2006 TOYOTA PRIUS. LETTER FROM RE ONSTAR FMV DEFECT *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE SYSTEM LIGHT FAILED TO LIGHT, EXCEPT WHEN ONE WAS TALKING TO THE ONSTAR ADVISOR. THEN IT FLASHED GREEN ON AND OFF AS ADVERTISED. HOWEVER, WHEN THE SYSTEM WAS ON AND PRESUMABLY READY FOR USE, THE GREEN LIGHT DID NOT ILLUMINATE. SO FAR, THE CONSUMER WAS TO CONNECT TO THE ONSTAR ADVISOR WHEN THE LIGHT WAS OFF. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED SEVERAL ANSWER AS TO WHY THE SYSTEM WAS NOT WORKING AS ADVERTISED. THE CONSUMER STATED THE UNIT IS MALFUNCTIONING AND MAY NOT WORK IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. *JB THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A CALL FROM ONSTAR STATING THE PROBLEM HE WAS HAVING, WAS DUE TO IMPROPER INSTALLATION, BECAUSE OF AN INTERNAL BATTERY THAT REQUIRED A CONNECTION BEFORE USE. I HAVE TWO SMART KEYS FOR 2006 TOYOTA PRIUS. ONE OF THEM LOSE SMART FUNCTION AND REMOTE FUNCTION. WHEN A BUTTON IS PRESSED, RED LIGHT IS NOT ON AT ALL. I HAVE TESTED FOB BATTERY AND IT IS OK. I BELIEVE THAT THE SMART KEY IS DEFECTIVE. *TR
MY HEADLIGHTS ARE INTERMITTENTLY FAILING ON MY 2006 PRIUS. THE DEALERSHIP HAS REPLACED BOTH THE LEFT AND RIGHT (AS A PAIR) HEADLIGHTS AT ~20,000 MILES AND AGAIN AT ~48,000 MILES. AND NOW AT 55,000 MILES, THEY ARE REPLACING ANOTHER FRONT HEADLIGHT HID BULB. THERE WERE TWO ADDITIONAL TIMES THAT I REQUESTED THE TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT CHECK THE LIGHTS AS I HAD BEEN TOLD BY A POLICE OFFICER THAT FRONT AND/OR BACK LIGHTS WERE OUT, BUT THE DEALERSHIP SAID ALL OF THE LIGHTS WERE FUNCTIONING. MY LIGHTS APPEAR TO WORK INTERMITTENTLY. I MAY HAVE BOTH HEADLIGHTS WORKING FOR A WEEK OR A MONTH OR MORE, THEN ONE OF BOTH MAY GO OUT, AND THEN ONE OR BOTH MAY START FUNCTIONING AGAIN. IT'S COMPLETELY VARIABLE. I NEVER KNOW IF ONE OF BOTH HEADLIGHTS WILL WORK AT ANY GIVEN TIME. IT'S FRUSTRATING AND SCARY- AS I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO TO FUNDAMENTALLY...
