THE BACK TAILGATE GLASS SHATTERED. IT WAS PARKED, I HAD JUST TURNED IT ON. AND AS I WAS STARTING TO SHIFT IT TO REVERSE IT SHATTERED. A POP THE SOUNDOF GLASS FALLING. I SLAMMED ON BREAKS GOT OUT THE WINDOW WAS BROKEN, MISSING. ALL ALONG THE WINDSHEILD WIPER. I HAD TO GET IT FIXED AFTER 5 DAYS WAITING FOR THE GLASS TO COME IN BY SAFELITE.
Rear back glass exploded right after parking the vehicle
My rear windshield shattered during the winter. There was no signs of any damage beforehand. There was broken glass everywhere and I could’ve seriously cut myself or anyone back there could’ve been hurt by the pieces of broken glass. I had to file a police report for my insurance. Many car dealerships are refusing to fix! There’s too many reports of this happening!
When I closed my driver's door, the rear window shattered. Glass came into the vehicle when this happened. I had it repaired the next day by Safelite. I made an insurance claim but still had to pay $500 deductible. There was no warning that such a break could happen. There was no prior damage to the window or tailgate at all. I see online there are other instances of this reported, but unsure why Acura hasn't done a recall or otherwise notified the owners of this danger.
I had parked my vehicle in front of my house on Friday, January 30, 2026 at 1:30a.m. I had turned on my vehicle's engine via Acuralink app at 5:20p.m. on that same day. so that it can be warmed up to go to work. At 5:30p.m. I went to my vehicle and saw the rear windshield had been broken. I initially thought someone had broken into the vehicle so I immediately called my near by police station to which they told me to call 9-1-1. I called 9-1-1 and reported a police report with the officers who came to my house. I then contacted my landlord and super since the vehicle was parked in a location where it was visible to my building cameras but no one was near my vehicle during the time the rear windshield had broken. I proceeded to do my research online and discovered that this...
The rear windshield was shattered on its own. It is available to inspect. It caused glass to be scattered around & unsafe to drive. I could not see through the window. It has not yet been inspected. No warning lamps or messages. It just shattered just sitting outside my work.
The lift gate hatch window suddenly imploded.
Car was parked in my garage. Rear window shattered after I entered the car and shut the car door.
I used my automatic start to warm up my vehicle (it was on for about 5 minutes). When I went to open up by rear door (using my remote button), the back window completely shattered. I was walking up to my car when I heard the crackling of the glass. There was no warning about it. I will be calling the dealership about it tomorrow. Picture #1 was what the window looked like when I close the back. Picture #2 was the aftermath when I opened and closed the driver's door.
The rear windshield of a 2019 Acura RDX spontaneously shattered while the vehicle was sitting in our driveway. Vehicle was turned off, nothing fell or contacted the car, no passengers in the vehicle. This is the 2nd time this happened, last incident occurred ~2 years ago. Acura denied any record of this being an ongoing issue then, and has the same stance on the issue now, despite it being a widely known issue according to internet searches. We took pictures of the break, vehicle is available for inspection but we will be replacing the rear windshield immediately via insurance/safelite as we need the vehicle to be operational. Fortunately, we were not in the vehicle driving at the time of break, as reports indicate loud sound upon breakage that can startle driver. We also cannot operate the vehicle until rear windshield is replaced due to sound concerns for infant and temperature...
Rear window for 2019 Acura RDX shattered while sitting in driveway. There was no impact and the car was stationary.
I walked outside after work and the rear windshield was shattered. I work at a high school so I assumed it was an accident and after administration checked cameras from the entire day, nothing was founded. I googled the make and model of my car and saw it’s common to occur as a defect.
Got in my car to leave work, heard a strange rattle noise from the back of the car when I shut the driver door. I looked back and see a hole in the rear windshield. I got out to take a closer look, and also to take a picture. When I got back in the car and shut the door, a large chunk of glass fell into the back of the vehicle. My car was parked at work for 8.5 hours, and I had to drive 40 miles home with a shattered back windshield. This is the 2nd time the back windshield has randomly shattered. The first time was in March 2025, in my driveway at home, during the overnight hours. Before leaving for work, I found glass had exploded on the inside and outside of the vehicle, and also on the driveway under the area of the back windshield....
