2008 Jeep Commander, 4.7L, QDII system. Vehicle experiences a sudden an unexpected loss of power and braking action while driving at speed. After loss of power, ABS, Stability Control, Brake, Check engine light, dash board warning lights illuminate and flash. Park assist and service 4wd error messages flash intermittently. Vehicle begins to buck and surge, accelerator becomes unresponsive. Has occurred at highway speed of 70mph, 50mph, 35mph. Loss of control of vehicle is sudden an unexpected with no advance warning. Vehicle has been to my local jeep dealer 4 times for repair (in under 1000 miles) multiple components replaced with no correction to issue.

Additionally, on some occasions while driving approximately 65 MPH, there was an abnormal sound coming from underneath the driver's seat, causing the seat to vibrate. The contact stated that she also observed oil under the oil filter when she inspected the vehicle. The vehicle was restarted but the warning lights remained illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 160,948.

The Vehicle will completely shut down (stall) randomly while driving in motion. This happens randomly but consistently. This has happened while driving on highways in speeds of excess of 55mph and on other roads going as slow as 10mph or while in reverse. When this happens, the oil light and Check engine light come on and the vehicle locks up with no power steering. The vehicle will start back up again after a few seconds when you turning the key.

I HAVE LEARNED THAT JEEP CHRYSLER AND DODGE VEHICLES PRODUCED FROM 2005 TO 2012 ALL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM OF THE OIL PICKUP TUBE NOT WORKING PROPERLY OR GETS CLOGGED WITH SLIM SO THT NO ENGINE OIL REACHES THE PISTONS AND CYLINDER HEAD. WHILE DRIVING, MY ENGINE THREW A PISTON ROD TROUGH THE ENGINE BLOCK AND INTO THE OIL PAN. TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH ON I-85 WHEN THE JEEP COMMANDER MADE A CLUNK SOUND AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED. THERE WAS NO POWER AND IT WAS UNABLE TO START. THIS OCCURRED AROUND 10PM WHEN I WAS HEADING HOME AFTER WORK. IT WAS A SCARY EXPERIENCE SINCE IT WAS DARK. I WAS EXTREMELY THANKFUL FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT PRESENTING AND STAYED WITH ME UNTIL THE TOW TRUCK ARRIVED. I TOOK IT TO A FIRST MECHANIC WHO STATED THE ENGINE WAS TOTALED. I WENT FOR A SECOND OPINION TO ANOTHER MECHANIC SINCE THE CAR WAS MADE IN 2008 AND HAS ABOUT 112,000 MILES BUT WAS ALSO INFORMED THE ENGINE WAS TOTALED. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE ENGINE. I HAVE DRIVEN THE VEHICLE FOR YEARS WITHOUT MAJOR INCIDENT. HOWEVER HERE LATELY THE VEHICLE HAS STALLED AND THEN SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 45-55MPH. I HAVE HAD 2 TYPES OF RECALL WORK DONE. IN JAN 2015 OUR KEY FOB GOT STUCK IN THE IGNITION OF OUR 2008 JEEP COMMANDER. A DAY LATER,WE WERE ABLE TO FREE IT. ON 2/19/15 IT WOULD NOT START AND WE HAD TO HAVE IT JUMP STARTED TWICE. ONCE STARTED IT DROVE WITHOUT ISSUES FOR 3 DAYS. THEN ON 2/23/15, THE JEEP WOULD NOT START AND THE KEY FOB GOT STUCK IN THE IGNITION. THE JEEP COULD NOT MOVE AND COULD NOT BE TAKEN OUT OF PARK. THE ONLY THING THAT WORKED WERE THE LIGHTS. WE TRIED TO JUMP START THE VEHICLE AND TRIED EVERYTHING WE COULD THINK OF TO RELEASE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. THE FOB WOULD NOT RELEASE SO WE HAD TO HAVE THE JEEP TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WE PURCHASED IT. THE MECHANIC TESTED THE JEEP (BATTERY TESTED FINE). THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 27 NOV, AS WE WERE DRIVING DOWN A 2-LANE HIGHWAY. WE WERE TRAVELING APPROX. 60 MPH WHEN THE JEEP MADE A ?CLUNK?