RECEIVED NOTICE FROM MANUFACTURER THAT I SHOULD REMOVE THE DRIVER'S SIDE FLOORMAT FROM MY CAR AS IT MIGHT CAUSE THE ACCELERATOR TO STICK. SAID THEY WOULD SEND MORE INFORMATION LATER. I REMOVED IT PROMPTLY BUT AM CONCERNED ABOUT MY SAFETY BECAUSE OTHER TOYOTAS WERE ADVISED OF THE SAME THING BUT THEIR ACCELERATORS STUCK ANYWAY AND IT WASN'T DUE TO THE FLOORMAT. SPOKE WITH THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THIS AND WAS ADVISED THAT MY "06 WAS NOT BEING RECALLED. SINCE TOYOTA HAS LIED AND EVADED ISSUES REPEATEDLY I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN MY CAR. I AM A REALTOR AND CARRY CLIENTS IN MY VEHICLE WHICH CREATES ADDITIONAL LIABILITY FOR ME. I WOULD LIKE TO TRADE CARS BUT THE VALUE OF MY CAR IS LESS DUE TO TOYOTA'S PROBLEMS. *TR
TOYOTA PRIUS 2006. I PRESSED ACCELERATOR ALL THE WAY DOWN TO ACCELERATE AND GOT STUCK THERE. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR WITH THE BRAKE. IT HAPPENS TWICE IN JULY 2009. ONCE I STOPPED THE CAR I CHECKED IF THE FLOOR MATS HAVE DONE SO. THE FLOOR MATS WERE NOT THE CAUSE. THE ACCELERATOR WAS STUCK ALL THE WAY DOWN EVEN WITH THE ENGINE OFF.... AND ONLY AFTER A MINUTE OR TWO OF THE CAR STOPPED AND ENGINE OFF DID CAME THE ACCELERATOR BACK. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALERS AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS THE MAT. I TOLD THEM THAT WAS NOT THE CASE. THE DEALER PUT SOME GREASE IN THE ACCELERATOR AND DID A FEW MORE THINGS (CLEANING AROUND AND THE FUEL INJECTION I THINK). SINCE THEN I HAVE AVOIDED PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR ALL THE WAY DOWN EVEN WHEN I NEED THE POWER TO...
BOUGHT '06 PRIUS 6/06. HAD TO HAVE BOTH HEADLIGHTS (HID) REPLACED IN NOV. 07 AFTER 57K MILES DUE TO THEM INTERMITTENTLY "GOING OUT" WHICH GOT WORSE WITH TIME. CURRENTLY (APR. 2009) AM EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE REPLACEMENT BULBS. *TR
HEADLIGHTS INTERMITTENTLY GO OUT ON BOTH THE PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE OF MY 2006 PRIUS. PROBLEM WAS IDENTIFIED BY DEALERSHIP AS MANUFACTURER DEFECT. DEALERSHIP REMOVED AND REPLACED HEADLIGHTS AND COMPUTERS. THE TOTAL COST FOR THE REPAIR BY FRONTIER TOYOTA WAS $1,323.86. I REQUESTED 100% REIMBURSEMENT WITH TOYOTA. TOYOTA AGREED TO PAY FOR PARTS ONLY. TOYOTA IS AWARE THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE PRIUS BUT DOES NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY THAT THIS SAFETY ISSUE IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE SAFETY ISSUE AND COST IS EXORBITANT. *TR
HEADLIGHT ON 2006 TOYOTA PRIUS INTERMITTENTLY GO ON AND OFF. THE COMPUTER AND BULB HAVE BOTH BEEN REPLACED TWICE, BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TO OCCUR. THIS HAS BEEN CONTINUOUS FOR TWO YEARS, DESPITE THE CONSTANT REPLACEMENT OF PARTS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWNS AND THE SPEED INCREASED TO 90 MPH. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN, BUT FAILED TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SAFELY MANEUVER THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER AND TURNED OFF THE IGNITION. UPON EXITING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE BRAKES WHERE SMOKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY DETERMINED THAT THE FLOORMAT WAS PINNED DOWN TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WHEN HE APPLIED THE BRAKES. THE BRAKES WERE COMPLETELY DESTROYED AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE COST OF $1,600. THE CONTACT IS IN THE PROCESS OF NOTIFYING THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 76,000. UPDATED 04-14-09 *BF UPDATED 04/15/09.*JB
