So I bought this used from a previous owner check engine light has come on quite a few times and I’ve gone to two separate places and it’s the catalytic converter efficiency coming up. My mechanic did a recall research and found that this specific vehicle not the VIN number had been recalled for issues with this, I would like to get my car added to the recall. I am a single mom. This is my only mode of transportation to him from work and to get my kids I bought this used and I’m pretty sure the owner knew something was wrong with it.
The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Patriot. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. The traction control warning light was then illuminated. The contact stated that the failure occurred several times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and a dealer; however, the vehicle had not yet been diagnosed. The contact was advised that there was no way to recreate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.
The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Patriot. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. While refueling, the fuel tank failed to allow all with fuel. The contact had to restart the vehicle and add more fuel several times. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact called the local dealer where a service appointment was scheduled. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that the failure was due to a faulty rollover valve and the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted but provided no assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000.
The catalytic converter failed. It had to be replaced.
While driving in heavy traffic, there was a Red light and attempted to slow the vehicle. The engine started to jerk forward and the RPMs were increasing without my foot on the accelerator! My foot was on the brake! I was able to turn into a gas station to get to a safer place to park the vehicle. While attempting to park in a parking space the vehicle continued to accelerate by itself, again my foot was applied to the brake pedal. I was literally fighting to stop the vehicle and almost ran into the barrier where customers were walking. Once turning off the vehicle and restarting the engine, it was operating correctly while I’m reverse. I then shifted into drive, and the vehicle lunged forward and the engine accelerated by itself. After filling up with gas, the vehicle sputtered, stalled and the steering locked up.
After filling up the gas tank, when I drive away, the car jerks and loses power for a minute with in a mile of leaving the gas station. Nj pumps gas for me so the tank is not overfilled. My power steering goes down for a moment as my car sputters. Then after a minute it drives great until the next time I fill up my tank. Forums have stated it is a bad charcoal cannister. Many jeep patriot owners have complained about this. It is very unsafe when this happens on the road. I fear driving my toddler now.
I brought my Jeep Patriot 2011 for a recall. However, after taking the vehicle to the dealer for a recall check out, the jeep came up with a sound like TA, TA,TA... from the gloves compartment and went I stated the air conditioning or the heating when the weather become cooler.
The vehicle completely shut down in the middle of accelerating into a turn. Full loss of power and the engine was hesitant to restart for a few minutes.

Every single time after putting gas, my car wont go further than 10 feet without turning off/stalling. Some times it wont turn back on and takes several tries to get it back up and running. I feel at risk for my life and those in the car with me because not only does it stall but my steering wheel locks everytime and I am unable to move or do anything. God forbid one day it stops and a car is headed in my direction I will be stuck in place. I have read online multiple people have had this issue but no one can seem to find a definitive solution. This started to happen around winter of 2019/spring 2020 and has been happening ever since. The date I recorded below is the most recent time it's occurred.

THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH THE FRONT AXLE AND THE CONTROL ARM NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 81,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONSUMER PROVIDED PHOTOS.
MY MECHANIC HAS BEEN TELLING ME THAT THE FRAME/SUBFRAME OF MY JEEP PATRIOT IS EXTREMELY CORRODED. THE RUST HAS CORRODED OTHER PARTS OF MY CAR AND IT CAN CAUSE SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUES. THE CORROSION HAS SERIOUSLY DETERIORATED THE REAR CROSS MEMBER OF MY CAR. I KNOW THERE HAS BEEN A NUMBER OF CLAIMS TO CHRYSLER ON THE STRUCTURAL DAMAGES OF SOME JEEP MAKES/MODELS. I ONCE TRIED CLAIMING THE WARRANTY BUT THE DEALER DENIED SERVICES TO MY CAR. I NEED HELP TO FIX THIS.

EVERY TIME GAS TANK IS FILLED THE CAR BUCKS THEN STALLS AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS. THIS HAPPENS RIGHT AFTER FILLING THE TANK AND PULLING OUT OF THE GAS STATION. I HAVE READ ON FORUMS THAT THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM IN JEEPS FOR YEARS BUT HAS YET TO BE ADDRESSED. ACCORDING TO THE POST THE ISSUE HAS TO DEAL WITH THE VAPOR/LIQUID SEPARATOR VALVE. ADDITIONALLY, I HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED ISSUES WITH GAS PUMPS SHUTTING OFF WHEN ATTEMPTING TO FILL THE TANK. I ATTEMPTED TO TAKE IT TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP WHERE I WAS TOLD I NEEDED A NEW GAS CAP. $100 LATER AND STILL THE SAME ISSUE.
