The contact owns a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while the vehicle gear shifter was in park, the vehicle would move forward even when the emergency brake was engaged. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for the recall repair for the emergency brake, however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic and was repaired but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 180,000. VIN was unavailable.
COMPONENT (DIODE) ON 60 PIN PCM HAS A SHORT CAUSING INJECTOR NUMBER 6 TO STICK WIDE OPEN. RESULT IS A CYLINDER COMPRESSING FUEL WHICH CAN LEAD TO EXPLOSION, ALSO RAW FUEL ESCAPING OUT OF THE TAIL PIPE AND LARGE AMOUNTS OF SMOKE. GASOLINE PULLS THE OIL OFF OF CYLINDER WALL CAUSING EXCESSIVE FRICTION AND ENGINE DAMAGE ALONG WITH CATALYTIC CONVERTER DAMAGE. IF REAR ENDED WHEN INJECTOR IS STICKING OPEN COULD CAUSE EXPLOSION OR FIRE! I HAVE CONFIRMED THIS ON 3 OTHER 93-95 GRAND CHEROKEE OBD I MODELS AS WELL. WHILE HAULING DIRT IN THE TRAILER AND DRIVING 45 MPH, THE PASSENGER SIDE TRAILER TIRE HAD A BLOWOUT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRE WAS REPLACED WITH A SPARE TIRE; HOWEVER, APPROXIMATELY AN HOUR LATER, THE DRIVER SIDE TRAILER TIRE BLEW OUT. THE DRIVER SIDE TIRE WAS ALSO REPLACED WITH A SPARE TIRE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V638000 (TIRES), BUT WAS INFORMED BY THE LOCAL HARBOR FREIGHT STORE THAT THE TIRES WERE NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND CONFIRMED THAT THE TIRES WERE NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, AND ONLY OFFERED THE CONTACT A $30.00 GIFT CERTIFICATE.
