I bought this car and started to have issues after a couple weeks. Because it is a hybrid model, it works perfectly fine when the car is running on the battery. Immediately the engine began to work, I get hesitation and the car drives rough. I took it to the first dealership that said there was water in the engine but they were proved wrong because what they show as water was apparently fuel that did not burn the right way in the cylinder. The dealership came with another excuse that the filter had traces of water which makes them to believe something was wrong. I took the car to another bmw dealership as I did not trust their diagnosis. The other bmw dealership performed some work on the car but then came to the conclusion that their hands were tied because of what the previous dealership reported to bmw...

I purchased this BMW X5 xDrive50e vehicle from BMW showroom in kalamazoo, MI as a pre-owned vehicle. It looks like this particular vehicle had already reported an drivetrain issue based on the NHTSA complaint: [XXX] Looks like Drivetrain malfunction issue is a recurring one in BMW X5 50e and hit with the same issue on [XXX]. Here, i want to file a complaint regarding a safety issues with this 2024 BMW X5 xDrive50e, which currently has 14,065 miles. Vehicle started showing 2 Error messages. (1) Drivetrain Malfunctions Error stating that driving is not possible and asking to call the roadside assistance. (2) Regenerative braking of the vehicle is disturbed. It is possible to continue driving and asking to schedule a service appointment. 2024 July summer time, the compressor started same issue as the temperature increased. All of a sudden, the car was started showing major “drivetrain error” and “high voltage battery error”. I have taken the car again back to the same dealership and this time the car was starting to show major system failures. I have kept BMW in the email loop and at the first instance itself I have called out that cooling issues can cause battery issues, and it happened exactly like that after 7 months. Car was with the dealership from 07/22/2024 mileage: 7896 to 07/24/2024. Dealership said this was just a software issue even though there were errors related to high voltage, after 3 days, dealership simply updated the software and cleared all the issue and related the car stating that everything fixed. The contact owns a 2024 BMW X5. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle stalled while driving through ankle-height water. The kill switch was stuck. After the failure, the engine overheating warning light illuminated. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V104000 (Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The undercarriage of the vehicle had sustained unknown damages during transportation. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 4,023. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

The vehicle first reported a drivetrain malfunction and the message said to continue driving with reduced engine performance. The vehicle did get us home. I tested it the following day and received the same fault after a couple of miles of driving. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, a 50 mile trip. After a couple of weeks the dealer stated that the vehicle was ready for pickup. I got in the vehicle and 1.5 miles later received a drive fault warning me to stop carefully and turn off drive ready mode. I was driving on a very busy narrow road looking for a place to pull over when the vehicle lost all motive power. Having no choice but to try and pull over very quickly as we were going up a hill. I am filing this complaint regarding serious safety issues with my 2024 BMW X5 xDrive50e, which currently has approximately 12,000 miles. 1. Drivetrain Malfunctions and Assembly Error: The vehicle experienced three instances of drivetrain malfunctions within an eight-day period, causing it to go into limp mode unexpectedly while driving. The issue was identified as a misrouted wiring harness, which has since been repaired. I was informed by the BMW technician that a service bulletin addressing this issue was released 6 months prior to the production of my vehicle. Despite BMW’s knowledge of this recurring problem, the vehicle was assembled incorrectly, creating a significant safety hazard. This failure to address known issues during production resulted in potential disaster, compromising my safety and that of others on the road. 2. I am started to lease this car in August 2024. After 2 weeks, the car just halted, unable to move. Luckily this happened in my driveway. It took BMW more than 1 month to repair this. They had to change the combined charging unit with a different part number (upgraded part). At that time the car had roughly 200 miles on the odometer. In February of this year (2024), the car had a drivetrain fault, related to high voltage batteries. That time, it was still drivable but it did spend 2 more weeks at the dealership. Three weeks ago, I had another catastrophic failure with the car halting suddenly. This time, I was not as luck as the first time. It happened away from home. I took ownership of the vehicle on 12/23/23 and Had a Drivetrain and High Voltage warning on 1/13/24. Dealer took vehicle on 1/18/24 with approximately 925 miles and returned vehicle on 1/22/24. On 1/25/24 I now have a check engine light on. I am not sure what can be done to fix this, but I am very concerned that this will be an ongoing issue with no resolution.

Purchased a new 2024 BMW xDRIVE 50e on 9/23/2024, then on 9/28/2023 X5 50e did not start due to Drivetrain Malfunction and had to be flat towed to dealer. Its been 108 days (1/16/2024) since X5 has been in for repairs due to BMU (Battery Management Unit). With a new part from Germany, Service Department with BMWNA technical assistance have not been able to resolve problem. BMWNA has reluctantly initiated a Buyback of vehicle this month. According to BMW forum (Bimmerpost) this is a chronic and systematic problem with many owners registering the same problem and looking for solutions. BMW needs to initiate a Recall or send out a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) to all dealer to make them aware of this chronic problem.

Drivetrain malfunction error that disabled the vehicle. Software update done by dealer, but dealer is unsure if that is the repair. Many other owners of the 50e are having issues. All are related to the high voltage battery system. Car will not operate when error occurs. BMW has refused to publish a TSB.

This is a follow up on a concern that I raised 3 weeks ago. This is a new car that broke down after 157 miles. The car has been disabled since September 4th 2023. As of today, I still do not have it and do not have a clear ETA for the repair. The diagnosis from the dealership is a defective combined charging unit. The part had to be back-ordered from Germany. A week or so after the incident, the service agent at BMW of Portchester (Kurt Hinrichs) told me on the phone that the part is undergoing a design upgrade. Hence the initial 7-10 business days minimum for the part to arrive would have to be revised. I did complain with bmw, including copying the CEO of bmw of north america in one of my complains as I was not receiving any (none) attention from customer service. Customer service...

Drivetrain malfunction after less than 200 miles on the odometer. This malfunction required the car to be towed. This happened suddenly with no warning lamps (etc) as the car had been working just fine. It went from working 100% fine to a major alert, disabling the transmission (to go in drive or reverse mode) to prevent any use of the engine. Also, within my bmw account, this car with this VIN has since been listed to have an open recall. I did not receive any other explicit communication from the manufacturer about it and I only noticed it today. I do not believe that the notice was posted in their portal prior to this engine incident. In fact, the recall does not show on nhtsa. The car now requires a back-ordered component to be changed.
