TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD STARTED BREAKING AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE BOLTS HOLDING THE MANIFOLD IN PLACE HAD RUSTED AND BROKEN OFF. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THIS WAS A COMMON FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 291,000.

CYLINDER 5 SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT WHILE DRIVING, WRECKING THE THREADING IN THE SPARK PLUG HOLE AND THE COIL. *TR
IN MAY WAS AT A STOP LIGHT WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I ACCELERATED AND THE PLUG BLEW AT SECONDS LATER I GOT IT TOWED TO THE SHOP FIXED IT WITH THE HELI-COIL KIT DAYS LATER AS I WAS GOING UP A STEEP HILL HEARD A POPPING SOUND BROUGHT IT RIGHT TO THE SHOP ANOTHER PLUG WAS READY TO EJECT THEY PULLED ALL PLUGS ANTI SEIZED THEM GOOD FOR A COUPLE MONTHS NOW IN SEPT IT IS READY TO LOSE ANOTHER PLUG. MY TRUCK IS A 1999 FORD F-150 TRITON. *TR
I PURCHASED MY 1999 FORD F-150 4X 4 WITH A TRITON 5.4 V-8 ENGINE USED. THE ENGINE HAD APPROXIMATELY 140,000 WHEN I PURCHASED IT. I ONLY DRIVE IT TO AND FROM WORK IN LAS VEGAS, NV (APPROXIMATELY 25 MILES ROUND TRIP) AT SPEEDS BELOW 50 MPH. THE ENGINE BLEW THE BACK PLUG AT 163,000. BECAUSE IT WAS THE BACK PLUG THE LABOR TO REPAIR WAS HIGH (PULL THE ENGINE). THE DIFFERENCE IN PUTTING HELICOILS (ALL EIGHT PLUGS) IN AND A NEW ENGINE WAS NOT THAT MUCH DIFFERENCE SO I ORDER A LONG BLOCK FULL ENGINE FROM FORD WITH STIPULATIONS IT CORRECTED THE DESIGN FLAW. THE ENGINE COST ALMOST $7000 WHEN ALL WAS DONE AND COMPLETE. FORD WARRANTY THE ENGINE 3 YEARS AND 75,000 MILES. I FIGURED THIS CORRECTED THE ISSUES WITH THE SPARK PLUGS BLOWING OUT. WELL AT THE 4 YEAR POINT AND APPROXIMATE 25,000 MILES THE NEW ENGINE BLEW...
HAVE HAD A SPARK PLUG EJECTED TWICE NOW WITHIN 3000 MILES. AFTER SOME RESEARCH THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH SOME FORD ENGINES. IT WAS ACTUALLY PRETTY SCARY DUE TO THE STRONG ODOR OF GAS AFTERWARDS WITH THE ENGINE BEING SO HOT. IT NOW SEEMS LIKE ITS GOING TO BE A COSTLY PROBLEM TO FIX. EVEN WORSE, THE FIX IS NO GUARANTEE THAT IT WON'T HAPPEN TO THE REPLACEMENT CYLINDER HEADS. *TR
I OWN A 1999 FORD F-150, 5.4L V-8 TRITON. I RECENTLY HAD A TUNE UP IN DECEMBER 2010 WITH ALL EIGHT SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES CHANGED OUT FOR A MERE $700. IN FEB 2011, AS I WAS TAKING MY CHILDREN TO SCHOOL, I HEARD A LOUD POP THEN MY ENGINE STARTED TO SOUND LIKE A TRACTOR WITHOUT A MUFFLER ON IT. I PULLED OVER AND CALLED WRECKER TO RETURN THE TRUCK TO MY HOUSE, OUT OF POCKET $60, NOT KNOWING ANYTHING ABOUT ENGINES. I CALLED THE REPAIR CENTER WHO THEN HAD IT TRANSFERRED BACK TO THEIR SHOP FOR REPAIR. THE #8 PLUG HAD COMPLETELY SHOT OUT RIPPING THE COIL WITH IT. THEY FIXED THAT, NOW TWO WEEKS LATER, THE #7 PLUG IS FOULED ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC. EACH TIME, HE WOULD INSTALL A NEW PLUG AND IGNITION COIL. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP. I NOTICED A TICKING NOISE WHICH SOUNDED LIKE AN EXHAUST MANIFOLD LEAK FOR THE PAST FEW DAYS AND JUST TODAY I WAS TAKING OFF FROM A STOP SIGN WHEN THE SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF THE HEAD CREATING A LOUD KNOCKING/TICKING NOISE. I HAVE NOT HAD IT FIXED YET, BUT FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND THIS CAN CREATE ENGINE FIRES WHICH CAN BE A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IN JULY 2009 WHILE DRIVING, THE COIL PACK BECAME DISLOCATED ALONG WITH A SMALL PIECE OF THE SPARK PLUG. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE THREADING ON THE SPARK PLUGS WAS NOT SUFFICIENT ENOUGH TO HOLD IT IN PLACE, CAUSING THE PLUGS TO FAIL DUE TO ENGINE MOVEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE COIL PACK WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN IN JULY 2010. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AGAIN BY THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 137,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 123,179.
AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE APPROXIMATELY 10-12 MILES, I PARKED IT IN THE DRIVEWAY. ABOUT FIFTEEN MINUTES LATER MY WIFE AND I SMELLED SMOKE. WHEN I INVESTIGATED, I FOUND ENGINE COMPARTMENT OF THE TRUCK IN FLAMES. THE FIRE APPEARED TO HAVE STARTED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT ABOVE THE FRONT WHEEL. FIRE COMPANY WAS REQUIRED TO EXTINGUISH THE FLAMES. EVERYTHING FORWARD OFTHE FIREWALL WAS DESTROYED. *TR

