DASHBOARD HAS DEVELOPED SEVERE CRACKING ON DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDES ESPECIALLY AROUND THE AIRBAG AREA. THIS IS THE SECOND DASHBOARD IN THIS VEHICLE. MY CONCERN IS THAT THE AIRBAG MAY BE PUNCTURED OR OTHERWISE INEFFECTIVE UPON DEPLOYMENT DUE TO THE INSTABILITY AND SHARP, BROKEN PIECES OF PLASTIC DASHBOARD. AFTER HAVING THE DASHBOARD REPLACED PREVIOUSLY FOR THESE SAME REASONS IT HAS BEEN PROTECTED WITH A DASHMAT AND SUNSHADE. THIS IS CERTAINLY A QUALITY ISSUE WHICH GM IS AWARE OF.

MY TRUCK HAS DEVELOPED 2 LARGE CRACKS IN THE DASH, ONE OVER THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND THE OTHER SURROUNDING THE PASSENGER AIRBAG. THE CRACKS DEVELOPED AROUND 30,000 MILES. THE TRUCK HAS BEEN GARAGE KEPT, AND NOW WITH 55,000 MILES THE CRACKS ARE GETTING BIGGER AND MUCH WORSE. THE MAJOR CONCERN IS THE CRACK AROUND THE PASSENGER AIRBAG. WITH THE DASH BEING THIS BRITTLE AND WEAK, WE ARE AFRAID OF WHAT MAY HAPPEN IN AN ACCIDENT WHERE THE FRONT AIRBAGS DEPLOY. THE DASH APPEARS THAT IT MAY SHATTER INTO PIECES OR AT LEAST COME APART AND POTENTIALLY ALLOW SHARDS OF PLASTIC TO BE THROWN AROUND IN AN ACCIDENT. THIS ISSUE IS EFFECTING A LARGE AMOUNT OF THESE MODEL VEHICLES, SO THERE IS AN OBVIOUS DEFECT IN THE DESIGN. BOTH WERE REPLACED BY DEALER AND CRACKED AGAIN WITH < 10,000 ADDITIONAL MILES GM REFUSED TO REPLACE UNLESS I PAID 1/2 THE COST OF $1200 SO NEVER GOT FIXED. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO THOUSANDS OF OTHERS AND GM SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR DEFECTS. I WORKED FOR GM AND SOMEONE TOLD ME THEY WERE USING TOO MUCH TORQUE WHEN THE DASHES WERE INSTALLED BUT GM WILL NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY. I FEEL IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS FAR AS THE AIRBAGS MIGHT GO OFF ACCIDENTALLY WHILE DRIVING OR NOT IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT!

THE CONTACT ALSO INDICATED THAT THE DASHBOARD WAS CRACKED AND THERE WERE CONCERNS OF THE AIR BAGS BEING COMPROMISED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND NO SOLUTION WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.

EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE BREAKAGE CAUSES A RISK FROM CUTS AND ABRASIONS, AND ALSO THE POSSIBILITY OF FALLING DUE TO EXPECTING THE HANDLE TO STAY IN PLACE AND NOT BREAK SO EASILY. THIS ALSO MAKES THE VEHICLE A TARGET FOR THEFT, AS ALL THAT IS REQUIRED FOR A BREAK IN IS A HARD PULL AND A SCREW DRIVER MAKING EASY ACCESS FOR A CRIMINAL. *TR
