My 2018 Ford Escape with 1.5L Turbo engine was diagnosed with coolant Intrusion into the cylinder bores. Wife states engine stalled out at busy intersection and was able to restart engine and barely get home. Next day engine would not even crank over. Towed vehicle to Ford dealership and it was diagnosed as coolant Intrusion into cylinder bores. Dealer says we need a new engine. The cost is $9400. Not even a year ago campaign 19B37 and 21N12 letter send to me but dealership said all was good. Well, it's not good and my wife could have been in a serious accident due to vehicle stalling out. I am getting the repairs done at an independent repair shop now but looking for some compensation for these repairs that Ford Motor Company has declined. How can you help me in this case?
With 53,000 miles, this vehicle was brought in 5/6/2021 to address recall 19B37 (reprogram powertrain control module due to coolant intrusion into the cylinder bores). The recall was performed at this time. At this time, this was my company car (leased by Cardinal Health and managed through Element Fleet). I purchased the vehicle in April of 2022. I never received any additional information from Ford regarding this recall or the issue with the coolant. My company confirmed they never received any further information about this issue either. With 96,000 miles, I began having issues with the vehicle on May of 2023. The engine ran "rough" and was louder than usual. The "Engine Fault Service Now" light then appeared, so I brought it to a local shop and they replaced the spark plugs. The vehicle ran somewhat better for a couple of days, but was still a little louder than usual....
Going south bound on interstate 81 in Winchester Va. The engine check light came on and the engine started to miss and lose power, and the engine was vibrating really bad. I was able to get the car to the side of the road and got the car to the dealer on 5/16/2023 where they checked it out. I was advised it needed a new engine. The electrode on spark plug 2 rusted off from the block as a result of a crack in block. They replaced the engine
We bought a 2018 Ford Escape 1.5 ecoboost. It was a one time owner. It had about 60,000 miles on it when we got it from a dealership in Montgomery AL. We drove the car for almost 2 months with no problems. All of a sudden out of no where it started leaking coolant. And taking it to the dealership it said it was running hot and popped up a message on the dash that said “high engine temperature drive safely”. The dealership replaced the engine under some kind of warranty with Ford, but I received my vehicle back unfixed. We have two young children and no vehicle to replace it. We are paying nearly 19,000 dollars for the car that we can not drive. $498 a month and $161 insurance a month. The prices to fix these Ford vehicles is outrages and money some people do not have. It...
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic for service on the throttle body and was informed by the mechanic that there was white smoke coming from the exhaust. The contact was informed that the head gasket needed to be replaced. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000.
The contact's wife owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light started to flash then remained illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that on occasions, he checked under the hood and noticed that on multiple occasions that the coolant level was low and refilled the coolant reservoir. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that coolant had leaked into cylinder #3, causing a misfire. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced however, the contact stated that the diagnostic test was incomplete, and the vehicle remained at the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the warranty was out of the parameters. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 102,000.
On Sunday, I was driving home from the store(about a 5 mile trip), I was less than 1/4 mile from home when engine temperature warning came up I immediately turned the engine off and coasted home in neutral. Lifted the hood and saw coolant was low. Filled reservoir. Monday morning was going to head to dealership about 2 miles away. Vehicle would not start and Engine Fault error came up. Vehicle started on 2nd try and drove to shop. After diagnosis today was Told coolant leaked into cylinders deed causing misfire and only fix was engine replacement at $7100. I bought the car brand new and have had just over 5 years. Called Ford and am waiting to see if resolution. Not crossing my fingers based on what I have read.
I took the car into the dealer for a check engine light which was misfire on cylinder 3. It seemed like he knew that it would be a cracked block and it was. The repair is a $6,000 engine. This is ridiculous. I had the same model engine previously and it would probably still be running if the car hadn’t been totaled. If you look on the internet there are many complaints of the same issue. Ford knows that this is a problem and refuses to stand behind this engine. I didn’t buy the extended warranty because I have never needed it. I would settle for paying 1/2 the cost, because I have over 100,000 miles on the car. But 6 thousand seems excessive for a known problem.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated while the vehicle had a routine oil check, the mechanic stated that the coolant was low. The vehicle was diagnosed but failure was found. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but did not provide any assistance and advised to contact NHTSA. The failure mileage was 21,000.

The contact stated that the engine started overheating and a message to “Pull Over and Park” was displayed. The contact stated that he continued driving to his residence. The vehicle was not drivable after parking the vehicle. The contact towed the vehicle to an independent mechanic, where the vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact towed the vehicle to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately...
