NHTSA Complaint #11538913 — 2015 FORD FOCUS

The contact owns a 2015 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving 75 MPH, the vehicle unintendedly shifted from 1st gear to neutral(N) and stalled. The check engine warning light illuminated, and the message "Transmission Service Required" was displayed. The contact was able to veer to the side of the road. The contact stated that she shifted into park(P), and then shifted into drive (D), and the vehicle responded as needed. The contact was able to continue driving. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving at various speeds and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle hesitated to respond. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the transmission friction clutch pack and module had failed, and that the failure was related to an unknown Customer Satisfaction Program that had expired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.
