY ANOTHER FORD TRUCK NOW AFTER HAVING OWNED 3 OF THEM IN THE PAST. *TR

HAVING JUST REPLACED THE CPS ON MY 2001 FORD F-250 PSD AT THE FORD DEALER AT AROUND 29,000 MILES, THE FAMILY AND I DEPARTED ON VACATION TO A LAKE IN CENTRAL OREGON PULLING A 24FT TRAVEL TRAILER (7000 LBS). ARRIVING TO THE LAKE REQUIRES A STEEP DECENT INTO A CANYON, ROCK WALL ON ONE SIDE AND SHEAR DROPOFF ON THE OTHER. AT THE BEGINNING OF THE DECENT MY TRUCK JUST DIED, BRAKES AND STEERING BEGAN TO FAIL (NO PRESSURES), WHITE KNUCKLE IS PUTTING IT LIGHTLY, I ENDED UP TURNING OVER THE STATER FREQUENTLY TO GET PRESSURES BACK TO THE PUMPS TO KEEP THE TRUCK UNDER CONTOL. ONCE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CANYON WE STOPPED AND I CYCLED THE IGNITION SWITCH IT STATED RIGHT UP, NO PROBLEMS FOR THE REST OF THE TRIP. I HAD NUMEROUS FAILURES SINCE THEN AND HAVE REPLACED THE CPS MYSELF WITH GOOD RESULTS UNTIL JUST...

THE CAM POSITION SENSOR IN MY TRUCK FAILED WITH 75,00 MILES. FORD IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM BUT HAS DONE NOTHING TO RECTIFY THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. WHEN THE ENGINE SHUTS DOWN WITHOUT WARNING. RECENTLY ON A TRIP TO NEVADA, WITHOUT OUR TRAVEL TRAILER, THE TRUCK ACTED AS IF IT WERE NOT GETTING ADEQUATE FUEL 3 TIMES AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF COMPLETELY TWICE. ALL OF THIS ON A BUSY INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. FORTUNATELY, WHEN IT SHUT OFF I WAS ABLE TO KICK IT INTO NEUTRAL AND RESTART THE ENGINE. WHEN I TOOK THE TRUCK TO MY DEALER A PART WAS REPLACED AND I WAS TOLD THAT MY PROBLEM WAS NOT UNCOMMON WITH THIS DIESEL ENGINE. PART REPLACED WAS A CAMSHAFT SENSOR. ON TWO OF THESE OCCASIONS THE PART FAILED SLOWLY CAUSING INTERMITTENT ENGINE PROBLEMS. THE TRUCK WOULD RUN ROUGH AND LOOSE ALL POWER. ON THE TWO REMAINING OCCASIONS THE PART FAILED IMMEDIATELY AND PUT MY LIFE IN IMMEDIATE DANGER. ON ONE OF THESE FAILURES I WAS TOWING A 12,000 LB FIFTH WHEEL TRAILER, ON THE INTERSTATE AT 65 MPH. MY ENGINE STALLED (STOPPED RUNNING COMPLETELY) WITH NO WARNING AND LEFT ME WITH NO POWER BRAKES AND NO POWER STEERING. THE ONLY THING THAT SAVED ME WAS THE LOCATION OF THE INCIDENT.