The engine isn’t working. Took to Ford Dealership in Selma, Alabama and they told us it will cost 10k to fix the car and I still owe 15K for the car. It started out not cranking. It is not safe for a woman to be in a car and not crank to get me home back and forth to work everyday. I have only had the car for 4 years. The warning lamp came in for me on Monday, June 5th, 2023 and at that time my husband immediately got it to the Ford Dealership on Thursday of that week so he could get a dolly to take it there. The car is at the dealership in Selma right now. We don’t have an invoice yet. Paying 10k for a new engine is almost paying the car off on what I owe on it. My husband is trying to find...
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated that upon his wife starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated. After a visual inspection, the contact observed a failure with the second cylinder spark plug, which he replaced. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred and that he became aware that the coolant level was low. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined there was engine damage due to coolant intrusion, resulting in a cracked engine block. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The contact related the failure to Ford's Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N12 (Power Train). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 73,600.
What happened was I was Driving down the street at thirty miles per hour and the speed limit changed to thirty five miles per hour so I put my foot on the gas and nothing happened. The engine did not rev and the speed did not go up the speed kept going down. Quit thinking made me push the auto start off button and then I pushed on the gas again and the Car speed went up as I pushed on the gas pedal. There were no cars in front of me or beside me in the next lane but there was a pickup truck behind me. He was far enough back that he did not have to step on his breaks. This scared me to death and if quick thinking had not been a part of the situation for the auto off button, Then I would have easily caused...
2 weeks after our warranty expired for the power train we experienced failure with a misfire of Cylinder 1. We replaced all of the spark plugs at around 41,000 miles. 1 month into replacement cyclinder 1 misfired again, we replaced the spark plug thinking it was that and also the coil. 2 months after we are having the same issue, replaced the spark plug again, and the code will not go away, the check Englishwoman light continues to flash. I brought it to the dealership where it has been preliminarily determined I have a coolant intrusion in cylinder 1 and a new king block will be required at the tune of about 9k. There was tsb 19-2346 on my car and nothing was done to prevent this from happening. We suddenly lost all coolant around the same time we replaced the spark plugs as well. There was no visible leak....
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated while her son was driving 65 MPH, the temperature gauge began to raise quickly. Additionally, the “High Engine Temperature - Stop Vehicle Immediately” message was displayed. The driver parked the vehicle on the side of the road for an hour before continuing to drive to his destination. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the thermostat to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but continued to experience the failure. The contact towed the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the engine to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.
The dealership, All American Chevrolet of San Angelo TX, sold me this car 12/14/2022 without fixing the recall that was issued 6/2022. My battery has died 2x within a month, my check engine light came on yesterday but there are only 68k miles on the car. It's against federal law for a dealership to sell a car with an open recall, isn't it?
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while the transmission was shifted into Reverse(R) or Drive(D), the vehicle was shaking. The check engine warning light was illuminated, and the "Pull Over" message was displayed. Additionally, there was white smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. The contact's boyfriend, an independent mechanic, diagnosed that there was a misfire in cylinder # 1. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 93,400.

The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The...
Purchased vehicle brand new. Transmission light is coming on. There is jerking while driving and hard to put in gear. I have the premium extended warranty on car. At 58,099 miles the light has been on. I travel for work and have tried to get an appointment for repair in GA. FL, and two places in AK no one can get me in in a reasonable time. All a least 3 weeks to a month out which leaves me unable to travel for work because I can't afford to rent a car for a month. This is a inconvenience. They say they have so many cars with engine issues in the shop. Ford needs to take full responsibility for this. There should be a recall on these cars. I am almost forced to buy a new car just to be able to work. Ive called my warranty and Ford head...
Defective engine block, getting cooling leaking into the engine causing overheating and creating hazard of starting fire , when got tested in the dealership they found problem and we’ve been told they found a recall on that issue but they cannot fix this right now due to shortage of parts could be months could be years and now car is not safe to drive park at the dealership , Ford dealership can only provide a rental car for the time car being fixed after parts comes in
The check engine light came on so I checked the code and it indicated a misfire in cylinder 2. I was headed to the shop for a tuneup when the temperature gage shot up to hot and the engine lost power. It's pouring white smoke from the exhaust and is not drivable. The coolant was completely gone but no leaks found. It's running hot on startup and won't go over 10mph. There was no warning lights until it was too late. The vehicle stalled in the middle of the road and a car almost wrecked into me and my daughter.
