I HAVE A 2002 TRAILBLAZER THAT IS CURRENTLY GETTING IT'S 3RD TRANSMISSION INSTALLED DUE TO FAILURE. THE FIRST ONE WAS REPLACED IN 2005 AT 48,000 MILES. I WAS TOLD BY GM IT WAS REPLACED WITH A NEW ONE, WHICH I UNDERSTAND HAS A 100,000 MILE WARRANTY. I AM NOW HAVING ANOTHER ONE PUT IN AFTER 80.,000 MILES BEING PUT ON THE NEW ONE AT A COST OF $3000. WHEN I CONTACTED GM REGARDING THIS I WAS TOLD: "AT SOME POINT THE CUSTOMER HAS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR OWN VEHICLE, GM IS NOT GOING TO ASSIST YOU WITH THIS ISSUE". THIS WILL ABSOLUTELY BE THE LAST GM PRODUCT I OWN. *TR
I'M DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WITH TRAFFIC BEHIND ME. SUDDENLY MY RPM JOLT UP TO FIVE A HORRIBLE NOISE COMES FROM ENGINE AND I LOOSE ALL POWER. DRIVING MY SON HOME FROM FOOTBALL PRACTICE AND HEARD A WEIRD SOUND AND NOTICED THE GEARS WOULD NOT SHIFT IN THE TRANSMISSION. I TRIED TO PUT THE VEHICLE INTO REVERSE AND IT WOULD NOT WORK. 2002 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER WITH 86,000 MILES ON IT, NOTICED A LARGE AMOUNT OF FLUID UNDER VEHICLE WHILE PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO OUR MECHANIC AND WAS ADVISED THAT TWO OF THE FOUR LINES THAT CARRY THE TRANSMISSION FLUID ARE CRACKED/CORRODED. *TR
DRIVING AT POSTED 55 MPH OUR 2002 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER WITH 50,000 MILES ON IT STARTED TO BLOW SMOKE BEHIND IT. BEFORE WE COULD PULL OFF THE ROAD SAFELY, THE ENGINE RPM WENT CRAZY AND THE TRANSMISSION STOPPED WORKING. IT WAS LATER FOUND THAT THE TRANSMISSION COOLER LINE FAILED DUE TO CORROSION AND SPRAYED OIL ON THE EXHAUST SYSTEM RESONATOR. ON CAREFUL INSPECTION, THE TRANS COOLER LINES ARE CORRODED IN MANY PLACES. THE LINES ARE SO CLOSE TO THE EXHAUST SYSTEM THAT AN INSULATION MATERIAL HAD BEEN PLACED OVER THE LINES AND MAY HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO HOLDING MOISTURE AND ACCELERATING THE RUST THROUGH. I AM WAITING FOR NEW LINES AND DO NOT KNOW IF THE TRANSMISSION IS DESTROYED. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER. WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH, THERE WAS AN UNUSUAL INCREASE IN ENGINE RPMS TO 4,000 AND THE VEHICLE DECELERATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE THIRD GEAR WAS BURNED OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT BELIEVED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 03V075000 (POWER TRAIN: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE HOWEVER, SHE WAS UNABLE TO CONFIRM IF HER VIN WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,570 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 105,580.

