THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 140,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE GEAR AUTOMATICALLY CHANGED AND THE ENGINE STALLED. THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL, SERVICE TRACTION, AND CHECK ENGINE INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, RESTARTED THE ENGINE, AND THE VEHICLE RETURNED TO NORMAL. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE DOOR LOCKS AUTOMATICALLY LOCKED AND UNLOCKED WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. MY REAR PASSENGER DOOR LOCK DISENGAGED FROM THE AUTOMATIC LOCKS AND CAN ONLY BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE. (SPRING 2016) MY TRACTION CONTROL IS PERIODICALLY SAYING THAT IT HAS MALFUNCTIONED BUT DOES NOT ALWAYS. WHEN THE LIGHT COMES ON, I FEEL A PULSE AS I'M BRAKING AND SOMETIMES IF IT COMES ON WHILE I'M DRIVING I'LL FEEL A SLIGHT JOLT THROUGH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. I ALSO HEAR A CLICK NOISE LIKE THE PEDAL MAY DISENGAGE. IT STARTED AFTER A MONTH. HOWEVER, RECENTLY THE PROBLEM RETURNED. IT WOULD HAPPEN WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS ON, OFF OR WHILE DRIVING. AN INSPECTION REVEALED, ALL FOUR LOCKING ACTUATORS WERE BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *JB

POWER DOOR LOCKS DO NOT WORK. I BOUGHT THIS BEAUTIFUL 2009 CHEVY MALIBU USED W 48,000 MILES, I HAD IT ONLY 2 MONTHS BEFORE PROBLEMS STARTED WITH THE LOCKS. ALL LOCKS WILL NOT OPEN OR CLOSE USING THE INTERIOR SWITCH NOR THE KEY FOB. IF YOU MANUALLY OPEN THE LOCK BY PULLING IT UP AND THEN START THE CAR AND PUT IT IN GEAR, THE LOCKS WILL ENGAGE AUTOMATICALLY AND LOCK THE DOOR PROPERLY. I CHECKED ONLINE AND EVERYONE SAYS THE PROBLEM WITH THE LOCKS IS THE BCM CONNECTION AND LACK OF DIELECTRIC GREASE.GM NEEDS TO ALSO FIX THE POWER LOCK ISSUE, IT IS VERY MUCH WELL KNOWN ON THE INTERNET. ANYWAY, CHECKING FORUMS IT SEEMS GM IS AWARE OF THE LOCKS FAILING CONSISTENTLY. WE ALL OWNERS OF CHEVY MALIBU'S HAVE THIS ISSUE WITH 2008, 2009, 2010 POWER LOCKS THAT MALFUNCTION. THE REAR DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS( BOTH DOORS ) STOPPED FUNCTIONING WITHIN SEVERAL MONTHS OF EACH OTHER. THIS MADE IT SUCH THAT THE REAR DOORS COULD NOT BE OPENED WITHOUT MANUALLY LIFTING THE LOCK BUTTON FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE. WHEN A CHILD WAS IN A CAR SEAT THE ONLY WAY TO OPEN THE REAR DOOR WAS TO GET BACK IN THE CAR, PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION, TURN IT TO THE ACCESSORY, LOWER THE REAR WINDOW, GET OUT OF THE CAR AND REACH IN TO PULL UP THE LOCK BUTTON. FORTUNATELY WE NEVER HAD AN EMERGENCY SITUATION WHERE THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A CRITICAL LIFE THREATENING PROBLEM. WE HAVE HAD THE ACTUATORS REPLACED ( AT SIGNIFICANT EXPENSE ). MY CONCERN IS MANY INDIVIDUALS, PROBABLY CAN NOT AFFORD THE COST AND WOULD FORGO THE REPAIR, THUS LEAVING THE PROBLEM AND ITS POSSIBLE CONSEQUENCES THERE. *TR

IN ADDITION, THE DOORS FAILED TO LOCK. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WERE MULTIPLE ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTIONS THAT NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURES RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE CONTACT WAS UNCERTAIN WHAT COMPONENTS WERE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. FIRST BRAND NEW CAR I EVER PURCHASED FOR MYSELF- A BEAUTIFUL 2009 MALIBU. WITHIN LESS THAN 2 YEARS OF PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR STARTED LOCKING/UNLOCKING WHEN IT WANTED TO. IT WASN'T LONG BEFORE IT STOPPED UN/LOCKING ALL TOGETHER AND I WAS STUCK HAVING TO CRAWL ACROSS FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE. I PAID A PRETTY PENNY TO HAVE IT FIXED AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT. AFTER FIXING THE SAME PROBLEM BUT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR THIS TIME WHICH THE DOOR WAS RARELY USED BECAUSE IT WAS JUST MYSELF AND MY DAUGHTER WHO RIDES IN THE BACKSEAT AND PAYING OUT OF POCKET AGAIN AND IT HAPPENING A 2ND TIME THAT MY PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT EVEN UNLOCK TO OPEN AGAIN. LAST TIME THIS ISSUE STARTED AND CONTINUED WITH KEY FOB NO LONGER WORKING, AND ONLY WAY TO LOCK DOORS WAS MANUALLY AND UNLOCK DRIVER'S DOOR WITH KEY AND MANUALLY UNLOCK REMAINING DOORS. DEALER REPLACED DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR AND KEY FOBS TO FIX PROBLEM. