The Situation: My vehicle has an open safety recall, NHTSA #15V-574 (Honda Recall JU2). This recall specifically warns that a software error causes high stress on the CVT drive pulley shaft, which can result in the shaft breaking during operation. Because this recall was never performed on my vehicle, the drive pulley shaft has now failed exactly as described, rendering the transmission useless. Legal Basis for Total Replacement: 1. Consequential Damage: The software update (the original recall remedy) was designed to prevent physical breakage. Since that remedy was not provided, the physical hardware has now failed. A software update cannot fix a broken shaft; therefore, a total replacement of the transmission is the only viable remedy for this safety defect. 2. Federal Law: Under the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act, manufacturers must provide a remedy for safety defects free of charge. Because the unaddressed defect led to the...
The contact owns a 2014 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle stalled. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with transmission failure. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.
My car is BROKEN DOWN COMPLETELY. I take care of it extremely well! The transmission went. Out of no where. This needs to be apart of the recall for Transmission Software may Result in Pulley Damage. I’ve had to get the brakes and rotors completely replaced twice in a year and they need to be done AGAIN already. That’s not normal, for brakes to wear that fast. The electric seats do not work and there’s an issue electrically that the trunk keeps popping open I had to unplug it. The battery randomly kept draining over night for a period of a month, then started working regularly again. I want this car to be included in the recalls and I want assistance about my vehicle
The contact owns a 2014 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle made an abnormal clunking sound and lost motive power. The contact stated that the vehicle felt like the transmission was in neutral(N), and the front wheels were locked. The check engine warning light was illuminated, and the message "Check Transmission" was displayed. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. The vehicle was undrivable and was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the pulley shaft and the drive belt were damaged. The mechanic determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V574000 (Power Train). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 197,000.
In a Honda CVT when the filter becomes clogged, pressure will build and the fill cap will come off the transmission on its own to relieve the pressure. There is no warning indication system to tell you when it happens but it seems to be a persistent issue in their CVTs. after the cap blows off fluid will start leaking on the casing and dirt and other contaminates will make their way into the transmission. This poses a massive safety issue as it can cause the transmission to lock up. When going to use professional service websites such as pro-demand and all data Honda gives no information about this issue or even how to fix it.
See attached document for complaint.
The transmission does not shift good at city speeds. It is jerky/grabby and It is prematurely wearing fluid down (burnt with only 19k since last change) It is miserable to drive due to the constant grabbing and releasing when you coast then apply gas. I fear it will lock up or fail which could lead to an accident.
My 2014 Honda Civic LX was leaking fluid. Took it as soon as possible to a shop to get it inspected. On the drive there the car was revving but not accelerating, the shop told me transmission filler cap had popped off and was laying next to the hole and to take it to a transmission shop. Towed it to a transmission shop where they reproduced the accelerating issue and also found excessive metal in the transmission fluid to the point a magnet could stick on the aluminum transmission pan. They believe it was due to high pressure in the CVT that pushed the cap out and then caused the sensor to leak as well. They recommended to completely replace the whole transmission because of so much internal damage to the transmission and to not drive it. They said the rest of the car was in perfect condition, nothing wrong...
While driving down a busy freeway, the CVT transmission failed. I was able to coast a little ways, but was unable to find a safe place to clear the road and traffic. I immediately called 911 for state trooper assistance to keep me from being rear-ended. I had no warning or Caution light on the dash until after the transmission failed. After the failure, I got the check transmission advisory on the dashboard. The Honda dealership confirmed it was a transmission failure.
While driving the vehicle locked up and I was not able to accelerate, during mid rush traffic , had to pull over and vehicle was leaking trans fluid the area where is first locked up. Having towed to Hugh White Honda in Columbus Ohio Georgesville Road
The transmission of the car gave out within 95000 miles even after regular maintenance at authorized Honda dealerships. So, the car lasted only 10 years and less than 100K miles. The cost to replace the broken CVT transmission is more than the value of the car meaning you have to basically trash your car after 10 years.