I HAVE AN 02 CHEVY TRAILBLAZER. I PURCHASED IT IN 08. THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE IS DEFECTIVE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP 3 MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT IT TO REPORT THAT THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE INDICATOR LIGHT WAS SWITCHING AROUND ON ITS OWN AND CAUSING THE TRUCK TO PUT ITSELF IN 4WD WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WASN'T A PROBLEM AND THE 4WD BOX NEEDED TO BE RESET BUT IT WAS NOTHING THAT WOULD CAUSE ANY PROBLEMS. I TOOK IT TO A REPAIR SHOP AND WAS TOLD THAT MY TRANSMISSION LINES WERE RUSTED THROUGH, THUS THE REASON FOR THE LEAK. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE TRAILBLAZERS AND THAT IT WOULD BE ABOUT $500 TO REPLACE THE LINES. THE LINES HAVE BEEN REDESIGNED SINCE 2002 AND INSTEAD OF ONLY HAVING TO REPLACE THE TWO THAT ARE BAD, ALL FOUR WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. *TR

HE SPECULATED THAT THE RETAINER CLIP, THAT HOLDS THE SHIFTER CABLE TO THE GEAR SELECTOR ARM ON THE TRANSMISSION, HAD FRACTURED. HE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND MY CHEVY 2002 TRAILBLAZER WOULD NOT DRIVE RIGHT AND IT STARTED MAKING A LOUD SCREECHING NOISE AND THEN I PULLED OVER AND I COULD NOT GO IN REVERSE. I THEN FIGURES I LOST THE TRANSMISSION. NO WARNING. THANK GOD I WAS TRAVELING SLOW AT THE TIME. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL MAJOR DEFECTS WITH THIS VEHICLE. CHEVY MUST HAVE A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM. LAST WEEK I HAD TO PUT IN A NEW FUEL FILTER, A COUPLE MONTHS AGO IT WAS FRONT HUB BEARING. I HAD TO GET A NEW STARTER, BRAKES AND ROTORS EVERY YEAR, CLUTCH FAN. ON 11/14/07 I PURCHASED A "02 TRAILBLAZER FROM SALISBURY CHEVROLET, IN SCOTIA, NY. ON DECEMBER 21, 2007 I HAD THE TRANSFER SWITCH REPLACED BECAUSE THE 4WD WOULD RANDOMLY SWITCH FROM 2WD TO 4LO OR AWD. I NEVER HAD TO USE THE 4WD LAST WINTER, SNOW FALLS WEREN'T THAT BAD. WENT TO SWITCH IT ON THIS YEAR ON 12/19 AND COME TO FIND OUT THAT MY 4WD WAS NOT FUNCTIONING. TOOK IT THE DEALER AND IT WILL COST ME $600 TO REPAIR. THE "SERVICE 4WD" LIGHT NEVER CAME ON. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE ENGINE REVVED AND WOULD NOT CHANGE GEARS. THE CONTACT ARRIVED HOME AND TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. WHEN HE RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, IT WOULD ONLY DRIVE FORWARD AND NOT IN REVERSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOP AND THEY OPENED THE TRANSMISSION. THEY DISCOVERED SCRAPS OF METAL WHERE THE GEAR SHIFT WAS SHREDDED. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE SUN SHELL WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE AND A NEW TRANSMISSION WAS NEEDED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
I HAVE A 2002 CHEVY TRAILBLAZER WITH 80,000 MILES ON IT. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT I HAVE HAD THE TRANSMISSION SERVICED PER THE MANUFACTURES RECOMMENDATIONS. MY DEALERSHIP HAS RECORD OF THIS. WE HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE TRANSMISSION UP UNTIL 26 NOV 2008. WITHOUT WARNING THE TRANSMISSION MADE A LOUD BANG AND I LOST OVERDRIVE. I ALSO LOST REVERSE GEAR AFTER GETTING THE VEHICLE TO A PARKING LOT. THE TRANSMISSION SHOP (AAMCO) IS CHARGING ME 2095.00 TO REBUILD IT. THIS INCLUDES A NEW TORQUE CONVERTER. THIS IS RIDICULOUS FOR A VEHICLE WITH ONLY 80,000 MILES ON IT. GM SHOULD BE ASHAMED AS IT SEEMS THERE IS A LONG LIST OF FOLKS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AS ME. AS I WAS DRIVING UP A HILL IN OHIO, MY CAR TRIED TO DOWNSHIFT AND MADE A GRINDING SOUND AND I TEMPORARILY LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE CAUSING ME TO SWERVE OFF OF THE ROAD. TRANSMISSION WENT BAD WITH NO WARNING . WAS UNABLE TO PASS CARS AND LOSS OF POWER. *TR
