I took my 2006 Toyota Tacoma ext cab 4x4 v6 to have diagnostic run on it . "EXACT PERFORMANCE " Johnson drive . KCK The differential was shot . However , that was not the final . They did not do full diagnostic . They informed me that my frame was rotted and rusted through and would not last till spring and was a safety hazard. That was Dec. 2024 . The truck has been parked since . Ive had no transportation and can not run right out and buy another truck . I am also not willing to give up the truck either . I have put a lot of hard earned money into this truck believing it to last forever . The motor and train are sound . I do not want to junk the truck . Please , tell me what I can do . Yes ....

The frame of my 2006 Toyota Tacoma (VIN: [XXX] ) is severely corroded and compromised. I recently acquired the vehicle and discovered that it was part of a past Toyota recall/program for frame corrosion inspection and replacement. However, it appears the previous owner did not take the vehicle in for the service. The frame now shows advanced rust and structural weakness, which puts my safety and the safety of others at risk. I am concerned that the recall program was not adequately communicated or tracked, and I am requesting that the NHTSA review this issue for potential reopening or expansion of coverage for affected vehicles like mine. The vehicle is available for inspection if needed. Thanks. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that the vehicle failed the State Inspection because there was a hole approximately 3 inches wide on the driver's side of the vehicle near the catalytic converter. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who confirmed that the hole was caused by extensive rust and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was a recall issued twice; however, the recall had expired. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

I went in to get my truck worked on & was told it was not safe. The frame is rusted and cracked. I did not receive a recall notification. Now, I have a broken truck and cannot afford to buy another vehicle or pay to repair this one. This is a safety hazard for the other people on the road and a death trap for the owners with vehicles that Toyota will not stand behind.

Toyota Tacoma 2006 TRD, This vehicle was recalled for rust to the frame on 10/03/2018. The frame was replaced by Sheehy Toyota of Fredericksburg, Virginia. The work was done and completed con 02/07/2019. The vehicle supposedly was thoroughly inspected for any problems by the dealership. Then released to me after the work was done. Then in November of 2019 I moved from Virginia to Nebraska. Used this truck to move with and pulled a trailer over 2,000 miles with it. Little did I know my life was in danger due to negligence by the dealers service department. Recently I replaced the rear bumper on this truck. By doing this it fully exposed the trailer hitch system on the truck. This is when I clearly seen that a part of the trailer hitch was completely rusted through. When replacing the frame on this truck the dealership had to notice this severely...

Frame and others components are very rusted
#11585287 |
Hi My name is [XXX] I currently own a toyota 2006 tacoma for which the frame broke this week and now not drivable. I learned when I took my car to a local dealer for a recall seat belts and other issues in 2021, the Dealer told me that the frame was very rust and that I needed to contact Toyota USA as there was a recall to rusted frames that involved my vehicle year make. I called Toyota back then and they told me there was nothing they can do as that safety recall was expired. We cannot afford to pay oop for the fix of the frame and plus I emphasized to Toyota that I had never been notified at least I never got a notice. At this point I'm very concerned for my husband safeness that is the car he uses for work, we have been a...

There are holes in the frame and the frame mounts. Sold with a clean title
#11572412 |
This truck is for sale in Oregon with HOLES/RUST on the frame and the frame mount. It is being sold with a clean title which clearly with the frame damage it is considered a branded title. The car lot that is selling the truck will no disclose the frame issue when asked about the structure damage on the truck. BUYERS BEWARE!!!

I will try to give you as concise statement of my complaint as possible, however, I have copies I sent to the manufacturer and others that I'm willing to furnish you if requested. On 3/18/21, I wrote to Toyota's Executive VP , Chief Quality Officer, [XXX], stating my compliance with their notice of 7/9/15, requiring frame inspection, significant perforation not found, therefore they applied CRC corrosion resistant compound to my frame. As NO critical problem was noted, I felt I was good until during a later inspection was performed and rated more attention. On 3/29/21 during my next oil change I noted on a notation on an unusual service bill, typewritten not the usual custom printed type, a notation that I have 2 holes, approx. 3.5" on my frame, use caution if driving". At this time I found there was an open class action suit against Toyota. Toyota advised me...

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated while having the vehicle repaired under recall, the mechanic stated that the subframe was rusted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was 50,000.

1. Frame was replaced under recall due to excessive corrosion, and now it's corroding again and should be replaced. also the trailer hitch is excessively corroded and was not replaced during the recall. I pull trailers all the time with this truck and don't want there to be failure with the hitch due to excessive corrosion. 2. The body paint and clear coat on this vehicle is weak and needs constant attention, and the body material turns to rust right away. This subject needs attention.