HE WAS INFORMED THE MOTOR HEAD SENDING UNIT HAD TO BE REPLACED, BUT THE MOTOR HEAD HOLE WAS DEFECTIVE BECAUSE IT WAS DRILLED TOO LARGE.THE GARAGE WAS NOT ABLE TO REPLACE THE MOTOR HEAD IN A TIMELY MANNER. THE TOTAL COST FOR REPAIR WAS $700.00.THE CONTACT CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE . THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
I OWN A USED 1999 FORD F-150 5.4L ENGINE. IT HAS APPROXIMATELY 117,500 MILES. WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY IN CALIFORNIA YESTERDAY, I HEARD A LOUD KNOCKING TYPE NOISE. I PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING OPENED THE HOOD. JUST AS I DID, THE SPARK PLUG EJECTED FROM THE CYLINDER HEAD AND CAME WITHIN 3" OF MY SKULL ALMOST KILLING ME. TOOK IT RIGHT OVER TO THE POWER FORD DEALER IN TUSTIN, CA. THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME A DIAGNOSIS FEE TO TELL ME WHAT I ALREADY KNOW. I TOLD THEM THEY BETTER ASSURE ME THAT THE REMAINING 7 PLUGS WON'T DO THE SAME THING OR I MAY HAVE BEEN KILLED AND A LAW SUIT WOULD HAVE BEEN A DEFINITE. SPARK PLUG KEEPS BEING BLOWN OUT OF THE CYLINDER HEAD. NOW THEY WANT TO REPLACE THE WHOLE HEAD $3,000.00 THEY FIRST TIME IT HAPPEN THEY JUST PUT IN A HELICOIL KIT AND CHARGED ME A $1,000.00. IN THE PAST 4MOS, WE HAVE HAD 4 SPARK PLUGS SHOOT OUT. EACH TIME THIS HAPPENED, IT COST 300.00 TO REPAIR AND 200.00 FOR TOWING. NOT INCLUDING THE MONEY LOST IN WAGES, RENTING A VEHICLE ETC. I CONTACTED FORD AND FILED A COMPLAINT. THEY SAID THEY WOULD DOCUMENT THIS AND THAT WAS PRETTY MUCH THE END OF THIS. THE DEALER SHIP WE TOOK THIS TO, SAID THEY SEE A LOT OF THESE. IT WAS BECAUSE OF THE ALUMINUM HEADS AND FORD RECOGNIZES THIS NOW AND CHANGED IT. WELL, THEY DID NOT CHANGE IT FOR THE PEOPLE WHO STILL HAVE THESE TRUCKS. THIS SITUATION IF VERY FRUSTRATING TO ME AS A CONSUMER. THIS COULD POSSIBLY BLOW THE ENTIRE ENGINE. THIS VEHICLE IS NOT EVEN...
HAD JUST PULLED OUT FROM INTERSECTION ONTO MAIN ROAD WHEN TRUCK DEVELOPED A SEVERE MISFIRE. I PULLED OVER IMMEDIATELY AND UPON INSPECTION FOUND THE THIRD SPARK PLUG ON THE RIGHT SIDE HAD BLOWN OUT OF THE HOLE. WE TOOK IT TO A GARAGE LESS THAN A BLOCK AWAY AND THEY WERE ABLE TO INSTALL A NEW PLUG AND COIL PACK BUT SOME OF THE THREADS IN THE HEAD HAD BEEN DAMAGED. WE WERE TOLD THEY DIDN'T KNOW HOW LONG IT WOULD HOLD. OLD PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. I UNDERSTAND THIS IS A PROBLEM ON THE FORD TRITON ENGINES AND THINK A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED .THANK YOU *TR

IN 2008, THE MANIFOLD GASKET FAILED ONCE AGAIN. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 86,000.