Was stationary in the drive thru line at McDonald's located at 1030 Largo Center Drive, Largo, MD, on Saturday December 6, 2025 around 10:30 pm. I heard a loud noise from the rear of the vehicle that sounded like a gunshot. I turned around, no gunshot, but the entire rear windshield had spontaneously shattered. The noise startled me, but because I was stationary, no issues, but if it had happened while driving, could have been an issue. There was no warning, messages, etc., just the loud noise when it shattered. Again, vehicle was sitting still, no contact with any other vehicles, or objects. Once I got home, parked in garage. Went online, and found out that this was not uncommon. Many incidents have been reported of windshields shattering spontaneously in 2019-2023 Acura RDX vehicles. There has not been a recall, but there is a technical service bulletin 22-014. My wife...
I am reporting a second back windshield replacement. Acura has said they are aware of this but no recall has been issued. Windshield breaks suddenly for no reason
I got in my car yesterday to pull out of the driveway and heard the rear window wiper turn on. I then heard a cracking sound and noticed that the rear window was cracked and had a small hole near the wiper. The rear wiper moved again as I was turning it off and the hole got bigger and glass started to fall in the trunk. There was no impact to the rear windows that would have caused the damage. After researching online, I found the Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 22-014. I took the car to the dealer but they will not fix it since it is not under warranty. I cannot see out of my rear window now that it is cracked (other than the area where there is a hole).
On November 24, 2025, I remote started my car for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, I opened the driver's side door, pressed the tailgate button to open the tailgate, opened a rear door, and my rear windshield shattered. There was no impact and no accident.
On 11/19/2025, I opened my driver's side door and got in the drivers seat. When I closed the door my rear windshield shattered. The glass then began to cave in creating a hole. The problem is acknowledged by the manufacturer as outlined in NHTSA #: 10225484 (service bulletin). I called Spitzer Acura dealership in Pittsburgh who said I would need to call a glass company and they wouldn't cover it.
On Wednesday, November 5th, the rear glass on my 2019 Acura RDX spontaneously shattered without warning. I brought the vehicle to Safelite for repair; however, they were unable to assist due to the technical complexity of removing and replacing the glass. I then contacted an Acura dealership by phone and was advised that I may be required to replace the entire rear hatch, rather than just the glass. I have since learned that Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 22-014 acknowledges an issue affecting rear-glass failure, but it is limited to certain 2019–2020 models and VIN ranges. No recall has been issued, despite numerous reports of this same defect. Additionally, there is an ongoing class-action lawsuit related to this issue (Tyzcko & Zavareei LLP). I am submitting this complaint because Acura is refusing to repair or replace the shattered rear glass despite its being a known design defect. This failure represents a...
The back windshield of my Acura RDX has broken on its own 3 times. Twice while it was parked and once while driving , no debris was found to show anything broke the window.
I was driving in a rainstorm with my windshield wipers on. The wipers spasmed and then stopped. I tried several things, but the wipers would not work and I had to have the car towed to the dealership because it was not safe to drive in the rain. The inspection indicates that the windshield wiper motor has to be replaced. I looked and saw that there are several notices about this issue on Acura RDXs in my year and it's clearly a safety issue as it stopped while I was driving in the rain.
Got into my car started it and the back window burst I might add it was not to cold out but the rear window wiper was on due to the rain sensor
The back windshield on my 19 RDX spontaneously shattered on 1/5/2024 driving on the highway while using my rear defroster in cold weather. No warning lights. There is a known issue with this happening and a service bulletin 22-014 pertaining to this issue. My Insurance was notified. A glass repair shop and an Acura dealer both repaired my vehicle. Honda corporate refuses to acknowledge or pay for repairs as 'my VIN is not included in recall'
The rear windshield glass is shattered or broken with no external impact.
