I am reporting a steering failure on my 2016 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque vin# [XXX] . The electric power steering assists motor separated from the steering rack due to the retention bolts that were severely corroded and snapped. The failure occurred without any warning, lights, messages, or prior symptoms. The vehicle became undriveable and posed a serious safety risk due to the loss of steering. I was driving down the road and my power steering stopped working. I could have caused a crash because I could not turn the steering wheel, but I was able to pull over on the highway. There is a recall out for this problem but for some reason my dealership and Land Rover in Scarborough Maine have said my VIN# is not part of the recall #N642 and repair will cost me $4,600.00. My mechanic has looked at my vehicle and the 3 bolts that hold the power steering pump in are all corroded and broke off. I have the parts and anyone can come take a look. There were no warning lights or messages.
