The contact stated while having the vehicle serviced at a local dealer for routine maintenance, the dealer was unable to remove the wheels because the lug nuts were swollen. The vehicle was taken to a local Auto Zone where the contact was advised to replace the lug nuts with after-market lug nuts due to the failure. The contact was informed that the failure with the lug nuts was a common issue. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 78,766.
