CREW CAB SHORT BED. 5.6L. SE MODEL. 4WD. 97,171 MILES REAR DIFFERENTIAL CATASTROPHICALLY FAILED IN A MATTER OF A COUPLE OF MILES. PROGRESSIVELY LOUDER LOW FREQUENCY GROWL. CLUNK WHEN SHIFTING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE AND VICE VERSA. SEEPING DIFFERENTIAL GEAR OIL AND SEAL / BEARING FAILURE. CONSIDERABLE METAL SUSPENDED IN DIFFERENTIAL FLUID. ALL OF THIS HAPPENED IN A 24 HOUR PERIOD AND A COUPLE OF MILES AT LOW TO MODERATE CITY STREET SPEED. DRIVING HISTORY: MINIMAL 4WD OPERATION - PRIMARILY IN SNOW AND ICE DURING WINTER. NO MUDDING OR OFF ROADING. NO ROCK CLIMBING. HAVE FACTORY TOW PACKAGE AND TRANS. TOWS ULTRA LIGHT 24-FOOT TRAVEL TRAILER WEIGHING APPROXIMATELY 6,000 LBS (RATED TO TOW 9,500) FOUR TO FIVE TIMES A SUMMER. MAYBE 7,000 TOWING MILES. MAINLY FREEWAY AND CITY DRIVING. MINIMAL CARGO EVER IN BED. NORMALLY EMPTY. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN TITAN WITH ONLY 44000 MILES ON IT. DURING RECENT DRIVING IT SOUNDED AS IF THE RIGHT REAR WAS GRINDING TO PIECES. IT CONTINUALLY GOT WORSE SO I LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK TO SEE IF THERE WAS SOMETHING THAT WAS CAUGHT AND DRAGGING. IT WAS SO LOUD THAT PEOPLE WOULD STARE AT THE TRUCK WHEN IT PASSED BY. AFTER IT WAS TAKEN TO THE GARAGE THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE INSIDES OF THE RIGHT REAR AXLE WERE ALMOST COMPLETELY TORN APART. IT WAS VERY FORTUNATE THAT IT DID NOT CAUSE A SERIOUS PROBLEM WHILE DRIVING. THEY ALSO FOUND THAT THE LEFT AXLE WAS LEAKING AND WOULD LIKELY ALSO BREAK DOWN. THE COST TO REPAIR THE TRUCK WAS OVER $1700.00. *TR
BOTH REAR AXLE SEALS LEAKED AT 38,XXX IN 9/2009 AND WERE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. NO ISSUES FOR TWO YEARS. IN 8/2011 DRIVER SIDE IS LEAKING AGAIN. TRIED TO EXPRESS MY CONCERNS TO NISSAN AND WAS REJECTED BECAUSE OF "WARRANTY" ISSUES. SEEMS TO BE AN INHERENT PROBLEM EXPERIENCED BY A LOT OF 04-07' TITAN/ARMADA OWNERS. TSB ISSUED BY NISSAN TO REPLACE ENTIRE AXLE ASSEMBLY 5 MONTHS AFTER MY FIRST LEAK, BUT THEY DON'T FEEL IT'S THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO NOTIFY OWNERS WHO EXPERIENCED THE ISSUE PRIOR TO THE BULLETIN. WAS TOLD BY A NISSAN REP. THAT THE TSB IS A GUIDELINE FOR TECH'S. TO PROPERLY FIX AN ISSUE IF IT ARISES. I HAD THE ISSUE BUT IT WAS 5 MONTHS BEFORE THEY FIGURED OUT HOW TO DO A "PROPER" FIX, AND ACCORDING TO THEM IT DOESN'T APPLY TO ME UNLESS THE PART OR LABOR OR DRIVETRAIN WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. WAS TOLD...
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN TITAN. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS HE NOTICE THAT THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE IN THE REAR END. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED HIM THAT THERE WAS A METAL PIECE OF FRAGMENT IN THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 75,000.
THE AXLE SEALS LEAK INTERMITTINGLY ON BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE, REAR AXLE. GEAR OIL LEAKS OUT AND COATS THE BACKSIDE OF THE BRAKE/WHEEL ASSEMBLY. THIS IS THE SECOND INCIDENT ON THE DRIVER SIDE. THE FIRST TIME IT WAS FIXED UNDER WARRANTY AT APPROXIMATELY 20000 MILES. THE PASSENGER SIDE AXLE SEALS WERE FIXED UNDER WARRANTY AT APPROXIMATELY 25000 MILES.