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING AGAIN AND WITHIN A FEW MONTHS OF ALREADY HAVING BEEN FIXED ONCE? IS THERE A RECALL FOR THIS? SINCE THE DOOR LOCKS WERE ACTING UP I PULLED THE FUSE AND DECIDED TO DO IT OLD SCHOOL AND USE THE KEY TO LOCK AND UNLOCK MY CAR. GOOD IDEA UNTIL I WAS LEAVING WORK AND THE KEY WOULDN'T OPEN THE DOOR. TO THE NHTSA PERSON REVIEWING THIS: PLEASE ASSIST ON THIS ISSUE, WE DEPEND ON YOU ESCALATING THIS ISSUE. THE PROBLEM CONTAINED HERE IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE POTENTIALLY CATASTROPHIC CONDITION WAITING TO HAPPEN. WE (OWNERS OF CHEVY MALIBUS OF YEARS 2008-09, AND 10') NEED AN INVESTIGATION TO BE INITIATED. SUMMARY OF PROBLEM: THE CHEVROLET MALIBU 2008,2009, AND 2010 HAS A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM WITH THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS (WHICH OPEN AND CLOSE THE LOCKS ON THE DOORS). FOR THE MALIBU YEAR 2009, AT APPROXIMATELY 35K MILE MARK ALL POWER LOCKS OF ALL FOUR DOORS RANDOMLY OPEN AND LOCK AT ANY VEHICLE FORWARD SPEED AT RANDOM TIMES. AN UNPRECEDENTED AMOUNT OF LACK OF SAFETY CONCERNS HAVE BEEN BROUGHT UP FROM COUNTLESS CUSTOMERS THROUGH DIFFERENT WEBSITES AND ARE BEGINNING TO COME IN A MORE FORMAL MANNER SUCH AS THIS PUBLIC TOOL. SAFETY FLAW: SINCE THE OPENING AN CLOSING OF THE LOCKS ON DOORS...
THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR LATCH FAILED TO OPEN. NEITHER THE INSIDE NOR OUTSIDE HANDLES WORKED. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT, ABUSE OR INDICATION OF IMMINENT FAILURE. IT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO EXIT THE VEHICLE; MY DAUGHTER NEEDED TO CRAWL ACROSS THE CONSOLE. WOULD BE EVEN MORE DIFFICULT (PERHAPS IMPOSSIBLE) IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. I SEARCHED THE CHEVROLET OWNER FORUMS ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND MANY PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM GOING BACK YEARS. DEALER SERVICE PERSONNEL KNEW OF THE PROBLEM; OFFERED TO WAIVE USUAL $108 DIAGNOSTIC FEE FOR REPAIR. CHEVROLET CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE AGREED TO PAY $37 TOWARDS NECESSARY CORRECTION IF I PAID THE FIRST $200. *TR
LEFT REAR DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR FAILED TO OPERATE. THIS IS THE 3RD REAR DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR TO FAIL ON THIS CAR. ORIGINAL OWNER, REPLACED 2 LOCKS UNDER WARRANTY, NOW A 3RD ACTUATOR FAILURE. THIS DOOR IS THE PRIMARY DOOR USED FOR ENTRY/EGRESS BY CHILDREN. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN DUE EITHER THE INABILITY TO SAFELY REMOVE A CHILD IN AN EMERGENCY, OR LEAVE THE DOOR UNLOCKED WHILE DRIVING. IN THESE CHEVROLET MALIBUS, WHEN THE CAR IS PUT INTO DRIVE THE DOORS LOCK AUTOMATICALLY, WHEN PLACED INTO PARK THE DOORS UNLOCK. WITHOUT WARNING THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS QUIT WORKING AND LEAVE YOUR CAR EITHER LOCKED OR UNLOCKED. IN CASE OF EMERGENCY YOU WILL BE SCRAMBLING TO UNLOCK THE DOOR MANUALLY. *TR
THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR ON BOTH REAR DOORS FAIL TO UNLOCK THE DOOR. APPARENTLY THIS IS VERY COMMON IN 2008 AND 2009 MALIBU'S. CONSIDERING THAT MY CHILDREN (AS I AM SURE MANY OTHERS), IT IS UNSAFE TO HAVE VEHICLES DOORS UNLOCK FROM THE OUTSIDE. THE POWER LOCKS ON THE CAR WOULD NOT UNLOCK THE DOORS, LEAVING THE PASSENGERS TRAPPED INSIDE. WE WERE UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOORS MANUALLY, ELECTRICALLY OR EVEN WITH INSERTING THE KEY INTO THE DOOR. THE CAR DOOR LOCKS CYCLE ON AND OFF AT ANY GIVEN TIME. MOSTLY STAYS UNLOCKED, ALTHOUGH THE OTHER DAY IT DID LOCK ME IN THE CAR THIS WAS JUST AS FRIGHTENING AS THEM NOT BEING LOCKED. IN MARCH, 2011, I BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE DOORS NOT OPENING FROM THE INSIDE. I UNHOOKED THE BATTERY TERMINAL TO RESET THE COMPUTER THEN THE WINDOWS STARTED WORKING AGAIN. IN APRIL MY DRIVER'S WINDOW WOULD NOT GO UP. I REPLACED THE 30A FUSE AND GOT THE WINDOW TO GO UP. ONCE I TRIED TO USE ONE OF THE OTHER WINDOWS, THE FUSE BLEW AGAIN. NOW MY WINDOWS WILL NOT GO UP OR DOWN WITHOUT BLOWING A FUSE. THE SWITCH IN THE DRIVER'S DOOR WAS REPLACED AND THE RELAY WAS REPLACED WITH NO RESOLUTION.
