NHTSA Complaint #11578669 — 2019 FORD EXPEDITION

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to exceed 60 MPH. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where an unknown software update was performed. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled. The contact also stated that the vehicle overheated while driving and while idle. The contact stated that the engine had overheated to 230-240 degrees, and the engine was shuddering while driving. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the water pump, the TCM, the battery and unknown parts were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to a second dealer, Suburban Ford of Ferndale (21600 Woodward Ave, Ferndale, MI 48220), where it was diagnosed that the cam phasers had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to Ford Campaign Number: [XXX]. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not covered. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 28,000.