I WAS MAKING A U TURN AND HEARD A POP FROM THE REAR END. I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO MY GARAGE AND WHEN THEY REMOVED THE COVER FROM THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL PIECES FELL OUT. IT HAD DESTROYED ITSELF. I'M GLAD I WASN'T DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AT THE TIME WITH MY WIFE AND TWO KIDS IN THE CAR. THINGS COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORST. I WAS DRIVING MY 2005 NISSAN TITAN XE AND WHILE IN A SNOW STORM AND PRESSED THE BUTTON AT 20 MPH TO ENGAGE THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE AND HEARD A CLUNK AND CONTINUED TO CLICK, CLICK, CLICK AND WOULD NOT ENGAGE INTO 4 WHEEL. BROUGHT TO DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME IT IS THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL CASE AND WOULD COST 1520 PLUS TAX TO REPLACE AND INSTALL, I THEN CALLED NISSAN 800 # AND ASKED TO GOODWILL PART BECAUSE THIS SEEM TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN TITAN. THE REAR AXLE IS LEAKING ALL OVER THE REAR BRAKES CAUSING A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE BRAKES. IT COULD CAUSE BRAKING FAILURE OR A FIRE IN THE REAR BRAKES. MY 2005 NISSAN TITAN HAS BEEN LEAKING REAR DIFFERENTIAL OIL FROM BOTH AXLE SEALS. THE FLUID HAS BEEN THROWN AROUND IN THE WHEEL WELLS AND HAS SOAKED ALL FOUR REAR BRAKE SETS IT HAS GREATLY INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE AND I FEEL THE FAULTY PARTS SHOULD BE COVERED BY NISSAN AS WELL AS NEW BRAKES, SERVICE AND EMERGENCY. RECENTLY MY GIRLFRIEND PARKED AND LEFT THE VEHICLE NEUTRAL WITH THE PARKING BRAKE ON. THE TRUCK THEN ROLLED DOWN MY DRIVEWAY AND HIT A TREE 5 FEET FROM MY DAUGHTERS SWINGSET! I FEEL THAT THE REASON IT ROLLED AWAY IS BECAUSE OF THE OIL ON THE BRAKE SHOES. MULTIPLE FAILURES OF RIGHT REAR AXLE SEAL. FAILURES AT MILEAGES OF 42186/86082/106492/131033. SAME PARTS REPLACED 43252-7S200 REAR AXLE SEAL, 43070-7S200 REAR SPACER, 40210-7S210 AXLE BEARING. AXLE FLUID DRAINS DIRECTLY ON TO BRAKE CAUSING LOSS OF FUNCTION ON RIGHT REAR WHEEL. ALSO HAS CAUSED POSSIBLE PREMATURE SHOCK ABSORBER WEAR.
4" INCHES OF NEW SNOW. BEFORE LEAVING WORK, I ENGAGED 4X4 HIGH. PULLING OUT FROM A STOP LIGHT, I NOTICED IT DIDN'T FEEL LIKE THE 4X4 WAS WORKING. NEXT MORNING, HAD A BIG PUDDLE OF DIFF FLUID ON GROUND. TOOK IT TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP, AND WAS TOLD FRONT DIFF WAS JUNK. THIS TRUCK HAS BEEN PUT IN 4X4 HIGH MAYBE 5 TIMES IN 80,000, ALWAYS ON ICY ROADS. *TR
I PURCHASED A USE 2005 NISSAN TITAN 4X4 IN MAY OF 2010. IN DECEMBER 2010 I WENT TO ENGAGE THE FRONT WHEEL DRIVE DUE TO DRIVING UP A ROAD THAT HAD SNOW AND ICE. AFTER COMPLYING WITH THE DIRECTIONS IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL I BEGAN DRIVING UP THE GRADE ONLY TO FIND THAT I HAD NO PULL FROM THE FRONT WHEELS. THIS ALMOST RESULTED IN THE LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE DUE TO LOSS TRACTION ON THE ROAD. ONE TIME THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE COMPLETE SLIDE BACK DOWN THE HILL, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO DO A COMPLETE 180 DEGREE TURN. DAYS LATER I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY MECHANIC AND FOUND THE FRONT AXLE HAD BECOME DETACHED. THEY ADVISED ME THAT THIS WAS THE SECOND TITAN THEY HAD SEEN DO THIS AND HAD HEARD THAT TITANS HAD A PROBLEM DETACHING WHEN DRIVEN IN FOUR WHEEL DRIVE MODE ON...