The rear windshield has now spontaneously exploded twice out of no where. Most recent occurrence 2/20/25… previous occurrence in 2022
Rear glass exploded in my driveway. Sounded like a shotgun, just exploded by itself. Looks like alot of people have had this issue with this year Acura RDX from what I read online.
Rear window shatters without any warning can be extremely dangerous when happens while driving due to it sounding like a gunshot I can be severely distracting to driver causing the driver to lose control of vehicle or swerve into other lanes and injure other drivers. Incident occurred twice nice in November 2023 and a second time February 2025
Rear window blew out. Rear window shattered when we closed the drivers side door.
Problem with rear back mirror defects after so long my back window shattered with no reason
Rear window spontaneously shattered on a day I didn't operate the vehicle at all. The previous week was abnormally cold in Maryland, but the day of the incident it was mild in the 40s. The window shattered midmorning as the sun was shining on the rear of the car.
November 2022, my rear window shattered while parked in my parents driveway. Did not know what happened so I called my insurance company (State Farm) they came out a few days later to replace it. I reported it to my dealership and they said they have never heard of that happening before. December 2024, my rear window shattered again while sitting in my garage, this time I called American Honda. I made a complaint with them and told them this has happened before and they need to correct it. They told me they have never heard of this happening and I needed to report it to my dealership. Again, I reported to the dealership and they told me the same thing. My insurance covered the cost of the repair twice. I'm following other Acura RDX owners who are having this same issue on Facebook. Honda needs to recall these cars...
Rear windshield spontaneously shattered while parked.
Want this documented as it was not previously back in 2022 when the glass shattered the first time. A very cold January day in 2022. Used auto start and defroster. Came out of work whole back window was shattered. Got in vehicle shut door glass fell in and went everywhere. Drove home with giant whole in back window about 8 miles and immediately put vehicle in garage. Called Acura Customer Relations was informed they have never heard of this happening received a case#. Heard nothing after and NEVER was notified of any TSB’s. Both times vehicle was under warranty/extended warranty.
Rear window in lift gate shattered upon normal door closure. Glass shards in the door.
Opened front driver side door and closed door. At that time, rear window shattered with no warning or reason.
I went out to my car to leave work for lunch and discovered that my rear windshield had shattered between my arrival and leaving for lunch. I found out by closing my drivers' door and having a significant portion of the rear windshield fall into the back of the car, scattering glass everywhere. The entire rear glass was shattered and fell out of place with any movement of the car. There were no apparent cracks in the glass prior to shattering. The weather was unusually cold for this region, ranging between 16-22 degrees F when it shattered, and the car was parked in a parking deck, covered but exposed to the weather. Sky was clear and no rain/snow. I was on the 3rd level of the parking deck and backed into my space, facing the exterior of the deck, so no opportunity for a projectile to shatter the window.
Upon entering the vehicle while it was turned off, the rear window shattered unexpectedly when I closed the door, scattering pieces everywhere. If this had occurred while I was driving, the loud noise from the window breaking could have led to a serious accident. It startled me to the point where I ducked, as the sound was akin to a gunshot. This issue is reportedly common with the RDX, particularly the 2019 models. Unfortunately, the dealership informed me that it is not covered under warranty and there is no active recall. Due to the increased cost associated with my deductible, I opted for an aftermarket window installation. I am aware that a class action lawsuit is currently in progress regarding this matter, as well as Technical Service Bulletin 22-014, yet the dealership has declined to accept any responsibility.
Twice the back window on my 2019 Acura RDX has shattered in very cold temperatures. This happened in January 2022 and December 2024. The vehicle was parked both times. No warning just a loud boom noise. When getting in the car and gently closing the door after the glass shatters the glass fell into the back of the vehicle going everywhere. This is a major safety issue as the shattered glass can severely injure an adult/baby/pet. Twice this was replaced by my insurance company that I pay a pretty hefty premium on. I have been in contact with American Honda and they seem to be aware of the issue but only offer to possibly issue a onetime good faith reimbursement for one window which does not resolve this safety concern from happening over and over again. In 2022, the glass was replaced and the vehicle had to be taken to...