The antifreeze is leaking into the cylinders. My car has been diagnosed as being HYDRO-LOCKED. This happened in March. I took the car to REA Ford in Monticello where it was diagnosed. A claim was submitted to the warranty company who said they are not responsible for the repair because the manufacturer knew of this defect and had a Customer Satisfaction Program 21N12 - Short Block Replacement After Coolant Intrusion. This is dated June 09, 2022. There were program limits set in place which ended on November 30, 2022. This issue occurred with my car after this date. It is the same issue and I am being told by everyone that they are not responsible for the repair. The car will not start and had to be towed to REA Ford in Monticello where it is currently sitting. The check engine light came on. I took it to be diagnosed...
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated that there was delayed response while starting the vehicle. Additionally, the vehicle sputtered while driving; with the failure recurring increasingly while in reverse(R). The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who informed the contact that the battery, the starter, the spark plugs, and the ignition coils needed to be replaced. However, after further inspection of the vehicle, the dealer determined that coolant was leaking into the engine, and the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the failure was related to Ford Campaign Numbers: 19B37 and 21N12; however, the service campaigns had expired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 125,800.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at speeds of 35 MPH or lower, the vehicle was hesitating and jerking. The RPM’s would erroneously be reduced. The failure also occurred while the vehicle was idling. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that coolant was leaking into cylinder #1. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be rebuilt or replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 82,915.
The car began overheating while in operation. The driver immediately pulled over and shut the car off, and the car was towed to the dealership. It was discovered that there was a crack in the gasket, allowing coolant to slowly leak into the engine over time. The engine seized and is no longer operable. This is, as confirmed by my Ford mechanic, and KNOWN and COMMON issue with this particular year/model. Ford is aware that this is a manufacturing defect and has not issued a recall at this time.
Coolant leaked into engine causing engine replacement
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated that after purchasing the vehicle while driving at an undisclosed speed, the front driver’s side seat pivoted back requiring the contact to stand on her left foot to reach the brake pedal while the seat inadvertently adjusted backward without warning. The contact then stated that the rear passenger’s and driver’s side door failed to open, and the front passenger’s side door intermittently failed to open. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle started to shake, and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to Midas where it was diagnosed that the air intake tubes were glued together causing a lack of intake air. Additionally, cylinder #3 had misfired. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 101,918.
In my 2018 ford escape, that I purchased only two years ago, my check engine light came on for the first time. I took my car to the dealership, and they stated that there was a coolant leak and had leaked into my cylinder 4 causing the vehicle to misfire and not function properly. Due to this, the dealership stated that this repair would cost me 8500 dollars to repair this issue and that was by replacing the short block of the engine.
In the past 2 weeks, the check engine light has come on and then turned off several times. April 7 the car overheated and it was found to have no engine coolant and a powertrain warning turned on. After adding coolant, the car ran and errors disappeared. We’ve been checking the coolant every day and have had to continually add coolant although no leak seems to be occurring. Made an appointment at a shop to have it checked out and in the days leading up to that appointment, it started running roughly. April 12 it took several attempts to start and a powertrain warning came on and it wasn’t running at full power. After turning the car off, when re started, error disappeared. Repair shop today said the engine coolant was leaking into the engine cylinders and that the engine needs to be replaced.
The transmission was found to have a leak by my personal mechanic. The suv does not have a dipstick to check if fluid is low so a few weeks ago it start making noise and running weird. It would hesitate while driving, slow acceleration, even sputtering to the point of possible shutting off. Sometimes I am not able to reverse out of the way of traffic. It is dangerous especially if my children are in the car. My mechanic said that at first he just thought it was low on fluid and then he seen a puddle on the pan that collects underneath but he assumed it was oil but that wouldn't be because I just got an oil change from the dealership. Come to find out the transmission has had a slow leak that I would have never even noticed because there is a collection panel underneath. I've tried...
While driving vehicle on highway at highway speeds of 65 MPH. Vehicle check engine light started flashing. Vehicles slowed to 20 MPH. We almost got hit by 6 different vehicles and caused a pile up. Large cloud of black smoke left from tailpipes. Was stranded on side of highway. Was told by Ford that vehicle needed a new short block. This is the 3 engine for this vehicle with only 37000 miles.
I had my adaptive cruise control on while driving on a highway and suddenly lost power/acceleration. I was able to limp the car back home and the check engine light came on. I took it in to get the error code read, which prompted that there was an issue with the high pressure fuel pump. I got that replaced by our normal service provider and picked up my vehicle. While driving the vehicle again (with adaptive cruise on), I lost acceleration/power. Since I wasn't in the area, I had the vehicle towed back to the service provider where the replaced fuel pump had "collapsed onto itself and broke", which luckily didn't cause serious injury. In this state, the service provider told me it was unsafe to drive. With the newest fuel pump, everything seemed fine for a few days in my daily travels. We were on our way to a...
