WHILE BACKING INTO PARKING PLACE, PASSENGER SIDE TIE ROD END POPPED OFF JOINT CAUSING ME TO LOOSE STEERING CONTROL AND NEARLY RESULTED IN A COLLISION.
I MADE A RIGHT TURN INTO A PARKING LOT AND THE PASSENGER TIE ROD BROKE. MY TRUCK WAS TOWED TO THE DODGE DEALER. UPDATED STEERING LINKAGE INSTALLED.
WHILE DRIVING MY 2007 DODGE 3500 RAM 6.7L DUAL, 6SPD MANUAL, PULLING MY CAMPER (WELL WITHIN TOWING LIMITS,) I WENT OVER A BUMP ON AN OVERPASS. THE VEHICLE BEGAN JUMPING AROUND VIOLENTLY AND I LEFT THE ROADWAY DUE TO LOSS OF STEERING AND BRAKE FUNCTION. THE EVEN WAS SO VIOLENT, MY RADIATOR BROKE, AND I LOST ALL OF MY COOLANT. MY "FRONT END" WAS DESTROYED, AS WELL AS MANY SYSTEMS DAMAGED. THE INTERIOR OF THE TRUCK SUFFERED DAMAGE AS WELL. THERE ARE MANY NOISES, VIBRATIONS, AND SMELLS THAT HAVE NOT GONE AWAY. I FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM SO COMMON, THAT IT HAS A NICKNAME, "THE DEATH WOBBLE." I FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS A SAFETY RECALL BEGINNING THE YEAR AFTER MY MODEL. AS WITH MANY OTHERS ON THIS WEB SITE,RANDOMLY AFTER HITTING A BUMP IN THE ROAD MY TRUCK STARTS TO BOUNCE UNCONTROLLABLY ALMOST RUNNING OF THE ROAD.I HAVE TO SLOW DOWN TO A CRAWL TO MAKE IT STOP.HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO COMPLAIN FOR THIS TO BECOME A REAL ISSUE.
WE BOUGHT THE TRUCK OUT OF STATE FROM THE CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP IN BONHAM TX AND THEY CLAIMED IT WAS A LOW MILEAGE TRUCK, WITH NO ISSUES. IT HAD BEEN PURCHASED NEW FROM THEM, ALL SERVICES DONE AND THEN TRADED-IN FOR A NEW TRUCK. WE ASKED TO HAVE AN OUTSIDE INSPECTOR CHECK IT OUT BUT WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE ONE FROM THE SMALL TOWN AREA WITHIN THE ALLOTTED TIME THEY WANTED US TO PICK IT UP. WHEN WE WENT TO GET THE TRUCK, IT WENT FOR A SHORT TEXT RIDE AND THEN COMPLETED PAPERWORK AND RUSHED OUT THE DOOR. WE HAD ASSUMED THAT THE DEALER DID A COMPLETE OVERALL INSPECTION AND REPAIR OF ANY ISSUES WITH THE TRUCK. ON OUR WAY BACK TO CA THE TRUCK WATER PUMP HAD BROKE CAUSING THE SERPENTINE BELT TO FALL OFF AND LOOSE STEERING ALMOST CAUSING THE TRUCK TO WRECK. WE TOWED IT TO A...
WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY, WHEN I'M AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND I HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE TRUCK SHAKES AND BOUNCES UNCONTROLLABLY UNTIL I SLOW TO AROUND 50 MPH. I HAVE HAD BALL JOINTS, TIE RODS, SHOCKS AND STEERING STABILIZER REPLACED, PLUS NEW TIRES AND MULTIPLE ALIGNMENTS PERFORMED. MY MASTER MECHANIC SAID NON OF THIS WILL REMEDY THE ISSUE. HAD UPPER BALL JOINTS REPLACE ON MY TRUCK ON 12-12-2014, PASSED VERMONT INSPECTION IN JUNE OF 2015, TOOK TRUCK IN FOR INSPECTION ON 6-10-2016, WON'T PASS VERMONT INSPECTION BECAUSE OF UPPER BALL JOINTS, ABOUT 2000 MILES WERE PUT ON TRUCK SINCE REPAIRS IN 2014.

I WAS TOLD THEY DID NOT HAVE BOTH PARTS SO THE APPOINTMENT WAS SET FOR ABOUT 4-5 WEEKS LATER. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP THE AIR BAG RECALL WAS FIXED BUT THEY REFUSED TO FIX THE RECALL ON THE STEERING LINKAGE. THEY STATED MY TRUCK HAD THE "OLD DODGE PART" SO THAT WAS NOT COVERED. THIS PART IF FAILS WILL CAUSE ME TO HAVE NO STEERING CONTROL. I HAD A CHRYSLER CERTIFIED MECHANIC LOOK AT THE STEERING PART ON MY TRUCK AND HE STATED IT WAS SO BAD HE WOULD BE SCARED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. I HAD RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE N62/ NHTSA 13V-528. I CALLED DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES TO SET UP AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE CHECKED. THE DEALER STATED THAT I WAS ON A WAITING LIST FOR THE PART. IT HAS BEEN A FEW YEARS AND NUMEROUS CALLS LATER AND THE VEHICLE PART STILL HAS NOT BEEN CHECKED AND OR REPAIRED.

THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE AXLE FRACTURED AT THE TRANSFER BOX AND DAMAGED THE STEERING LINKAGE. AS A RESULT, THE TRANSFER BOX, STEERING LINKAGE, AXLE, AND FIVE SENSORS WERE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. IN ADDITION, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING WHILE TOWING A LARGE TRAILER. THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY RESTARTED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES, BUT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000.
MY HUSBAND AND I WERE DRIVING DOWN SOUTH PADRE ISLAND DRIVE AND THE TRUCK STARTED SHAKING FROM THE FRONT END. MY HUSBAND LOST CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL AND COULD NOT CONTROL NOR STOP THE SHAKING OF THE TRUCK. HE HAD TO SLOW DOWN AND STEER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. EVERY SINCE THE INCIDENT HAPPENED, OUR TRUCK HAS NOT BEEN MOVED BECAUSE IT WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION DUE TO THE STEERING AND LOSING CONTROL PROBLEM. THE TRUCK SHAKES REAL BAD AND FEELS LIKE IT IS FALLING APART WHEN THIS PROBLEM OCCURS. SO THEREFORE, IT CAN NOT BE DRIVEN BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. WE TOOK IT IN TO THE DODGE DEALERSHIP AFTER IT HAPPENED AND THEY DENIED HELPING US AND TEST DRIVING IT...
IGNITION WILL NOT CRANK. WE HAVE 2 KEYS FOR IT, NEITHER WORKS THE FIRST TIME. TAKES 10-30 MINUTES TO GET THE KEY TO TURN. I HAVE SEEN THERE ARE RECALLS FOR IGNITIONS FOR THE SAME YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL AS OURS. OUR VIN DOES NOT COME UP AS HAVING THE RECALL.
LOADED AT 18000 LBS GVW WHILE TOWING A TANDEM AXLE TRAILER THE VEHICLE DIED. UPON LOSING ALL ELECTRICAL POWER THE ENGINE DIED CAUSING THE LOSS OF POWER ASSISTED BRAKES AND POWER ASSISTED STEERING. FORTUNATELY THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE WAS AROUND 5 MPH. I'M 6 FOOT TALL AND OVER 200 LBS AND I WAS UNABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE PARKING AREA. UPON LEAVING THE VEHICLE I IMMEDIATELY SMELLED ELECTRONICS BURNING. I OPENED THE HOOD AND IMMEDIATELY DISCONNECTED THE POSITIVE POST OF THE TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE (TIPM). I THEN REMOVED THE TIPM TO FIND A HOLE BURNT THROUGH THE SIDE AND THE CIRCUIT BOARD COVERED WITH BLACK SOOT. I HAD THE VEHICLE AND TRAILER TOWED TO CORBIN KY WHERE THERE WERE NO DODGE DEALERS WILLING TO WORK ON A VEHICLE OF THIS SIZE. NOR WOULD THEY STORE THE TRAILER FOR ME WHILE CONDUCTING THE REPAIR....

THE MOTOR SUDDENLY DIED AND THE WINDSHIELD WASHER STARTED SPRAYING , THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS STARTED OPERATING AND LOST POWER STEERING. I FINALLY COASTED THE TRUCK INTO A VACANT LOT AND STOPPED. SMOKE WAS BOILING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I OPENED THE HOOD AND FOUND THE FUSE BOX(TIPM MODULE) SMOKING. I RUSHED TO MY TOOL BOX FOR TOOLS AND AT THAT TIME THE TRUCK MOTOR STARTED CRANKING AND TRYING TO START EVEN WITH THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. LUCKILY THE TRUCK WAS NOT IN GEAR AND I FINALLY GOT ALL BATTERY CABLES UNHOOKED FROM BOTH BATTERIES. ALSO THE HORN WAS HONKING INTERMITTENTLY AS IF THE THEFT ALARM WAS ACTIVATED. WE CALLED BACK THE FIRST OF FEB AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE TRUCK REPAIRED ON FEB 14. WHEN I DROVE TO THE DEALER THEY JUST LOOKED AT IT AND SAID IT DID NEED REPAIRED AND SAID THEY WOULD PUT ME ON THE LIST. I SAID THAT WE WERE TOLD IT WOULD BE FIXED.
