226 complaints have been filed with NHTSA for the 2022 VOLKSWAGEN ID.4. Below is a breakdown by vehicle component.
Most Recent Complaints
My 2022 VW ID.4 Pro S has experienced a total failure of the GPS and telematics system (J949 module), causing a dangerous 'GPS Drift' where the vehicle reports its location miles away from its actual position. This creates two severe safety hazards: Automated System Malfunction: The Travel Assist and Dynamic Road Sign systems are receiving conflicting data. The camera correctly identifies a speed limit (e.g., 40 mph), but the faulty GPS overrides it with incorrect map data (e.g., 25 mph). This causes the vehicle to unexpectedly and dangerously decelerate while in active traffic. Emergency Service Failure: The eCall (Emergency Call) system is reporting the wrong location. In the event of a serious crash, emergency responders would be directed to a location miles away from the actual accident site. My dealer provided written documentation (attached) stating there is 'NO FIX' currently for 2021-2023 models, as they are hardware-locked to a failing Verizon-based data protocol that VW has not patched. The manufacturer has acknowledged the defect but offers no remedy for this safety-critical system.
