2022 TOYOTA TUNDRA Fuelpropulsion System Problems

My 2022 Toyota Platinum hesitates on acceleration. This happens constantly. I pull out of my neighborhood street onto a busy street, the truck moves forward then hesitates in a busy lane, then will surge ahead. This leaves me exposed to oncoming traffic. I have just missed being hit many times. This happens at intersections, where it will hesitate and the car behind me almost hits me. Thank you.

Many times while pushing the gas pedal the truck lags and wont move and I have almost been hit by another vehichle trying to enter traffic. This happens when the engine is warm and has been running for some time. A couple of times the truck has done this and I have had to hit the gas pedal to the point of mushing it all the way to floor and the truck finally responds and then takes off out of control and fish tails. Very Scary!! Most of the time its just a lag while coming to a stop at a stop sign and then push the gas pedal and there is a throttle lag before the truck moves and then is abrupt.

I have had multiple occasions where I have pushed on the gas pedal to accelerate from a stop and the truck does not go. This has almost caused accidents when attempting to pull out into traffic. This happens almost on a daily basis. The lag/pause can be very short (0.5 seconds) or very long (2-3 seconds) in my experience.

I'm having an issue my 2022 Toyota Tundra having incredible throttle lag issues involves a delay and sudden surge when accelerating from a stop, creating a safety concern, often described as a "dead pedal". It has caused me to get into numerous situations where i could've gotten hit by other vehicles. It is so dangerous! The dealership is unable to fix it and says to disconnect the battery regularly to try and "help" the issue.

There is a well-known issue with these new model Toyota tundras where there are problems with acceleration. When at a stop and pulling out from the stop, the engine and acceleration hesitate, and there is a flag of between 2 to 5 seconds before the vehicle starts moving. The gas pedal is depressed and there is a hesitation or lag of several seconds before forward movement progresses. There was a Toyota safety bulletin update that was supposed to fix the problem and it did not. Many users are still reporting the same problem and it’s just as bad as it was before. This creates a massive safety issue when pulling into traffic or trying to increase speed to keep up with the flow of traffic when initially pulling out. My truck specifically is experiencing this anywhere from one to three times a week.

Throttle response occasionally drops out. Lag when trying to accelerate from a stop, then kicks in and the truck surges forward.

Truck regularly experiences throttle lag leading to dangerous/hesitating entry into traffic/intersections. Either each occurrence, after 1 to 4 seconds the vehicle will lurch forward hard after the pause. It has also happened when accelerating to pass on the highway. This also happened with the original and replaced engine.

Throttle delay is extremely dangerous and has nearly caused numerous accidents

Car stalls from stop during acceleration. There are times when there is no response from throttle.

When trying to accelerate from a stop this truck lags and hesitates to the point of stalling almost when pulling into or crossing traffic. I have been in many near miss collisions due to the hesitation and lack of response. This has been going on since I’ve owned the truck in 22 and the dealership failed to address it or even acknowledge it.

Ever since I got this truck, I’ve experienced intermittent hesitation/lag when accelerating from a stop. I’ve reported it to the dealer several times and am always told they cannot reproduce. The problem was NOT improved after the engine replacement. This is dangerous - when pulling into traffic I cannot always count on my truck actually MOVING when I press the accelerator.

THIS VEHICLE HAS TERRIBLE THROTTLE LAG/DELAY, SOMETIMES LASTING UP TO 4 SECONDS. THIS POSES A SERIOUS THREAT WHILE PULLING OUT IN TRAFFIC.

Throttle Lag. When stopped at a stop sign, I attempted to accelerate and when I pressed the pedal, the vehicle didn’t respond. I had to release the gas pedal, wait a second, then attempt to accelerate again. This time it responded.

The truck has a hesitation to start from stop/slow state. This is concerning because when I start to accelerate, sometimes it doesn’t want to go for a 1-2 second time period making it unsafe to pull into traffic. It is sporadic and seems to happen more when I start and stop in quick succession.