I recently bought this Tacoma used and just found out from my local mechanic that the frame is severely rusted and likely unsafe to drive. I immediately scheduled a frame inspection with Toyota. They confirmed that it was very unsafe to drive and gave me a quote of $14,711 to fix it. This is more than the value of the truck. Although Toyota acknowledged that there was a service campaign for rust issues on these trucks they said it had expired and there was nothing I could do.

Never received recall on frame, why wasn't I sent a recall and why don't dealership notify me when leaf springs were replaced?
#11440256 |
The mechanic noticed rust the frame was rusty so recommend I take it to a metal shop to get an estimate for re-welding the frame and they are hesitant to even work on it because of how corroded it is. The cab is almost detached from the frame and the support above the rear axle is about to snap in half.

My frame rusted and broke into where spring hanger bolts to the frame. They are saying n was recalled but time has ran out but I did not receive a recall notice as we moved to another area of the state ( Ashtabula) where we bought a shop for our oilfield business then we moved to ( Cambridge ) and are now renting our first home from my daughter who bought it in New Concord. Sad thing is we had it to repair shop and had new steering, power steering pump, new front axles and no one said hey you should look at this frame it is rotten and I have a picture I can send you if you'd like.So it is totally broke into and the spring hanger is not attached and pushed the bed up and the driver nearly wrecked and we had to haul it back on...

The frame of the car is rusted and deemed unsafe. Due to the rust of the frame the car could be unsupported and cause potential harm to the driver and others on the road. The problem has been identified by a dealer and manufacturer. There were no warnings on the car about this.

I HAVE A BLACK-COLORED 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA PICKUP TRUCK. FOR MANY YEARS, I'VE WONDERED WHY THE PAINT ON THE HOOD CHIPPED OFF IN TINY CIRCLES, UNLIKE ANY OTHER MODEL VEHICLE THAT I HAVE EVER OWNED. RECENTLY, I WAS SHOCKED TO SEE HOW BADLY RUSTED A SECTION OF THE ROOF OF MY CAB WAS. I CHECKED ONLINE TO SEE IF OTHERS WERE HAVING A SIMILAR ISSUE AND FOUND PEOPLE COMPLAINING OF THIS SEEMED TO OWN PICK-UPS THAT WERE ALSO PAINTED BLACK, AND WERE ALSO 2006 MODELS. THE RUST PATTERNS SEEMED SIMILAR IN EVERY PICTURE I VIEWED, A PORTION OF THE ROOF ABOVE THE DRIVERS SIDE, RUSTED THE LENGTH FROM NEAR THE FRONT WINDSHIELD AREA TO NEAR THE BACK OF THE CAB. IN MY OPINION, AND BASED ON THE PICTURES OF SIMILAR INSTANCES I'VE VIEWED ONLINE, THERE SEEMS TO POSSIBLY BE SOME COMPELLING EVIDENCE OF A DEFICIENCY IN THE PAINTING METHOD OR...

TOYOTA WAS FORCED TO GIVE A WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT FOR FRAMES ON A NUMBER OF TRUCKS BECAUSE OF RUST. THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED BUT I SILL HAVE THE OLD RUST PRONE FRAME. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL THAT DOES NOT EXPIRE, WHAT HAPPENS TO ME DOWN THE ROAD WHEN MY FRAME FAILS? SINCE THE PROBLEM WILL NOT GO AWAY HOW IS THE WARRANTY LIMITED? THIS IS NOT RIGHT, HOW CAN I RESELL A TRUCK THAT HAS A FAULTY FRAME? I AM UPSET THEY GOT AWAY WITH OUT A RECALL.

THE ENTIRE FRAME OF THIS GARAGE KEPT TRUCK IS COMPLETELY RUSTED THOUGH. THIS TRUCK AS ONLY 61,000 MILES ON IT & IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE REAR LEAF SPRING MOUNTS ARE BROKEN & HAVE PUNCTURED THE GAS TANK. THE ELECTRICAL WIRING TO DO WITH THE SAFETY NEUTRAL SWITCH, WHICH IS TIED INTO THE ENTIRE FROM WIRING HARNESS HAS CAUGHT FIRE TWICE. TOYOTA HAS BEEN NOTIFIED ABOUT ALL OF THIS, IN DETAIL, & THEY COULD CARE LESS ABOUT MY OWN OR ANYONE ELSE'S SAFETY. THERE ISN'T A SCRATCH ON THIS TRUCK & HAS REALLY LOW MILES YET IS SO UNSAFE TO USE BECAUSE OF POOR CONSTRUCTION ON TOYOTA'S PART.