DRIVING ALONG AND HEAR A THUMP, RPM'S REV UP. TRANSMISSION NOT SHIFTING PROPERLY. THEN, WHEN I TRY TO PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE, THERE IS NO REVERSE! THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED ON THIS VEHICLE. I'VE READ THAT THIS HAPPENED TO NUMEROUS PEOPLE, AND IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE SUNSHELL PART OF THE TRANSMISSION. FAILURE OF TRANSMISSION ON 9-3-08. NEAR COLLISION WITH ONCOMING CAR BECAUSE OF LOSS OF POWER AS I TURNED LEFT AND TRIED TO ACCELERATE ACROSS THE CENTER LINE. THE CAR WOULD NO LONGER MOVE FORWARD OR IN REVERSE. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP. THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS THE FAILURE OF THE SUN SHELL, A $39 DOLLAR PART. THE ENTIRE ORDEAL COST ME OVER $3600.00 AND CLIMBING. THE FAILURE OF THE SUN SHELL SHEARED OFF THE CHEAP GEARS AND THE FRAGMENTS FILTERED THROUGH MY TRANSMISSION CAUSING MORE DAMAGE. MY CAR HAD 76,094 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME. THE OWNERS MANUAL STATES THAT SERVICE FOR THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT DUE UNTIL 100,000 MILES. I THOUGHT I WAS BUYING A DEPENDABLE CAR. THIS, I CONSIDER A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. IF I WAS IN TRAFFIC ON THE FREEWAY AND THE TRANSMISSION FAILED I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN SERIOUS TROUBLE....

THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT SHE WAS EXPERIENCING THE SAME FAILURES MENTIONED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 01V334000 (POWER TRAIN:TRANSFER CASE (4-WHEEL DRIVE)). THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED HER THAT HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL; THEREFORE, SHE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COSTS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 141,660 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 141,694.
THERE WERE NO SIGNS OR SYMPTOMS OF THE TRANSMISSION SUNSHELL BREAKING. I NEVER TOWED ANYTHING, NO OFF ROAD DRIVING, NO HARD SHIFTING, NOTHING. I JUST WOKE UP WENT OUT TO GO TO THE STORE STARTED MY TRAILBLAZER AND NO REVERSE GEAR JUST A WHINNING NOISE. *TR
I BOUGHT A NEW 2002 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER IN JANUARY 2002. WHEN I REACHED 50,000 MILES IN 2004, REVERSE AND 4TH GEAR SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING. NOW I TOOK, AT 99,000 MILES, IT IN FOR A FLUID CHANGE AND WAS TOLD THE FLUID LOOKED BAD AND THEY WERE CONCERNED I MIGHT HAVE MORE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. I PURCHASED A 2002 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER FROM YOUNGER TOYOTA IN HAGERSTOWN, MD ON MAY 12, 2007. APPROXIMATELY A WEEK AND A HALF AFTERWARDS, I CONTACTED THE SALESMAN THAT SOLD US THE VEHICLE, PHIL YOUNG, COMPLAINING THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS MAKING A NOISE AND THE VEHICLE WASN'T SHIFTING CORRECTLY. HE TOLD ME TO BRING IT IN TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. MY HUSBAND (NOT CAR SAVVY) SAID THAT THE NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE UNDERSIDE OF THE TRAILBLAZER AND FELT IT MIGHT BE THE BRAKES CAUSING THE NOISE AND JERKING. I STUCK TO MY GUNS THAT IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION AND WANTED IT REPAIRED WHILE IT STILL HAD THE 30 DAY WARRANTY. YOUNGER DENIED IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION AND NOTED MY HUSBAND'S THEORY OF THE BRAKES, BUT NOTHING ABOUT MY COMPLAINT CONCERNING THE TRANSMISSION.