FAILED REAR END DIFFERENTIAL AT ONLY 75,000 MILES. DRIVING ON HIGHWAY WHEN A LOUD BANG CAME FROM THE REAR END. MADE IT HOME, BUT MORE POPPING AND BANGING NOISES ALONG THE WAY, ESPECIALLY TURNING UNDER ACCELERATION. DRAINED REAR DIFFERENTIAL FLUID AND REMOVED COVER, METAL CHUNKS AND SHAVINGS IN CASE. THIS VEHICLE HAS THE "BIG TOW" PACKAGE ON IT AND HAS NEVER BEEN USED TO TOW ANYTHING. IT HAS BEEN MOSTLY ON THE HIGHWAY AND OFF ROAD VERY INFREQUENTLY AND NEVER HEAVY-DUTY OFF ROAD. IT IS VERY FORTUNATE THAT THE FAILED REAR END DID NOT CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO LOCK THE REAR AXLE AND CAUSE A SEVERE ACCIDENT. THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE ON THIS MODEL OF VEHICLE, AND IN MY OPINION IS DUE TO A FAULTY LOCKING REAR DIFFERENTIAL. NISSAN WILL NOT ADMIT THIS, BECAUSE THE ENTIRE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND IT IS VERY EXPENSIVE....
I OWN A 2005 NISSAN TITAN PICKUP WHICH I PURCHASED NEW. THE VEHICLE HAS 57,000 MILES. MY DRIVEWAY IS STEEP AS I LIVE IN A REMOTE LOCATION. ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO I WAS HEADED TO TOWN. A MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO DO A TEMPORARY REPAIR TO ENABLE US TO DRIVE HOME AND WE THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO OUR LOCAL GARAGE TO HAVE IT FULLY INSPECTED. 2. THE FRONT RIGHT AXLE (HALF-SHAFT) OF THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE FELL OUT OF THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL UNIT. HAD THIS HAPPENED AT A HIGHER SPEED IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE OR EVEN 2 WHEEL DRIVE A LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL COULD OCCUR RESULTING IN A CRASH. 3. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL OF THE VEHICLE EVEN THOUGH THEY REALIZE THERE WAS A FAULTY BEARING DESIGN. THE BEARING HAS SINCE BEEN REDESIGNED BUT VEHICLES WITH THE DEFECTIVE BEARING ARE STILL IN SERVICE. THE LOCAL VEHICLE DEALER'S MECHANICS HAVE SAID THEY HAVE SEEN THESE INCIDENTS AND CAN REPLACE THE BEARING AT MY EXPENSE SINCE THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF...