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE JEEP AND IT TURNED OFF ON HER TWICE TRYING TO GET IT BACK HOME. ALL ELECTRICAL WENT OUT AND ENGINE STALLED. AFTER THE SECOND TIME IT ONLY GOES 10 MPH AND STILL STALLS AND POWERS OFF. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AND I FEEL SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE FROM THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ON THE WEB.

WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY ABOUT 65 THE JEEPS MOTOR SHUT OFF AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN. I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND PUT MY HAZARDS ON. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE BEFORE BUT I WAS NOT ON THE HIGHWAY. THE JEEP WILL START RIGHT BACK UP LIKE NOTHING WAS WRONG AFTER A FEW MINUTES. PLEASE HELP VERY DANGEROUS.

THE INSURANCE COMPANY DECLINED TO ASSIST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE CAR WILL LUNGE FORWARD THEN DECELERATE. HARD TO ACCELERATE. EVEN WHILE CRUISE CONTROL IS ON IT WILL LUNGE OR HESITATE. THE ENGINE LIGHT ALSO NEVER GOES OFF EVEN WHEN I HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM.
TRANSMISSION IS NOT WANTING TO SHIFT GEARS
YOU NEED TO RECALL THE TRANSMISSIONS IN THESE VEHICLES ITS RIDICULOUS HOW EXPENSIVE THEY ARE NO NORMAL PERSON CAN AFFORD THIS FIX. NOBODY IN WAYNE COUNTY EVEN WANTS TO WORK ON IT. O CANT AFFORD A NEW TRANSMISSION. I JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR. IT'S ONLY AT 120K . I LOVE MY JEEP. BUT IT IS NOTHING BUT STRESS AND DEPRESSION. IT IS NOT RIGHT MAN.
I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THE CAR WANTING TO STALL OUT. IT IS AS IF THE GAS IS NOT GETTING TO THE ENGINE. I BEGIN TO LOSE POWER AND STEERING. I GUN THE GAS, BUT IT HESTITATES. WE HAVE BEEN HAVING A RE-OCCURRING ISSUE WHERE AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK, THE CAR WILL STALL SHORTLY AFTER LEAVING THE GAS STATION. THE LATEST INCIDENT HAPPENED ON MAY 6, 2018 AFTER FILLING THE TANK AND LETTING THE PUMP'S AUTO-SHUTOFF STOP FUELING. LEAVING THE GAS STATION I PULLED OUT INTO A HIGH-SPEED 4 LANE ROAD AND AS I ACCELERATED THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN. I FILLED MY GAS TANK UP TODAY. AS I GOT ABOUT 3 MILES FROM THE GAS STATION THE CAR BEGAN TO SPUTTER AND LOSE ITS ABILITY TO ACCELERATE EFFICIENTLY THROUGH ALL THE GEARS. THE CAR WAS RUNNING ROUGH FOR ABOUT 15 MILES UNTIL I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY, AND BEGAN MAKING A WEIRD SOUND OUT OF THE EXHAUST, STILL IDLING ROUGH WHEN PARKED. I LOOKED INTO IT ONLINE AND MANY JEEP PATRIOT OWNERS ARE COMPLAINING OF SIMILAR ISSUES AFTER FILLING UP WITH GAS. THEY;RE SAYING IT'S AN ISSUE WITH A "FUEL TANK ROLLOVER VALVE" OR A "VAPOR LIQUID SEPARATING VALVE." EITHER WAY THIS ISSUE IS DANGEROUS AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED WITH A RECALL OF THE VEHICLES TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THEIR OPERATORS IN THE FUTURE.
CAR ENGINE CUTS OUT WHILE STATIONARY OR TRYING TO START MOVING. STEERING WHEEL AND SHIFTER LOCKS UP. THEN TYPICALLY RESTARTS RIGHT AWAY. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THENS COMES ON, BUT NOTHING SHOWS UP WHEN RUNNING DIAGNOSTICS. VERY SCARED THIS WILL HAPPEN TO ME WHILE GOING 70 ON A HIGHWAY. I COULD EASILY BE HIT. THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AMONG THIS TYPE OF CAR.
I HAVE HAD MY CAR STALL ON THE HIGHWAY AT A HIGH SPEED AND ALSO AT LOW SPEED AT LEAST 7 TIMES SINCE I HAVE OWNED IT. I HAVE CONTACTED A JEEP DEALER AND ALSO JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE. THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY/INTERSTATE. THIS HAS HAPPENED 5X NOW WITH NO WARNING. TODAY I WAS TRAVELING APPROX. 70 MPH - THE ENGINE TURNS OFF BY ITSELF. HAD TO WAIT 90 MINUTES FOR A TOW IN 94 DEGREE WEATHER.