The contact owns a 2014 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 15 MPH, the driver's side tire rolled over the curb and the vehicle began to vibrate and shake. The contact stopped the vehicle and confirmed that there was nothing underneath the vehicle; however, the vehicle failed to exceed 15 MPH. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and diagnosed with a transmission failure. The independent mechanic stated that while test-driving the vehicle, the vehicle stopped, and was towed back to the mechanic shop. The vehicle was then towed to the residence where another independent mechanic diagnosed the vehicle with the same failure. The contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V574000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure....
The transmission suddenly started slipping and wasnt pulling reliably while I was on the highway in the middle of St. Louis, MO with heavy, fast traffic. There were no warning lights or signs to alert me that something was wrong before this happened. I immediately pulled off the highway, but struggled to change lanes in heavy traffic with very little pull from the transmission. I was forced to cut in front of people that were moving faster than me in order to get out of the way. Once I got off the highway, I immediately stopped to check under the hood. The fill plug for the transmission was off, and was laying next to the fill hole. I had to have it towed, and the shop told me that the vent plug on top of the transmission was clogged. They believe that this is the cause for the excessive pressure...
My front driver side cv axel broke in half while driving, boot was not damaged.
The contact owns a 2014 Honda Civic. The contact stated that the gear shifter was significantly loosened while shifting gear. Additionally, the contact stated that the air bags warning light and the TPMS warning light were illuminated. An unknown dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 153,000.
The plug for the transmission fill continually pops off. This is apparently is a common problem with this model.
The transmission stopped working and the car stopped in the middle of the road. I see a recall on the Civic 2014 however, my vin # isn't part of those vehicles that were recalled.
Transmission died at 128k miles on the highway. Steering wheel locked up. Meticulously maintained car with no prior issues. The problem has no been reproduced by a dealer as the car is undriveable but has been confirmed by a mechanic shop. There were no warning messages or symptoms of the problem prior to the transmission dying and no warning messages even after the transmission died to indicate that it was the problem.
I was driving on the highway and all of a sudden all the warning lights came on on the dash and the car started decelerating when I went to press on the gas pedal the engine revved but the car would not pick up speed it was in limp mode. I took it to the dealership and they said it's the transmission that needs to be replaced. Apparently this is a common. problem and should be a recall.
The contact's daughter owns a 2014 Honda Civic. The contact stated while her daughter was driving 25 MPH, she heard an abnormally loud sound coming from underneath the vehicle, and the vehicle lost motive power. The contact's daughter was able to roll to the side of the road. The vehicle was then pushed to the driveway of the residence. The contact stated that she then noticed fluid, broken parts, and bolts on the ground, at the site of the failure. The contact stated that the vehicle was able to be restarted but failed to respond upon shifting into drive(D). The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V574000 (Power Train) because the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
Transmission problem. Car stopped in the middle of the highway. Lost acceleration. Doesn’t change gears.
The contact owns a 2015 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle failed to restart. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V574000 (Power Train). The vehicle was towed back to the residence but was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 134,000. The VIN was not available.
This vehicle's VSA modulator is faulty. Lots of people have issues with this system. HONDA instead of helping, they have monopoly on parts and no other mechanic will fix it because honda is not allowing them so they can charge 2000$ to fix faulty VSA modulator. It's absurd that consumers doesn't have choice to fix their car from a faulty part that can only be fixed at Honda dealership. Please investigate this, I think they're doing this intentionally because it's making them money and they have no one to compete. Other similar Hondas have same faulty vsa modulator as well. Thank you
While driving the vehicle began to suddenly and aggressively shake. Fortunately I was arriving home and I was able to park on my driveway. The following Monday I had a car repair technician connect a car chip reader to the vehicle to run for codes. A transmission code came up for the drive shaft pulley. We looked up recalls for this vin and found one open from 2015. I had my vehicle towed to Stockton Honda where it was purchased and they did the update per the recall. Unfortunately the part that “may break” did in fact break and Honda refuses to take responsibility and refuses to replace the broken piece
Without any warning, my CVT failed completely on the Honda Civic. The car locked up and would not move almost causing an accident. Before this happened I had alerted the dealer twice that the CVT pressure cap had popped off and there was fluid spilled all over the engine. They cleaned it up put the cap back on and said it shouldn’t be a problem. when my transmission failed completely, I saw that the cap had popped off once again, and there was fluid spilled out!