MY 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA WAS RECALLED DUE TO TOYOTA'S FRAME RUST AND CORROSION ISSUE. AFTER NOTIFICATION, JULY 2015, I BROUGHT MY CAR TO TOYOTA OF WALLINGFORD (DEALER) AS INSTRUCTED IN THE RECALL NOTICE FOR A FRAME INSPECTION. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE TRUCK FRAME AND SAID IT WAS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR A NEW FRAME AS THE FRAME PASSED THEIR INSPECTION. I DISPUTED THIS BECAUSE I WAS ABLE TO PUSH MY FINGER THROUGH PARTS OF THE FRAME. THEY INSISTED THAT THE INTEGRITY WAS SOUND. THEIR RECOMMENDATION WAS TO SPRAY THE CAR WITH A CORROSION RESISTANT COVERING (CRC). AFTER SOME DEBATE I TOOK THEIR RECOMMENDATION AND AUTHORIZED THE WORK. THE CRC WAS A THICK BLACK GEL THAT COVERED THE FRAME, SO RUST, ROT AND DETERIORATION WAS COMPLETELY HIDDEN. IN RETROSPECT, I BELIEVE THEY INTENTIONALLY COVERED THE RUST SO ISSUES COULD NOT BE DETECTED AND RE-INSPECTION DID NOT OCCUR. RECENTLY I HAD TO REPLACE...

WHEN TOYOTA RECALLED TAKOMA TRUCKS FOR FRAME RUST I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH RUST TO QUALIFY. NOW WHEN I HAD IT CHECKED OU THE MECHANIC SAID IT ISN'T SAFE TO DRIVE ANY MORE. WHEN I COMPLAINED TO TOYTA CUSTOMER SERVICE THEY SAID THE TIME FOR REPLACING THE FRAMES WAS OVER. THE TRUCK IS STILL DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AND I FEEL THE FRAME SHOULD BE REPLACED.

FRAME RUST. TRUCK WAS TREATED DURING THE RECALL IN DEC 2014 AND DEALER STATED IT WOULD BE FINE. 5 YEARS AND 19,000 MILES LATER, THE FRAME IS TOTALLY RUSTED THROUGH. CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY SAID THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAN DO BECAUSE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. VEHICLE WAS TREATED AND IF TREATED CORRECTLY IT SHOULD HAVE LASTED LONGER THAN 5 YEARS.

THERE WAS A RECALL FOR FRAME RUST ON TACOMA TRUCKS BETWEEN 2005-2010. MY TRUCK WAS AFFECTED WITH THIS RECALL AND I TOOK IT TO A TOYOTA DEALER IN DEC 2014 FOR EVALUATION. THE DEALER SAID THE FRAME WAS FINE BUT THEY APPLIED A CORROSION PROTECTION SPRAY AND SAID THAT WOULD PROTECT THE FRAME. IN AUGUST 2019, WE NOTICE A GOOD BIT OF RUST ON THE FRAME AND TOOK IT TO A DIFFERENT TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY SAID THERE'S A LOT OF RUST AND THE FRAME IS RUSTED THROUGH. IN 2014 WHEN TREATED AS A SOLUTION TO THE RECALL, THE TRUCK HAD 56,853 MILES ON IT. IN AUGUST 2019 WHEN WE TOOK IT IN FOR EVALUATION, THE TRUCK HAD 75,239 MILES ON IT. SINCE 2014, WE ONLY PUT 19,092 MILES ON THE TRUCK. ATTACHED IS SOME PHOTO'S OF THE FRAME AND 1 OF THE TRUCK TO SHOW THE CONDITION OF THE...

MY TACOMA IS A LEASURE/WORK VEHICLE, GARAGED AND MAINTAINED WITH 65K MILES. WITHIN THIS MONTH I HAD A MAIN EXHUAST HANGER THAT WAS WELDED TO THE FRAME BREAK AWAY AND TAKE A LARGE PART OF THE FRAME WITH IT, THEN THANKS TO MY WIFE SHE NOTICED AN ODDITY UNDER THE BED AND IT WAS THAT 2 OF MY GAS TANK STRAPS HAD BROKEN. I INFORMED THE LOCAL DEALER (KOLAR) AND TOYOTA, THEY RESPONDED BY SAYING THAT DUE TO ITS ADVANCED YEARS, THEY WOULD NOT HELP AND ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE. IF I HAD BEEN TRAVELING DOWN I35 TO THE CITIES AT 85 MPH AND THE TANK CAME OFF, AND IT STRUCK MY OR ANOTHER VEHICLE THIS NOTE WOULD BE WORDED VERY DIFFERENTLY. 97,224 MILES. THE FRAME IS RUSTED AND BROKEN AT THE LEFT FRONT NEAR THE CAB MOUNT UNDER THE DOOR. MY TRUCK WAS MADE IN CANADA, BUT I PURCHASED IT USED IN MINNEASOTA, SO IT'S REGISTERED IN US. CANADA'S FRAME WARRANTY CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT REQUIRES MY TRUCK TO BE REGISTERED IN CANADA TO QUALIFY FOR A NEW FRAME AND TOYOTA US REQUIRES MY TRUCK TO BE MADE IN THE US TO QUALIFY FOR THE MASSIVE FRAME RECALL HERE. WHAT CAN I DO TO MAKE MY OTHERWISE VERY NICE TRUCK SAFE TO DRIVE AGAIN? THE CRACK WAS DISCOVERED DURING AN OIL CHANGE AND I HAVE ONLY DRIVEN IT 1/2 A MILE SINCE. THANK YOU.