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35-40 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED BOILING HOT WATER COMING FROM A CLOGGED AIR CONDITIONING DRAIN TUBE, WHICH OVERFLOWED BETWEEN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND THE FIREWALL. IN ADDITION, WATER DRIPPED DOWN ONTO THE LEG OF THE DRIVER AND CAUSED A BURN. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS NOT REQUIRED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE CLOGGED AIR CONDITIONING DRAIN TUBE CAUSED WATER TO IMMERSE TO THE DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S SIDE FLOORBOARD, WHICH CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION MODULE TO BECOME WATER LOGGED AND FAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,000.
FOR THE PAST 3 WEEKS THE VEHICLE WILL RANDOMLY NOT START. IT WILL EVENTUALLY START AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. IT ACTS LIKE ITS NOT GETTING FUEL ANT THE "ETC" WARNING LIGHT COMES ON. RECENTLY MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY AT 60 MPH AND THE CAR SUDDENLY STALLED IN THE MIDDLE LANE WITHOUT ANY WARNING LIGHTS. SHE WAS EVENTUALLY ABLE TO GET IT RESTARTED AND DRIVE HOME. I HAVE HAD IT AT THE MECHANIC SEVERAL TIMES AND CANNOT DUPLICATE THE STARTING ISSUE OR STALE ISSUE. REPLACED RELAYS AFTER READING THAT THERE ARE KNOWN ISSUES WITH RELAY BOX DUE TO CORROSION AND PLACEMENT OF RELAYS IN WHEEL WELL BUT THIS DIDN'T HELP. THE JEEP STALLED ON THE HIGHWAY TWO SEPARATE TIMES. WE WERE TRAVELING 65 MPH AND LOST ALL POWER FROM ENGINE. WE WERE FORTUNATELY ABLE TO PULL INTO BREAK DOWN LANE. JEEP WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP AFTER EACH EPISODE, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO LOCATE PROBLEM. VERY DANGEROUS. COMPLAINT FILED WITH JEEP. JEEP SITS IN DRIVEWAY, AFRAID TO USE IT..NOT GOOD!!!
WHILE TRAVELING ON A FREEWAY MY INSTRUMENT PANEL LIT UP AND MY CAR LOST ALL POWER. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER. WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY A FEW WEEKS AGO GOING ABOUT 65MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DIED IN TRAFFIC. ALL OF A SUDDEN I LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE AND THE VEHICLE WAS COASTING. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED FOR OUR DAUGHTER WHO TURNED (16) NOV 2014. MOST OF THE DRIVING TOOK PLACE ON LOCAL ROADS WITH SHORT-TERM HIGHWAY MILES..(10-15 MINS). THE FIRST INSTANCE OCCURRED ON JULY 4TH, DRIVING TO RELATIVES FOR A BBQ & FIREWORKS, OUR FAMILY TOOK (2) CARS, MY DAUGHTER HAD BEEN DRIVING ABOUT 40 MINS @ 75MPH, WHEN THE CAR STARTED MAKING A WHINING NOISE AND THE TEMP LITE APPEARED ON HER DASHBOARD. SHE SAID THE CAR WAS BOGGING DOWN SO SHE PULLED OVER AND CALLED US. SHE WAITED 10 MINS THEN CONTINUED THE ADDITIONAL 15MIN DRIVE WITHOUT ISSUE. WE TOOK THE CAR INTO OUR AUTO REPAIR SHOP, WHERE THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL BEARING WAS REPLACED, AS THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE ENGINE/POWERTRAIN, FLUIDS WERE FINE. TOTAL COST WITH LABOR AND MATERIALS $260.14. THE 2ND INSTANCE OCCURRED ON SEPT 18 (TODAY), DRIVING TO VISIT A FRIEND, MAINLY HIGHWAY...
ON THURSDAY AUG. 20, 2015 I STARTED THE JEEP TO HEAD OUT FOR ERRAND DUTIES WHEN IT WOULDN'T START. I TRIED A AGAIN ABOUT TEN MINUTES LATER AND IT STARTED. LATER THAT AFTERNOON I WAS DRIVING ON US1 IN LEVITTOWN, PA WHEN THE JEEP STOPPED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO PARTIALLY TURN MY CAR TOWARDS A DRIVE THAT LED TO A SHOPPING CENTER PARKING LOT WHEN NO LONGER IT COULD MOVE. THE BACK END OF THE JEEP WAS HINDERING TRAFFIC AND CARS WERE HONKING AWAY BUT I COULDN'T MOVE THE CAR ANY FURTHER. IT JUST STOPPED RIGHT THERE. FORTUNATELY, I FLAGGED DOWN A POLICE OFFICER FROM FALLS TOWNSHIP AND HE CAME RIGHT OVER TO HELP ME WHEN HE NOTICED MY PREDICAMENT. EITHER HE CALLED IN FOR HELP BECAUSE I DISCOVERED ANOTHER POLICE OFFICE DIRECTING TRAFFIC AWAY FROM THE JEEP. WE MANAGED SOMEHOW TO GET THE CAR...