My 2014 Honda Civic currently has 130,000 miles and the transmission is broken. My mechanic said that this vehicle has a CVT transmission and that he has seen many cases of Honda Civics with low mileage with the same problem as mine. I have entered my VIN to search if my model and year were on the recall but it is not on this list. However, it seems like the transmission in my car was defective. I am the original owner and have serviced my car routinely over the past 8 years.
The contact owns a 2014 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle made abnormal sounds and lost motive power. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 62,000.
Transmission failed, almost complete loss of power to the drive wheels. Honda examined and said it needs a new transmission. They admitted it was not low on fluid. The vehicle only has 97k miles.
CVT FAILED ON HIGHWAY IN MIDDLE LANE. MILEAGE 130,000 TOWED TO DEALER. CVT FLUID MAINTENANCE HAD BEEN REGULARLY PERFORMED BY DEALER- HERB CHAMBERS OF SEEKONK MASSACHUSETTS. CAR -2014 HONDA CIVIC EX NOT INCLUDED IN ANY PREVIOUS CVT RECALL GROUP!
The fill cap for the transmission keeps coming out of my transmission on my 2014 honda civic LX ans there is transmission fluid everywhere.
The contact owns a 2014 Honda Civic. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V574000 (Power Train). The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and diagnosed with continuously variable transmission (CVT) pulley shaft failure. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and declined the transmission replacement. The manufacturer informed the contact that he needed to pay out of pocket for the repair. The failure mileage was approximately 117,000.
Transmission cap popped off and fluid leaked out causing transmission to fail. Appears this is a common issue.
I have over 150,000 miles on this vehicle. I've followed all recommended maintenance minders as they come up and today I found that the CVT transmission fill plug had popped off, was laying on the transmission with fluid everywhere. I do not know how long the fill cap has been dislodged, but the fill cap should not dislodge on it's own which can lead to early transmission failure.
The CVT failed at 130k miles. All necessary maintenance was followed and the part failed with no warning. This caused the vehicle to breakdown on the highway.
Transmission filler cap (wine cork style) popped off as in other complaints causing a loss of fluid and the transmission failing. Car seems to be stuck in 2nd or 3rd gear and is no longer drivable. This poor design that has been complained about is causing an unnecessary financial hardship replacing the transmissions.
Started my car in neutral with the parking brake engaged. The car took off by itself up a curb over a hill and struck another vehicle. I managed to get back in the vehicle and applied the brakes but the brakes did not respond. And my car was serviced at Freeway Honda in Santa Ana three days prior to the accident. I reported the problem with the brakes, they did a brake service, but they did not properly diagnose the issue and fix it. They told me they couldn’t find any problems and release the car back to me. Three days later it was in an accident and the brakes failed. Now freeway Honda has stated that they finally diagnosed the issue with the brakes, but they are refusing to fix it free of charge even though they have been deemed liable for the accident. My rear shocks were also...
Car without notice started going under 20 mph and then under 2mph. Towed to Proctor Honda in Tallahassee FL for diagnosis and they said the transmission is inoperable and the internal components failed which is the exact same problem that is stated in the other 2014 Honda Civic recalls. They claim this VIN is not one of the recalled VINS i believe it is.