I HAVE A 1999 FORD F-150, 5.4L V-8 TRITON. IT HAS SPIT THE NUMBER EIGHT SPARK PLUG TWICE, AND NOW THE NUMBER SEVEN PLUG HAS BEEN EJECTED MULTIPLE TIMES. LUCKILY, MY WIFE AND KIDS WEREN'T WITH ME WHEN THESE EVENTS HAPPENED. AFTER NUMEROUS INQUIRIES WITH FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONS I WAS RUDELY INSTRUCTED NOT TO CONTACT THEM FURTHER. HER TRUCK HAD 65,909 MILES ON IT. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER AND PAID THEM $3600 FOR THE REPAIRS AND A NEW HEAD ASSEMBLY. I'M A RETIRED AUTO TECHNICIAN WITH 50 YEARS IN THE BUSINESS, SO, I CONSIDER MYSELF KNOWLEDGEABLE. NOW THERE IS A LOUD ENGINE TICK AT STARTUP. ALL MY MILES ARE INTERSTATE MILES, AND THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN PROPERLY MAINTAINED AND BABIED SINCE PURCHASE. SPARK PLUG PULLED OUT OF THE MOTOR. THE COST WAS GREAT. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT FORD KNOWS OF THE PROBLEM AND DID NOT NOTIFY THE VEHICLE OWNERS OF THE ISSUE. IT IS ALSO MY UNDERSTANDING THAT IF THE SPARK PLUGS HAD BEEN CHANGED THIS PROBLEM WOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED. THE PLUG PULLED OUT AT 81,000 MILES. THE PLUG CHANGES ARE RECOMMENDED AT 100,000 MILES. THIS PROCEDURE COST ME WELL OVER $3000.00. IF FORD HAD NOTIFIED ME, AND I HAD GOTTEN THE PLUGS CHANGED THE COST WOULD HAVE BEEN CONSIDERABLY LESS THAT $1000.00. I WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER SHIP THAT THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A FIRE. AS SOON AS THE NOISE WAS HEARD I SHUT THE TRUCK ENGINE OFF. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION THAT SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF. DRIVER NOTICED A BROWNISH LIQUID LEAKING FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE WHILE PARKED. DRIVER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE HEAD GASKET BLEW OUT, AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
I HAVE A 1999 F150 TRUCK AND A 1999 EXPEDITION, BOTH HAVE A 5.4L ENGINE AND BOTH HAVE OIL LEAKS ON THE CYLINDER HEAD GASKETS, THEY BOTH HAVE ABOUT 60,000 MILES. *JB
WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IDLING, A FIRE STARTED IN THE ENGINE. THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION. *JB
WHILE DRIVING , SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING. THE REPAIR SHOP PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC AND INDICATED THAT IT COULD BE THE SPARK PLUGS. THE SPARK PLUGS WERE REPLACED, BUT DIDN'T CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE BUTTERFLY TO THE FUEL INJECTION ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE ENGINE MOTOR FROZE AND STOPPED THE FLOW OF THE FUEL, WHICH CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE FUEL INJECTION THUS DAMAGING THE TIMING BELT, AND PISTON. THE ENTIRE ENGINE MOTOR FELL APART FROM THE INSIDE OUT PER THE MECHANIC. *JB

I OWN A 1999 F150 WITH A 5.4 LITER MOTOR THAT HAS A DESIGN FLAW (ALSO AFFECTS THAT ZTEC AND 4.6L, 5.4L V8 AND ALSO THEIR BIG V10 MOTORS): THIS IS THE 2ND TIME MY SPARKPLUG HAS BLOWN OUT THE TOP OF MY ENGINE AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT 30 MPH, THERE WAS A LOUD RATTLING SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE. WHEN THE SPARK PLUGS WERE REMOVED FROM THE ENGINE, THEY WERE COVERED WITH ANTI FREEZE. ENGINE HEAD GASKETS WERE LEAKING. FORD HAS A CURRENT TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN CONCERNING THIS ENGINE PROBLEM. *NLM

THE SPARK PLUG IN THE 3RD CYLINDER BACK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE BLEW OUT OF THE ENGINE CAUSING 1800 DOLLARS DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
