2024 TOYOTA TUNDRA Engine Problems

My 2024 Toyota Tundra imax hybrid started off with a knocking sound. I took it into a certified Toyota dealership to have it inspected. I was then told that they had ordered a part it needed to fix the problem. After not hearing back and the knocking getting louder. I reached back out and took it back for further inspection. They then told me that it needed a system update. After running the update, a couple of times later after diving the Tundra, it had a power issue when pushing the gas to accelerate. I then reached out to Toyota once again and took it back to be serviced. They told me that they test drove my truck and had no issues with acceleration. So I went and picked it up. Just a couple days after receiving my truck back, I was at an intersection with the blinking turn signal...

The engine repair was a short block only, even thoe the main bearings spun and sent debis threw the engine. #1 rod went as well. Apon recieving the truck back, with in 200 miles, I've had the same hesitation with the engines as I had just before the first engine failed. Took it by the dealer and no issues found. oil preasure stays up and temp normal. I've had many issue with throtle lag sence day one. The milage has stayed in the low 11 gpm when before i would get on average 14 to 16. Dealer stated toyota would make it right if the engine fails again. Very unhappy with Toyota as I feel they are just kicking the can down the road.

The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the low engine oil warning light illuminated. The vehicle independently switched to Hybrid. The vehicle was driven to the shoulder of the road, and the engine seized. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine had experienced oil starvation, causing the rod bearings and engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be rebuilt or replaced. The engine was being rebuilt but was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 44,186.

Throttle lag, takes a couple of seconds for the truck to register me pressing on the gas before jolting forward. Not only frustrating but dangerous.

As I was drive home at 45 mph the vehicle started surging and then the engine started knocking. then I stopped the vehicle and called Toyota for a tow. The truck was towed to the local dealer (Sheehy Toyota) for inspection. upon inspection the motor has a bad knocking in the lower end of the engine. The truck is now in the shop getting the engine disassembled. believed to be a main bearing failure. The truck has 9,229 miles on it. light use and had the oil changed 500 miles prior by the dealer.

Purchased new in 2024. since ownership, Ive experienced throttle lag. Especially from the stopped position. I have also experienced occasional stalling for no apparent reason. Dealership has noted issues I have mentioned. vehicle now has 32000 miles and issues continue .Delaership has been unable to remedy either situation

When starting from a very slight rolling stop I sometimes get no throttle response at all. When this happens i end up applying more throttle and I still do not move. Then after a second or two the truck takes off like a rocket. This usually happens at an intersection with the steering wheel turned one way or the other. Not sure if this is an engine or transmission issue or both.

I was stopped and went to pull out of the gas station. With my foot on the throttle I pull out. And it would not accelerate. I had to pump the gas pedal I almost got hit by oncoming traffic due to the lack of acceleration this has happened multiple times Very dangerous

Acceleration pause or lag dead spot from slow like yielding at yield sign or from stop. Not always from stop but consistent from slow rolling from situations like yield sign or merging to traffic. I have encountered several situations where I was afraid I would be hit by another vehicle but lucky enough to make it or the other driver slowed or break. Then when it does go there is a huge jerk like it kicked in and I punched the accelerator. This occurs frequently.

I have had an issue several times which nearly resulted in a traffic accident. The truck has a sudden loss of acceleration where the gas pedal is completely dead. It last a few seconds and then goes back to normal. This has nearly caused several accidents where I could not properly accelerate while traffic was heading in my direction. After talking with other Tundra owners, I am not the only one with this issue. This needs immediate attention. If it is not fixed as soon as possible, I fear that someone will get seriously injured or killed. Please take this matter seriously. I suspect it may have something to do with the pre collision sensor system on the truck. It seems that it happens when there is a slight grade or dip in the road. While at a four-way intersection, I went to press the throttle, and there was a very significant lag in acceleration, almost causing an accident.

Vehicle hesitates and starts to lose power and stall while driving. Toyota will not take action even though a recall has been issued and a letter in hand.

Throttle lag/hesitation. When pressing the gas pedal from a stop nothing happens for more than 5 seconds or longer. There is significant lag before the vehicle will accelerate.

While driving I noticed a slight knock, about 10 miles further down the road the dash said engine has stopped pull over. No check engine or other lights were illuminated before or after this. The truck had a terrible noise when I tried to restart it, but it would not turn back on

Component: Electrical Harness + Vehicle Shakiness Problem: Car would enter LIMP mode randomly and shut the car down to 18 MPH and can cause accidents anywhere, especially in highway where speed limits are 65+. Car also now starts shaking violently when 48 MPH is reached which is a safety concern. Reproduce: First turn taking into dealer they found issue then “disappeared” and they could not reproduce, went in again and they produced it then said that I tried tampering the engine then got corporate involved and they paid all of it. Now they are ghosting me and will not check out the shakiness. Inspected: Only by Summit Toyota Dealership (Akron Ohio) Warning Lamps: Only appeared after issue happened and disappeared when first issue was solved.

You step on accelerator and it doesn’t accelerate… it lags and almost caused accident more than 4 times! Throttle body won’t open up and go. I feel they need to remap the system.