While driving especially accelerating from a stop front end of car started vibrating and jerking.Qualified mechanic inspected the drive train and concluded there was a damage to the pulley shaft that could not have been due to wear and Tear. Mechanic said issue was identical to Honda recall ju2 15v574000. I was advised to take vehicle to Honda. On the way to Honda the transmission gave out in the middle of an intersection. Good samaritans helped push vehicle to near by parking lot. Vehicle was towed to Honda of Dartmouth, Ma
I was sold a lemon in July 2015 from Victory Honda San Bruno.my VIN comes up as a 2014 Civic LX instead of EX-L.I never noticed the model difference until I had to look up recalls etc 'cause my pulley shaft stopped@ 94kmiles whilr on the freeway.Honda in Oakland&San bruno wanted $8k to fix it,ran my credit 4x for financing justtosay, not approved&my tranny cancels a $9k buyback/trade in.Honda of Oakland allowed a rep. to switch my car info w/someone else's, my last name, mileage, model, etc &allowed someone to pickup my car from them &didn't notify me for 4days,they also wanted$600 for tests, service AorB,trany flush(i didn't authorize)&my car(no previous engine problems)still doesnt drive. It has only been serviced at those 2 honda locations.I was NEVER notified&have these issues..PULLEY SHAFT#JU2,TIRE BEAD #JD8,now the AIRBAG RECALLS.On Nhtsa.gov/recalls,theres hundreds of owners w/my VIN #s minus the last 5-8 #s w/the same problems esp...
The plug for the automatic transmission fluid pops off and allows for all contaminates and water to enter transmission unknowingly. This was noticed at 94k miles on ours and on forums is a highly reoccurring item that needs to be addressed by Honda before transmissions begin failing from a "popping" plug that falls out while driving unbeknownst to the driver.
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON THE FREEWAY AND WHEN I GOT OFF THE FREEWAY I STOPPED AT THE STOP LIGHT WHEN IT TURNED GREEN I STARTED TO PUSH THE GAS PEDAL AND THE CAR STARTED JERKING BACK AND FORTH LIKE IT WANTED TO STALL I PUSHED ON THE GAS A LITTLE MORE AND IT CONTINUED TO JERK AT EACH STOP LIGHT WHEN I ACCELERATED. NO WARNING LIGHT CAME ON NO CODES AND IT JUST HAPPENED SUDDENLY WITH OUT WARNING . I PARKED IT AND TOOK IT TO THE SHOP THE FOLLOWING MORNING
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ON THE CITY STREETS WHEN THE CVT TRANSMISSION STARTED TO MAKE THE CAR ACT ERRATIC STOP AND GO STOP AND GO. I HAD TO PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL SO THAT I COULD CONTROL IT AND MOVE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I WAS SO GLAD I WASN'T ON THE FREEWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I PURCHASE THE CAR USED IN APRIL OF 2015. I ALWAYS HAD THE CAR SERVICE AT THE DEALERSHIP WHEN SERVICE WAS DUE. AND TWO YEARS AGO I HAD TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION BECAUSE IT COMPLETELY SHUTDOWN AFTER GETTING OFF THE FREEWAY. AT THAT TIME THE CAR HAD WENT OVER 100K MILES SO I HAD TO PAY $2000 TO REPLACE IT. AND IT LOOKS LIKE I'M GOING TO BE PAYING $2000 AGAIN. I DIDN'T KNOW THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE CTV TRANSMISSION, UNTIL A FEW DAYS AGO WHEN I...
DRIVING ON 95 NORTH AROUND 4PM MONDAY 03/29/2021 WHEN TRANSMISSION FAILED. THERE WERE NO LOUD NOISES, NO SERVICE WARNINGS OR LIGHTS. CAR HAS ABOUT 75,000 MILES AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS LAST SERVICED IN 2018 AT 60,000 MILES. THE CAR HAS ROUTINE MAINTENANCE RECORDS. THE RECALL (NHTSA ID: 15V574000) WAS PERFORMED IN 2016 WHICH WAS A SOFTWARE UPDATE DUE TO A MECHANICAL TRANSMISSION PROBLEM.
TRANSMISSION FILL PLUG POPPED OUT OF ITS POSITION ON TOP OF THE TRANSMISSION FILL PORT. CAUSING LEAKING TRANS FLUID AND NOW TRANSMISSION FAILED.