Bought the truck from BILL LUKE MARANA was told there were no major safety issues with recalls and that the only recall was debris in engine that didn't have a fix yet.... drove the car from dealership to home, upon arriving home my wife smelled gas, i thought it was cleaning fluid smell or something. drove the truck to circle k smelled gas but though it was circle k . drove the truck once more to pick up an employee so i could drop him off to drive home the car i left at the dealer . During this drive the smell of gas became undeniable . Upon arrival home the truck was parked my employee ( who had been driving behind in a different car) jumped out and said the truck was spraying gas . My daughter exited the passenger side of the vehicle and was misted with gasoline....

I recently put my boat in the water with my 2022 Toyota Tundra at local boat launch. When I put the boat in the water my truck registered a quarter tank of gas. After launching and loading the boat my truck registered a full tank of gas and would not reset or adjust the fuel gauge once it was on a level surface. I found several complaints on the Toyota forum regarding the fuel gauge improperly reading a full tank after being on an incline and not adjusting once on a level surface. I was forced to disconnect the negative battery cable to reset the fuel sensor. Fast forward the truck was at the dealer on 7/28/2025 for the engine replacement. I asked them to look into the fuel gauge sensor issue and was advised that there is a Toyota TSB for the sensor and it needed a computer reflash,...

Gas mileage at best 12MGP on full tank, despite highway driving and does not matter what mode the truck is in ... dealership refusing to look at potential issue ... wide reports on forum on very low gas mileage

Transmission or engine has a lag, or dead spot from a complete stop to acceleration, such as leaving a stop light. At times barely noticable, other times it seems the engine is going to die. Dangerous when pulling onto a busy street from a side street. Dealership says "unable to replicate" which is understandable, as it's somewhat intermittent. This appears to be with all model year 2022 and newer Toyota Tundras.

At random times, from a dead stop, there is a significant ‘dead pedal’ issue with my truck when I try to accelerate. This is is followed by a huge surge in power to catch up and it lurches forward. It’s very inconsistent and worries me about turning out into regular traffic at times

Multiple times a day, when I push on the accelerator there is a delay. I’ve almost been hit a couple of times.

Occasionally, upon coming to a stop or from the stopped position the vehicle briefly hesitates when trying to accelerate cause the vehicle to aggressively jerk once the vehicle begins to accelerate, sometimes leaving you in the middle of an intersection or in a dangerous situation in traffic due to unresponsive acceleration inputs.

Hesitation when pulling out from a stop. Enough of an unplanned delay that it’s dangerous from cross-traffic at an intersection. Complained to dealer and they “updated” the computer and it still happens.

Major throttle response issues. Long delay when pressing accelerator, and when under heavy acceleration, if you let off the gas because of an obstacle, the truck continues to apply propulsion. Both issues could create an unsafe situation or cause a collision

The engine hesitated going up a hill by my house. I’ve gone up the hill many times in this truck and other cars and never had the problem. I turned it off and started it again but I do t know if I should keep driving. The dealer says I can’t get the recall done yet.

There is hesitation when depressing the accelerator. After stopping at stop sign then trying to move into traffic the vehicle will not move for several seconds. When the vehicle does move it takes off at an increased rate. This has happened several times from the first day the vehicle drove off the lot until present day.

Vehicle sporadically hesitates when accelerating from stop. Cause unknown. Dealer declined to address condition because they could not replicate it.

Vehicle hesitates when pressing the accelerator, especially when pulling off after a complete stop. This doesn't happen 100% of the time. From my experience, this happens 65-70% of the time with varying degrees of hesitancy. It's a safety issue as you never know when this is going to happen and to what degree; especially when crossing traffic lanes at an uncontrolled street crossing. I have spun out of my gravel driveway many times due to the hesitation.

Vehicle failed to accelerate when throttle pressed.

Truck has hesitation when throttle is pressed. Worse when cold and/or when truck starts nose down from a stop. Dangerous when pulling into traffic.

Throttle response is delayed intermittently. When proceeding from a stop or slow speed the truck will randomly have delayed acceleration. Then all of the sudden begins to accelerate with greater power and breaks the rear wheels free.

There is a hesitation when applying a gas pedal after a stop or rolling stop. This is a safety issue when trying to merge into traffic as the small delay in acceleration can cause an accident. The dealer stated that this is normal operation for the vehicle.