When coming to a stop and then trying to accelerate to turn into a street I get an abnormal amount of throttle lag. There’s even times it seems to lag and then registers that I am trying to accelerate quickly causing me to “burn out” while I’m turning and no I am not accelerating crazy. On July 31, 2024, my vehicle lost power while driving on the freeway and I had to make an emergency stop. Luckily I was able to do so safely. I brought the vehicle to Toyota Dealership South Bay to report this issue. The dealership inspected the vehicle but stated that they were unable to diagnose or replicate the problem and returned the vehicle to me without repair. The issue persisted and/or reoccurred after that visit. On November 6, 2025, Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing issued Safety Recall No. 25V767000 (NHTSA Campaign Number 25V767000), titled “Debris in Engine May Cause Stall.” According to the recall, debris from the manufacturing process may contaminate the engine and cause the main bearings to fail, which can result in an engine stall and loss of drive power. The recall applies to certain 2022–2024 Toyota Tundra vehicles equipped with the V35A engine and affects approximately 126,691...

While driving down the highway at ~70 mph, the truck's powertrain suddenly shut off. The electronics still worked, but the RPMs dropped to zero. I was forced to pull off to the side of the road, where I tried to turn off and turn back on. The truck kept on turning off and on by itself electronically, but the engine and transmission wouldn't engage for roughly 10 minutes. I was eventually able to start the truck and limp home, but the engine was knocking afterward. Completely shutting down while driving down the highway at cruising speeds is insanely unsafe.

There is a severe throttle lag that is random. It has caused near collisions due to the response time. The truck will also randomly jerk forward. I reported it to dealer and they said it was normal and to drive the truck in sport mode. This not a solution and will cause an accident if not resolved soon

Vehicle experienced a loss of power while driving on a busy freeway and an extreme lag between pressing the gas pedal and when the vehicle would start going again. Called the dealership and was told “that’s a know issue with no current fix” they wouldn’t even look at the vehicle because there is a recall on my engine for this exact problem and Toyota does not have a fix yet.

Vehicle lost power and wouldn’t speed up while I was on the freeway and nearly caused a wreck because I couldn’t get the vehicle up to the speed limit. I pulled over and after shutting the vehicle off for an extended amount of time I then restated my truck but still experienced a lag in the engine. I am submitting a safety defect concern regarding Toyota’s V35A 3.4L twin-turbo V6 manufacturing defect involving machining debris contaminating crankshaft main bearings. Toyota initiated a safety recall in May 2024 for MY 2022–2023 Toyota Tundra and Lexus LX vehicles, citing debris left in the engine during manufacturing that can lead to bearing failure, engine failure, loss of motive power, and increased crash risk. Throttle hesitation and loss of power when transitioning from stop to start risking accident when pulling into traffic. Problem occurs all the time.

Intermittent throttle response issues or engine lag. When coming from a complete stop, the truck will sometimes move slightly once the throttle is applied, then lose all engine power momentarily before beginning to move again. This is a recurring issue.

When in stop and go traffic, almost coming to a complete stop or completely stopped the truck will intermittently have a throttle delay or lag where there is no power for 1-3 seconds followed buy a surge of acceleration. I’ve almost had a couple accidents where in stop and go traffic the truck surged almost Causing me to rear end the vehicle ahead of me. Another time I was stopped at a 2 way unrolled intersection. I pressed on the accelerator and the truck just rolled without power for a couple Seconds until it surged or jolted to acceleration. Engine hesitates momentarily when pressing accelerator from a complete stop. 98% of the time.

The vehicle will hesitate incredibly bad when driving in normal mode, when you go to take off from a stop or a rolling stop at a yield sign, the engine and system simply does not engage.It's about a three second delay, and then the vehicle takes off like a rocket, I have also had misfire engine codes that have left me on the side of the road with this vehicle, once you know about the hesitancy of the starting takeoff, you know, not to pull off in front of somebody as often.There is a delay in the throttle response of the vehicle. Have also had several infotainment system issues where the system goes totally blank or shows the front camera when in reverse, we use this vehicle for business, and all the issues have been a major concern of mine, as they are all safety issues.

My 2024 Tundra has a throttle delay at times. When you go to accelerate quickly there is a second where the throttle cuts out and the truck stalls. This has almost caused me to get in multiple accidents.

When I am coming to a stop , but not a complete stop ( such as at a yield sign) the vehicle hesitates when I hit the throttle. It takes a second for the truck to engage. This is very dangerous. I believe that this could potentially cause a collision due to the vehicle not beginning motion when the throttle is pushed.

I am experiencing an ongoing issue since the truck was new: the engine hesitates upon acceleration at any speed. When stopped this lag in throttle response makes it difficult to navigate in heavy or unpredictable traffic as the vehicle does not response to the pedal instantly and making intentional sudden speed changes is all but impossible to do safely. Depressing the pedal heavy to try and hasten the response makes the truck surge into hard and fast acceleration, worsening the issue. Several situations where the throttle hesitates when entering traffic or trying to come to interstate speeds on merge ramps. 1-2 sec delay has caused potential close calls while merging, when plenty of room existed to merge at speed.