ABOUT SIX MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING MY 2006 TOYOTA PRIUS THE HEADLIGHTS STARTING GOING OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THE BULB. THEY HAD SAID THAT THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS BEFORE. THE LIGHTS WORKED FOR ABOUT TWO MONTHS THEN OCCASIONALLY WOULD GO OUT AGAIN. NOW THAT MY WARRANTY HAS RUN OUT THEY ARE GOING OUT EVERY TIME I DRIVE THE CAR. THIS IS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE. WHEN YOU TURN THE SWITCH OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN THEY COME ON FOR AWHILE THEN TURN OFF AGAIN. THEY HAVE NEVER NOT COME ON, BUT DRIVERS IN FRONT OF YOU GET A BIT UPSET WHEN YOU START FLASHING YOUR HEADLIGHTS BEHIND THEM! I'VE NOTICED ON LINE THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE ON THE PRIUS. I HOPE THAT YOU CAN FORCE TOYOTA TO RECALL AND REPAIR THIS ISSUE. *TR
MY DRIVER SIDE HEADLIGHT WOULD INTERMITTENTLY TURN OFF. THIS OCCURRED ALMOST EVERYTIME I TURNED IT ON AND BY THE TIME I GOT TO DESTINATION (IT WOULD BE OFF). TURNING HEADLIGHT OFF AND THEN BACK ON WOULD WORK ONLY TEMPORARILY, UNTIL I DROVE FURTHER AND NOTICE IT OFF AGAIN BASED ON REFLECTION FROM CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THE IGNITER ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED BY DEALER YESTERDAY, BUT PROBLEM STILL EXIST. CAR IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER AGAIN FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSIS. *TR
I OWN A 2006 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE FRONT HEADLIGHT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE, WHICH IS AN HID LAMP, WORKS ONLY INTERMITTENTLY. THERE IS NO PATTERN AS TO WHEN IT WORKS AND DOESN'T, AND OFTEN I DO NOT KNOW WHEN THE PROBLEM IS OCCURRING BECAUSE I CAN'T SEE THE HEADLAMP (UNLESS I CAN SEE THE REFLECTION ON THE BACK OF ANOTHER CAR). OBVIOUSLY, THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN. I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE AT MY DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT TOYOTA KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM BUT REFUSES TO FIX IT AS A DEFECT IN THE HEADLAMP. *TR
HEADLIGHTS TURN OFF RANDOMLY. BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT HEADLIGHT TURN OFF BY ITSELF OR BOTH WILL TURN OFF TOGETHER WHILE DRIVING. PAID $385 FOR NEW HID LIGHT AS IT IS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY, BUT ISSUE STILL OCCURRING. PRIUS IN SHOP FOR THE THIRD TIME AND DEALER SAYS MOST LIKELY I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR ANOTHER NEW HID LIGHT TO ENSURE THAT IT IS NOT SIMPLY A HEADLIGHT ISSUE. WE HAVE BEEN PULLED OVER THREE TIMES FOR THIS ISSUE AND GIVEN A FIX-IT TICKET ONCE. DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE HEADLIGHTS TURN OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT ON DARK ROADS. *TR
IN SEPT 2006, MY LEFT HEADLIGHT BEGAN TO GO OUT INTERMITTENTLY. IT CAN BE RESTORED BY CYCLING THE LIGHT SWITCH OFF AND BACK ON. TOYOTA AT FIRST SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE FREQUENCY INCREASED, AND FINALLY, THEY (1) ASKED ME IF I HAD HAD ANY ACCIDENTS (NO), THEN SUGGESTED THAT THE BULB WAS DEFECTIVE. IT COSTS ~$1,000.00 TO REPLACE IT. I DIDN'T AT THE TIME, BUT EVENTUALLY THE SHERIFF CAUGHT ME AND I HAD TO FIX IT. IT WAS OK FOR A WHILE, BUT NOW THE RIGHT SIDE LAMP IS ALSO DOING THE SAME THING, AND OCCASIONALLY, BOTH LAMPS GO OUT AT THE SAME TIME. . I CAN'T AFFORD ANOTHER $1000 LIGHT BULB. THIS IS REALLY GETTING TO BE A *)#*. AND, IT'S UNSAFE. (I SPEND 5 HOURS A DAY IN THE COMMUTE, AND EVENTUALLY IT'S GOING TO GET ME KILLED). *TR

WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE ALL WEATHER FLOORMAT DISCONNECTED FROM THE HOOK, SLID FORWARD, AND STUCK TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT BECAME AWARE OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07E082000 (EQUIPMENT). THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE RECALL WAS ADDRESSED ON AN INDIVIDUAL VEHICLE BASIS AND DID NOT HAVE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION CONCERNING THE TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 15,300 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,005. UPDATED 3/4/08 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE MAT HAD BEEN RE-ATTACHED TO THE FLOOR HOOKS.