JEEP PATRIOT 2011 IS STALLING RANDOMLY AT EVERY SPEED LEVEL. RESTARTING SOMETIMES IMMEDIATELY POSSIBLE SOMETIMES AFTER A 1 HOUR WAITING PERIOD .
WHILE DRIVING THROUGH TOWN (UNDER 40 MPH), LESS THAN HALF A MILE FROM DEPARTURE FROM MY HOUSE, THE ENGINE CUT OUT. LOST ENGINE POWER AND POWER STEERING. ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL LIGHT AND THE OIL TEMP LIGHT BOTH CAME ON. WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE CAR TO A SIDE STREET, TURNED THE CAR OFF FOR A MINUTE, AND THEN BACK ON. UPON TURNING ON WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME TO SWITCH VEHICLES. LESS THAN TWO MONTHS LATER THE SAME ISSUE OCCURRED. ENGINE POWER AND POWER STEERING WERE LOST.
I WAS ON A SHORT TRIP WHEN A CAR BEHIND ME FRANTICALLY WAVED ME TO STOP AND INFORMED ME THAT MY JEEP WAS ON FIRE. THE EXHAUST BURNT A WHOLE THROUGH THE REAR BUMPER AND MELTED THE BUMPER. I HAD NO INDICATION THAT THIS WAS HAPPENING. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 50MPH, MY CAR STALLED. I ROLLED TO THE SHOULDER WITH THE RESIDUAL MOMENTUM. AFTER WAITING 3-5 MINUTES THE CAR WAS ABLE TO TURN OVER. I DROVE THE CAR UNTIL I COULD GET A SERVICE APPOINTMENT AT MY LOCAL CHRYSLER JEEP DEALER; DURING THAT TIME THE CAR CONTINUED TO STALL RANDOMLY. TWO DAYS BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT, MY CAR STALLED TO THE POINT WHERE IT WOULD NOT TURN OVER. I FIRST TOWED THE CAR HOME, THE FOLLOWING MORNING TOWED IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP HAD MY CAR FOR 4 DAYS AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM OR DETECT THE ORIGIN OF THE MALFUNCTION. SINCE HAVING THE CAR IN MY POSSESSION , I HAVE HAD THE CAR STALL EACH DAY IN USE. THIS CAR HAS PROVEN TO UNPREDICTABLE BUT MOST OF ALL UNSAFE. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 JEEP PATRIOT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DUPLICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
WHILE GOING ABOUT 75 MPH, COMING BACK FROM CALIFORNIA, THE ENGINE SEEMED TO START MAKING A DIFFERENT WHINING TYPE SOUND AND THEN THE LIGHT TELLING ME THE TRANSMISSION WAS OVERHEATING CAME ON. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND LET IT SIT FOR 10 MINUTES WHILE IDLING , WHICH THE OWNER MANUAL SUGGESTED,. THE LIGHT THEN WENT OFF AND WE PROCEEDED HOME WITH NO FURTHER INCIDENT. IT WAS REALLY STRANGE THOUGH WHEN YOU ARE IN A LARGE GROUP OF VEHICLE'S AND YOU SUDDENLY LOSE ALL ABILITY TO ACCELERATE; DEFINITELY A POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE OUT ON THE ROAD.. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 JEEP PATRIOT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE AND ABS INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. I PURCHASED MY 2011 JEEP PATRIOT FROM KRAFT NISSAN NOVEMBER 16, 2013. WHEN I INITIALLY PURCHASED IT THEY PRINTED OUT THE VEHICLE HISTORY REPORT SHOWING THAT THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN ACCIDENTS AND THAT THERE WAS ONLY ONE PREVIOUS OWNER. WELL, JULY 15, 2014, AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE TRANSMISSION OVERHEATING LIGHT LIT UP SO I DROVE TO THE NEAREST GAS STATION AND IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED THE JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE AND THE OPERATOR INSTRUCTED ME TO LET THE CAR COOL OFF BEFORE STARTING IT BACK UP TO CONTINUE WITH MY JOURNEY. AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR AND A HALF, I BEGAN TO DRIVE AGAIN AND I IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED KRAFT NISSAN TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO GET MY VEHICLE INSPECTED. MY APPOINTMENT WAS FOR JULY 17, 2014, AND I LEFT MY CAR THERE...