On 11/28/2025 I was driving to work and all the warning lights on my 2024 Toyota lit up and the engine shut completely off. I had the vehicle towed to Performance Toyota Dealership in Bountiful, UT. I learned that there is a recall for the engine on these vehicles. The vehicle is still under factory warranty and had 34k miles on it. After a week of my truck sitting at the dealership they still are waiting on a decision from “Corporate” on whether they want to replace the engine under the factory warranty or they want to replace the engine under the recall which they are saying “no remedy” has been put out on the 2024 Tundra recall yet. While moving through an intersection the vehicle will occasionally loose power and the engine returns to idle. I will press on the gas for 3-4 seconds before the engine throttle reacts and the vehicle starts to accelerate. This has happened many times. The vehicle will turn or brake but it will not accelerate.

I periodically have throttle lag issues when starting to roll and take off from a stop - a lot of times this is in the middle of an intersection or pulling out into traffic lanes. The throttle almost doesn't respond or drops and then a few moments later takes off trying to make up for the throttle lag.

The vehicle experiences throttle lag/hesitation when going from a stop. At stop lights or when at a complete stop when you apply gas there is a good amount of hesitation before the engine moves. I found this is dangerous because the warmer the vehicle is the more I expirience it. Very concerning when trying to move out of traffic, when making left and right turns at intersections. There has not been an accident yet but it is a ticking time bomb.

I am the second owner of a 2024 Toyota Tundra that is branded as a manufacturer buyback/lemon. The first owner had the engine short block replaced at around 31,000 miles due to bearing failure. I later bought this truck at around 36,000 miles specifically because Toyota stated that the engine problem had been fixed with the short-block replacement. I relied on that representation and believed I was buying a vehicle whose defect had been properly remedied. Was driving with flow of traffic and the Engine lost power went to zero RPM check engine light came on. It’s a non hybrids motor. Wouldn’t turn over once pulled on side of road Check underneath engine bay for leaks of fluid nothing was leaking.

My 2024 tundra with 33000 miles is part of the latest recall, I called the dealership and was told I got to wait ( wait for what a XXX accident to happen) until Toyota sends me a letter and then dealerships get the parts! Throttle lag happens quite frequently. Transmission issues dumping into gear stalling at times delayed start. Dealer says it was normal.

Hesitation and throttle lag when accelerating the vehicle from a slow speed.

Hybrid 2024 Toyota, was accelerating on freeway on ramp when I received a notification of hybrid system malfunction and engine shutdown notice, "pullover". I was not able to use either system as there was no charge on the hybrid system and the hybrid system was not functioning due to the error, and the engine was shutdown. I was put in a situation of having to coast in a location of high vehicle traffic and greater relative speed to the road shoulder until I could safely stop.

Toyota has just extended the engine recall for debris left in it thru the 2024 year model for all non-hybrid Tundra vehicles. This recall makes no sense the Hybrid vehicles have the exact same engine and therefore have the exact same safety issue. The claim they are not being recalled because they can still be powered by the hybrid system, but this is false. If the engine seizes from this debris it will render the vehicle inoperable and cause a safety issue too. Those with the Hybrid who have experienced the failure confirm the vehicle becomes inoperable. When they take it to Toyota if still under warranty they are only offered a short block rebuild and not the long block and turbos as all non-hybrid receive under the recall. On Saturday 10/18 I was traveling about 60mph on the Long Island Expressway at approximately 12:30pm when I went to accelerate to pass a vehicle. Immediately upon pressing the accelerator the truck lost all throttle power and I quickly lost speed down to 45mph before throttle response came back. The truck harshly went into gear once throttle power resumed.

On Tuesday 10/21 at approximately 4:30pm I was on the Grand Central Parkway traveling about 50mph. When trying to accelerate the truck lost all throttle power and I quickly lost speed down to 40mph before throttle response came back. There was a noticeable change in gear upon throttle resuming.

On Wednesday 10/21 at approximately 11:30pm I was traveling on the Clearview Expressway. While changing from the middle last to the left lane at 20mph due to a construction merge with some traffic. When trying to accelerate the truck lost all throttle power and my speed quickly dropped to 12mph before throttle response came back. No noticeable or harsh change of gear for this episode.

Brakes - When descending down a hill at speed the brakes on my truck pulsate as if the rotors are warped. My family was put at risk due to the brakes not functioning properly and causing me to let off the braking system in order to prevent overheating. I asked my dealer to review the brakes and they indicated nothing is wrong, I can reproduce this action anytime for the dealership with a simple ride up and down the mountain. This could result in a crash harming myself, my family, or other motorists. The problem began between 5k-10k miles and is getting worse. My truck currently has 16k miles. The brakes should last 40k-60k miles with no problem. I have taken my vehicle in more than 3 times, regarding braking issues, the vehicle would brake automatically even when there is nothing in front of it, the pre collision sensor comes on in rain when there is no debris in front of it.Vwhicle was having throttle lag when come to a complete stop at a light.Now the panoramic roof is leaking, took it to the dealer more than 3 rimes for some these issues, regarding the roof leak, they said they were unable to duplicate it, I have videos showing it was leaking & pictures of all the malfunction from the dashboard.