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 MPH, the vehicle made a loud knocking sound. The vehicle was restarted, and the check engine warning light illuminated. Additionally, whenever the A/C was activated, there was a squealing sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer informed the contact that the warranty had expired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a complaint was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 58,200.
Every morning after starting, a thick cloud of white smoke emits from the exhausts. It clears up after a minute or so but it happens in both hot and cold weather. Took the car to the mechanic and it was determined there is a head gasket leak. Vehicle runs fine and does not overheat. Upon further research, i noticed it is a common occurrence with Ford Escape owners and the manufacturer isn't doing anything about it.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated while starting the vehicle the contact heard an unknown sound coming from the vehicle and the vehicle started to shake, followed by the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the dealer stated that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was out of warranty and did not provide any assistance. The failure mileage was 137,000.
Engine over heated. Had diagnostics ran on it and it came back with 9 error codes. Then had a block diagnostics done on it and it came back with 4 dealer codes. My 2018 Ford Escape is at the ford dealership as of 3/26/2023. Engine light is on.
The warning light came on. Car over heated, no steam, but antifreeze leaked by the wheel. There were no leaks to be found, so change the reservoir. Took the car out to test. After 30 minutes of driving car over heated again. I then took the car to the shop. I was told several need a new engine. Several codes showed up on diagnostic test.
The vehicle started running rough - thought I had gotten bad gas. Took it and had it scanned and it read #2 ignition coil was bad. Had it replaced and it got worse so mechanic took it off. They found the coolant was low and then discovered blown head gasket. Coolant was running inside of motor and not outside onto the ground. I have found numerous reports on this same failure of the Ecoboost 1.5L engines. Messages came up and I took it to my mechanic.
I was driving around 50 mph. A notice popped up that said service engine now. It then started to run hot. I pulled over on the side of the road and the car wouldn’t start. The car had no coolant in it at all when my help arrived. It was empty. I now have a message on my Ford app that says power train malfunction. I haven’t had this car two years. My safety was at risk because my daughter was in the car and it started to run hot. I thought my car was going to catch fire. I can’t afford to fix this when thousands of other people have had this same issue.
The contact's fiancé owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that coolant was intruding into the engine. There was a misfire in cylinder #3. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the coil pack and spark plugs. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.
Continuous low coolant level. Every 3 weeks have to replenish coolant. Have seen others having same issue.
Another driver ran stop sign and hit middle of car, mostly the left door behind drivers seat. The back and passager airbags released but the driver side airbag didn't fully release. I didn't know at the time that this was weird and was actually relieved it didn't. Since then, my son's dad drove my suv and told me that the front windshield may not have been bonded correctly, he has to put additional force on the breaks and the engine makes random noises whenever it does, it looses power and he has to put the pedal to the metal. He says since my suv only has 18,000 miles, it shouldn't be doing these things. It also burns through coolant. I don't know if any other fords have issues likes this too.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an unknown speed, a temperature warning message appeared on the instrument panel. The vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was first towed to an independent mechanic and later to a dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that coolant had leaked into cylinder #2. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that there were no recalls on the VIN regarding the engine. The vehicle was diagnosed with engine failure and remained in the possession of the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 63,500.

The fly wheel broke at the factory welds, and it is not covered by the warranty, but the same flywheel is used in the 2020 Ford Fusion and is being recalled for defects and covered under warranty.
On Sat, Jan 14, started my car, it misfired on startup. Sun 1/15/23, started it, it misfired again. ‘Ck Engine light’ came on.Went to Advanced Auto Parts- code = P0304, Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected. Immed stopped driving vehicle-scheduled appt w/mechanic. Tuesday, Jan 17, drove vehicle to 1st Stop Auto, they diagnosed it, another code came up=P0316, Misfire Detected on Start-up (First 1000 Revolutions). They pulled all recalls, found out there's Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) on my make and model dated 12/2019. Diagnosis of vehicle from mechanic: “Found coolant was low due to it getting into Cylinder 4. TSB for replacing the engine for this issue.”. I picked up vehicle and drove it to Pinnacle Ford to have them diagnose it. In 12/2019, Ford distributed an INTERNAL Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) to their service departments regarding this major issue, WITH NO RECALL, then in 2020, a Class Action Lawsuit was filed...
