THE TIPM HAS A KNOWN DEFECT. IT HAS CAUSE THE LEFT HEADLIGHT, TAILLIGHT, AND BLINKER TO MALFUNCTION AS WELL AS STALL WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGH SPEEDS. I WAS TOLD BY THE JEEP DEALERSHIP THAT I WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THIS AT MY OWN COST EVEN THOUGH IT IS A HIGHLY KNOWN ISSUE WITH THEIR VEHICLES MANY OF WHICH HAVE ALREADY BEEN RECALLED.

WITHOUT WARNING, MY 2007 JEEP COMPASS COMPLETELY DIED AND WOULD NOT START. I HAD IT TOWED TO A MECHANIC WHO INITIALLY THOUGHT IT WAS THE COMPUTER. AFTER FURTHER TESTING, HOWEVER, THEY DETERMINED THAT THE TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE (TPIM) WAS DEFECTIVE AND HAD ALSO FRIED OUT THE COMPUTER, REQUIRING THAT BOTH PARTS BE REPLACED FOR A TOTAL OF NEARLY $2,000. GIVEN THAT THIS IS A DEFECT THAT MANY JEEP USERS ARE EXPERIENCING, THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER AND I'VE BEEN WITHOUT A VEHICLE FOR MY 3 YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER FOR NEARLY 2 WEEKS. THE JEEP COULD HAVE STALLED OUT WHILE DRIVING OR COULD HAVE LEFT US STRANDED. CHRYSLER NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THEIR FAULTY TPIM'S AND REPLACE ALL THE DAMAGE THAT THEY CAUSE! *TR

WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 35MPH MY CAR BUCK AND ALMOST STALLED OUT. IT SEEMED LIKE IT LOST A LITTLE POWER AFTER THAT. WHEN I REACHED A STOP SIGN APPROXIMATELY 1/2 MILE DOWN THE ROAD AND ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE, I HAD NO POWER AND COULD NOT BREAK 10MPH. MY ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL INDICATOR LIGHT IS NOW FLASHING AND THE ESP/TCS LIGHT IS ON STEADY. THE ONLY ERROR CODE I AM GETTING IS FOR THE #1 O2 SEOR BECAUSE I DAMAGED IT TAKING IT OUT TO ELIMINATE A CLOGGED CADTILAC CONVERTER. AT TIMES IT TAKES 3 SECONDS FOR MY CAR TO EVEN ATTEMPT TO START (MEANING NOTHING IS HAPPENING). IT HAS A ROUGHER IDLE THEN IT USED TO HAVE. *TR

AS I WAS ACCELERATING (AFTER STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN), THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF AND STEERING BECAME VERY DIFFICULT. I ATTEMPTED TO TRY TO RESTART AND THAT'S WHEN A LIGHTNING BOLT ICON WAS DISPLAYED. I LOOKED IN THE MANUAL AND FOUND OUT THAT THE LIGHTNING BOLT ICON MEANS THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL SYSTEM. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES, I TRIED TO START THE CAR. THE CAR STARTED, HOWEVER I DECIDED TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALER DUE TO GRAVE CONCERN ABOUT THE ISSUE RECURRING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY. ABOUT 3 MONTHS PRIOR TO THE ABOVE INCIDENT, I WAS DRIVING UP A HILL AND STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN. WHEN I BEGAN TO ACCELERATE, THE CAR FELT AS THOUGH IT WAS NOT MOVING. I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL DOWN TO THE FLOOR IN AN ATTEMPT TO DRIVE THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. THE RPM GAUGE...

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMPASS 4X4. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE CONTACT SMELLED PLASTIC BURNING AND THEN SMOKE APPEARED FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. BEFORE SHE COULD STOP THE VEHICLE, IT CAUGHT FIRE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE BEFORE IT WAS DESTROYED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS BELIEVED TO BE ELECTRICAL. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 28,000.