THE GAS TANK STRAPS RUSTED AND THE GAS TANK FELL FROM THE BODY OF THE TRUCK WHILE IN MOTION AT LOW SPEED ENTERING A PARKING LOT. THE VEHICLE WAS PART OF THE NORTH EAST CORROSION RECALL AND SERVICED IN NOV 2015. HOWEVER, THE STRAPS WERE NOT REPLACED AND FAILED ABOUT 21 MONTHS LATER. CASE FILED WITH TOYOTA, 1708182077 WITH NO RESOLUTION NOR CONCERN WITH THE CONDITION. IRA TOYOTA OF MANCHESTER INVOICE# 736796 REPLACED THE FUEL SUB-ASSY BANDS P/N 77601-04050 AND 77602-04010. A SMALL AMOUNT OF FUEL WAS SPILLED DUE TO THE LOW SPEED OF TRAVEL AT THE TIME AND SHORT DISTANCE TO STOP THE VEHICLE (ABOUT 5MPH AND 30 FEET). CONCERN IS FOR THE SAFETY OF THOSE THAT MIGHT HAVE STRAPS FAIL WHILE AT HIGHER SPEED.

I WENT TO MY MECHANIC FOR A SMALL REPAIR RECENTLY AND HE INFORMED ME (AND SHOWED ME) EXTENSIVE RUST ON THE FRAME AND A MAJOR SPLIT IN THE FRAME FROM THE EXTENSIVE RUST. HE HAS TOLD ME THAT PERFORATIONS ARE IMMINENT IN THE FRAME AND THAT THE FRAME WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. HE ALSO FOUND RUST DAMAGE TO MY BRAKES, ROTORS, PAINT (CHIPPING WITH RUST), WHEEL CAPS, AND TAILGATE. HE INFORMED ME THAT I CANNOT SAFELY DRIVE THIS TRUCK ON DIRT ROADS OR HAUL ANYTHING. 75% OF THE ROADS WHERE I RESIDE ARE DIRT ROADS. COST OF FRAME REPLACEMENT WOULD EXCEED WHAT I PAID FOR THE TRUCK; I HAVE OWNED THIS TRUCK FOR 6 MONTHS. I PURCHASED A USED 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA SEVERAL YEARS AGO. MY MECHANIC RECENTLY NOTICED SEVERE RUST DAMAGE TO MY FRAME WHEN PERFORMING AN OIL CHANGE. THEY MENTIONED TO ME ABOUT A CAMPAIGN THAT TOYOTA WAS DOING WHERE THEY WERE REPLACING FRAMES OR COATING THEM. WHEN I INQUIRED ABOUT THIS I LEARNED THAT THE CAMPAIGN HAD EXPIRED ON 3/31/16. I SPOKE WITH AN EXECUTIVE WITH TOYOTA SEVERAL TIMES ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING FURTHER SINCE IT IS AFTER THE EXPIRATION DATE. THEY SAID THEY MAILED OUT 3 NOTICES IN REGARDS TO THE CAMPAIGN IN WHICH I DID NOT RECEIVE A ONE. I OBVIOUSLY WOULD HAVE TAKEN CARE OF SUCH A SAFETY ISSUE HAD I KNOWN. I AM VERY SURPRISED THAT TOYOTA WOULD NOT EXTEND THIS CAMPAIGN OR THAT IT WOULD NOT BE DEEMED AS A FULL BLOWN RECALL WITH NO EXPIRATION! HOW CAN SUCH A SERIOUS...

MAJOR FRAME RUST ISSUE. FRAME IS RUSTED TO THE POINT OF PERFORATION. BACK ON 6/23/14 TOYOTA ADVISED SPRAYING THE UNDERCARRIAGE, WHICH WAS DONE AT A DEALERSHIP REPAIR ORDER #0840463. WENT BACK TO HAVE THE LEAF SPRINGS FIXED DUE TO RECALL AND TO HAVE THE FRAME INSPECTED. NOW THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THE FRAME RUST RECALL EXPIRED IN MARCH OF 2016 AND IT IS OUT OF THEIR HANDS. NEED TO KNOW HOW TO GET TOYOTA TO FIX THE FRAME SINCE THE SPRAYING DID NOT RECTIFY THE PROBLEM AND IT CONTINUES TO GET WORSE.