TRANSMISSION FILL PLUG POPPING OUT OF ITS POSITION ON TOP OF THE TRANSMISSION FILL PORT. CAUSING LEAKING TRANS FLUID AND POSSIBLE TRANSMISSION FAILURE. DEALERSHIP HAS CHECKED THIS ISSUE 1 TIME AND STATES THE ISSUE HAS BEEN RESOLVED. LESS THAN 3 DAYS LATER THE SAME ISSUE OCCURRED.
ON JANUARY 17,2021, I WAS DRIVING ON A 2 LANE ROAD GOING APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH (THE SPEED LIMIT) AND ALL OF A SUDDEN ALL OF MY CARS WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE CAR STARTED DECELERATING. WHEN I PUSHED ON THE ACCELERATOR, THE CAR REVED BUT DIDN'T PICK UP SPEED. I PULLED OVER OFF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON. THE CAR WOULD START BUT NOTHING HAPPENS WHEN I PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP AN HOUR AWAY AND THEY SAID IT'S GOING TO BE $6000 TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. THEY SAID MY SPECIFIC CAR HAD NO RECALLS ON IT AND THAT SOMETIMES THINGS JUST BREAK. THE MECHANIC NOTED THAT MY CAR IS IN EXCELLENT SHAPE OTHERWISE.
WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN A BUSY INTERSTATE WITH NUMEROUS CARS AROUND ME, MY CAR GAVE A SMALL JERK. AFTER THIS, MY CAR MOTOR WAS STILL RUNNING, BUT HAD NO POWER. WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS, NO POWER BEHIND IT. I WAS COASTING AND SLOWING DOWN. AFTER ALMOST GETTING RUN OVER BY THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME, I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THERE ARE MULTIPLE SIMILAR COMPLAINTS WITH THE TRANSMISSION FOR THIS YEAR MODEL.
I BOUGHT THE CAR BRAND NEW IN EARLY 2015. NEVER HAD SO MUCH AS A SLIP IN THE TRANSMISSION. GOT A RECALL NOTICE IN 2015 ABOUT A SENSOR FOR MAKING THE "CHECK TIRE PRESSURE" LIGHT STAY ON WHEN STARTING THE CAR. HONDA TELLS ME THEY FIXED THIS IN DECEMBER 2015. ON AUGUST 27, 2020, WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD ON A VERY DANGEROUS HIGHWAY, THE TRANSMISSION JUST STOPPED. NO NOISE, NO POP, NO STUTTER. THE CAR STARTED DECELERATING AND EVERY ERROR MESSAGE KNOWN TO MAN CAME ON THE SCREEN. CHECK POWER STEERING, CHECK TMP SYSTEM, CHECK ENGINE, CHECK TRANSMISSION, ETC. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER, BARELY GETTING ACROSS THE LINE AND HAVING TO SIT AND PRAY FOR HALF AN HOUR THAT THE HUGE CARS BARRELING TOWARD ME WOULD NOT HIT ME. GOT IT TOWED TO KING HONDA. A TECHNICIAN CALLED FIVE DAYS LATER AND SAID THE TRANSMISSION IS SHOT....
STARTER CLUTCH SHUDDER/JUDDER STARTED BEFORE 41K MILES. THIS IS A LONG TERM (DECADES) KNOWN DESIGN ISSUE WITH HONDA CIVIC HYBRIDS. THIS CAN IMPAIR ABILITY OF VEHICLE TO START IN TRAFFIC FROM A FULL STOP AND/OR PREVENT VEHICLE FROM BEING ABLE TO TRAVEL UP HILLS. DEALER RECOMMENDS $380 'BURNISHING' PROCEDURE AS A 'FIRST STEP'. STARTER CLUTCH REPLACEMENT IS THE NEXT STEP (>= $2000). VEHICLE JUST LEFT WARRANTY IN DECEMBER 2019.
THE TRANSMISSIONS FILL CAP KEEP POPPING OFF AND CAUSING TRANSMISSION FLUID TO SPILL AS WELL AS EXPOSING THE INSIDE OF THE TRANSMISSION TO THE ELEMENTS, CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION TO JERK WHILE DRIVING.