THROTTLE LAG WHEN PRESSING GAS PEDAL. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MULITIPLE OCCASIONS. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING WHEN I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. NO WARNING LIGHTS INDICATING THIS. I FEAR THAT IF THIS DOES NOT GET FIXED MY FAMILY AND I WILL BE SEVERLEY INJURED OR MAY END UP DEAD. I TOOK IT TO 2 TOYOTA DEALERS. ONE IN SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS AND ONE IN DEL RIO, TEXAS THEY BOTH SAID, "WE SEE NOTHING WRONG. AND TO BRING IT IN WHEN IT STARTS HAPPENING AGAIN." ALSO THEY STATED THAT TOYOTA HAS NOT SENT ANY RECALLS OUT FOR THIS SO THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING TO HELP.

Hesitation upon acceleration causing dangerous situations and have almost been in an accident 3 times.

Vehicle has throttle lag when pushing the accelerator. Multiple times since owning vehicle, when pushing the accelerator pedal the engine/vehical doesn’t accelerate. This normally is from a complete stop situation. I have never seen any dashboard warning lights regaurding this issue. This has created on more than a handful of occasions myself and other occupants to be put in danger. I have not had a dealer look at this issue nor have any other agencies been involved. I do believe Toyota is aware of this but have not taken my vehical in for them to look at it.

The fuel line recall is still pending post temporary fix late ’23 early ‘24

Vehicle had 11,000 miles on it and just was serviced at the dealership the day before. I was stopped in the middle turn lane trying to turn left. I hit the gas to cross 2 lanes of traffic and my engine stalled. I barely made it across traffic and the oncoming traffic had to slow down in order to avoid a T-bone type accident. The dash board lit up like a Christmas tree with warning lights. I still had battery power and able to slowly pull over to a side road, nothing more than 10mph. The engine would not turn over or engage. I power off the vehicle, let it sit for a couple minutes. I attempted to start the vehicle again, but there was no power to anything. I’ve been attempting to get a recall fix for a while. Dealership won’t give me any updates other than “ we are still pending the part” since Feb 2024.

I have a 2022 Tundra that I purchased new. My current mileage is 18,500 and although my truck is part of the engine replacement recall that is not what I am complaining about, what I am complaining about is my front passenger window got stuck halfway open/closed and it's been sitting at the dealership for 2 weeks with no parts available to fix it (the cable snapped and motor burned out). They did put me in a rental (tacoma) but they have no idea when the parts will be available to fix my window! This is my 4th Tundra and never had an issue like this with any of my others. I've already called Toyota and they have no idea when parts will be available either. They also said they have no parts to fix the temporary fuel line recall which has been out for almost 1 year.

Recall 23TA09 (Interim Remedy Notice 23TB09) is coming up on 11 months since it was introduced. It took until December 2023 for the Interim Remedy to be ready. We are approaching nearly a year since this was introduced with no full remedy, causing a decline in trade-in value and dealers are unable to sell these vehicles as TCUV (Toyota Certified Used Vehicles) due to the nature of the recall. And no with the latest recall, 24TA07, we will be left out for the foreseeable future due to the engine recall not having any remedy available. This really is unacceptable.

Engine is running rough, Engine is idling very high went first start.,I am concerned about the temporary fuel line repair. I don’t believe it is sufficient because we are dealing with fuel. Fuel line should be replaced along with the engine having debris in it, I am concerned with even driving it. A brand new truck shouldn’t have all these recalls! This is like the 5th one. I pay to much money to drive a truck that I’m scared of driving. At this point tell them to give me back my money and I will go purchase a horse. Thank you!

Suddenly the gas gauge shows tank isfull even that it can be empty. I took the truck to the dealer for this issue, but it seems that there isn't a fix. I've heard some other Tundra owners have the same issue. This can be dangerous if I trust the gauge and forget to fill the tank before towing my 7k trailer.

Toyota annouced a safety recall (23TA09) in August 2023 on a plastic fuel line that may leak due to rubbing. A temporary fix was available which my dealer installed, but its coming up to a year from the original recall with no remedy available. Why is this taking so long?
