NHTSA Complaint #11716688 — 2019 FORD EXPEDITION

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormally loud sound coming from the transmission. The transmission was slipping, and the RPM was abnormally elevated. There were several unknown warning lights illuminated, and the engine overheated. The vehicle was driven to the residence. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred. While driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine overheated again. The coolant reservoir was refilled with five gallons of coolant. The engine continued to overheat, and the coolant reservoir was continuously refilled. The contact stated that on one occasion, the contact and her husband were stranded at the side of the road in the freezing cold for two hours. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with the driver's front wheel bearings and sensors failures. The contact was informed that the wheel bearings failure was the cause of the failure because the transmission was unable to perform as designed. The contact was informed that the driver's side front-wheel bearing, and all the sensors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 145,000.