My rear windshield glass shattered with no external impact traveling at 15 mph on a side street. The sound was very shocking and distracting. It sounded like a gunshot struck our vehicle. All the glass shattered and broke for no apparent reason. We had a pet in the back seat and were very distressed from this incident. I had to tape up the rear window with a garbage bag and duct tape in order to drive the vehicle, prevent glass from falling on the road behind me, rain damage, which then left me with no visibility and safety issue. No one was harmed fortunately but we had to then have window replaced/repaired by Safelite who advised us to look for a recall as they felt it was unusual and not common. When we notified Acura there was no recall for this issue. There were no warnings or messages prior to...
Myself and family members were getting into my vehicle. The drivers side door was closed and the rear windshield spontaneously shattered. There were no cracks or defects in the windshield prior to this occurring. I see that there is currently a class action lawsuit against Honda as other drivers have experienced similar issues with spontaneous shattering of the rear windshield. Fortunately, nobody was injured as the incident occurred while stationary, but this could have the potential to be very dangerous as it caused quite a startle. If we were in motion, I could see how it could pose potential for accidents. The shattered glass also fell on my child’s stroller which has required careful inspection and cleaning to ensure no glass remained for our child to be exposed to.
Back glass shattered for the second time. Closed back driver side door and the back glass popped.
2019 Acura RDX. purchased in March 2019. In September 2021, the rear windshield/glass exploded on its own while parked in our driveway. My wife started the vehicle and turned on the front and back defrosters. While waiting for all glass to be visibly clear, the rear windhshield exploded without being struck by anything. Windshield was repaired, however, small pieces of broken glass still remain inside the tailgate panel, and both dealership and glass replacment facility reprensetatives indicated that the way the rear tailgate is desiged, it is impossible to get every piece of glass out. Since September 2021 till now, you can hear pieces of glass moving around inside the rear tailgate, as if they were Maracas playing in a Latin band. On 12/22/24, this time while driving the vehicle, we heard a very loud 'gunshot' sound coming from the rear of the car. The noise was so startling that...
BACK WINDSHIELD SHATTERED OUT OF NO WHERE. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THIS specific MODEL
It is about 50 degrees clear, with no rain. I drive onto the highway and hear what sounds like a gunshot. The Rear window explodes, and then glass flies all over the car; I roll down my window, and then glass goes everywhere, and all my stuff in the car flies around. I pull over and assess; this is the same thing that happened to me last year. The window randomly exploded. I called my insurance company, and they replaced it, but now the glass is stuck in the door. I called three 3 Acuras, and they all mentioned they hadn't heard of the issue until I mentioned the bulletin; now they say they have heard of it before but don't know if there is a way to help. Primary safety concern and a bit of a coverup by Acura
Rear windshield shattered on its own.
Car was parked at the church parking lot. After the mass I remote start the car 3 mins later soon as my family and I got in the car we hard the rear windshield shattered. After doing lots of researched and being in the group of Acura RDX owner on facebook ive seen cases with rear glass shattering.
Rear window while car was parked and off in the garage seemed to explode. Had it replaced.
Rear glass on liftgate spontaneously shattered while driving
I got in my car and shut the door and as I put the car in reverse, before I could move, I heard a popping sound and then the sound of glass shattering. Immediately put the car back in park and looked back and saw the glass was broken. I learned that Acura/Honda actually has a TSB for this and knows that it's a problem. I contacted them but because my vehicle is 10,000 mi over the warranty they would not do anything. TSB 22-014. If this had happened when I was driving it could have caused a serious accident. I also now have to pay out of pocket to have the windshield replaced.
Started car up while parked in shopping center to warm up. The entire rear windshield glass popped and shattered. Took pictures and found out that Acura RDX from 2019 to 2023 have known to have this issue relating to faulty rear defroster wiring and glass. Opening a case with our local elite Acura dealership where we purchased vehicle from.