AT 39,800 MILES THE POWER STEERING HOSE WENT BAD AND LEAKED. AT 51,000 MILES THE CIRCULAR CLIP ON THE AXLE AT FRONT LEFT DIFFERENTIAL DEFORMED CAUSING AXLE TO BEGIN TO FALL OUT OF VEHICLE!!! THANKFULLY ALL HAS BEEN COVERED UNDER OUR EXTENDED WARRANTY, AND DEALERSHIPS HAVE REPLACED PARTS, BUT WHEN IT RUNS OUT THESE WILL COME FROM OUR POCKET, AND NO ONE CAN GUARANTEE THE NEW PARTS ARE NOT JUST REPLACEMENTS OR ANY BETTER. I TOWED A 2990 LBS TRAILER FROM MICHIGAN TO WEST VIRGINIA, THE MORNING AFTER GETTING HOME I NOTICED THE LEAKS AND POPPING IN REAR END WHEN PULLING OUT. FIRST TIME TOWING WITH THIS TRUCK. MILEAGE IS ALL HIGHWAY. COMMUTED 120 MILES PER DAY TO WORK. I HAVE BEEN ON FORUMS AND SEEN COUNTLESS OTHERS WITH SAME PROBLEM. NISSAN IS VERY AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND WILL NOT EVEN MAKE PARTS AVAILABLE. THEY ARE JUST REPLACING THE ENTIRE REAR ENDS. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE TRUCKS AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED FOR IT. IT IS EVIDENT THAT THE NISSAN SETUP IS NOT DOING A GOOD JOB (BAD SEALS OR BAD VENTING CAUSING PRESSURE TO DESTROY THE SEALS. NISSAN TITAN 2005 4X4 64,400 MILES THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL STARTED JERKING AND POPPING. TOOK THE NISSAN DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL SPIDER GEARS FAILED AND THE ENTIRE REAR END WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE COST WAS $3200.00. THIS TRUCK IS MY WIFE'S REGULAR DIVER AND SHE TRANSPORTS THE KIDS TO SCHOOL IN IF THIS HAD HAPPENED AT HIGH SPEED IT COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
I HAD DRIVEN FROM MY COLLEGE TO MY CHIROPRACTORS OFFICE WITHOUT ANY INCIDENTS. WHEN LEAVING MY CHIROPRACTORS OFFICE I WAS BACKING OUT OF PARKING STALL WITH WHEELS TURNED TO THE RIGHT. ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE WAS A LOUD POP. BEING A MECHANIC I THOUGHT THAT I MIGHT HAVE UJOINT ISSUES. I CLIMBED UNDER AND CHECKED MY DRIVELINE AND EVERYTHING WAS IN GOOD ORDER. I THEN DROVE BACK TO MY COLLEGE WHERE I COULD GET MY TRUCK ONTO A LIFT AND CHECK IT OUT. IN THE 12 MILES FROM THE CHIROPRACTORS OFFICE TO THE COLLEGE IT HAD PROGRESSED TO THE POINT OF NOT BEING ABLE TO DRIVE. IT WOULD BIND WHEN TURNING LEFT AND DRAG WHEELS AS THOUGHT LIMITED SLIP WAS OUT. OR WHEN TURNING TO THE LEFT IT WOULD SOUND AS THOUGH SOMEONE HAD TAKEN A 20 POUND SLEDGE HAMMER AND HIT THE TAIL SHAFT OF THE TRANSMISSION. THE...
TRUCK STARTED MAKING CLUNK NOISE 5 MONTHS AGO EVERY ONE IN A WHILE I THOUGHT IT WAS STUFF IN THE BED OF THE TRUCK. LAST NIGHT I WAS TURNING A CORNER IS MADE A THE CLUNK NOISE AND EVERY TURN I TOOK UNDER POWER MADE THE CLUNK NOISE AND WHEN I START FROM A STOP ON WET DRIVING SURFACES. *TR

I CALLED NISSAN BECAUSE ONLY 10,000 OUT OF WARRANTY BUT TURNED DOWN. IF REAR END HAD WENT OUT AT SPEED THIS COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS...NISSAN NEEDS TO REPAIR THESE TRUCKS! *TR
2005 TITAN 4X4 TRUCK. I HAD A NEW SET OF TIRES PUT ON MY TRUCK. THE TIRE SHOP NOTICED FLUID LEAKING ONTO THE BACK PLATE OF THE BRAKE ON THE RIGHT REAR OF MY TRUCK. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE SAID IT WAS GEAR LUBE LEAKING OUT OF THE AXLE SEAL AND CONTAMINATED THE E-BRAKE AND PADS FOR THAT WHEEL. HE ALSO HAD TO CHANGE THE BEARING BECAUSE IT WAS PRESSED ON BETWEEN THE SEAL. *TR

WHILE DRIVING HEARD A CLANKING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE, AT TIMES FROM A STANDING STILL POSITION THE VEHICLE AS YOU TRY TO GO WILL SLIP AND YOU WILL HEAR CLANKING NOISES FROM THE REAR AND THE VEHICLE WILL JERK. NISSAN REPAIRED THE FIRST TIME DUE TO OUR EXTENDED WARRANTY. THEY SHOULD BE LIABLE BECAUSE THEY MUST KNOW THE REPAIR THEY DO WILL FAIL AGAIN.
